0:21:32 > 0:21:37On Sunnyside Farm, there is one chicken that all the other
0:21:37 > 0:21:40chickens are talking about, and her name is Little Pippa.
0:21:40 > 0:21:44It all started when Mr Benedict told his class,
0:21:44 > 0:21:48"As sure is eggs is eggs, chickens can't see in the dark."
0:21:48 > 0:21:50Little Pippa was very disappointed.
0:21:50 > 0:21:53She wanted to see in the dark more than anything
0:21:53 > 0:21:56and she knew someone who might be able to help.
0:21:56 > 0:21:59As soon as school was over, she went to Mr Owl's treehouse.
0:22:01 > 0:22:04"A chicken who wants to see in the dark?" said Mr Owl.
0:22:04 > 0:22:06"What a hoot!"
0:22:06 > 0:22:09And he laughed so much, he nearly fell off his chair!
0:22:09 > 0:22:13"Mr Owl wasn't very helpful at all," thought Little Pippa
0:22:13 > 0:22:16so she decided to go to Miss Featherbrain's library instead.
0:22:16 > 0:22:19Miss Featherbrain was puzzled when Pippa asked where
0:22:19 > 0:22:22she could find a book about seeing in the dark.
0:22:22 > 0:22:25"Chickens can't see in the dark," she said.
0:22:25 > 0:22:30"That's just an old hen's tale," so Pippa searched high and low
0:22:30 > 0:22:33until she found a book called Old Hens' Tales.
0:22:35 > 0:22:38And there it was - tale no. 264,
0:22:38 > 0:22:42Carrots Help You See In The Dark.
0:22:42 > 0:22:46"Carrots! I need carrots," Pippa squawked,
0:22:46 > 0:22:49and off she scrambled to the farm shop.
0:22:49 > 0:22:53"What will a little chicken like you do with all those carrots?"
0:22:53 > 0:22:55asked Granny Bumblefoot.
0:22:55 > 0:22:58"I'm going to see in the dark," said Little Pippa.
0:22:58 > 0:23:02"Oh, my feet and feathers!" laughed granny Bumblefoot.
0:23:02 > 0:23:05"Chickens seeing in the dark! Whatever next?"
0:23:05 > 0:23:07But Pippa was already on her way home.
0:23:07 > 0:23:11She wanted to know how many carrots would help her see in the dark.

0:23:16 > 0:23:17After carrot number four,
0:23:17 > 0:23:21Pippa decided the best thing to do would be to eat ALL the carrots,
0:23:21 > 0:23:24so she headed to Mother Hen's pantry
0:23:24 > 0:23:27to cook up the biggest carrot banquet ever.
0:23:27 > 0:23:30Little Pippa made carrot cookies,
0:23:30 > 0:23:31hot carrot chowder,
0:23:31 > 0:23:33crispy carrot crunchies,
0:23:33 > 0:23:35carrot curry, carrot croutons,
0:23:35 > 0:23:37carrot custard, carrot quiche,
0:23:37 > 0:23:39and chewy carrot caramels.
0:23:39 > 0:23:42The delicious smells of Little Pippa's banquet
0:23:42 > 0:23:44wafted over Sunnyside Farm and,
0:23:44 > 0:23:47before you could say cock-a-doodle-doo,
0:23:47 > 0:23:50all the chickens were outside Mother Hen's pantry.
0:23:50 > 0:23:54"I'm going to be the first chicken that can see in the dark,"
0:23:54 > 0:23:57said Pippa, as she got ready to spread out her carrot feast.
0:23:57 > 0:24:01The chickens looked at each other and laughed.
0:24:01 > 0:24:03Then they looked at the cookies,
0:24:03 > 0:24:05the quiches, custards, curries,
0:24:05 > 0:24:06cordials and cupcakes.
0:24:06 > 0:24:11It all looked very tasty. It looked impossible to resist.
0:24:11 > 0:24:15As the sky grew dark, the chickens gasped with delight.
0:24:15 > 0:24:19They could see things they'd never seen before -
0:24:19 > 0:24:23twinkly stars, shimmery shadows and a beautiful moon.
0:24:23 > 0:24:25"We were wrong and you were right,"
0:24:25 > 0:24:29they squawked, as they gathered around Pippa.
0:24:29 > 0:24:31Chickens CAN see in the dark.
0:24:31 > 0:24:33Mr Benedict gave Pippa a friendly pat
0:24:33 > 0:24:37and Miss Featherbrain gave her a peck on the cheek,
0:24:37 > 0:24:39which made Pippa blush.
0:24:39 > 0:24:42Or perhaps it was just all those carrots.
