0:13:14 > 0:13:18Tonight's Bedtime Story is all about a tiny mouse who sets out

0:13:18 > 0:13:21on a very big adventure.

0:13:21 > 0:13:25It's called "Can I Come Too?"

0:13:25 > 0:13:28and is by Brian Patten and Nicola Bayley.

0:13:30 > 0:13:38A very small mouse decided it wanted to have a very big adventure.

0:13:38 > 0:13:42"I'll go and find the biggest creature in the world," it thought.

0:13:42 > 0:13:45By the lake, it met the frog.

0:13:45 > 0:13:47RIBBET, RIBBET

0:13:47 > 0:13:51"Are you the biggest creature in the world?" it asked.

0:13:51 > 0:13:54"No," said Frog.

0:13:55 > 0:14:00But it's very brave of you to look for it. Can I come too?

0:14:00 > 0:14:03"Of course," said the mouse.

0:14:03 > 0:14:07"Just because we're small doesn't mean we can't have a big adventure."

0:14:08 > 0:14:13On a branch overhanging the river, they met a bird...

0:14:13 > 0:14:16made out of rainbows.

0:14:16 > 0:14:18It was the kingfisher.

0:14:19 > 0:14:24"I'm a rather small bird, but I'd love to see what the biggest

0:14:24 > 0:14:27"creature in the world is. Can I come too?"

0:14:29 > 0:14:33Dozing on a wall in the sunlight was the cat.

0:14:33 > 0:14:36It opened an eye as they passed, and said...

0:14:36 > 0:14:38MEOW

0:14:38 > 0:14:42"I'm curious to see the biggest creature in the world.

0:14:42 > 0:14:44"I'll come too."

0:14:45 > 0:14:50They met an otter on the river bank, where wild flowers grew.

0:14:50 > 0:14:55"Perhaps you're the biggest creature in the world," said the mouse.

0:14:55 > 0:14:59"I'm afraid not," said the otter.

0:14:59 > 0:15:00"but I wonder what is.

0:15:02 > 0:15:04"Can I come too?"

0:15:04 > 0:15:11In the wood, where everything glowed with a green light, sat the badger.

0:15:11 > 0:15:16"Its legs are far too short for it to be the biggest creature,"

0:15:16 > 0:15:18sniffed the cat.

0:15:18 > 0:15:23"But I'd love to see what is," said the badger. "Can I come too?"

0:15:25 > 0:15:31They crossed a little bridge in a small valley full of tiny things.

0:15:31 > 0:15:36Dragonflies darted about, lizards lazed on the stones

0:15:36 > 0:15:41and a water vole washed its whiskers at the river's edge.

0:15:41 > 0:15:45But they saw nothing big, so on they went.

0:15:46 > 0:15:49When they saw the dog, the cat said,

0:15:49 > 0:15:52"He's the scruffiest creature in the world,

0:15:52 > 0:15:54"but he's certainly not the biggest."

0:15:54 > 0:16:00And the dog said, "I wonder what on Earth the biggest thing is."

0:16:00 > 0:16:01Can I come too?

0:16:03 > 0:16:06Halfway up a tree on the mountainside,

0:16:06 > 0:16:08they met the goat.

0:16:10 > 0:16:14"I can see some very large creatures from up here," it said.

0:16:14 > 0:16:19"Well, I'm looking for the biggest of them all," said the mouse.

0:16:20 > 0:16:23And the goat said, "Can I come too?"

0:16:24 > 0:16:30In the zoo, they saw a tiger with paws as big as frying pans.

0:16:31 > 0:16:37"You're the most fantastic creature in the world," declared the mouse.

0:16:37 > 0:16:41"But I'm not the biggest," said the tiger.

0:16:41 > 0:16:45"If I promise not to eat anyone, can I come too?"

0:16:46 > 0:16:49Polar Bear followed them out of the zoo.

0:16:49 > 0:16:53Its coat was as white as snow.

0:16:53 > 0:16:57"I know where the biggest creature in the world lives," it said.

0:16:57 > 0:17:01"It swims in the ocean where the river ends,

0:17:01 > 0:17:04"and I'm going to see it now."

0:17:04 > 0:17:08And the little mouse said, "Can we all come too?"

0:17:08 > 0:17:10So off they went.

0:17:11 > 0:17:17The mouse, the frog, the kingfisher, the otter, the cat,

0:17:17 > 0:17:21the badger, the dog, the goat, the tiger

0:17:21 > 0:17:26and the polar bear followed the river to the ocean.

0:17:26 > 0:17:30The mouse was VERY excited.

0:17:31 > 0:17:34"I wonder what I'm going to see."

0:17:34 > 0:17:37It was something as big as an island.

0:17:37 > 0:17:41Something bigger than one million mice.

0:17:41 > 0:17:44Seagulls flew above it.

0:17:44 > 0:17:46Dolphins leapt around it.

0:17:46 > 0:17:48It was...

0:17:48 > 0:17:50the whale.

0:17:50 > 0:17:53The animals stood watching the whale

0:17:53 > 0:17:55until it plunged back beneath the waves.

0:17:55 > 0:17:57SPLASH!

0:17:57 > 0:18:00"We would never have seen such a wonderful thing without you,"

0:18:00 > 0:18:03they said to the little mouse.

0:18:03 > 0:18:10And the little mouse said, "I'm so glad you could all come too."

0:18:10 > 0:18:13And then...night fell,

0:18:14 > 0:18:19and all the sleepy creatures decided it was time to go back home.

0:18:19 > 0:18:25The mouse was so happy to have seen the biggest creature in the world.

0:18:25 > 0:18:28That night, it thought to itself,

0:18:28 > 0:18:34"I might be tiny, but I've had a very big adventure."

0:18:34 > 0:18:39And then it curled up into a little ball and fell fast asleep.

0:18:43 > 0:18:48And that story was called "Can I Come Too?"
