0:40:07 > 0:40:09Oh, hello. I'm Nicola.

0:40:09 > 0:40:13The teddies and I are just having a cup of tea before bedtime.

0:40:13 > 0:40:15Are you ready for a story?

0:40:15 > 0:40:18Great. This is one of my favourite.

0:40:18 > 0:40:21It's called Sally's Secret and it's by Shirley Hughes.

0:40:21 > 0:40:27Once, there was a little girl called Sally who liked making houses.

0:40:27 > 0:40:30She made them in all sorts of places-

0:40:30 > 0:40:34behind curtains, under tables,

0:40:34 > 0:40:37inside boxes and under umbrellas.

0:40:37 > 0:40:42Sometimes, she took some fruit and some biscuits to eat in her house.

0:40:42 > 0:40:47Then, she would make a little bed inside and pretend to go to sleep.

0:40:47 > 0:40:50Often, some tidy person would come along and spoil one of

0:40:50 > 0:40:55Sally's houses by mistake and she would have to begin all over again.

0:40:55 > 0:40:57It was very annoying.

0:40:57 > 0:41:01One day, Sally found a secret house which nobody knew about.

0:41:01 > 0:41:04It was in a bush at the bottom of the garden.

0:41:04 > 0:41:07There was a hole in it just right for a front door

0:41:07 > 0:41:10and inside were leafy walls and room in the middle

0:41:10 > 0:41:13for Sally to stand up straight.

0:41:13 > 0:41:15The floor was of earth and it smelt lovely.

0:41:15 > 0:41:18Sally fetched her own little chair.

0:41:18 > 0:41:22Then she brought her best rose pattern tea set

0:41:22 > 0:41:24with all the handles still on it.

0:41:24 > 0:41:26She swept the floor with a branch

0:41:26 > 0:41:30and made a little path of stones up to the front door.

0:41:30 > 0:41:32Then, Sally ran to ask her mother

0:41:32 > 0:41:35if she could have some tea to take into her secret house.

0:41:35 > 0:41:37Mother gave her some plums

0:41:37 > 0:41:40and tiny biscuits with pink and white icing

0:41:40 > 0:41:43and some real milk and lump sugar for the tea set.

0:41:43 > 0:41:46Sally set out all the things in her house.

0:41:46 > 0:41:50She arranged the plums and biscuits on some big leaves

0:41:50 > 0:41:52and bunches of flowers in a jam jar.

0:41:52 > 0:41:56When everything was ready, it looked elegant.

0:41:56 > 0:41:58Sally was so pleased,

0:41:58 > 0:42:02she didn't want her secret house to be secret any more.

0:42:02 > 0:42:05She wanted to show it to somebody.

0:42:05 > 0:42:08Her friend, Rose, was in the next-door garden,

0:42:08 > 0:42:09playing in her sandpit.

0:42:09 > 0:42:13"Come and have a tea party in my secret house," said Sally.

0:42:13 > 0:42:16Rose said she would come if she could dress up.

0:42:16 > 0:42:21So, Sally showed Rose her secret house and they had a tea party.

0:42:21 > 0:42:24Rose looked very smart in a hat and shawl

0:42:24 > 0:42:29and Sally poured out and asked, "Do you take sugar?"

0:42:29 > 0:42:31They talked about babies,

0:42:31 > 0:42:33just like a grown-up ladies.

0:42:33 > 0:42:36When all the plums and biscuits were eaten

0:42:36 > 0:42:38and only the crumbs were left,

0:42:38 > 0:42:41they heard a swishy noise outside the house.

0:42:41 > 0:42:43Someone was coming.

0:42:43 > 0:42:45It was a striped cat.

0:42:45 > 0:42:49She came into the house and sniffed all the tea cups.

0:42:49 > 0:42:52Then, she rubbed her soft head against Sally's legs

0:42:52 > 0:42:55and walked proudly out again.

0:42:56 > 0:42:59A little while later, a brown bird

0:42:59 > 0:43:01fluttered in through their front door.

0:43:01 > 0:43:04He looked at them with his head on one side.

0:43:04 > 0:43:07Sally and Rose sat very still.

0:43:07 > 0:43:09He hopped about, ate some crumbs,

0:43:09 > 0:43:11and then, off he went.

0:43:11 > 0:43:15The last visitor was a ladybird

0:43:15 > 0:43:18hurrying across one of the leaf plates.

0:43:18 > 0:43:22"That's one, two, three, four visitors

0:43:22 > 0:43:24"I've had in my secret house,"

0:43:24 > 0:43:27said Sally, counting on her fingers.

0:43:27 > 0:43:30"Let's stay here for ever," said Rose.

0:43:30 > 0:43:33But they couldn't, because it was bedtime.

0:43:35 > 0:43:38And that story was called Sally's Secret.

0:43:38 > 0:43:41It's time for you to go to bed, too, now.

0:43:41 > 0:43:42Hope you sleep tight.

0:43:42 > 0:43:46I'll be back soon to tell you another bedtime story.

0:43:46 > 0:43:48Now, I'd better tidy up my tea set

0:43:48 > 0:43:52so it's ready to play with again tomorrow.
