0:13:03 > 0:13:05CBeebies Bedtime Story.

0:13:07 > 0:13:10Hello. I'm Stephen.

0:13:10 > 0:13:13Mm. That's a lovely cup of tea.

0:13:13 > 0:13:16A cup and saucer, a bit like these,

0:13:16 > 0:13:19come in very useful in tonight's bedtime story.

0:13:19 > 0:13:23It's called "Harry and the Jaggedy Daggers".

0:13:23 > 0:13:26It's by Jan Fearnley.

0:13:26 > 0:13:30Not very far away, there's a place where the winding river

0:13:30 > 0:13:32flows into the big wide sea.

0:13:32 > 0:13:36There are boats on the water, ships in the harbour

0:13:36 > 0:13:39and interesting animals all around.

0:13:39 > 0:13:40It's a busy place.

0:13:40 > 0:13:45A special place, and its name is Bottlenose Bay.

0:13:45 > 0:13:48Harry, the harbourmouse,

0:13:48 > 0:13:51lived in an old boathouse on the winding river.

0:13:51 > 0:13:53His whiskers were salty

0:13:53 > 0:13:56and his eyes were twinkly, like the sea.

0:13:56 > 0:14:01Every day, Harry transported cargo in his boat.

0:14:01 > 0:14:03He liked river life -

0:14:03 > 0:14:05people coming and going,

0:14:05 > 0:14:09big ships, ferries, sailing boats and tugboats.

0:14:09 > 0:14:12He loved the magical way the sea and the wind

0:14:12 > 0:14:15brought people and things from faraway places.

0:14:15 > 0:14:19But the wind and sea can make mischief too.

0:14:19 > 0:14:23One night, when Harry was asleep, something terrible happened.

0:14:23 > 0:14:26Zephyr, the wild wind,

0:14:26 > 0:14:30rose up and loosened the rope that fastened Harry's boat.

0:14:30 > 0:14:34The boat drifted away into the harbour out to the sea

0:14:34 > 0:14:35right onto...

0:14:35 > 0:14:39the Jaggedy Daggers.

0:14:40 > 0:14:44The Jaggedy Daggers were dangerous, mean, old rocks.

0:14:44 > 0:14:48They lay just below the surface of the sea, waiting.

0:14:48 > 0:14:52Many ships had been wrecked on their cruel spikes.

0:14:52 > 0:14:55Harry's boat was smashed to smithereens.

0:14:55 > 0:15:00Like ginormous dinosaur teeth, they crunched that poor boat up.

0:15:00 > 0:15:03In the morning, there was nothing left

0:15:03 > 0:15:06except for a few pieces of broken wood.

0:15:06 > 0:15:08Harry was heartbroken.

0:15:08 > 0:15:10But, as well as mischief,

0:15:10 > 0:15:15the wind and the sea can bring surprises and treasures too.

0:15:15 > 0:15:18One day, as he walked along the seashore,

0:15:18 > 0:15:22Harry found a strange thing washed up by the tide.

0:15:22 > 0:15:25It was an old, chipped china teacup

0:15:25 > 0:15:28with stars painted around the rim.

0:15:28 > 0:15:30Harry had an idea.

0:15:30 > 0:15:34"This will make a wonderful boat," he said.

0:15:34 > 0:15:37"What a silly thing", scoffed the river rats.

0:15:37 > 0:15:39Harry didn't care.

0:15:39 > 0:15:43And in no time at all, he was back working on the river

0:15:43 > 0:15:44in his new boat.

0:15:44 > 0:15:48He delivered a cargo of shells to Olivia the otter

0:15:48 > 0:15:50for her magic spells.

0:15:50 > 0:15:54"A teacup. How unusual!" she said.

0:15:54 > 0:15:58He ferried Mama Bun to visit the grandchildren.

0:15:58 > 0:16:00He took the pond children to school.

0:16:00 > 0:16:04They wriggled about so much, the cup nearly capsised!

0:16:04 > 0:16:08"It's too squishy," they said.

0:16:08 > 0:16:09It was true.

0:16:09 > 0:16:11The teacup boat was very small

0:16:11 > 0:16:15and Harry had to avoid the big ships.

0:16:15 > 0:16:17Phew!

0:16:17 > 0:16:21One night, another storm came.

0:16:21 > 0:16:24Huge waves crashed against the pier.

0:16:24 > 0:16:26The wind howled and whistled.

0:16:29 > 0:16:31And a huge gust of wind

0:16:31 > 0:16:35blew Samina Songbird's nest right out of the tree.

0:16:35 > 0:16:39Out fell the eggs onto the stormy water.

0:16:39 > 0:16:41"Help!" cheeped Samina. "My eggs!"

0:16:41 > 0:16:44The waves swept the eggs way out to sea.

0:16:44 > 0:16:46The current was so strong that it carried them

0:16:46 > 0:16:50straight towards the Jaggedy Daggers.

0:16:50 > 0:16:52"Help!"

0:16:52 > 0:16:56The river boats were too big to go near the Jaggedy Daggers.

0:16:56 > 0:16:59They would be smashed and bashed to pieces.

0:16:59 > 0:17:03Only Harry, in his tiny boat, could save the eggs now.

0:17:03 > 0:17:06Harry rowed as fast as he could.

0:17:06 > 0:17:08The sea was rough.

0:17:08 > 0:17:13Huge waves tossed him this way and that way.

0:17:13 > 0:17:17It was hard work, but Harry was determined.

0:17:17 > 0:17:19At last, he reached the eggs.

0:17:19 > 0:17:21Then, carefully,

0:17:21 > 0:17:25he used the spoon to scoop each one out of the water.

0:17:25 > 0:17:27His boat tipped and spun.

0:17:27 > 0:17:31Harry came dangerously close to the deadly Daggers

0:17:31 > 0:17:36but he kept going until every egg was saved.

0:17:36 > 0:17:41At the jetty, a fantastic flotilla of friends welcomed Harry home.

0:17:41 > 0:17:44"What a hero!" they cheered.

0:17:44 > 0:17:46"Hip-hip-hurrah for Harry!"

0:17:46 > 0:17:50Harry was presented with a special reward.

0:17:50 > 0:17:53A shiny, big, red tugboat.

0:17:53 > 0:17:57So, every day, Harry carried cargo and passengers

0:17:57 > 0:17:59all around the river.

0:17:59 > 0:18:02He liked his red tugboat very much.

0:18:02 > 0:18:06But on special days, like the day Samina's eggs hatched,

0:18:06 > 0:18:08Harry would leave his big boat at home

0:18:08 > 0:18:10and sail out in his little teacup

0:18:10 > 0:18:13because, even though it was small and chipped

0:18:13 > 0:18:16and he paddled it with a rusty old spoon,

0:18:16 > 0:18:22the little teacup boat was Harry's favourite boat of all.

0:18:22 > 0:18:27And that story was called "Harry and the Jaggedy Daggers".

0:18:27 > 0:18:30What an exciting adventure Harry went on!

0:18:30 > 0:18:34Thank goodness he found that little old china teacup.

0:18:34 > 0:18:38Maybe you can go on an adventure in your dreams tonight?

0:18:38 > 0:18:42It's time to snuggle up and close your eyes

0:18:42 > 0:18:47and I'll see you soon for another bedtime story.

0:18:47 > 0:18:48Goodnight.
