0:28:02 > 0:28:05CBeebies Bedtime Story.
0:28:07 > 0:28:09Almost finished, Lion.
0:28:09 > 0:28:11Do you like my hair?
0:28:11 > 0:28:14Yours is looking fabulous.
0:28:14 > 0:28:15Hello, I'm Ellie.
0:28:15 > 0:28:19I've just been giving Lion's mane a good brush before bed.
0:28:19 > 0:28:22He likes it to look nice and silky.
0:28:22 > 0:28:25But I know a little boy who doesn't like having his hair done.
0:28:25 > 0:28:29In fact, he won't let anyone do anything to it at all.
0:28:29 > 0:28:33Would you like to meet him? He's in tonight's bedtime story.
0:28:33 > 0:28:37It's called Hugh Shampoo, and it's by Karen George.
0:28:37 > 0:28:40If you think having your hair washed is horrid,
0:28:40 > 0:28:44then you should meet Hugh Shampoo.
0:28:44 > 0:28:49His hair was terribly tangled and very, very grubby.
0:28:49 > 0:28:50But Hugh didn't care.
0:28:50 > 0:28:54He would not have his hair washed or brushed or cut or combed
0:28:54 > 0:28:57or in any way fussed with.
0:28:57 > 0:29:00Whenever Hugh's mum and dad tried to wash, brush,
0:29:00 > 0:29:04cut or comb his hair, they failed.
0:29:04 > 0:29:08This upset Mr and Mrs Shampoo.
0:29:08 > 0:29:11After all, they were both hairdressers
0:29:11 > 0:29:14and the proud owners of Salon Shampoo,
0:29:14 > 0:29:17the place to come for tiny trims or fabulous curls.
0:29:17 > 0:29:22Teacups tinkled, hairdryers hummed and friends chatted
0:29:22 > 0:29:27while Mr and Mrs Shampoo's scissors went snippety-snip all day long.
0:29:27 > 0:29:33One tea-time, Mrs Shampoo showed Hugh an extremely exciting letter.
0:29:33 > 0:29:35"Dear Team Shampoo," she read,
0:29:35 > 0:29:38"You're in the final of the Scissor Showdown."
0:29:38 > 0:29:42"We made it!" cheered Mr Shampoo.
0:29:42 > 0:29:46"Now we just need someone to model our wonderful winning styles."
0:29:46 > 0:29:49Hugh longed to be part of Team Shampoo,
0:29:49 > 0:29:53but not if it meant having his hair washed.
0:29:53 > 0:29:56So whose hair could the Shampoos use?
0:29:56 > 0:29:59Of course - Mrs Tree from next door!
0:29:59 > 0:30:05Just imagine all the ways they could tease and twirl Mrs Tree's hair!
0:30:05 > 0:30:07The Shampoos could not lose.
0:30:07 > 0:30:11The next day, Mr and Mrs Shampoo collected bottles and brushes,
0:30:11 > 0:30:14combs and curlers, teacups and towels,
0:30:14 > 0:30:17and everything they needed for the Scissor Showdown.
0:30:17 > 0:30:21"Mrs Tree, we'll meet you in the town hall at three," they said,
0:30:21 > 0:30:24and off they went, leaving grubby-haired Hugh
0:30:24 > 0:30:26to help Mr Tree trim the hedge.
0:30:26 > 0:30:30But later, just as Mrs Tree was about to leave
0:30:30 > 0:30:33for the Scissor Showdown, there was a scream!
0:30:33 > 0:30:35MRS TREE SCREAMS
0:30:35 > 0:30:37"Mr Tree!" she shrieked.
0:30:37 > 0:30:43"My hair, it's gone! All chopped off, what a disaster!
0:30:43 > 0:30:48"Run, Hugh, tell Team Shampoo all is lost."
0:30:48 > 0:30:52So Hugh ran. He blasted past rosebushes,
0:30:52 > 0:30:56he parted long grass like a comb through clean hair.
0:30:56 > 0:30:59His legs flew as fast as snippety-snipping scissors.
0:30:59 > 0:31:03He ran full-tilt, as if blown by a hundred hairdryers.
0:31:03 > 0:31:07But when Hugh reached the town hall, he thought he was too late.
0:31:07 > 0:31:10The judge began to speak.
0:31:10 > 0:31:15"And the winner of the Scissor Showdown is...
0:31:15 > 0:31:18"Team Shampoo, for their spectacular,
0:31:18 > 0:31:21"show-stopping styling of Hugh Shampoo."
0:31:23 > 0:31:27That night, Hugh went to bed with the winner's cup.
0:31:27 > 0:31:31But he also went to bed with the roses, the grass,
0:31:31 > 0:31:35the butterflies, the kite strings, the itchy leaves,
0:31:35 > 0:31:40the sticky bubble gum, the wriggling worms and the slimy snails.
0:31:40 > 0:31:46"Yuck!" cried Hugh. "I need...shampoo!"
0:31:46 > 0:31:49For his mum and dad, it was a dream come true.
0:31:49 > 0:31:55They washed, they brushed, they combed, they snipped,
0:31:55 > 0:32:00and they hugged their very own Hugh Shampoo.
0:32:00 > 0:32:02That story was called Hugh Shampoo.
0:32:02 > 0:32:06Who would have ever thought that Hugh's tangly, grubby hair
0:32:06 > 0:32:08could win the Scissor Showdown?
0:32:08 > 0:32:12Now it's time for you to get washed and ready for bed.
0:32:12 > 0:32:13I hope you sleep well.
0:32:13 > 0:32:16I'll see you again soon for another bedtime story.
0:32:16 > 0:32:18Night-night.
