0:00:07 > 0:00:10Hello. My name's Lesley.
0:00:10 > 0:00:13Are you ready for bed?
0:00:13 > 0:00:17Tonight's story is about someone who IS ready for bed,
0:00:17 > 0:00:19but when she climbs in,
0:00:19 > 0:00:22she finds a few surprises.
0:00:22 > 0:00:25Will she ever get to sleep?
0:00:25 > 0:00:27Let's find out.
0:00:27 > 0:00:29The story is called A Bed Of Your Own
0:00:29 > 0:00:34and is by Mij Kelly with pictures by Mary Mcquillan.
0:00:35 > 0:00:39This is the story of Suzy Sue,
0:00:39 > 0:00:42ready for bed, just like you.
0:00:42 > 0:00:45She brushed her teeth, she picked up her ted,
0:00:45 > 0:00:48she clambered and climbed
0:00:48 > 0:00:49into her bed.
0:00:51 > 0:00:55She yawned a huge yawn and turned out the light.
0:00:57 > 0:00:59But something, somewhere...
0:01:00 > 0:01:03wasn't quite right.
0:01:03 > 0:01:04"I'm squished!"
0:01:05 > 0:01:07"I'm squashed!"
0:01:08 > 0:01:12"I'm uncomfy!" she said.
0:01:12 > 0:01:15"I think there's something wrong with the bed."
0:01:15 > 0:01:18"I know," said the cow.
0:01:18 > 0:01:21"This bed's far too small. I've tried and I've tried,
0:01:21 > 0:01:24"but I can't sleep at all!"
0:01:24 > 0:01:25Oh, what a shock.
0:01:25 > 0:01:28What a drama of dramas! A cow in the bed?!
0:01:28 > 0:01:29A cow in pyjamas?!
0:01:31 > 0:01:35"What are you doing?" said Suzy Sue.
0:01:35 > 0:01:39"What do you think?" said the cow, with a moo.
0:01:39 > 0:01:42"I'm trying to go to sleep, of course."
0:01:42 > 0:01:46"Oh, please, do be quiet," grumbled the horse.
0:01:46 > 0:01:49"How in the world can I get a nap with the pair of you going
0:01:49 > 0:01:50"yappety-yap?"
0:01:51 > 0:01:53What a shock.
0:01:53 > 0:01:55What a bolt from the blue!
0:01:55 > 0:01:59A horse in the bed with his cuddly toys, too!
0:02:01 > 0:02:04And when Suzy Sue fell back in a heap,
0:02:04 > 0:02:08what she thought was a pillow was really
0:02:08 > 0:02:09a sheep!
0:02:09 > 0:02:11Baa!
0:02:11 > 0:02:14"How can I sleep? How can I doze?
0:02:14 > 0:02:17"Please, please, let go of my nose!"
0:02:18 > 0:02:19Oh, what a shock.
0:02:19 > 0:02:21What a dreadful surprise!
0:02:21 > 0:02:25By now, Suzy Sue was getting quite wise!
0:02:25 > 0:02:29She threw back the covers, she called loud and clear,
0:02:29 > 0:02:33"Are any more animals hiding in here?"
0:02:33 > 0:02:36"Just little me," somebody said.
0:02:36 > 0:02:40And Suzy Sue fell out of the bed.
0:02:40 > 0:02:44Goodness gracious! Oh, golly! Oh, gosh!
0:02:44 > 0:02:46No wonder the bed was a terrible squash!
0:02:46 > 0:02:50No wonder nobody could get any sleep with a goat and a horse
0:02:50 > 0:02:52and a cow and a sheep all tossing and turning,
0:02:52 > 0:02:56all hogging the covers and fighting for pillows
0:02:56 > 0:02:58and kicking each other!
0:02:58 > 0:03:02"For goodness' sake!" yawned Suzy Sue.
0:03:02 > 0:03:05"What on earth's got into you?"
0:03:06 > 0:03:08"Don't you have a bed of your own?"
0:03:08 > 0:03:10SIGHS
0:03:10 > 0:03:13"We can't sleep there," said the sheep with a groan.
0:03:13 > 0:03:16"It's too hot." "It's too cold."
0:03:16 > 0:03:18"It's too dark!" "It's too light!"
0:03:18 > 0:03:21"There's something about it that isn't quite right."
0:03:21 > 0:03:25But Suzy Sue was stern and strong.
0:03:25 > 0:03:28She led them back where they belonged.
0:03:28 > 0:03:30She tucked them up
0:03:30 > 0:03:33and then she read a book about going to bed.
0:03:35 > 0:03:38She hugged them all and said,
0:03:38 > 0:03:39"Goodnight."
0:03:40 > 0:03:44But just as she went to turn down the light,
0:03:44 > 0:03:47she had an idea and suddenly said,
0:03:47 > 0:03:50"It's all very well this going to bed.
0:03:50 > 0:03:53"But what really matters is falling asleep."
0:03:55 > 0:03:59"But that's the hardest part," said the sheep.
0:03:59 > 0:04:02So, Suzy Sue climbed in the bed.
0:04:02 > 0:04:05"What you have to do," she said,
0:04:05 > 0:04:10"is feel how your bed is all comfy and cosy.
0:04:11 > 0:04:18"Feel how it makes you all drowsy and dozy.
0:04:19 > 0:04:23"Feel a safe, soothing softness beginning to spread
0:04:23 > 0:04:29"from the tips of your toes to the top of your head.
0:04:30 > 0:04:35"And all of your worries are wafting away
0:04:35 > 0:04:39"like a bunch of balloons on a cloudless spring day.
0:04:39 > 0:04:43"And you're in a boat floating downstream,
0:04:43 > 0:04:47"drifting away on a beautiful dream."
0:04:49 > 0:04:53In the silence that followed,
0:04:53 > 0:04:55you could hear a pin drop.
0:04:57 > 0:05:00"Go on," said the cow.
0:05:00 > 0:05:02"Please don't stop."
0:05:02 > 0:05:03SHE SNORES
0:05:03 > 0:05:05"Oh, dear!" said the goat.
0:05:05 > 0:05:08"Oh, dear! Oh, dear!
0:05:08 > 0:05:10"She's fallen asleep.
0:05:10 > 0:05:13"But she can't sleep here!
0:05:13 > 0:05:16"She's hogging the bed! She's starting to snore!
0:05:16 > 0:05:20"She'll keep us awake. It's happened before!"
0:05:20 > 0:05:23"Oh, silly Suzy Sue," they said.
0:05:24 > 0:05:27"Come on, let's take you back to bed."
0:05:27 > 0:05:31See, each of us has our own place to rest.
0:05:31 > 0:05:33A mouse has a hole.
0:05:33 > 0:05:35The hen has a nest.
0:05:35 > 0:05:36The pig has a sty.
0:05:36 > 0:05:37PIG GRUNTS
0:05:37 > 0:05:39It's smelly, but snug.
0:05:39 > 0:05:41The dog has his basket,
0:05:41 > 0:05:42the cat has her rug.
0:05:42 > 0:05:45They all have beds!
0:05:45 > 0:05:46And you do, too.
0:05:46 > 0:05:48SHE SNORES
0:05:48 > 0:05:50So, snuggle down, Suzy Sue.
0:05:50 > 0:05:53SHE SNORES
0:05:53 > 0:05:55That was the story of Suzy Sue,
0:05:55 > 0:05:58safe in her own bed...
0:06:00 > 0:06:02..like you should be, too.
0:06:03 > 0:06:06That story was called A Bed Of Your Own.
0:06:06 > 0:06:08What a squash it was in Suzy's bed!
0:06:08 > 0:06:11I hope your bed isn't full of animals like hers.
0:06:11 > 0:06:15Well, maybe a soft toy to cuddle up with.
0:06:15 > 0:06:18Now, it's time that you went to sleep.
0:06:18 > 0:06:21So, I'll say night-night.
0:06:21 > 0:06:22Sweet dreams.
0:06:23 > 0:06:25I'll see you again soon.
