0:00:12 > 0:00:15It's called Bringing Down The Moon

0:00:15 > 0:00:18and it's by Jonathan Emmett and Vanessa Cabban.

0:00:18 > 0:00:21"Hot diggerty!" exclaimed Mole,

0:00:21 > 0:00:24as he burrowed out of the ground one night.

0:00:24 > 0:00:26"Whatever's that?"

0:00:26 > 0:00:31The moon was hanging in the sky above him like a bright silver coin.

0:00:31 > 0:00:34Mole thought it was the most beautiful thing

0:00:34 > 0:00:36that he had ever seen.

0:00:36 > 0:00:40"Whatever it is, I must have it," Mole said to himself.

0:00:40 > 0:00:45"I know, I'll jump up and pull it down."

0:00:45 > 0:00:47Thump! Thump! Thumpety-bump!

0:00:47 > 0:00:51Mole was so busy jumping, he didn't think about the noise he was making

0:00:51 > 0:00:53and he woke up Rabbit.

0:00:53 > 0:00:57"Mole!" said Rabbit. "What on earth do you think you're doing?"

0:00:57 > 0:00:59"Hello, Rabbit," said Mole,

0:00:59 > 0:01:02"I'm trying to pull down that shiny thing."

0:01:02 > 0:01:05"You mean the moon?" asked Rabbit.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08"Ah, so that's what it's called," said Mole.

0:01:08 > 0:01:13"You'll never do that," said Rabbit. "It's not as near as it looks."

0:01:13 > 0:01:16But Mole would not give up.

0:01:16 > 0:01:20"I know," he thought, "I'll get a stick and poke it down."

0:01:20 > 0:01:24He found a long stick and he poked it up at the moon.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27Swish! Swish! Swishety-swish!

0:01:27 > 0:01:29Mole was so busy poking

0:01:29 > 0:01:33that he tripped over Hedgehog in his bed of leaves.

0:01:33 > 0:01:38"Mole!" grunted Hedgehog. "What the weevil are you up to?"

0:01:38 > 0:01:42"Hello, Hedgehog," said Mole. "I'm trying to poke down the moon."

0:01:42 > 0:01:45"Oh, you'll never do that," said Hedgehog.

0:01:45 > 0:01:47"It's not as near as it looks."

0:01:47 > 0:01:50But Mole would not give up.

0:01:50 > 0:01:54"I know," he thought, "I'll throw something at it and knock it down."

0:01:54 > 0:01:57He found some acorns and threw them at the moon.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00Plink-plink! Plinkety-plink!

0:02:00 > 0:02:04"Ouch!" said Squirrel. "Mole, have you gone nuts?"

0:02:04 > 0:02:06"Hello, Squirrel," said Mole.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08"I'm trying to knock down the moon."

0:02:08 > 0:02:11"You'll never do that," said Squirrel.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13"It's not as near as it looks."

0:02:15 > 0:02:18But Mole wanted the moon so badly

0:02:18 > 0:02:20he would not give up.

0:02:20 > 0:02:25"I know," he thought, "I'll climb a tree and I will fetch it down."

0:02:25 > 0:02:28Mole had never climbed a tree before.

0:02:28 > 0:02:32It was hard work and he was scared to be so far from the ground.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35But he kept on going until he saw the moon

0:02:35 > 0:02:38resting in the leaves above him.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41Mole stretched out his paws,

0:02:41 > 0:02:44but just when he thought he had the moon, he slipped.

0:02:44 > 0:02:47"Oh! Eek! Ouch! Ooo!"

0:02:47 > 0:02:48Mole tumbled down

0:02:48 > 0:02:52and landed - splash! - in the middle of a puddle.

0:02:52 > 0:02:54"Hot dang diggerty drat," thought Mole.

0:02:54 > 0:02:56"I almost had it that time."

0:02:56 > 0:03:01Then he noticed something floating in the puddle beside him.

0:03:01 > 0:03:03It was pale...

0:03:03 > 0:03:05and wrinkled...

0:03:05 > 0:03:08but Mole recognised it at once.

0:03:08 > 0:03:12"Ah! The moon!" whispered Mole.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15"It must have fallen down with me."

0:03:15 > 0:03:18He reached out to pick up the moon,

0:03:18 > 0:03:22but as soon as he touched it, it broke into pieces and vanished.

0:03:23 > 0:03:27Mole sat in the puddle and cried.

0:03:27 > 0:03:31Rabbit, Hedgehog and Squirrel came running up.

0:03:31 > 0:03:35"Are you all right, Mole?" asked Rabbit.

0:03:35 > 0:03:40"I'm all right," sobbed Mole, "but the moon isn't."

0:03:40 > 0:03:43"I pulled it down and then I broke it!

0:03:43 > 0:03:46"And it was so beautiful!

0:03:46 > 0:03:49"And now I shall never see it again."

0:03:49 > 0:03:52"Oh, Mole," said Rabbit.

0:03:52 > 0:03:55"You couldn't have pulled down the moon."

0:03:55 > 0:03:58"And you couldn't have broken it," said Hedgehog.

0:03:58 > 0:04:01"And you'll certainly see it again," said Squirrel.

0:04:01 > 0:04:04"Look!"

0:04:04 > 0:04:06High up in the sky above them,

0:04:06 > 0:04:09the moon was coming out from behind a cloud.

0:04:10 > 0:04:14"Oh!" whispered Mole.

0:04:16 > 0:04:19"And it's just as beautiful as ever."

0:04:19 > 0:04:22Mole, Rabbit, Hedgehog and Squirrel

0:04:22 > 0:04:25stood and stared up at the moon together.

0:04:26 > 0:04:29"It is beautiful," said Rabbit.

0:04:32 > 0:04:37"Very beautiful indeed," said Squirrel.

0:04:38 > 0:04:43"Yes," said Mole, "but it's not as near as it looks."
