0:22:50 > 0:22:57.
0:23:08 > 0:23:10Hello, there. I'm Dan.
0:23:10 > 0:23:14I'm trying to learn some new tricks on my yo-yo,
0:23:14 > 0:23:17but as you can see it's proving harder than I thought.
0:23:17 > 0:23:20If I keep going, and practise really hard,
0:23:20 > 0:23:22I might be able to do some fancy moves.
0:23:22 > 0:23:24It could take me a while, though.
0:23:24 > 0:23:28Tonight's bedtime story is about a dragon who also tries really hard.
0:23:28 > 0:23:30It's called Zog. There it is.
0:23:30 > 0:23:35It's by Julia Donaldson, and illustrations are by Axel Scheffler.
0:23:35 > 0:23:39Madam dragon ran a school, many moons ago.
0:23:39 > 0:23:43She taught young dragons all the things that dragons need to know.
0:23:43 > 0:23:48Zog, the biggest dragon, was the keenest one by far.
0:23:48 > 0:23:52He tried his hardest every day to win a golden star.
0:23:52 > 0:23:57All the dragons in year one were learning how to fly.
0:23:57 > 0:24:01"High!" said Madame Dragon, "Way up in the sky!
0:24:01 > 0:24:04"Now you've been shown, you can practise on your own.
0:24:04 > 0:24:07"You'll all be expert flyers by the time you're fully grown."
0:24:07 > 0:24:11Zog went off to practise, flying fast and free.
0:24:11 > 0:24:16He soared and swooped and looped the loop, and crashed into a tree.
0:24:16 > 0:24:21Just then a little girl came by. "Oh, please don't cry!" she said.
0:24:21 > 0:24:25"Perhaps you'd like a nice sticky plaster for your head."
0:24:25 > 0:24:29"What a good idea!" said Zog, then up and off he flew.
0:24:29 > 0:24:34His plaster gleaming pinkly as he zig-zagged through the blue.
0:24:34 > 0:24:37A year went by, and in year two the dragons learned to roar.
0:24:37 > 0:24:41"More!" said Madame Dragon, "Louder, I implore!
0:24:41 > 0:24:44"Now that you've been shown, you can practise on your own,
0:24:44 > 0:24:49"and you'll all be champion roarers by the time you're fully grown."
0:24:49 > 0:24:53Zog went off to practise, he roared with fearsome force.
0:24:53 > 0:24:57He kept it up for hours on end, but then his throat grew hoarse.
0:24:57 > 0:25:01Just then the girl came by again, she said, "What rotten luck!
0:25:01 > 0:25:05"Perhaps you'd like a nice, soothing peppermint to suck?"
0:25:05 > 0:25:09"What a good idea!" said Zog, then up and off he flew.
0:25:09 > 0:25:14And breathing fumes of peppermint, he zig-zagged through the blue.
0:25:14 > 0:25:18A year went by, and in year three the dragons learned to blow.
0:25:18 > 0:25:22"No!" said Madame Dragon, "Breathe out fire, not snow!
0:25:22 > 0:25:25"Now that you've been shown, you can practise on your own.
0:25:25 > 0:25:27"And you'll all be breathing bonfires
0:25:27 > 0:25:30"by the time you're fully grown."
0:25:30 > 0:25:31Zog went off to practise.
0:25:31 > 0:25:35He blew with all his might, he twirled around in triumph,
0:25:35 > 0:25:37and his wingtip caught alight.
0:25:37 > 0:25:42Just then, the girl came by again. She said, "You poor old thing!
0:25:42 > 0:25:45"Perhaps you'd like a nice stretchy bandage for your wing?"
0:25:45 > 0:25:49"What a good idea!" said Zog, then up and off he flew,
0:25:49 > 0:25:54his bandage flapping wildly as he zig-zagged through the blue.
0:25:54 > 0:25:57The year four dragons were learning - can you guess?
0:25:57 > 0:26:00"Yes!" said Madame Dragon, "How to capture a princess.
0:26:00 > 0:26:04"Now you've been shown, you can practise on your own.
0:26:04 > 0:26:08"You'll need to catch a hundred by the time you're fully grown."
0:26:08 > 0:26:11Zog went off to practise, he tried and tried and tried,
0:26:11 > 0:26:13but he simply couldn't manage.
0:26:13 > 0:26:15"I'm no good at this!" he cried.
0:26:15 > 0:26:18"I'll never win a golden star." Just then, he saw the girl.
0:26:18 > 0:26:23"Perhaps," she said, "you'd like to capture me. I'm Princess Pearl."
0:26:23 > 0:26:27"What a good idea!" said Zog, then up and off he flew,
0:26:27 > 0:26:32the princess gripping tightly as they zig-zagged through the blue.
0:26:32 > 0:26:35"Ah!" said Madame Dragon. "Our first princess so far.
0:26:35 > 0:26:40"Congratulations, Zog, my dear. You've won a golden star."
0:26:40 > 0:26:44Zog was proud and happy, and Pearl felt good, as well.
0:26:44 > 0:26:48She took the dragons' temperatures, and nursed them when they fell.
0:26:48 > 0:26:53A year went by, and in year five, the dragons learned to fight.
0:26:53 > 0:26:57"Right!" said Madame Dragon, "Here comes a real, live knight!"
0:26:57 > 0:27:02Up spoke the knight. "My name," he said, "is Gadabout The Great.
0:27:02 > 0:27:06"I've come to rescue Princess Pearl. I hope I'm not too late."
0:27:06 > 0:27:08Zog breathed fire and beat his wings.
0:27:08 > 0:27:11"You can't, she's mine!" he roared.
0:27:11 > 0:27:15"Oh, no she's not!" yelled Gadabout, and waved his trusty sword.
0:27:15 > 0:27:20The other dragons gathered round, and watched them, all agog.
0:27:20 > 0:27:24Who was going to win the fight? Sir Gadabout or Zog?
0:27:24 > 0:27:29Then Princess Pearl stepped forward, crying, "Stop, you silly chumps!
0:27:29 > 0:27:34"The world's already far too full of cuts and burns and bumps.
0:27:34 > 0:27:38"Don't rescue me, I won't go back to being a princess.
0:27:38 > 0:27:41"And prancing round the palace in a silly, frilly dress.
0:27:41 > 0:27:44"I want to be a doctor, and travel here and there,
0:27:44 > 0:27:48"listening to people's chests, and giving them my care."
0:27:48 > 0:27:52"Me too!" Exclaimed the knight, and he took his helmet off his head.
0:27:52 > 0:27:55"I'd rather wear a nice, twisty stethoscope," he said.
0:27:55 > 0:27:57"Perhaps, Princess, you'll train me up?"
0:27:57 > 0:28:01And Pearl replied, "Of course, but I don't see how the two of us
0:28:01 > 0:28:04"could fit upon your horse."
0:28:04 > 0:28:08Then Zog said, "Flying doctors! I'd love to join the crew!
0:28:08 > 0:28:11"If you'll let me be your ambulance, then I can carry you."
0:28:11 > 0:28:15"Bravo!" Said Madame Dragon. "An excellent career!"
0:28:15 > 0:28:19And all the year five dragons gave a loud, resounding cheer.
0:28:19 > 0:28:23Then Madame Dragon told the horse, "I really hope you'll stay.
0:28:23 > 0:28:27"I'll let you be my pupils' pet, and feed you lots of hay."
0:28:27 > 0:28:32"What a good idea!" said Zog, then up and off he flew,
0:28:32 > 0:28:35the flying doctors waving as they zig-zagged through the blue.
0:28:37 > 0:28:41That story was called Zog, and Zog was very determined, wasn't he?
0:28:41 > 0:28:43He kept practising hard,
0:28:43 > 0:28:46and in the end, his teacher was very pleased with him.
0:28:46 > 0:28:49I'm going to keep practising my yo-yo skills.
0:28:49 > 0:28:52But for you, it's probably time you had a sleep,
0:28:52 > 0:28:55and a dream about what you'll practise tomorrow.
0:28:55 > 0:28:56See you next time.
