0:27:07 > 0:27:09Hello. I'm Nicola.
0:27:09 > 0:27:13Sometimes it can be hard to go to sleep, can't it?
0:27:13 > 0:27:16Maybe a bedtime story will help.
0:27:16 > 0:27:20This story is called Little Chick And The Secret Of Sleep.
0:27:20 > 0:27:24It's by Malachy Doyle and Gill McLean.
0:27:24 > 0:27:27Little Chick's family were all fast asleep
0:27:27 > 0:27:29but Little Chick wasn't.
0:27:29 > 0:27:31She peeked out of the peep hole
0:27:31 > 0:27:34and saw a great silvery moon shining on the river.
0:27:34 > 0:27:37She followed the moonlight to the end of the river,
0:27:37 > 0:27:40where it danced out over the sea.
0:27:40 > 0:27:44Little Chick hopped into a boat.
0:27:44 > 0:27:47"Maybe I can sleep here," she thought.
0:27:47 > 0:27:50But when Little Chick tried to sleep,
0:27:50 > 0:27:51she just couldn't.
0:27:51 > 0:27:54The waves were too noisy, the wind was too cold.
0:27:54 > 0:27:58"Oh, what's the secret of sleep?" she peeped.
0:27:59 > 0:28:02"Follow me," said the moon, "and I'll show you."
0:28:02 > 0:28:05Over the water went Little Chick,
0:28:05 > 0:28:08till she came to Monkey Island.
0:28:09 > 0:28:14"What's the secret of sleep?" she asked a lonely monkey.
0:28:14 > 0:28:17"It's so boring here alone," said Monkey,
0:28:17 > 0:28:21"I never get tired enough to sleep."
0:28:21 > 0:28:23So Little Chick raced Monkey
0:28:23 > 0:28:27and Monkey chased Little Chick.
0:28:27 > 0:28:30Soon, Monkey was soundly snoozing.
0:28:30 > 0:28:35"So you have to be tired to sleep," peeped Little Chick.
0:28:35 > 0:28:38"Yes," said the moon, "but that's not all."
0:28:38 > 0:28:43Monkey and Little Chick sailed away to The Island Of Fire.
0:28:43 > 0:28:46"Hello," said Little Chick to a baby dragon,
0:28:46 > 0:28:48"Do you know any secrets of sleep?"
0:28:48 > 0:28:51"No, I can't sleep either.
0:28:51 > 0:28:55"I'm too scared of big dragon monsters," said Dragon.
0:28:55 > 0:28:59Little Chick sang Dragon one of her mama's cluckabies
0:28:59 > 0:29:02till he was deeply dozing.
0:29:02 > 0:29:07"So you have to be tired and you have to feel safe," she said.
0:29:08 > 0:29:13"Yes," said the moon, "but sometimes even that's not enough."
0:29:13 > 0:29:16The boat set sail to The Land Of Icicles.
0:29:16 > 0:29:19The wind was sharp, the sky was frozen
0:29:19 > 0:29:23and poor Little Chick was all shivery shaky.
0:29:23 > 0:29:26So the baby dragon puffed warm air all around her
0:29:26 > 0:29:31till she was warm as toast and dozy, too.
0:29:31 > 0:29:36"Oh, you have to be cosy as cosy can be," said Little Chick.
0:29:37 > 0:29:42They sailed a long way away and Little Chick's eyes began to close.
0:29:42 > 0:29:43But not for long!
0:29:43 > 0:29:48For there on Mighty Island was a herd of noisy elephants.
0:29:48 > 0:29:51"Ta-rum, ta-ra," they sang.
0:29:51 > 0:29:55"The trumpet all night," moaned a tired little Jumbo,
0:29:55 > 0:29:58"I can never sleep!"
0:29:58 > 0:30:01"Ah," said Little Chick, "so it has to be quiet.
0:30:01 > 0:30:06"Well, I know a place that's quiet at night."
0:30:06 > 0:30:09So she sailed away with her three new friends.
0:30:11 > 0:30:14"You're back, Little Chick!" clucked Mama and Papa.
0:30:14 > 0:30:20"Yes. And I think I can sleep now," yawned Little Chick.
0:30:20 > 0:30:25For at last she'd found all the secrets of sleep.
0:30:25 > 0:30:32You need to be tired, safe, cosy and quiet.
0:30:32 > 0:30:35That story was called Little Chick And The Secret Of Sleep.
0:30:35 > 0:30:37I hope you enjoyed it.
