0:23:02 > 0:23:05CBeebies Bedtime Story.
0:23:06 > 0:23:10Hello. My name is Edith.
0:23:10 > 0:23:12Now, I hope you're sitting comfortably
0:23:12 > 0:23:15because it's time for a bedtime story.
0:23:15 > 0:23:19Tonight's story is about a little horse with a big dream.
0:23:19 > 0:23:22Would you like to hear it?
0:23:22 > 0:23:23Good.
0:23:23 > 0:23:26It's called I Wish I'd Been Born A Unicorn,
0:23:26 > 0:23:29and it's by Rachel Lyon and Andrea Ringli.
0:23:31 > 0:23:33Mucky was a playful horse
0:23:33 > 0:23:36who lived up to his name.
0:23:36 > 0:23:38He didn't bathe or brush his teeth
0:23:38 > 0:23:41and never combed his mane.
0:23:41 > 0:23:43No other horse would share his field
0:23:43 > 0:23:46because he'd grown so smelly
0:23:46 > 0:23:50and flies and fleas would bite his knees
0:23:50 > 0:23:51and picnic on his belly.
0:23:53 > 0:23:56"I wish I had some friends," he sighed,
0:23:56 > 0:23:59whilst chewing on some hay.
0:23:59 > 0:24:01"But no-one seems to like me much.
0:24:01 > 0:24:04"I'm never asked to play.
0:24:04 > 0:24:09"If I'd been born a unicorn, I bet they'd like me more.
0:24:09 > 0:24:13"But I'm just silly Mucky, who likes rolling on the floor."
0:24:15 > 0:24:21"Your true friends," said clever Owl, as Mucky ate his meal,
0:24:21 > 0:24:26"Aren't bothered how you look or smell, but only how you feel.
0:24:27 > 0:24:34"However, if it's really what you want, I'll make your wish come true.
0:24:34 > 0:24:39"I'll help you be a unicorn." And up and off he flew.
0:24:39 > 0:24:46Now, unicorns are white, of course, and Mucky's brown and plain.
0:24:46 > 0:24:51So first, Owl asked the cows for milk to paint his coat and mane.
0:24:51 > 0:24:57"But milk is runny," mooed the cows. "It simply will not stick.
0:24:57 > 0:25:01"Perhaps if Frog will swim around, he'll churn it nice and thick."
0:25:03 > 0:25:10Owl headed next towards the beach to find a pointy shell,
0:25:10 > 0:25:16which, once tied tight on Mucky's head, would work so very well.
0:25:17 > 0:25:23Owl took the cream to Mucky's field and worked the whole night through.
0:25:23 > 0:25:28He turned him white from head to hoof to make his dream come true.
0:25:30 > 0:25:35One final touch between his ears, he tied the seashell horn.
0:25:35 > 0:25:41"Come look," Owl cried to all around. "And see the unicorn."
0:25:41 > 0:25:44Up hurried the frog, the cows came too.
0:25:44 > 0:25:47They waited in the field.
0:25:47 > 0:25:53The sun came up and in its light, new Mucky was revealed.
0:25:53 > 0:25:58"A unicorn? Where?" Mucky asked. "You surely don't mean me?!"
0:25:58 > 0:26:01"Oh, yes!" Frog and the cows replied.
0:26:01 > 0:26:04"Look in the pond. You'll see."
0:26:05 > 0:26:11"I am! I am a unicorn," he sang and skipped with glee.
0:26:11 > 0:26:13"I'll soon have friends, and best of all,
0:26:13 > 0:26:16"They'll want to play with me."
0:26:16 > 0:26:22But suddenly, a cloud appeared. It slid across the sun.
0:26:22 > 0:26:28"It mustn't rain," thought little Owl. "Poor Mucky's coat will run."
0:26:29 > 0:26:33The sky grew dark, the wind blew wild,
0:26:33 > 0:26:36the raindrops tumbled down.
0:26:36 > 0:26:40And right before their very eyes,
0:26:40 > 0:26:42the unicorn turned brown.
0:26:44 > 0:26:48"Oh, deary me," the milk-cows cried.
0:26:48 > 0:26:51"Poor Mucky seemed so glad.
0:26:51 > 0:26:56"But now the milk's been washed away, he looks so very sad.
0:26:56 > 0:27:00"Dear Mucky, please don't cry," they begged.
0:27:00 > 0:27:02"We'll make more cream today.
0:27:02 > 0:27:05"And once you're painted white again,
0:27:05 > 0:27:08"we're sure you'll get to play."
0:27:08 > 0:27:11But as they looked on, feeling sad,
0:27:11 > 0:27:14they saw a smile appear.
0:27:14 > 0:27:18It grew on Mucky's dirty face
0:27:18 > 0:27:21from filthy ear to ear.
0:27:21 > 0:27:27"Who needs to be a unicorn? Who needs a wish come true?
0:27:27 > 0:27:32"I'll never feel alone again with friends as good as you.
0:27:32 > 0:27:37"It's like Owl promised yesterday. You know your friends are real,
0:27:37 > 0:27:43"when all they truly care about is how you really feel.
0:27:44 > 0:27:50"I'm glad I'm not a unicorn," he added with a neigh.
0:27:50 > 0:27:52"I now have all the friends I need,
0:27:52 > 0:27:55"so let's all go and play."
0:27:58 > 0:28:02That story was called I Wish I'd Been Born A Unicorn.
0:28:02 > 0:28:04I hope you enjoyed it.
0:28:04 > 0:28:09Owl helped Mucky to realise that he already had good friends.
0:28:09 > 0:28:13Now it's time for you to find your favourite toy
0:28:13 > 0:28:15to cuddle up to in bed.
0:28:15 > 0:28:17Sleep tight and have sweet dreams.
0:28:17 > 0:28:19I'll see you again soon.
