0:00:22 > 0:00:25Mrs Large, in tonight's bedtime story,

0:00:25 > 0:00:28is desperate for five minutes' peace,

0:00:28 > 0:00:30but she isn't having much luck.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39The children were having breakfast.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42This was not a pleasant sight.

0:00:42 > 0:00:45Mrs Large took a tray from the cupboard.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47She set it with a teapot,

0:00:47 > 0:00:49a milk jug,

0:00:49 > 0:00:51her favourite cup and saucer,

0:00:51 > 0:00:53a plate of marmalade toast

0:00:53 > 0:00:56and a leftover cake from yesterday.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59She stuffed the morning paper in her pocket

0:00:59 > 0:01:02and sneaked off towards the door.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05"Where are you going with that tray, Mum?" asked Laura.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08"To the bathroom," said Mrs Large.

0:01:08 > 0:01:12"Why?" asked the other two children.

0:01:12 > 0:01:16"Because I want five minutes' peace from you lot,"

0:01:16 > 0:01:19said Mrs Large, "that's why."

0:01:19 > 0:01:22"Can we come?" asked Lester,

0:01:22 > 0:01:25as they trailed up the stairs behind her.

0:01:25 > 0:01:29"No," said Mrs Large, "you can't."

0:01:29 > 0:01:32"What shall we do, then?" asked Laura.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35"You can play," said Mrs Large,

0:01:35 > 0:01:40"downstairs by yourselves and keep an eye on the baby."

0:01:40 > 0:01:45"I'm not a baby," muttered the little one.

0:01:45 > 0:01:49Mrs Large ran a deep, hot bath.

0:01:49 > 0:01:52She emptied half a bottle of bath foam into the water,

0:01:52 > 0:01:56plonked a bath hat on and got in.

0:01:56 > 0:02:02She poured herself a cup of tea and lay back with her eyes closed.

0:02:02 > 0:02:03SHE SIGHS

0:02:03 > 0:02:05It was heaven.

0:02:05 > 0:02:09"Can I play you my tune?" asked Lester.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12Mrs Large opened one eye.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15"Must you?" she asked.

0:02:15 > 0:02:17"I've been practising," said Lester.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20"You told me to. Can I, please?

0:02:20 > 0:02:23"Just for one minute?"

0:02:23 > 0:02:26"Go on, then," sighed Mrs Large.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28So Lester played.

0:02:28 > 0:02:34He played Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star three-and-a-half times.

0:02:34 > 0:02:36In came Laura.

0:02:36 > 0:02:40"Can I read you a page from my reading book?" she asked.

0:02:40 > 0:02:42"No, Laura," said Mrs Large.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45"Go on, all of you, off downstairs."

0:02:45 > 0:02:50"You let Lester play his tune," said Laura. "I heard you.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53"You like him better than me. It's not fair."

0:02:53 > 0:02:57"Oh, don't be silly, Laura," said Mrs Large.

0:02:57 > 0:03:01"Go on, then. Just one page."

0:03:01 > 0:03:03So Laura read.

0:03:03 > 0:03:08She read four-and-a-half pages of Little Red Riding Hood.

0:03:08 > 0:03:12In came the little one with a trunk full of toys.

0:03:12 > 0:03:14"For you," he beamed,

0:03:14 > 0:03:16flinging them all into the bathwater.

0:03:16 > 0:03:20"Thank you, dear," said Mrs Large, weakly.

0:03:20 > 0:03:25"Can I see the cartoons in the paper?" asked Laura.

0:03:25 > 0:03:28"Can I have the cake?" asked Lester.

0:03:28 > 0:03:31"Can I get in with you?" asked the little one.

0:03:31 > 0:03:35Mrs Large groaned.

0:03:35 > 0:03:37In the end, they all got in.

0:03:37 > 0:03:39WATER SPLASHES

0:03:39 > 0:03:42The little one was in such a hurry

0:03:42 > 0:03:45that he forgot to take off his pyjamas.

0:03:45 > 0:03:47Mrs Large got out.

0:03:47 > 0:03:50She dried herself, put on a dressing gown

0:03:50 > 0:03:51and headed for the door.

0:03:51 > 0:03:55"Where are you going now, Mum?" asked Laura.

0:03:55 > 0:03:58"To the kitchen," said Mrs Large.

0:03:58 > 0:04:00"Why?" asked Lester.

0:04:00 > 0:04:06"Because I want five minutes' peace from you lot!" said Mrs Large.

0:04:06 > 0:04:10"That's why!" And off she went downstairs...

0:04:11 > 0:04:15..where she had three minutes and 45 seconds of peace,

0:04:15 > 0:04:18before they all came to join her.

0:04:18 > 0:04:22And that story was called Five Minutes' Peace.

0:04:22 > 0:04:23Poor Mrs Large.

0:04:23 > 0:04:26At least she had a little peace and quiet in the end.

0:04:26 > 0:04:32Well, it's time for us to be very peaceful now, because it's bedtime.

0:04:32 > 0:04:35So let's all go, "Ssh,"

0:04:35 > 0:04:38and settle down for a good night's sleep.
