0:00:24 > 0:00:26In tonight's bedtime story,
0:00:26 > 0:00:30Humber gets a very different kind of surprise.
0:00:30 > 0:00:33The story is by Emma Chichester Clark,
0:00:33 > 0:00:35and is called My Baby Sister.
0:00:38 > 0:00:40On Monday, Mum said,
0:00:40 > 0:00:42"I'll be back soon, Humber,
0:00:42 > 0:00:45"and I'll have a lovely surprise for you."
0:00:45 > 0:00:48That night, Granny read me a story,
0:00:48 > 0:00:50but she didn't do the voices right.
0:00:50 > 0:00:52I missed my mum.
0:00:52 > 0:00:55I had breakfast with Dad,
0:00:55 > 0:00:58but he didn't know how to cut my banana up properly.
0:00:58 > 0:01:01I missed my mum.
0:01:01 > 0:01:05Later, we went shopping, and Dad said,
0:01:05 > 0:01:08"No, Humber, no, no, no!,"
0:01:08 > 0:01:12every time I found something for us to buy.

0:01:15 > 0:01:19When we got home, Granny was wearing Mum's apron.
0:01:19 > 0:01:23She said, "Humber, I've made a lovely fish pie,
0:01:23 > 0:01:26"and I want to see a nice clean plate."
0:01:26 > 0:01:30Mum knows I don't like fish pie!
0:01:30 > 0:01:34Dad took me to the park to see the baby ducklings, and he said,
0:01:34 > 0:01:39"Aren't they lucky to have so many brothers and sisters?"
0:01:39 > 0:01:41I said, "I don't know!"
0:01:41 > 0:01:43I missed my mum.
0:01:43 > 0:01:45But I knew she'd be home soon,
0:01:45 > 0:01:48and she would have a surprise for me.
0:01:48 > 0:01:51And the next day she was back.
0:01:51 > 0:01:54I shouted, "Mum, Mum, Mum!"
0:01:54 > 0:01:56Granny said, "Ssshh!"
0:01:56 > 0:02:00Mum was holding a tiny baby.
0:02:00 > 0:02:03She was very tired so she had to stay in bed,
0:02:03 > 0:02:06and I could hug her all day.
0:02:06 > 0:02:09Then I remembered about the surprise.
0:02:09 > 0:02:13"Where's my surprise?" I asked her.
0:02:13 > 0:02:16She said, "This is your surprise, Hum.
0:02:16 > 0:02:19"Your little sister Plum!"
0:02:19 > 0:02:23And I said, "But she's not staying, is she?"
0:02:23 > 0:02:27Mum laughed and said I was a funny little thing.
0:02:27 > 0:02:32I wasn't allowed to stay all the time, because she had to sleep,
0:02:32 > 0:02:33but Plum was allowed to.
0:02:35 > 0:02:39Lots of people came to see Mum and Plum. They said,

0:02:53 > 0:02:58She always said, "Sorry, Hum, I can't right now."
0:02:58 > 0:03:01She only had time to do things with Plum,
0:03:01 > 0:03:06so I decided it was time to send Plum back to where she came from.
0:03:06 > 0:03:09Mum was asleep, but Plum was wide awake.
0:03:11 > 0:03:15I lifted her up. She was tiny,
0:03:15 > 0:03:18She was a tiny little thing.
0:03:18 > 0:03:21I put her in the box and she looked even smaller,
0:03:21 > 0:03:25and then I thought I might play with her before she went,
0:03:25 > 0:03:29so I got her out again, and put her on my knee, like Mum does,
0:03:29 > 0:03:32and I rubbed noses, like Mum does,
0:03:32 > 0:03:35and I rocked her like Mum does.
0:03:36 > 0:03:40And when I stopped, she looked like she was going to cry,
0:03:40 > 0:03:42so I picked her up, and said,
0:03:42 > 0:03:45"There, there!" like Mum does,
0:03:45 > 0:03:48and she smiled.
0:03:48 > 0:03:51"You are a funny little thing," I said.
0:03:51 > 0:03:55Then Mum said, "What do you think, Hum?
0:03:55 > 0:03:56"Shall we keep her?"
0:03:56 > 0:03:59And I said, "OK,
0:03:59 > 0:04:03"but I don't want you to play with her all the time."
0:04:03 > 0:04:06And Mum said it would be more fun for her
0:04:06 > 0:04:08if I would help her with Plum.
0:04:08 > 0:04:09And then she said,
0:04:09 > 0:04:12"I've missed you, Hum."
0:04:12 > 0:04:15And I said, "Even though you've got Plum?"
0:04:15 > 0:04:19And she said, "Plum is a baby.
0:04:19 > 0:04:22"I miss my big grown-up Hum."
0:04:22 > 0:04:27So after that, I helped Mum to have more fun, looking after Plum.
