0:00:09 > 0:00:11Ah! Hello. I'm Dom.
0:00:11 > 0:00:16Now, do your friends make you happy? Yeah? Good!
0:00:16 > 0:00:18My friends make me happy too.
0:00:18 > 0:00:22There's someone in tonight's bedtime story who doesn't have any friends.
0:00:22 > 0:00:25Shall I tell you about him? Yeah.
0:00:25 > 0:00:28The story's called My Friend The Weather Monster
0:00:28 > 0:00:31and it's by Steve Smallman and Bruno Merz.
0:00:33 > 0:00:39In a dark, dreary cave high on a mountain lived the Weather Monster.
0:00:41 > 0:00:43When he felt happy, the sun shone.
0:00:43 > 0:00:47When he felt sad, it rained.
0:00:47 > 0:00:50And it had rained a lot lately.
0:00:50 > 0:00:54"How can we cheer up the Weather Monster and get some sunshine?"
0:00:54 > 0:00:57asked the soggy villagers down in the valley.
0:00:57 > 0:01:01"Let's make him a cake!" cried Tom, the baker's boy.
0:01:01 > 0:01:04"Great idea!" everyone agreed.
0:01:04 > 0:01:07But they were all too frightened to deliver it.
0:01:09 > 0:01:16Early next morning, shaking with fear, Tom climbed up the mountain.
0:01:16 > 0:01:20He carried a huge cake in his backpack.
0:01:20 > 0:01:26Tom reached the monster's cave. He was about to ring the bell when...
0:01:26 > 0:01:29a soft voice surprised him.
0:01:29 > 0:01:35"Hello!" said the Weather Monster. "My name is Ron. What's yours?"
0:01:35 > 0:01:37"Eek!" yelped Tom.
0:01:37 > 0:01:40"Pleased to meet you, Eek," said the Weather Monster.
0:01:40 > 0:01:43"Would you like some tea?"
0:01:43 > 0:01:45"Uh... OK," said Tom.
0:01:45 > 0:01:49"And I brought you a cake from the village."
0:01:50 > 0:01:55The Weather Monster smiled and the sun came out.
0:01:57 > 0:02:02"Why hasn't anybody come to visit me before?" asked the Weather Monster.
0:02:02 > 0:02:07"Well, they... They think you're a bit scary," said Tom.
0:02:07 > 0:02:11"Oh..." sniffed the Weather Monster.
0:02:11 > 0:02:14"So why did they send me a cake?"
0:02:14 > 0:02:18"Because they wanted to cheer you up," said Tom.
0:02:18 > 0:02:20"And get some sunshine."
0:02:20 > 0:02:24"Sunshine?!" shouted the Weather Monster angrily.
0:02:24 > 0:02:29"They don't care about how I feel, they just want the right weather!"
0:02:29 > 0:02:34Thunder roared and lightning flashed! Tom was scared.
0:02:37 > 0:02:41"Oh, I'm sorry," sniffed the Weather Monster.
0:02:41 > 0:02:45"I didn't mean to frighten you. I just get so lonely up here.
0:02:45 > 0:02:49"I hoped that maybe they wanted to be my friends."
0:02:49 > 0:02:52"I'm sure they do!" cried Tom.
0:02:52 > 0:02:56"Come down to the village with me and you'll see."
0:02:56 > 0:03:00When the villagers saw the Weather Monster
0:03:00 > 0:03:03lumbering towards them, they were scared.
0:03:03 > 0:03:06But then, they saw Tom
0:03:06 > 0:03:11sitting on the monster's shoulders with a big smile on his face.
0:03:11 > 0:03:14"Meet my friend Ron!" Tom called.
0:03:14 > 0:03:18The villagers all came out to meet Ron the Weather Monster
0:03:18 > 0:03:22and soon realised that he wasn't monstrous at all!
0:03:22 > 0:03:24Just a bit different.
0:03:24 > 0:03:29"Live here with us!" cried Tom, and everyone agreed.
0:03:29 > 0:03:31"Thank you," smiled Ron,
0:03:31 > 0:03:34"but I think I might be a bit big to live here."
0:03:36 > 0:03:40So from then on, the villagers took it in turns
0:03:40 > 0:03:44to visit Ron's cave for tea and cake almost every day.
0:03:44 > 0:03:47But nobody called him the Weather Monster any more.
0:03:47 > 0:03:50He was just Ron, their friend.
0:03:51 > 0:03:56And the sun shone.
0:03:56 > 0:03:59And that story was called My Friend The Weather Monster.
0:03:59 > 0:04:03How lovely that Tom and Ron became such good friends!
0:04:03 > 0:04:06Maybe you will dream about your friends tonight.
0:04:06 > 0:04:09See you soon for another bedtime story, yeah? Good.
0:04:09 > 0:04:11Night-night.
