0:00:06 > 0:00:08Hello, I'm Damian.

0:00:08 > 0:00:11It's bedtime for a little tiger called Piper

0:00:11 > 0:00:14in tonight's bedtime story.

0:00:14 > 0:00:15Say hello, Piper.

0:00:15 > 0:00:18HE GROWLS SOFTLY

0:00:18 > 0:00:21But he's not very happy about spending the whole night

0:00:21 > 0:00:23in his own bed.

0:00:23 > 0:00:25Let me tell you all about him.

0:00:25 > 0:00:30This story is called Too Small For My Big Bed

0:00:30 > 0:00:33and it's by Amber Stewart and Layn Marlow.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38As Mummy kissed Piper goodnight,

0:00:38 > 0:00:41she said to him, "If you wake in the night,

0:00:41 > 0:00:43"don't come straight into Mummy's bed.

0:00:43 > 0:00:46"Try counting to more than ten.

0:00:46 > 0:00:50"Maybe that will help you fall back to sleep in your own bed."

0:00:50 > 0:00:53When Piper did wake in the night, he tried counting.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56"One...

0:00:56 > 0:00:57"Two...

0:00:57 > 0:00:59"Three...

0:00:59 > 0:01:00"Four...

0:01:00 > 0:01:01"Five...

0:01:01 > 0:01:03"Six...

0:01:03 > 0:01:04"Seven...

0:01:04 > 0:01:06"Eight...

0:01:06 > 0:01:07"Nine...

0:01:07 > 0:01:09"Ten!

0:01:10 > 0:01:12"Ten and a bit.

0:01:13 > 0:01:15"Ten and a bit more."

0:01:16 > 0:01:18"Ten and a big bit more..."

0:01:20 > 0:01:22But he was still awake.

0:01:22 > 0:01:25And a wide-awake Piper didn't want to be alone

0:01:25 > 0:01:28in the deep, dark night.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31"I counted to more than ten," he whispered,

0:01:31 > 0:01:33as he snuggled in beside his mummy.

0:01:33 > 0:01:37"Oh, what a clever little cub you are," she sighed.

0:01:37 > 0:01:41But Piper was already fast asleep,

0:01:41 > 0:01:44spread out like a small star.

0:01:46 > 0:01:51In the morning, Mummy took Piper to the Golden Grasslands.

0:01:51 > 0:01:56Piper pounced and jumped until he needed to stop for a rest.

0:01:56 > 0:01:59"Today I jumped higher than ever," he said happily.

0:01:59 > 0:02:03"I know," smiled Mummy, "I've been watching...

0:02:03 > 0:02:08"You jumped so high and you did it ALL BY YOURSELF."

0:02:09 > 0:02:12"All by myself!" laughed Piper.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14But that night,

0:02:14 > 0:02:18Piper still didn't want to be all by himself in the deep dark.

0:02:19 > 0:02:24The next day, Mummy took Piper climbing along Red Rock Ridge.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27Piper bounded easily to the top.

0:02:27 > 0:02:31"Mummy!" he called, "Look at me!

0:02:31 > 0:02:33"I'm going to be the king of the castle!"

0:02:33 > 0:02:37"I know," smiled Mummy. "I'm watching...

0:02:37 > 0:02:40"You've climbed so far and you've done it

0:02:40 > 0:02:43"ALL BY YOURSELF."

0:02:43 > 0:02:46"All by myself!" laughed Piper.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51"Tonight, Piper," said Mummy,

0:02:51 > 0:02:53as they padded homewards,

0:02:53 > 0:02:55"if you wake in the night,

0:02:55 > 0:02:58"try thinking about how high you jumped

0:02:58 > 0:03:03"and how far you climbed ALL BY YOURSELF.

0:03:03 > 0:03:08"Then perhaps staying in your own bed ALL BY YOURSELF

0:03:08 > 0:03:09"will seem easier."

0:03:09 > 0:03:12Piper didn't look sure.

0:03:12 > 0:03:16"In the deep, dark night," he whispered,

0:03:16 > 0:03:19"my bed feels too big."

0:03:19 > 0:03:23"It's not as big as my bed," said Mummy gently.

0:03:23 > 0:03:27"But when I climb into your bed, Mummy," said Piper,

0:03:27 > 0:03:30"you are near to take away the bigness."

0:03:30 > 0:03:34Mummy and Piper stopped at their favourite pond.

0:03:35 > 0:03:38While they drank, Mummy asked,

0:03:38 > 0:03:42"How do you know I am near now, my clever little cub?"

0:03:43 > 0:03:48"I can see your face wobbling in the water," said Piper.

0:03:48 > 0:03:51"If you keep your eyes closed

0:03:51 > 0:03:57"and I am quieter than the smallest cricket," asked Mummy,

0:03:57 > 0:04:00"then how do you know I am near?"

0:04:00 > 0:04:02Piper thought and waited...

0:04:02 > 0:04:04HE SNIFFS

0:04:04 > 0:04:07..and sniffed the air.

0:04:07 > 0:04:12"I can just feel you, Mummy," he smiled, "I can feel you are near."

0:04:13 > 0:04:20"I'll NEVER be far away," she said, as they lay in the evening sun.

0:04:20 > 0:04:22"Mummies never are."

0:04:24 > 0:04:29When Piper woke that night, he looked into the deep dark

0:04:29 > 0:04:32and though he couldn't see his mummy,

0:04:32 > 0:04:37he could feel the cool night air spreading her love around him.

0:04:37 > 0:04:40And he KNEW that she was near.

0:04:42 > 0:04:45So Piper snuggled down further in his own bed

0:04:45 > 0:04:48and started counting to more than ten.

0:04:48 > 0:04:52But he only managed to count as far as one...

0:04:53 > 0:04:55..two...

0:04:55 > 0:04:57three...

0:04:57 > 0:04:59HE SNORES

0:05:00 > 0:05:02..before he was fast asleep.
