0:07:06 > 0:07:09Hello. My name's Katy. I love footie. Do you?

0:07:09 > 0:07:13I know someone else who loves football. Wilbie.

0:07:13 > 0:07:18Let me tell you what happened when Wilbie tried to join a local team.

0:07:18 > 0:07:23The story is by Sally Chambers and is called Wilbie Footie Mad.

0:07:23 > 0:07:27Wilbie was a duck with a passion. A passion for football.

0:07:27 > 0:07:30When he was small, his dad watched football,

0:07:30 > 0:07:32so he watched it too.

0:07:32 > 0:07:35Now Wilbie was bigger, he was football mad.

0:07:35 > 0:07:39He collected as much as he could about football,

0:07:39 > 0:07:41read as much as he could,

0:07:41 > 0:07:43watched as much as he could

0:07:43 > 0:07:47and listened to as many stories as he could.

0:07:47 > 0:07:51And sometimes, if he was really lucky,

0:07:51 > 0:07:56his dad would take him to watch his favourite team.

0:07:56 > 0:07:59Wilbie watched and collected and read

0:07:59 > 0:08:02and listened to so much about football,

0:08:02 > 0:08:07he felt sure he must be brilliant at playing football.

0:08:07 > 0:08:11He decided to show everyone how good he was by trying out for the team.

0:08:11 > 0:08:13He waited with excitement

0:08:13 > 0:08:16until it was his turn to show off his skills.

0:08:16 > 0:08:19He hardly managed to dribble the ball.

0:08:19 > 0:08:22He missed it when he was supposed to be heading it.

0:08:22 > 0:08:27He tried to keep it in the air, but it kept hitting him on the head.

0:08:27 > 0:08:31When his turn was over, he knew he was terrible at football

0:08:31 > 0:08:34and wasn't going to make the team.

0:08:34 > 0:08:37But the coach could see how keen Wilbie was.

0:08:37 > 0:08:42"We need someone to do important jobs like carrying balls

0:08:42 > 0:08:47"and fetching oranges," he said, as Wilbie was about to leave.

0:08:47 > 0:08:50"Perhaps you'd like to help us out."

0:08:50 > 0:08:52"Ah!" Wilbie nodded.

0:08:52 > 0:08:54But he felt sad on the way home.

0:08:54 > 0:08:56"Never mind," said his dad.

0:08:56 > 0:09:01"You don't have to be the best. It's enjoying yourself that counts.

0:09:01 > 0:09:04"If we practise, you'll get better."

0:09:04 > 0:09:06So they practised together.

0:09:06 > 0:09:09They dribbled, jogged, headed, hugged,

0:09:09 > 0:09:13scored goals, saved goals and laughed a lot of the time.

0:09:13 > 0:09:16Wilbie loved being with his dad.

0:09:16 > 0:09:19Every Saturday, Wilbie helped the team.

0:09:19 > 0:09:24He carried and collected balls and rushed about with water.

0:09:24 > 0:09:26He brought the oranges out

0:09:26 > 0:09:30and cheered as loudly as he could for the team. "Come on!"

0:09:31 > 0:09:35Then one Saturday, something exciting happened.

0:09:35 > 0:09:39Wilbie was on the bench when the coach came to talk to him.

0:09:39 > 0:09:43"The players decided you've been so helpful,

0:09:43 > 0:09:46"they'd like you to play," he said.

0:09:46 > 0:09:50Wilbie was a bit nervous at first, but soon he was having fun.

0:09:50 > 0:09:53The practice had helped. He was playing well.

0:09:53 > 0:09:58And then suddenly, while he was dribbling the ball, he saw a chance.

0:09:58 > 0:10:01He passed it to the striker. "Goal!"

0:10:03 > 0:10:06The final whistle blew.

0:10:06 > 0:10:08Wilbie's team had won!

0:10:08 > 0:10:10Everyone was cheering.

0:10:10 > 0:10:12"Good passing," said the coach.

0:10:12 > 0:10:17"Perhaps in the future, we WILL have a place for you in the team."

0:10:17 > 0:10:19Wilbie's dad felt very proud.

0:10:19 > 0:10:22On the way home, Wilbie said to his dad,

0:10:22 > 0:10:26"Today was great, but I don't mind if I'm not in the team.

0:10:26 > 0:10:30"There is something I like better." "What's that?" asked his dad.

0:10:30 > 0:10:33"Practising with you."

0:10:35 > 0:10:38That story was called Wilbie Footie Mad.

0:10:38 > 0:10:41Maybe you'll play some footie tomorrow.

0:10:41 > 0:10:46But it's late now and time for bed. Close your eyes, fall fast asleep

0:10:46 > 0:10:50and dream of scoring goals, like Wilbie. Night-night.
