0:20:45 > 0:20:47and the same old patched-up gown.
0:20:47 > 0:20:53"I wish I wasn't the scruffiest giant in town," he said, sadly.
0:20:53 > 0:20:56But one day, George noticed a new shop.

0:21:24 > 0:21:26He was about to go home when he heard a sound.
0:21:26 > 0:21:31On the pavement stood a giraffe, who was sniffing sadly.
0:21:31 > 0:21:34"What's the matter?" asked George.
0:21:34 > 0:21:40"It's my neck," said the giraffe. "It's so very long, so very cold.
0:21:40 > 0:21:43"I wish I had a long, warm scarf."
0:21:43 > 0:21:50"Cheer up," said George. And he took off his stripy tie.
0:21:50 > 0:21:52"It didn't match my socks, anyway,"
0:21:52 > 0:21:57he said, as he wound it round and round the giraffe's neck.
0:21:57 > 0:22:02It made a wonderful scarf. "Thank you," said the giraffe.
0:22:02 > 0:22:05As George strode towards home, he sang to himself.
0:22:05 > 0:22:12# "My tie is a scarf for a cold giraffe, but look me up and down.
0:22:12 > 0:22:15# "I'm the smartest giant in town".
0:22:15 > 0:22:17George came to a river.
0:22:17 > 0:22:21On a boat, stood a goat, who was bleating loudly.
0:22:21 > 0:22:24"What's the matter?" asked George.
0:22:24 > 0:22:29"It's my sail," said the goat. "It blew away in the storm.
0:22:29 > 0:22:33"I wish I had a strong new sail for my boat."
0:22:33 > 0:22:39"Cheer up," said George. And he took off his new white shirt.
0:22:39 > 0:22:41"It kept coming untucked, anyway,"
0:22:41 > 0:22:45he said, as he tied it to the mast of the goat's boat.
0:22:45 > 0:22:48It made a magnificent sail!
0:22:48 > 0:22:51"Thank you," said the goat.
0:22:51 > 0:22:54George strode on, singing to himself,
0:22:54 > 0:22:57# "My tie is a scarf for a cold giraffe
0:22:57 > 0:22:59# "My shirt's on a boat as a sail for a goat
0:22:59 > 0:23:05# "But look me up and down, I'm the smartest giant in town."
0:23:05 > 0:23:07George came to a tiny, ruined house.
0:23:07 > 0:23:11Beside the house stood a white mouse, with lots of baby mice.
0:23:11 > 0:23:14They were all squeaking.
0:23:14 > 0:23:16"What's the matter?" asked George.
0:23:16 > 0:23:20"It's our house!" squeaked the mother mouse.
0:23:20 > 0:23:25"It burned down and now we have nowhere to live!"
0:23:25 > 0:23:28"I wish we had a nice new house."
0:23:28 > 0:23:33"Cheer up," said George, then he took off one of his shiny shoes.
0:23:33 > 0:23:37"It was giving me blisters, anyway," he said,
0:23:37 > 0:23:40as the mouse and her babies scrambled inside.
0:23:40 > 0:23:44The shoe made a perfect home for them.
0:23:44 > 0:23:47"Thank you!" "Thank you!" they squeaked.
0:23:47 > 0:23:51George had to hop along the road now, but he didn't mind.
0:23:51 > 0:23:54As he hopped, he sang to himself,
0:23:54 > 0:23:56# "My tie is a scarf for a cold giraffe
0:23:56 > 0:23:59# "My shirt's on a boat as a sail for a goat
0:23:59 > 0:24:02# "My shoe is a house for a little white mouse
0:24:02 > 0:24:06# "But look me up and down, I'm the smartest giant in town." #
0:24:06 > 0:24:08George came to a campsite.
0:24:08 > 0:24:12Beside a tent stood a fox, who was crying.
0:24:12 > 0:24:15"What's the matter?" asked George.
0:24:15 > 0:24:18"It's my sleeping bag," said the fox.
0:24:18 > 0:24:20"I dropped it in a puddle."
0:24:20 > 0:24:24"And I wish I had a warm, dry sleeping bag."
0:24:24 > 0:24:26"Cheer up," said George,
0:24:26 > 0:24:31and he took off one of his socks with diamonds up the side.
0:24:31 > 0:24:37"It was tickling my toes, anyway," he said, as the fox snuggled into it.
0:24:37 > 0:24:40It made a very fine sleeping bag.
0:24:40 > 0:24:42"Thank you," said the fox.
0:24:42 > 0:24:45George came to a big, squelchy bog.
0:24:45 > 0:24:49Beside the bog stood a dog, who was howling.
0:24:49 > 0:24:52"What's the matter?" asked George.
0:24:52 > 0:24:55"It's this bog!" said the dog.
0:24:55 > 0:24:59"I need to get across, but I keep getting stuck in the mud."
0:24:59 > 0:25:02"I wish there was a safe, dry path."
0:25:02 > 0:25:08"Cheer up," said George, and he took off his smart new belt.
0:25:08 > 0:25:11"It was squashing my tummy, anyway,"
0:25:11 > 0:25:14he said, as he laid it down over the bog.
0:25:14 > 0:25:16It made an excellent path.
0:25:16 > 0:25:18"Thank you!" said the dog.
0:25:18 > 0:25:22The wind started to blow, but George didn't mind.
0:25:22 > 0:25:25He hopped on, singing to himself,
0:25:25 > 0:25:27# "My tie is a scarf for a cold giraffe
0:25:27 > 0:25:29# "My shirt's on a boat as a sail for a goat
0:25:29 > 0:25:32# "My shoe is a house for a little white mouse
0:25:32 > 0:25:34# "One of my socks is a bed for a fox
0:25:34 > 0:25:37# "My belt helped a dog who was crossing a bog
0:25:37 > 0:25:38# "But... #
0:25:38 > 0:25:43"..my trousers are falling down! I'm the coldest giant in town."
0:25:43 > 0:25:48Suddenly, George felt sad and shivery, and not at all smart.
0:25:48 > 0:25:50He stood on one foot and thought.
0:25:50 > 0:25:55"I have to go back to the shop and buy some more clothes," he decided.
0:25:55 > 0:25:59He turned round and hopped all the way back to the shop.
0:25:59 > 0:26:02But when he got there, it was closed.
0:26:02 > 0:26:06"Oh, no!" cried George.
0:26:06 > 0:26:10He sank down onto the doorstep and a tear ran down his nose.
0:26:10 > 0:26:15He felt as sad as all the animals he had met on his way home.
0:26:15 > 0:26:17Then, out of the corner of his eye,
0:26:17 > 0:26:21he saw a bag with something familiar poking out of the top.
0:26:21 > 0:26:23George took a closer look.
0:26:23 > 0:26:30"My gown!" he yelled. "My dear old gown and sandals!"

0:26:49 > 0:26:52"Come on, George!" they said.
0:26:52 > 0:26:53"Open it!"
0:26:53 > 0:26:56George untied the ribbon.
0:26:56 > 0:27:00Inside, was a beautiful gold paper crown and a card.
0:27:02 > 0:27:05"Look inside the card, George," said the animals.
0:27:05 > 0:27:10George put the crown on his head and opened the card.
0:27:10 > 0:27:14"Your tie is a scarf for a cold giraffe,
0:27:14 > 0:27:17"your shirt's on a boat as a sail for a goat,
0:27:17 > 0:27:20"your shoe is a house for a little white mouse,
0:27:20 > 0:27:22"one of your socks is a bed for a fox,
0:27:22 > 0:27:26"your belt helped a dog who was crossing a bog,
0:27:26 > 0:27:30"so here is a very fine crown, to go with the sandals and gown
0:27:30 > 0:27:35of the kindest giant in town."
0:27:35 > 0:27:39That story was called The Smartest Giant in Town.
0:27:39 > 0:27:43Wasn't George a very generous and kind giant?
0:27:43 > 0:27:48Can you think of anybody you can help tomorrow, just like George?
0:27:48 > 0:27:50Well, while you're thinking,
0:27:50 > 0:27:52it's time to close your eyes and go to bed.
