0:59:50 > 0:59:57.
1:00:06 > 1:00:11I'm sorry, but you're going to have to sit on the step for a while.
1:00:11 > 1:00:14Hi. I'm Matthew.
1:00:14 > 1:00:20Buttons has been silly and needs to spend some time on the naughty step.
1:00:20 > 1:00:24I caught him unravelling all this wool, which has made a mess.
1:00:26 > 1:00:31All right, Buttons. I'll keep you company while I tell everyone about
1:00:31 > 1:00:33Sam and his time on the naughty step.
1:00:35 > 1:00:40This story is by Mark Sperring and Tom McLaughlin,
1:00:40 > 1:00:43and it's called Father Christmas On The Naughty Step.
1:00:44 > 1:00:47Today was Christmas Eve,
1:00:47 > 1:00:51and Sam could have been doing any number of lovely things.
1:00:51 > 1:00:56He could have been making something yummy with his big sister, Nelly.
1:00:56 > 1:01:00Or helping Rover with a last minute letter to Santa.
1:01:00 > 1:01:04Or just daydreaming with Dad about all the wonderful Christmassy
1:01:04 > 1:01:06things to come.
1:01:08 > 1:01:12But Sam wasn't doing any of those lovely things.
1:01:12 > 1:01:18Sam was sitting by himself on the naughty step.
1:01:19 > 1:01:23Until the naughty step gave a familiar creak.
1:01:24 > 1:01:26And, shiver me timbers,
1:01:26 > 1:01:31down sat someone who'd sat there a zillion times before.
1:01:33 > 1:01:38"Have you been naughty again?" sighed Sam.
1:01:38 > 1:01:41Captain Buckleboots gave a woeful nod.
1:01:41 > 1:01:45"Oh, Sam," he said, "I told the most terrible lie."
1:01:46 > 1:01:50Then he held up a letter for Sam to see.
1:02:05 > 1:02:08"Oh, dear," said Sam.
1:02:08 > 1:02:12"I can't imagine anything naughtier."
1:02:12 > 1:02:16But just then, high above their heads,
1:02:16 > 1:02:19came the jingle-jangle of bells and a flurry of snow.
1:02:21 > 1:02:26And, shiver me tinsels, down sat Father Christmas!
1:02:28 > 1:02:31"Santa!" gasped Sam. "It's Christmas Eve!
1:02:31 > 1:02:36"Shouldn't you be getting ready to deliver lots of lovely presents?"
1:02:36 > 1:02:39Father Christmas gave a shameful sigh
1:02:39 > 1:02:41and shuffled nervously on the step.
1:02:43 > 1:02:50"Yes," he said, "But I've been bad when I should have been good."
1:02:50 > 1:02:55Then they saw it. Dear, oh, dear.
1:02:56 > 1:03:02Santa's name right at the top of the naughty list.
1:03:05 > 1:03:09"It all began this morning," explained Santa,
1:03:09 > 1:03:13"I took something that clearly did not belong to me.
1:03:14 > 1:03:17"And even though I knew I shouldn't,
1:03:17 > 1:03:21"well, I did.
1:03:21 > 1:03:26Stop! cried that elves as I hurtled out of the workshop. Stop!
1:03:26 > 1:03:29"neighed the reindeer as I sped downhill.
1:03:29 > 1:03:32"But blistering baubles, I couldn't stop!
1:03:32 > 1:03:34"Crash!
1:03:34 > 1:03:35"Bang! Wallop!
1:03:36 > 1:03:40"And suddenly, everything was everywhere.
1:03:42 > 1:03:45"To make matters worse, I started to laugh.
1:03:48 > 1:03:53"But ho-ho-hum, not everyone found it quite so funny.
1:03:55 > 1:04:00"Now," sighed Santa, "All I really want for Christmas
1:04:00 > 1:04:03"is to be forgiven, but I don't know how."
1:04:05 > 1:04:10For a moment, a sorrowful hush fell over the naughty step.
1:04:12 > 1:04:15Then Sam had a wonderful idea.
1:04:17 > 1:04:19"If you really want to be forgiven,"
1:04:19 > 1:04:24said Sam, "You'll have to show you're really sorry.
1:04:24 > 1:04:28"First, you'll need to pick up all the presents for the reindeer.
1:04:28 > 1:04:32"Then you'll have two help the elves reload the sleigh,
1:04:32 > 1:04:34"and the last but not least,
1:04:34 > 1:04:40"you must promise never to do it again."
1:04:40 > 1:04:44"Shivering snowflakes!" said Father Christmas.
1:04:44 > 1:04:47"That's exactly what I'll do."
1:04:47 > 1:04:51Just then, Sam's mum called up from the kitchen.
1:04:51 > 1:04:54"You can get off the naughty step now."
1:04:56 > 1:05:00And off they all went to say a heartfelt
1:05:00 > 1:05:02and very seasonal sorry.
1:05:04 > 1:05:08"Sorry, me hearties," said Captain Buckleboots.
1:05:10 > 1:05:13"Sorry," said Sam, oh-so-sweetly.
1:05:17 > 1:05:21And the next morning, not only did Sam find lots of presents
1:05:21 > 1:05:27under the tree, but also, a most surprising apology.
1:05:30 > 1:05:32"To Sam, I'm sorry I took your
1:05:32 > 1:05:36"new train before you'd even had a chance to play with it.
1:05:36 > 1:05:39"Next time, I promise to ask first.
1:05:39 > 1:05:42"Have a Merry Christmas and be good.
1:05:42 > 1:05:44"Love, Santa."
1:05:46 > 1:05:50So, despite Christmas getting off to a bit of a bad start,
1:05:50 > 1:05:56in the end a very happy Christmas was had by all.
1:05:57 > 1:06:02That story was called Father Christmas On The Naughty Step.
1:06:02 > 1:06:04Buttons enjoyed that story
1:06:04 > 1:06:07and is sorry about making a mess with the wool.
1:06:07 > 1:06:09After all, he was only playing.
1:06:11 > 1:06:13But playtime is over today.
1:06:13 > 1:06:18And it's time for Buttons and for you to go to bed.
