0:15:07 > 0:15:09Hello, I'm Charlie.
0:15:09 > 0:15:13It's nearly time for you to be getting ready for bed
0:15:13 > 0:15:16but while you're going to sleep tonight there are some
0:15:16 > 0:15:18animals who will be just waking up.
0:15:18 > 0:15:21They're called "nocturnal" animals.
0:15:21 > 0:15:24They stay awake at night and sleep in the daytime.
0:15:24 > 0:15:29Tonight's bedtime story is about a nocturnal animal - a little fox.
0:15:29 > 0:15:32Would you like to hear it?
0:15:32 > 0:15:35It's called "Time For Bed, Little One."
0:15:35 > 0:15:39And it's by Caroline Pitcher and Tina Macnaughton.
0:15:41 > 0:15:44"Time for bed, little one", said Mother Fox.
0:15:44 > 0:15:47"The moon is melting away and the sun is getting up.
0:15:47 > 0:15:50"It's time foxes were asleep."
0:15:50 > 0:15:53"But I'm not sleepy", Little Fox said.
0:15:53 > 0:15:59"My friend's are only just waking! Please, can I have one more play?"
0:15:59 > 0:16:02"Just one more play then, little cub."
0:16:02 > 0:16:05So, Little Fox scampered off into the wood,
0:16:05 > 0:16:08where an owl was flying softly overhead.
0:16:08 > 0:16:10"Hello, Owl, will you play with me?"
0:16:10 > 0:16:12asked Fox.
0:16:12 > 0:16:15"I'm on my way home to bed", hooted Owl.
0:16:15 > 0:16:17"And you should be too...oooh."
0:16:17 > 0:16:20"But I'm not sleepy!" Little Fox cried
0:16:20 > 0:16:25and he charged into a woodland glade, where Fawn was waking up.
0:16:25 > 0:16:28"Play with me?" asked Little Fox.
0:16:28 > 0:16:32"It's breakfast time for us", said gentle Mother Deer.
0:16:32 > 0:16:34"Shouldn't you be going home?"
0:16:34 > 0:16:36"The sun is turning the sky to gold
0:16:36 > 0:16:39and foxes should be down in their dens."
0:16:39 > 0:16:44"But I'm not sleepy", Little Fox cried and he skipped away again.
0:16:44 > 0:16:49As Fox raced into the sunshine, a butterfly fluttered passed his nose.
0:16:49 > 0:16:51He bounded after it,
0:16:51 > 0:16:54jumping and bouncing all the way to the river bank.
0:16:54 > 0:16:55WATER SPLASHES
0:16:55 > 0:16:58Someone was busy in the water.
0:16:58 > 0:17:00It was Otter!
0:17:00 > 0:17:03He was twisting and turning in the rippling river,
0:17:03 > 0:17:05rolling through the bubbles.
0:17:05 > 0:17:08"Will you play with me?" called Little Fox
0:17:08 > 0:17:09but Otter squeaked,
0:17:09 > 0:17:14"I'm busy now, I'm catching fish and dragonflies too!"
0:17:14 > 0:17:19"Otter's allowed to stay up all day...", thought Little Fox.
0:17:19 > 0:17:23"He doesn't have to go to sleep and miss everything!"
0:17:23 > 0:17:28Just then, an acorn rolled across the grass near Fox's paw.
0:17:29 > 0:17:33He looked up and there was Squirrel, high up on a branch.
0:17:33 > 0:17:37"Catch me if you can", she cried and dashed down the tree,
0:17:37 > 0:17:39shaking her shimmering tail!
0:17:39 > 0:17:43They raced into the woods, through the crackly bracken,
0:17:43 > 0:17:46scattering the leaves and leaping over logs.
0:17:46 > 0:17:49The woods were rich with the smell of feathers and fur
0:17:49 > 0:17:51and peppery leaves.
0:17:51 > 0:17:53But Little Fox was getting tired
0:17:53 > 0:17:55and began to trail behind.
0:17:57 > 0:17:59"Please wait for me", he panted.
0:17:59 > 0:18:03"But I've got oodles of energy left", chattered Squirrel.
0:18:03 > 0:18:07"Maybe you should be going to bed!"
0:18:07 > 0:18:10Squirrel danced along the branch, leaping from tree to tree,
0:18:10 > 0:18:13all the way through the woods.
0:18:13 > 0:18:15Then it was quiet.
0:18:15 > 0:18:18Little Fox was by himself.
0:18:18 > 0:18:19HE SIGHS
0:18:19 > 0:18:22"It's not fair", he thought.
0:18:22 > 0:18:25"When I get up tonight, there'll be no-one left awake!
0:18:25 > 0:18:28"I'll be all alone again."
0:18:28 > 0:18:31Little Fox sighed and padded home.
0:18:31 > 0:18:35He was so tired he could hardly even lift his head
0:18:35 > 0:18:39and he nearly bumped into Badger.
0:18:39 > 0:18:40"Are you off to bed,
0:18:40 > 0:18:42"Little Fox?" Badger asked.
0:18:42 > 0:18:46"I'm so tired I can't wait to be snuggled in my set."
0:18:46 > 0:18:49"Will you be there when I get up?
0:18:49 > 0:18:52"We can play chase in the moonlight!"
0:18:52 > 0:18:57"Yes! Oh, yes, I will", cried Fox and he trotted on home!
0:18:57 > 0:19:00At last he had a friend to play with in the night.
0:19:01 > 0:19:05Back in his den, Little Fox nestled down with his mum.
0:19:05 > 0:19:09She nuzzled his ears and they cuddled up safe,
0:19:09 > 0:19:11a cosy pile of paws and tails.
0:19:13 > 0:19:16"Sleep well, my little one", his mother said.
0:19:16 > 0:19:19"When the moon is high and the stars crackle in the dark,
0:19:19 > 0:19:22"You'll wake up, full of life again!"
0:19:22 > 0:19:25And Little Fox fell fast asleep.
0:19:27 > 0:19:30That story was called "Time For Bed, Little One".
0:19:30 > 0:19:34Now it's time for you to go to bed and get some rest.
0:19:34 > 0:19:37You need to be full of energy tomorrow to play
0:19:37 > 0:19:39with your friends, just like Little Fox.
0:19:39 > 0:19:42Perhaps someone who loves you will tuck you in
0:19:42 > 0:19:44and give you a good night cuddle.
0:19:44 > 0:19:47I hope you sleep tight.
0:19:47 > 0:19:50I'll see you again very soon, night-night!
