0:03:50 > 0:03:57.
0:04:06 > 0:04:09A fluffy friend.
0:04:11 > 0:04:13A feathery friend.
0:04:15 > 0:04:18A furry friend.
0:04:18 > 0:04:22Oh, hello! I'm Simon.
0:04:22 > 0:04:27If you could have any pet in the world, what would it be?
0:04:27 > 0:04:32I think I'd like a polar bear. Lots of warm cuddles.
0:04:32 > 0:04:36Although perhaps a little bit too big for indoors. Sorry!
0:04:37 > 0:04:40Well, in tonight's bedtime story,
0:04:40 > 0:04:43Harry is quite surprised by his new best friend.
0:04:43 > 0:04:48The story is by Tom McLaughlin and is called The Diabolical Mr Tiddles.
0:04:48 > 0:04:51For as long as he could remember,
0:04:51 > 0:04:56all Harry had wanted in the whole wide world was a cat.
0:04:56 > 0:04:59A furry, purry friend to care for and to play with.
0:04:59 > 0:05:04And you'll never guess what - this was Harry's lucky day.
0:05:04 > 0:05:09Today was Harry's birthday, and a cat is just what he got.
0:05:09 > 0:05:13"What a perfect puss cat!" said Harry excitedly.
0:05:13 > 0:05:16"I'll call him Mr Tiddles."
0:05:16 > 0:05:20Every day, Harry made sure that Mr Tiddles was as happy
0:05:20 > 0:05:22as a cat could possibly be.
0:05:22 > 0:05:26Every night, he tucked Mr Tiddles up on the comfiest armchair
0:05:26 > 0:05:31and stroked his tummy as he drifted into a dreamy sleep.
0:05:31 > 0:05:33Harry loved his new friend.
0:05:33 > 0:05:37Mr Tiddles loved Harry too and he wanted to show him
0:05:37 > 0:05:40how lucky he was to have such a kind friend.
0:05:40 > 0:05:44First, he brought Harry a fresh mouse.
0:05:44 > 0:05:47But Harry just went a funny colour.
0:05:47 > 0:05:52Then, he left Harry's favourite treat at the bottom of his bed.
0:05:52 > 0:05:58Triple chocolate cream and custard cake with extra banana jam. Mmm!
0:05:58 > 0:06:03"Delicious!" said Harry, as he licked a dollop of cream.
0:06:03 > 0:06:07But where did this come from? Mr Tiddles kept quiet.
0:06:07 > 0:06:10The next day, Harry found a pogo stick
0:06:10 > 0:06:14and a train, tooting its way around his bedroom.
0:06:14 > 0:06:19"What's going on? Where has all this come from?" he cried.
0:06:19 > 0:06:22Mr Tiddles just grinned.
0:06:22 > 0:06:26Day by day, things got even more puzzling.
0:06:26 > 0:06:30Before long, Harry's room was awash with rock-star guitars,
0:06:30 > 0:06:34peculiar paintings, fearsome dinosaurs, yummy jelly beans
0:06:34 > 0:06:37and whooshing jet packs.
0:06:37 > 0:06:39Then, one morning, Harry awoke
0:06:39 > 0:06:44to find a horse named Alan in his bedroom.
0:06:44 > 0:06:46It was the last straw.
0:06:46 > 0:06:50"What are you up to, Mr Tiddles, you rascally cat?" he cried.
0:06:50 > 0:06:52Mr Tiddles didn't make a sound.
0:06:52 > 0:06:55He just went a little red in the face.
0:06:55 > 0:06:59What mischief was Mr Tiddles getting up to while Harry was asleep?
0:06:59 > 0:07:02That evening, Harry followed Mr Tiddles
0:07:02 > 0:07:06as he vanished into the night, slinking along high wires,
0:07:06 > 0:07:09leaping across rooftops and jumping over rickety fences.
0:07:09 > 0:07:12It was a job for Harry to keep up
0:07:12 > 0:07:16until Mr Tiddles reached the home of the Queen!
0:07:16 > 0:07:19"Oh, my!" said Harry,
0:07:19 > 0:07:22as the rascally moggy squeezed through the railings
0:07:22 > 0:07:24and started to scale the wall.
0:07:24 > 0:07:29"Mr Tiddles is a cat burglar, how diabolical!"
0:07:29 > 0:07:34Taking a deep breath, Harry followed Mr Tiddles over the palace gates,
0:07:34 > 0:07:38up the palace wall and into the royal bedroom.
0:07:38 > 0:07:41"Stop!" shouted Harry,
0:07:41 > 0:07:44just as Mr Tiddles swiped the crown right off the Royal head.
0:07:44 > 0:07:49Mr Tiddles froze. The Queen woke up and Harry started to fall.
0:07:49 > 0:07:52"Help!" he screamed.
0:07:52 > 0:07:55Whoosh! Quick as a flash, Mr Tiddles dropped the Royal crown
0:07:55 > 0:07:57and dived across the room.
0:07:57 > 0:07:58"Aaargh!"
0:07:58 > 0:08:01With a swish and a swoop and some splendid acrobatics,
0:08:01 > 0:08:04Mr Tiddles grabbed Harry's shoelace
0:08:04 > 0:08:06and hauled him back through the window.
0:08:06 > 0:08:10"Phew! That was close," sighed Harry,
0:08:10 > 0:08:14as he and Mr Tiddles landed in a heap at the Queen's slippers.
0:08:14 > 0:08:17The Queen, however, was not amused.
0:08:17 > 0:08:19"Guards!" she called,
0:08:19 > 0:08:23"Arrest these two intruders for acts of cheekiness against the Crown."
0:08:23 > 0:08:27"No!" cried Harry. "Please, your Majesty, Mr Tiddles isn't a bad cat,
0:08:27 > 0:08:31"he's just been taking things because he cares for me so much."
0:08:31 > 0:08:36"You mean he's stolen other things too?" cried the Queen in dismay.
0:08:36 > 0:08:38She scratched her Royal head
0:08:38 > 0:08:42and a Royal thought popped into her Royal brain.
0:08:42 > 0:08:45"It's wrong to steal," she snorted.
0:08:45 > 0:08:48"But I think Mr Tiddles has learnt his lesson.
0:08:48 > 0:08:50"I can see that he isn't a bad cat.
0:08:50 > 0:08:54"If he promises to give everything back, we'll say no more about it."
0:08:54 > 0:08:56Mr Tiddles looked up at the Queen
0:08:56 > 0:09:01and gave the cutest, furry, purry pussycat smile he could muster.
0:09:02 > 0:09:04With no more time to lose,
0:09:04 > 0:09:08Mr Tiddles returned the grand piano to the conductor at the Opera House.
0:09:08 > 0:09:12The whooshing jet pack to the astronaut.
0:09:12 > 0:09:15And the noisy guitar to the rock-star man.
0:09:15 > 0:09:18And Alan to a very relieved cowboy.
0:09:18 > 0:09:21When they were finished,
0:09:21 > 0:09:25Harry gave Mr Tiddles his biggest, bestest squeezy hug.
0:09:25 > 0:09:29The two of them agreed then and there that having each other
0:09:29 > 0:09:33was the best present that anyone could wish for. The end.
0:09:33 > 0:09:36That story was called The Diabolical Mr Tiddles.
0:09:36 > 0:09:40I think Harry and Mr Tiddles will be the best of friends
0:09:40 > 0:09:42and have lots more squeezy hugs, don't you?
0:09:42 > 0:09:47Now, have you snuggled down and given your favourite toy a hug?
0:09:47 > 0:09:49Because it's time for you to go to bed.
0:09:49 > 0:09:53I'll see you soon for another bedtime story. Good night.
0:09:54 > 0:09:59There they are! I've been looking for these everywhere.
0:09:59 > 0:10:01I'm sure they weren't there before.
