0:00:18 > 0:00:22Well, it's time for me to tell you a story about a friend of mine
0:00:22 > 0:00:24who also loves picture books.
0:00:24 > 0:00:26His name is Aye-Aye.
0:00:26 > 0:00:29So, if you're sitting comfortably, then I'll begin.
0:00:31 > 0:00:36Tonight's story is called This Book Belongs To Aye-Aye.
0:00:36 > 0:00:37And it's by Richard Byrne.
0:00:39 > 0:00:42Aye-Aye loved picture books.
0:00:42 > 0:00:46He loved the pictures, he loved the stories,
0:00:46 > 0:00:49he loved them so much that the thing he wanted most,
0:00:49 > 0:00:55in the whole wide world, was to be in a picture book.
0:00:55 > 0:00:58But two rabbits in Aye-Aye's new class at Miss Deer's Academy
0:00:58 > 0:01:01for Aspiring Picture Book Animals
0:01:01 > 0:01:05thought he was far too funny looking for that.
0:01:05 > 0:01:08The rabbit twins pointed and sniggered.
0:01:09 > 0:01:13"Whoever heard of an aye-aye being in a picture book?" they said.
0:01:13 > 0:01:17"You're just not cute or fluffy enough!"
0:01:18 > 0:01:24When Miss Deer told the class about a new competition, everyone gasped.
0:01:24 > 0:01:27"The most helpful animal this week,"
0:01:27 > 0:01:31she said, "will win a very special prize."
0:01:31 > 0:01:34Aye-Aye wondered if the prize could be the thing
0:01:34 > 0:01:38he wanted most in the whole wide world.
0:01:38 > 0:01:43At home time, Aye-Aye helped Squirrel to collect up the books.
0:01:43 > 0:01:47They were just passing Miss Deer's chalkboard when...
0:01:47 > 0:01:50the rabbit twins pushed past, singing,
0:01:50 > 0:01:53"We're going to win! We're going to win!"
0:01:53 > 0:01:57"Just ignore them," said Squirrel, kindly.
0:01:57 > 0:02:02"Tomorrow we have art and craft, so don't forget your apron."
0:02:03 > 0:02:06In the morning, Aye-Aye and Squirrel noticed
0:02:06 > 0:02:09that the competition had mysteriously changed.
0:02:09 > 0:02:15"The most creative animal in the class will win a special prize."
0:02:15 > 0:02:18Miss Deer clapped her hands.
0:02:18 > 0:02:21"We're going to do some painting," she said,
0:02:21 > 0:02:23"so let's put on our aprons."
0:02:23 > 0:02:29But it wasn't easy. Squirrel and Duck needed some help.
0:02:29 > 0:02:34And by the time they were ready to paint, all the paints had gone.
0:02:34 > 0:02:37The rabbit twins had taken them all.
0:02:37 > 0:02:43And all the brushes, pencils, paper, card and glue.
0:02:43 > 0:02:48The only thing they hadn't taken was a pile of old newspapers.
0:02:50 > 0:02:52Aye-Aye had an idea.
0:02:52 > 0:02:56He picked up a newspaper and started to fold it.
0:02:56 > 0:02:59The others gathered around to watch.
0:02:59 > 0:03:03"Goodness, how creative!" said Miss Deer.
0:03:03 > 0:03:08"And one for me too. That's very kind, Aye-Aye."
0:03:08 > 0:03:11The rabbit twins looked grumpy.
0:03:13 > 0:03:17After school, Frog hopped alongside Aye-Aye.
0:03:17 > 0:03:20"We've got PE tomorrow," he explained,
0:03:20 > 0:03:23"so don't forget your water bottle!"
0:03:23 > 0:03:26In the morning, Aye-Aye, Squirrel
0:03:26 > 0:03:32and Frog noticed that the competition had mysteriously changed again.
0:03:32 > 0:03:38"The sportiest animal in the class will win a special prize."
0:03:39 > 0:03:42Miss Deer blew her whistle.
0:03:42 > 0:03:46"We're going into the hall for PE," she said,
0:03:46 > 0:03:50"so let's all fill our water bottles."
0:03:50 > 0:03:54Mouse, Frog, Squirrel and Duck needed some help.
0:03:55 > 0:04:00And by the time they were ready, the rabbit twins had taken all
0:04:00 > 0:04:03the balls and all the bean bags.
0:04:03 > 0:04:07The only thing left was an empty box.
0:04:07 > 0:04:10Aye-Aye had an idea.
0:04:10 > 0:04:15He turned the box upside down, then he climbed up
0:04:15 > 0:04:20and reached out his hands. "Come on, Squirrel," he said.
0:04:25 > 0:04:32"Goodness, what a team!" said Miss Deer, as she caught the first ball.
0:04:32 > 0:04:37The rabbit twins looked grumpier than ever.
0:04:37 > 0:04:41After school, Mouse scampered alongside Aye-Aye.
0:04:41 > 0:04:44"We're having our class photograph tomorrow,"
0:04:44 > 0:04:49she explained, "so don't forget to wear something special."
0:04:49 > 0:04:53In the morning Miss Deer took all the animals outside for their photograph.
0:04:53 > 0:04:57"I need some help with my bow."
0:04:57 > 0:05:01"Say cheese!" she said.
0:05:01 > 0:05:04Everyone smiled their biggest smiles.
0:05:04 > 0:05:09The rabbit twins looked very pleased with themselves.
0:05:09 > 0:05:12"We're the cutest," they muttered.
0:05:12 > 0:05:17Later that day, Aye-Aye and all his friends noticed that
0:05:17 > 0:05:21the competition had mysteriously changed again.
0:05:22 > 0:05:25"The cutest, fluffiest,
0:05:25 > 0:05:32"twinniest bunnies in the class will win a special prize."
0:05:32 > 0:05:36And this time, Miss Deer noticed too.
0:05:36 > 0:05:40Miss Deer soon solved the mystery of how
0:05:40 > 0:05:45and why the words on the chalkboard had been changing all week.
0:05:45 > 0:05:50"As the naughtiest animals," she said to the rabbit twins,
0:05:50 > 0:05:54"your job is to clean the classroom.
0:05:55 > 0:05:59"And this big, shiny cup is for Aye-Aye,
0:05:59 > 0:06:03"because he has been the most helpful animal."
0:06:03 > 0:06:06After cleaning the classroom,
0:06:06 > 0:06:10the rabbit twins decided to say sorry to Aye-Aye.
0:06:10 > 0:06:15"That's a lovely prize," said Aye-Aye's new friends.
0:06:15 > 0:06:19But Aye-Aye couldn't help feeling a little bit disappointed.
0:06:19 > 0:06:22A big, shiny cup was nice,
0:06:22 > 0:06:27but it wasn't the thing he wanted most in the whole wide world.
0:06:27 > 0:06:33Then, just before home time, Miss Deer smiled knowingly,
0:06:33 > 0:06:35and she took a book from her table.
0:06:35 > 0:06:40"It's story time," she said, and a hush fell over the room.
0:06:40 > 0:06:44"Aye-Aye loved picture books," began Miss Deer.
0:06:44 > 0:06:47"He loved the pictures, he loved the stories,
0:06:47 > 0:06:51"he loved them so much, that the thing he wanted most in the whole
0:06:51 > 0:06:56"wide world was to be in a picture book."
0:06:56 > 0:06:59And now, he was!
0:07:01 > 0:07:05Lucky Aye-Aye, having a story all about him.
0:07:05 > 0:07:08I think he deserved it though, don't you?
0:07:08 > 0:07:12Now, you know what comes after a bedtime story, don't you?
0:07:12 > 0:07:16That's right. It's bedtime.
0:07:16 > 0:07:18Off you go and get tucked up,
0:07:18 > 0:07:21and I'll be back again soon with another story.
