0:00:17 > 0:00:21The cows and chickens can't believe it. Neither can I.
0:00:21 > 0:00:24In fact, why don't I tell you the story
0:00:24 > 0:00:26and you can decide for yourselves.
0:00:26 > 0:00:29The story is by Andy Cutbill and Russell Ayto,
0:00:29 > 0:00:32and is called The Cow That Laid An Egg.
0:00:32 > 0:00:35Marjorie the cow felt down in the dumps.
0:00:35 > 0:00:40"What's wrong, Marj?" clucked the chickens.
0:00:40 > 0:00:43"I don't feel special," said Marjorie.
0:00:43 > 0:00:47"I can't ride bicycles and do handstands, like the other cows.
0:00:47 > 0:00:50"I just feel so ordinary."
0:00:50 > 0:00:54That night, the chickens hatched a cunning plan.
0:00:54 > 0:00:58"Cluck, cluck, cluck", they whispered.
0:00:58 > 0:01:02In the morning, there was an almighty commotion in the barnyard.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34and the chickens were as pleased as punch too.
0:01:34 > 0:01:38But the other cows weren't so happy.
0:01:39 > 0:01:43Bicycle riding and handstands feel rather ordinary now.
0:01:43 > 0:01:46Something funny is going on.
0:01:46 > 0:01:51Cows don't lay eggs. Chickens lay eggs!
0:01:51 > 0:01:55"We don't think you laid that egg," a cow said to Marjorie.
0:01:55 > 0:01:58"We think the crafty chickens did it."
0:01:58 > 0:02:00Marjorie felt shocked.
0:02:01 > 0:02:04"Prove it!" said the chickens.
0:02:04 > 0:02:07So they all waited for the egg to hatch.
0:02:07 > 0:02:09Day after day they watched
0:02:09 > 0:02:14as Marjorie sat on the egg to keep it warm, but nothing happened.
0:02:14 > 0:02:18Until suddenly, one morning they heard a noise.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24"Oh, here it comes," shouted one of the cows.
0:02:24 > 0:02:28As Marjorie stood up, "tap, tap, tap".
0:02:28 > 0:02:36The egg cracked open and out hopped a small, brown feathery bundle.
0:02:36 > 0:02:41"Oh, there!" said one of the cows, nodding. "A chicken!"
0:02:42 > 0:02:46Suddenly, the tiny creature looked up at Marjorie.
0:02:46 > 0:02:49"Moo!" it said loudly.
0:02:49 > 0:02:52Marjorie smiled and held her baby tight.
0:02:52 > 0:02:55"A cow," she said,
0:02:55 > 0:02:59and she promptly named it Daisy.
