0:21:06 > 0:21:09Hello, I'm Stephen.

0:21:09 > 0:21:13Tonight's bedtime story is about a hedgehog called Isaac, who's

0:21:13 > 0:21:15always on his own.

0:21:15 > 0:21:19Until something unexpected happens.

0:21:19 > 0:21:23The story is called The Very Helpful Hedgehog

0:21:23 > 0:21:25and is written by Rosie Wellesley.

0:21:25 > 0:21:29Isaac the hedgehog lived a quiet life under

0:21:29 > 0:21:33the tree by the paddock and never spoke to anyone.

0:21:33 > 0:21:36He never helped anyone and no-one ever helped him.

0:21:36 > 0:21:43He liked it that way. One afternoon, he was feeling sleepy.

0:21:43 > 0:21:49He had been for a walk on his own, caught a grub and eaten it.

0:21:49 > 0:21:50Alone.

0:21:50 > 0:21:54Isaac had just settled down for a nap in a pile of old leaves

0:21:54 > 0:21:56when...

0:21:56 > 0:22:02Thud! Something had landed on his back. And he couldn't get it off.

0:22:02 > 0:22:07He tried to see it and he tried again and he tried some more.

0:22:07 > 0:22:09Uh?

0:22:11 > 0:22:15He looked up. An apple!

0:22:15 > 0:22:19"It must be an apple", he thought.

0:22:19 > 0:22:24The apple was stuck. The apple was very stuck.

0:22:24 > 0:22:26The more Isaac tried to get it off,

0:22:26 > 0:22:32the more it stuck onto his back. Oh no, he thought.

0:22:32 > 0:22:35And he started to cry.

0:22:35 > 0:22:39"I have no-one to help me."

0:22:39 > 0:22:43He cried so hard he didn't hear the voice above him.

0:22:43 > 0:22:47"Mmm. An apple!

0:22:47 > 0:22:50"At last an apple has rolled onto my paddock."

0:22:50 > 0:22:58Crunch! "Who are you! Why are you under my apple?" asked the donkey.

0:22:58 > 0:23:04"I do so love apples. That was my first in a very long time."

0:23:04 > 0:23:06Isaac said nothing.

0:23:06 > 0:23:11"Do you like apples? You must, everyone must.

0:23:11 > 0:23:15"They're so sweet, so crunchy."

0:23:15 > 0:23:18Still Isaac said nothing.

0:23:18 > 0:23:21So the donkey kept talking.

0:23:21 > 0:23:27"Apples with custard, apple pie, toffee apples! Apple crumble.

0:23:27 > 0:23:32"Oh, joy, oh, joy! Gala apples,

0:23:32 > 0:23:38"Granny Smiths, Irish Peach, Honey Crisp, Golden Supreme,

0:23:38 > 0:23:42"Golden Delicious, Braeburn, Bismarck,

0:23:42 > 0:23:48"Jonalicious, Gilpin, Franklin, Cindy Red, Cox's Orange

0:23:48 > 0:23:53"and Cats Heads - such feasts, some apply treats,

0:23:53 > 0:23:57"so many different types to eat."

0:23:57 > 0:24:01Isaac still said nothing. Isaac didn't know what to say.

0:24:01 > 0:24:03He didn't have any friends.

0:24:03 > 0:24:08He had never helped anyone and until now, no-one had ever helped him.

0:24:08 > 0:24:10He liked being on his own.

0:24:10 > 0:24:15He turned round and walked back to his pile of leaves.

0:24:15 > 0:24:21He was just getting comfortable when...thud!

0:24:21 > 0:24:24Isaac looked at the apple.

0:24:24 > 0:24:26He thought about donkey.

0:24:26 > 0:24:30He thought about how the donkey couldn't reach the apples

0:24:30 > 0:24:35and then he thought...perhaps...

0:24:35 > 0:24:36Oohhh!

0:24:39 > 0:24:42Perhaps being alone isn't so great after all.

0:24:45 > 0:24:49And that story was called The Very Helpful Hedgehog.

0:24:49 > 0:24:53How lovely that donkey and Isaac became friends.

0:24:53 > 0:24:59Maybe tonight, you could dream about your friends or about being helpful?

0:24:59 > 0:25:00Just like Isaac.

0:25:00 > 0:25:05See you soon for another bedtime story.

0:25:05 > 0:25:06Good night.
