0:51:07 > 0:51:10Hello. My name's Ben. I wonder if you can help me.
0:51:10 > 0:51:12I'm trying to decide which hat I should wear.
0:51:12 > 0:51:14This one is quite nice, sparkly.
0:51:14 > 0:51:16But there's this red one.
0:51:16 > 0:51:18There's lots to choose from.
0:51:18 > 0:51:22Tonight's story is all about a little pig who loves wearing hats.
0:51:22 > 0:51:25Would you like to hear it? Great!
0:51:25 > 0:51:30It's called Hamilton's Hats by Martine Oborne and Axel Scheffler.
0:51:31 > 0:51:35Hamilton the Pig was very fond of hats.
0:51:35 > 0:51:38He had big hats, small hats,
0:51:38 > 0:51:40tall hats, floppy hats,
0:51:40 > 0:51:42stripy hats, feathery hats and
0:51:42 > 0:51:46- suitable-for-every-and-any-occasion sort of hats.- BOING!
0:51:46 > 0:51:48In fact, he had so many hats
0:51:48 > 0:51:53that you would need more than all your fingers and toes to count them.
0:51:53 > 0:51:55When Hamilton the Pig's mum
0:51:55 > 0:51:58saw Hamilton messing about in his hats, she worried.
0:51:58 > 0:52:02"Hamilton," she would say, "You are a very vain little pig
0:52:02 > 0:52:05"and I do not know what is to become of you.
0:52:05 > 0:52:07"You have many lessons to learn in life
0:52:07 > 0:52:10"and will learn none of them from hats."
0:52:10 > 0:52:12But Hamilton did not listen.
0:52:12 > 0:52:16He was too busy tipping and cocking, raising and straightening
0:52:16 > 0:52:19and doing all the other things you do with hats.
0:52:19 > 0:52:22One day, Hamilton the Pig was out and about
0:52:22 > 0:52:25when he bumped into a giraffe.
0:52:25 > 0:52:27Hamilton was wearing a tall,
0:52:27 > 0:52:30teetering, high-as-a-chimney sort of hat.
0:52:30 > 0:52:35"My hat makes me almost as tall as you," he said to the giraffe.
0:52:35 > 0:52:39The giraffe snorted, and with one fell swoop snatched up
0:52:39 > 0:52:42the hat and flipped it onto her head.
0:52:42 > 0:52:45"Hmm, indeed. A very fine hat," she said,
0:52:45 > 0:52:48ignoring the hot cross piglet below.
0:52:48 > 0:52:50"I should like to keep it for myself.
0:52:50 > 0:52:54"But if you are really determined to get your hat back,
0:52:54 > 0:52:57"you must climb up my long, long neck to get it."
0:52:57 > 0:53:01Hamilton looked up at the giraffe's long, long legs and long, long neck.
0:53:01 > 0:53:04It is not easy for little pigs to climb,
0:53:04 > 0:53:06but Hamilton did want his hat back.
0:53:06 > 0:53:09And so he decided to do it.
0:53:09 > 0:53:11It was horrid.
0:53:11 > 0:53:14The giraffe kept wriggling her neck
0:53:14 > 0:53:17because she said Hamilton was so tickly.
0:53:17 > 0:53:19But Hamilton was determined.
0:53:19 > 0:53:23And so at last he got his hat.
0:53:23 > 0:53:27"Whee!" he cried, as he slid down the back of the giraffe's neck
0:53:27 > 0:53:29and bumped down to the ground.
0:53:29 > 0:53:34"I am a very determined pig and I have my hat."
0:53:34 > 0:53:37The next day, Hamilton the Pig was out and about
0:53:37 > 0:53:41when he came across a crocodile.
0:53:41 > 0:53:44Hamilton was wearing a fierce, pointy,
0:53:44 > 0:53:46snap-your-tail-off sort of hat.
0:53:46 > 0:53:51"My hat makes me almost as fierce as you," he said to the crocodile.
0:53:51 > 0:53:55The crocodile yawned, and with a quick slurpity-slurp,
0:53:55 > 0:53:58snaffled the hat deep inside his mouth.
0:53:58 > 0:54:01"Slurp! Hmm, indeed. A very gobblesome hat.
0:54:01 > 0:54:05"I should like to eat it for my dinner," drooled the crocodile,
0:54:05 > 0:54:07ignoring the raging pink piglet.
0:54:07 > 0:54:10"But if you are really brave enough to get your hat back,
0:54:10 > 0:54:14"you must come inside my hungry, hungry jaws to get it."
0:54:14 > 0:54:18Hamilton looked at the crocodile's hungry, hungry jaws
0:54:18 > 0:54:19and his hungry, hungry smile.
0:54:19 > 0:54:24It is not easy for little pigs to jump inside a crocodile's mouth,
0:54:24 > 0:54:26but Hamilton did want his hat back.
0:54:26 > 0:54:29And so he decided to do it.
0:54:29 > 0:54:31It was terrifying.
0:54:31 > 0:54:33The crocodile kept licking his lips
0:54:33 > 0:54:36because he said Hamilton was so tasty.
0:54:36 > 0:54:41But Hamilton was brave, and so, at last, he got his hat.
0:54:41 > 0:54:45"Hoorah!" he shouted, as he leapt off the crocodile's tongue
0:54:45 > 0:54:47and ran off as fast as he could.
0:54:47 > 0:54:52"I am a very determined and brave pig and I have my hat!"
0:54:52 > 0:54:56The next day, Hamilton the Pig was out and about
0:54:56 > 0:54:58when he met a band of monkeys.
0:54:58 > 0:55:00Hamilton was wearing a round,
0:55:00 > 0:55:03bouncy, let's-play-catch sort of hat.
0:55:03 > 0:55:06"My hat makes me almost as playful as you,"
0:55:06 > 0:55:08he said to the band of monkeys.
0:55:08 > 0:55:11The monkeys laughed. With a quick flick of the tail,
0:55:11 > 0:55:14one monkey swiped the hat and threw it to his friend.
0:55:14 > 0:55:19"Hmm, indeed, a very fun hat. We should play with it every day,"
0:55:19 > 0:55:24cried the monkeys, ignoring the angry piggy in the middle.
0:55:24 > 0:55:29"But if you are patient, you can have it back when we are finished."
0:55:29 > 0:55:34Hamilton watched the monkeys throw his hat high, high into the air.
0:55:34 > 0:55:37It is not easy for little pigs to be patient,
0:55:37 > 0:55:40but Hamilton did want his hat back.
0:55:40 > 0:55:42And so he decided to do it.
0:55:43 > 0:55:47Oh, poor Hamilton. It was boring.
0:55:47 > 0:55:49The monkeys played for hours
0:55:49 > 0:55:53because they said it was such fun teasing Hamilton.
0:55:53 > 0:55:59But Hamilton was patient, and so, in the end, he got his hat.
0:55:59 > 0:56:01"At last," he sighed,
0:56:01 > 0:56:05as he said goodbye to the monkeys and plodded off.
0:56:05 > 0:56:10"I am a very determined, brave and patient pig, and I have my hat."
0:56:11 > 0:56:13The next day, it was cold.
0:56:13 > 0:56:19Hamilton the Pig was out and about as usual when he spied a tiny mouse.
0:56:19 > 0:56:24Hamilton was wearing a soft, teeny, let's-cuddle-up sort of hat.
0:56:24 > 0:56:28"My hat makes me almost as small as you," he said to the mouse.
0:56:28 > 0:56:32The tiny mouse sniffed and looked up at the hat.
0:56:32 > 0:56:35A slow, miserable tear rolled down her cheek.
0:56:35 > 0:56:38"What's the matter?" asked Hamilton.
0:56:38 > 0:56:41"I'm cold and I have no house to live in.
0:56:41 > 0:56:43"Your hat looks so cuddly and warm.
0:56:43 > 0:56:47"It would be just the thing to curl up inside on a winter's night."
0:56:47 > 0:56:51"You want to sleep in my hat?!" squealed Hamilton, horrified.
0:56:51 > 0:56:53"Oh, no," said the tiny mouse.
0:56:53 > 0:56:58"I could not possibly ask you to be so kind as to give me your hat."
0:56:58 > 0:57:02Hamilton looked at the mouse as she limped unhappily away.
0:57:02 > 0:57:07It is not easy for little pigs to be generous, and Hamilton did not
0:57:07 > 0:57:11want to give his hat away, but he decided to do it.
0:57:11 > 0:57:12It was nice.
0:57:12 > 0:57:16The mouse kept shaking his hand and saying thank you
0:57:16 > 0:57:19because she said Hamilton was so kind.
0:57:19 > 0:57:21"Ah!" said Hamilton.
0:57:21 > 0:57:25"I am a very determined, brave, patient and kind pig,
0:57:25 > 0:57:27"but I have no hat."
0:57:27 > 0:57:32So, happy, hungry and hatless, Hamilton the Pig arrived home
0:57:32 > 0:57:37and set to work on a new and very special hat.
0:57:38 > 0:57:42And that story was called Hamilton's Hats.
0:57:42 > 0:57:46I really liked Hamilton's bouncy, let's-play-catch sort of hat.
0:57:46 > 0:57:50Which was your favourite? Hmm? Good choice.
0:57:50 > 0:57:52Tonight, I would like to dream of hats.
0:57:52 > 0:57:57Magic hats, hats that can dance, hats maybe made of gingerbread.
0:57:57 > 0:58:02But now it's time for you to journey into the world of dreams.
0:58:02 > 0:58:06So settle down, snuggle up and sleep tight. Night-night.
