0:00:06 > 0:00:08Hello, I'm Lisa.

0:00:08 > 0:00:11I've just got a present from a very good friend

0:00:11 > 0:00:13and I can't wait to open it.

0:00:13 > 0:00:16I love receiving presents, don't you?

0:00:17 > 0:00:23Tonight's bedtime story is all about one of the best presents ever.

0:00:23 > 0:00:25Would you like to hear it?

0:00:25 > 0:00:30Wonderful. This story is called The Best Gift Of All,

0:00:30 > 0:00:33by Jonathan Emmett and Vanessa Cabban.

0:00:35 > 0:00:36"Hop-diggity-drat,"

0:00:36 > 0:00:41said Mole, poking his head out of the ground one morning.

0:00:41 > 0:00:43"It's raining again."

0:00:43 > 0:00:46Mole did not like going out in the rain.

0:00:46 > 0:00:51"The only place to be in this weather is underground," he decided.

0:00:51 > 0:00:54But it had been raining ALL week

0:00:54 > 0:00:57and Mole was missing his friends,

0:00:57 > 0:00:59especially Rabbit.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01Mole hadn't seen her for days

0:01:01 > 0:01:04and he was beginning to worry about her.

0:01:04 > 0:01:07"Dear Rabbit," sighed Mole.

0:01:07 > 0:01:11"It would be SO nice to see her."

0:01:11 > 0:01:14And, then, Mole had a wonderful idea.

0:01:14 > 0:01:19"I don't need to go out in the rain to see Rabbit," Mole told himself.

0:01:19 > 0:01:22"I can visit her by tunnel."

0:01:22 > 0:01:24And he began to dig.

0:01:24 > 0:01:29Squirrel had been collecting nuts beneath the shelter of the trees

0:01:29 > 0:01:31and was about to bury them.

0:01:31 > 0:01:35Squirrel dropped the nuts into a hole and then jumped back

0:01:35 > 0:01:39in surprise as, "Ouch, ouch, ouch!"

0:01:39 > 0:01:41cried a voice from below.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43Squirrel peered down the hole

0:01:43 > 0:01:47and was astonished to see Mole peering back up at her.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50"Mole," said Squirrel.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53"What are you doing at the bottom of my hole?"

0:01:53 > 0:01:56"Squirrel!" laughed Mole.

0:01:56 > 0:01:59"What are you doing at the top of my tunnel?"

0:01:59 > 0:02:03Mole explained that he was going to see Rabbit.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06"What a smashing idea," said Squirrel.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08"Can I come too?"

0:02:08 > 0:02:12Hedgehog had found a heap of dry leaves and had just

0:02:12 > 0:02:17settled down for a nap when he felt something scrape his backside.

0:02:17 > 0:02:22"What the weevil?" cried Hedgehog, jumping up again.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24"Sorry, Hedgehog," said Mole,

0:02:24 > 0:02:26appearing out of the ground.

0:02:26 > 0:02:30"I came up to find a way around these roots."

0:02:30 > 0:02:32"We're off to see Rabbit," cried Squirrel,

0:02:32 > 0:02:35popping her head out of the tunnel.

0:02:35 > 0:02:39"We haven't seen her for days," said Mole.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42"What a splendid idea," said Hedgehog.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45"Can I come too?"

0:02:45 > 0:02:47It was dark in the tunnel

0:02:47 > 0:02:52and neither Squirrel nor Hedgehog was used to being underground.

0:02:52 > 0:02:54All they could do was follow Mole.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58"How can you tell where we are?" asked Squirrel.

0:02:58 > 0:03:02"Are you sure we're going the right way?" asked Hedgehog.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05"Don't worry," Mole assured them,

0:03:05 > 0:03:07"if there's one thing I'm good at,

0:03:07 > 0:03:10"it's digging tunnels."

0:03:10 > 0:03:14Rabbit lay in her burrow feeling miserable.

0:03:14 > 0:03:16She had a terrible cold

0:03:16 > 0:03:19and was staying inside until the weather got better.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22But it had been raining all week

0:03:22 > 0:03:24and she was missing her friends,

0:03:24 > 0:03:25especially Mole.

0:03:25 > 0:03:29She was worried they might have forgotten her.

0:03:29 > 0:03:33"It's so lonely, stuck here on my own," she thought.

0:03:33 > 0:03:38"It would be lovely if someone dropped in to see me."

0:03:38 > 0:03:41Just then, there was a scrabbling sound

0:03:41 > 0:03:44and a lump of earth fell from the burrow ceiling.

0:03:44 > 0:03:48And before Rabbit could take a closer look, there was

0:03:48 > 0:03:51a shower of soil and Mole, Hedgehog

0:03:51 > 0:03:56and Squirrel dropped one after the other onto the burrow floor.

0:03:56 > 0:04:00"Mole! Squirrel! Hedgehog!"

0:04:00 > 0:04:02smiled Rabbit.

0:04:02 > 0:04:05"I was just thinking how much I missed you."

0:04:07 > 0:04:12When Mole, Squirrel and Hedgehog realised that Rabbit was poorly,

0:04:12 > 0:04:15they couldn't stop fussing over her.

0:04:15 > 0:04:17Squirrel went back down the tunnel

0:04:17 > 0:04:20and brought Rabbit some of her nuts to eat,

0:04:20 > 0:04:25and Hedgehog fetched some of his dry leaves to make a fresh bed.

0:04:25 > 0:04:32And it wasn't long before Rabbit was feeling better and chatting happily.

0:04:32 > 0:04:35Only Mole looked unhappy.

0:04:35 > 0:04:38"What's wrong, Mole?" Rabbit asked.

0:04:38 > 0:04:42"Everyone has brought something to make you feel better,"

0:04:42 > 0:04:48explained Mole, "except me, and I've missed you most."

0:04:48 > 0:04:51"Oh, Mole," said Squirrel.

0:04:51 > 0:04:53"You shouldn't feel bad.

0:04:53 > 0:04:58"After all, it was your idea to visit Rabbit."

0:04:58 > 0:05:02"And we would never have got here," agreed Hedgehog,

0:05:02 > 0:05:04"without your tunnel."

0:05:04 > 0:05:11"And you did bring me something, or someone," said Rabbit.

0:05:11 > 0:05:15Mole grinned when he realised what Rabbit meant.

0:05:15 > 0:05:18"I brought you your friends," he said.

0:05:18 > 0:05:20"Yes," said Rabbit,

0:05:20 > 0:05:22"you brought me my friends

0:05:22 > 0:05:26"and that's the best gift of all."

0:05:27 > 0:05:30That story was called The Best Gift Of All.

0:05:30 > 0:05:32Did you enjoy it?

0:05:32 > 0:05:36It's getting late so I'm going to open my present in the morning,

0:05:36 > 0:05:41but I really hope my gift is as good as Rabbit's.

0:05:41 > 0:05:45Now, it's time for me to snuggle down and dream of moles,

0:05:45 > 0:05:48squirrels and other furry friends.

0:05:48 > 0:05:50Why don't you do the same?

0:05:50 > 0:05:51Night-night.
