0:48:22 > 0:48:26Tonight's story is about Billy and all he wanted

0:48:26 > 0:48:28for his birthday was a bucket.

0:48:36 > 0:48:40"Can I have a bucket for my birthday?" asked Billy.

0:48:40 > 0:48:43Billy's dad looked up from his newspaper.

0:48:43 > 0:48:47"A bucket? You don't want a bucket for your birthday.

0:48:47 > 0:48:50"Nobody has buckets for their birthday!"

0:48:50 > 0:48:52"Why don't they?" asked Billy.

0:48:52 > 0:48:54"Because, Billy,"

0:48:54 > 0:48:58explained his mum, "buckets are, well, buckets are far too buckety

0:48:58 > 0:49:01"to be a birthday present."

0:49:01 > 0:49:03But Billy wouldn't be persuaded.

0:49:03 > 0:49:06"PLEASE can I have a bucket?" he asked.

0:49:06 > 0:49:09"Have a bike," said his dad.

0:49:09 > 0:49:11"Or some new trainers," said his mum.

0:49:11 > 0:49:13"Or a computer game!"

0:49:13 > 0:49:16"I want a bucket," said Billy.

0:49:16 > 0:49:19"All right," sighed Billy's dad,

0:49:19 > 0:49:22"you can have a bucket for your birthday."

0:49:22 > 0:49:25"Yippee!" shouted Billy.

0:49:25 > 0:49:30The next day Billy and his mum and dad went to Buckets 'R' Us.

0:49:30 > 0:49:34There were buckets of buckets at Buckets 'R' Us.

0:49:34 > 0:49:39Rubber buckets, plastic buckets, metal buckets, garden buckets,

0:49:39 > 0:49:42farm buckets, builder's buckets, seaside buckets

0:49:42 > 0:49:45and even football buckets.

0:49:45 > 0:49:51Billy's mum and dad followed Billy up and down every single aisle.

0:49:51 > 0:49:54"What sort of bucket are you looking for?" they asked.

0:49:54 > 0:49:58"I dunno," said Billy, "but I'll know it when I see it."

0:49:58 > 0:50:03Billy looked long and hard at every single bucket on every single shelf.

0:50:03 > 0:50:07"There it is!" he shouted excitedly. "That's the one I want,

0:50:07 > 0:50:13"right up there! 19 shelves up, 78 along from the left."

0:50:13 > 0:50:16Billy's mum and dad got someone to help them.

0:50:16 > 0:50:20"They all look the same to me," said the shop assistant.

0:50:20 > 0:50:24"No, that one's special." said Billy excitedly.

0:50:24 > 0:50:27When Billy got home, he ran straight into the kitchen

0:50:27 > 0:50:31and filled his bucket with water.

0:50:31 > 0:50:36"Wow," said Billy, peering inside his bucket, "I can see a rock pool

0:50:36 > 0:50:40"with crabs and seaweed and little shrimpy things."

0:50:40 > 0:50:44"Of course you can, Billy," smiled his dad.

0:50:44 > 0:50:48"Wowee!" said Billy, "I just saw a shark!"

0:50:48 > 0:50:51"Well, of course you did, Billy," laughed his mum.

0:50:51 > 0:50:53"Guess what I've seen now," said Billy,

0:50:53 > 0:50:56sitting down for his birthday tea.

0:50:56 > 0:50:58"I've seen a stingray and some clownfish

0:50:58 > 0:51:02"and a huge shoal of barracuda, and I think I've seen a mermaid

0:51:02 > 0:51:04"but it might've been a big herring."

0:51:04 > 0:51:07"Of course you have, Billy," laughed his dad.

0:51:07 > 0:51:11Billy carried his bucket to the lounge.

0:51:11 > 0:51:15"What's in your bucket at the moment, Billy?" chuckled his dad.

0:51:15 > 0:51:18"Two submarines and a pilchard," said Billy.

0:51:18 > 0:51:23"What's in your bucket now, Billy?" giggled his mum.

0:51:23 > 0:51:27"Seven sea lions and a walrus," said Billy.

0:51:27 > 0:51:31"Of course there are, Billy," laughed his mum and dad.

0:51:31 > 0:51:35Billy was still staring into his bucket at bedtime.

0:51:35 > 0:51:39Billy's dad nudged his wife and winked.

0:51:39 > 0:51:41"Billy, is it all right

0:51:41 > 0:51:45"if we borrow your bucket to mix up some wallpaper paste tomorrow?"

0:51:45 > 0:51:51Billy looked up from his bucket and frowned. "No, it isn't.

0:51:51 > 0:51:54"There are dolphins in my bucket at the moment.

0:51:54 > 0:51:56"You must never borrow my bucket."

0:51:56 > 0:52:01Billy's mum waited a few moments and winked at her husband.

0:52:01 > 0:52:05"Billy, is it all right if we borrow your bucket to water

0:52:05 > 0:52:07"the roses tomorrow?"

0:52:07 > 0:52:11Billy looked up from his bucket and shook his head.

0:52:11 > 0:52:15"There are two scuba divers in my bucket at the moment.

0:52:15 > 0:52:19"You must never, ever borrow my bucket."

0:52:19 > 0:52:24Billy's dad chuckled to himself and waited a few more moments.

0:52:24 > 0:52:27"Billy, is it all right

0:52:27 > 0:52:31"if I borrow your bucket to clean the car tomorrow?"

0:52:31 > 0:52:36Billy looked up from his bucket and sighed.

0:52:36 > 0:52:39"No, it isn't all right.

0:52:39 > 0:52:43"There's a coral reef in my bucket at the moment.

0:52:43 > 0:52:48"You must never, ever, ever borrow my bucket."

0:52:50 > 0:52:55"What an imagination," laughed Billy's mum and dad. "Time for bed."

0:52:57 > 0:53:00Billy put his bucket away and went upstairs.

0:53:00 > 0:53:03"Thanks for a lovely birthday," he said,

0:53:03 > 0:53:06"and the best present in the world."

0:53:06 > 0:53:10When Billy woke up the next morning, he got dressed quickly

0:53:10 > 0:53:13and ran downstairs to play with his bucket.

0:53:13 > 0:53:15- BILLY GASPS - But it wasn't there.

0:53:16 > 0:53:22Oh, dear. Billy's dad had used the bucket to clean his lovely car

0:53:22 > 0:53:26and there just happened to be quite a big whale in it.

0:53:26 > 0:53:28WHALE SINGS

0:53:28 > 0:53:32"I told you not to borrow my bucket," said Billy.

0:53:32 > 0:53:36It took Billy's mum and dad six hours, three fire engines,

0:53:36 > 0:53:40four cranes and a shoehorn to get the whale back into the bucket.

0:53:40 > 0:53:43They never borrowed Billy's bucket again.

0:53:48 > 0:53:52That was a funny story, wasn't it? Billy was right,

0:53:52 > 0:53:56a bucket can be a very special birthday present.

0:53:56 > 0:53:58But that's enough adventure for today.
