0:00:04 > 0:00:08Hello, there. My name's Matt, and I wonder if you can help me.

0:00:08 > 0:00:12I'm on an adventure and I'm trying to follow this map.

0:00:12 > 0:00:15I started here...and I want to get to here.

0:00:15 > 0:00:18But don't know which way to turn. What do you think?

0:00:18 > 0:00:21In tonight's bedtime story, Mr Bear has a map,

0:00:21 > 0:00:25and I'm not sure that he knows where he's going, either.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28The story is called Mr Bear's Holiday.

0:00:28 > 0:00:32"Look, Small, a postcard has come for you," said Mrs Bear,

0:00:32 > 0:00:36"from the Grizzle Bears. Lucky them, they're on holiday."

0:00:36 > 0:00:39"Can we go on holiday?" said Small Bear,

0:00:39 > 0:00:43"On a plane, or a rocket, or a ship or a train?"

0:00:43 > 0:00:46"A holiday?" said Mr Bear. "That's a good idea.

0:00:46 > 0:00:48"How about...in a tent?"

0:00:48 > 0:00:54"What's a tent?" asked Small Bear. "Wait and see," said Mrs Bear,

0:00:54 > 0:00:58"let's have breakfast first." Afterwards, they got ready.

0:00:58 > 0:01:02Mr Bear found the tent, Small Bear found the sleeping bags,

0:01:02 > 0:01:07Baby Bear found the map. Mrs Bear organised the food.

0:01:07 > 0:01:12Sun cream, candles and sunglasses, hats, cups, forks, knives, spoons,

0:01:12 > 0:01:16matches, elastoplasts, and four honey sandwiches, just in case.

0:01:16 > 0:01:19By lunchtime, they were ready.

0:01:19 > 0:01:22"I love holidays," said Small Bear, as they set off.

0:01:22 > 0:01:26"Where are we going?" "Wait and see," said Mr Bear,

0:01:26 > 0:01:30staggering under the weight of the rucksack. "It's an adventure."

0:01:30 > 0:01:33It was a very long adventure.

0:01:33 > 0:01:36First they stopped to change Baby Bear's nappy.

0:01:36 > 0:01:40"Are we there yet?" said Small Bear. "Not yet," said Mr Bear.

0:01:40 > 0:01:44A little later they stopped to eat their sandwiches.

0:01:44 > 0:01:47"When are we going to be there?" said Small Bear.

0:01:47 > 0:01:51"Soon," said Mr Bear, "be patient."

0:01:51 > 0:01:54A long time later they stopped to look at the map.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57"Do you know where we're going?" said Small Bear.

0:01:57 > 0:02:04"Sort of," said Mr Bear. "Not far now," he added hopefully.

0:02:04 > 0:02:07The sun was beginning to slip behind the trees

0:02:07 > 0:02:09when Mr Bear finally stopped.

0:02:09 > 0:02:13"Here we are," he groaned, dropping the rucksack.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15Small Bear looked around.

0:02:15 > 0:02:20"Is this a holiday?" she said suspiciously.

0:02:20 > 0:02:24"No!" snapped Mr Bear. "It's an adventure."

0:02:24 > 0:02:27Small Bear's bottom lip began to quiver.

0:02:27 > 0:02:31"Let's go and find some wood for the fire," said Mrs Bear,

0:02:31 > 0:02:35"and leave Dad and Baby Bear to put up the tent."

0:02:35 > 0:02:38Mrs Bear and Small Bear headed for the woods.

0:02:38 > 0:02:42Mr Bear unrolled the tent. Several hundred moths flew out.

0:02:42 > 0:02:46Baby Bear clapped her paws in delight.

0:02:46 > 0:02:50"Oh, dear," said Mr Bear, "poor tent."

0:02:50 > 0:02:53Baby Bear watched the tent in silent wonder

0:02:53 > 0:02:58as Mr Bear struggled heroically. Ropes snapped and poles bent,

0:02:58 > 0:03:01but at last the tent was up.

0:03:01 > 0:03:05"There!" said Mr Bear. "Perfect for the four of us."

0:03:05 > 0:03:09"But I found my friend," said Small Bear, running back,

0:03:09 > 0:03:14"Flora loves holidays." "Yes," sighed Mrs Bear,

0:03:14 > 0:03:19"we met Flora and her family in the woods, we could hardly say no."

0:03:19 > 0:03:23The first stars were just appearing in the sky as the Bear family,

0:03:23 > 0:03:26and their guest, sat down to supper.

0:03:26 > 0:03:30"I'm sorry it's a bit burnt," said Mrs Bear.

0:03:30 > 0:03:34"It's delicious," said Mr Bear, "this is what holidays are about.

0:03:34 > 0:03:40"Firelight, starlight and supper in the open air."

0:03:40 > 0:03:43A large cloud blotted out the stars, and from nowhere

0:03:43 > 0:03:48a chill wind began to blow. The bears huddled around the fire,

0:03:48 > 0:03:51Flora climbed onto Small Bear's lap,

0:03:51 > 0:03:57Mr Bear rummaged in the rucksack. "Oh, dear," he said.

0:03:57 > 0:04:00"What's the matter?" said Mrs Bear.

0:04:00 > 0:04:03"I, er, forgot to pack the sleeping bags," said Mr Bear.

0:04:03 > 0:04:06Baby Bear began to cry.

0:04:06 > 0:04:11Small Bear's bottom lip began to wobble dangerously.

0:04:11 > 0:04:15"Never mind," muttered Mrs Bear, glaring at Mr Bear,

0:04:15 > 0:04:19"we'll just huddle together in our nice warm tent."

0:04:19 > 0:04:22It wasn't much warmer in the nice warm tent.

0:04:22 > 0:04:26"Look," said Small Bear, "I can see the stars through the roof."

0:04:26 > 0:04:30"Yes," said Mrs Bear, "and you can feel the wind, too."

0:04:30 > 0:04:33"What's that?" said Mr Bear.

0:04:33 > 0:04:36"What?" said Mrs Bear.

0:04:36 > 0:04:40"That snorting sound," whispered Mr Bear,

0:04:40 > 0:04:43"outside, listen!"

0:04:43 > 0:04:45The bears fell silent.

0:04:45 > 0:04:48Flora's ears twitched.

0:04:48 > 0:04:52"Look," said Mrs Bear in a trembly whisper, "there, on the wall."

0:04:52 > 0:04:55"Argh!" screamed Mr Bear.

0:04:55 > 0:04:58"It's a monster!" wailed Small Bear.

0:04:58 > 0:05:00"Moo-oo!" said the monster.

0:05:00 > 0:05:04Mr Bear stuck his head out of the tent to investigate.

0:05:04 > 0:05:06"Oh, dear!" he said.

0:05:06 > 0:05:10"Moo! Snort!" said the monster, leaning on the tent.

0:05:10 > 0:05:14"Quick! Let's go!" yelled Mr Bear, stuffing the little bears

0:05:14 > 0:05:18into his rucksack and pulling Mrs Bear and Flora after him.

0:05:18 > 0:05:22They sprinted away from the tent just as it collapsed

0:05:22 > 0:05:24under the weight of a curious cow.

0:05:24 > 0:05:27The bears walked home by moonlight.

0:05:27 > 0:05:30As they returned Flora to her burrow, a shadow

0:05:30 > 0:05:34swooped down from the treetops. The Bear family yelped.

0:05:34 > 0:05:37"It's only me," said Mr Hoot-towitt,

0:05:37 > 0:05:42"you're all so jumpy, I think you need a holiday."

0:05:42 > 0:05:45"We've only just had a holiday," said Small Bear.

0:05:45 > 0:05:49"Did you have a nice time?" said Mr Hoot-towitt.

0:05:49 > 0:05:52The bears smiled a secret smile.

0:05:52 > 0:05:54"Well," laughed Mr Bear,

0:05:54 > 0:05:59"I think we all need another holiday to recover...from our holiday."

0:05:59 > 0:06:03And that story was called Mr Bear's Holiday.

0:06:03 > 0:06:07I think I should go back home for some honey sandwiches before

0:06:07 > 0:06:11I carry on with this adventure - I'm feeling pretty hungry.

0:06:11 > 0:06:15I'll see you soon for another story. Night-night!
