0:30:03 > 0:30:06Hello, I'm Clare. I've just taken down this sign.
0:30:06 > 0:30:10It says, "No visitors allowed," and that's not right.
0:30:10 > 0:30:12I love people visiting me.
0:30:12 > 0:30:16And I'm expecting someone for a cup of tea later.
0:30:16 > 0:30:20And there's a tiny little visitor in tonight's bedtime story.
0:30:20 > 0:30:23The story is called A Visitor For Bear.
0:30:23 > 0:30:25No-one ever came to Bear's house.
0:30:25 > 0:30:27It had always been that way
0:30:27 > 0:30:30and Bear was quite sure he didn't like visitors.
0:30:30 > 0:30:34He even had a sign - "No visitors allowed."
0:30:34 > 0:30:39One morning, Bear heard a tap-tap-tapping on his front door.
0:30:39 > 0:30:41When he opened it, there was a mouse,
0:30:41 > 0:30:44small and grey and bright eyed.
0:30:44 > 0:30:48"No visitors allowed," Bear said, pointing to the sign.
0:30:48 > 0:30:50"Go away!" He closed the door
0:30:50 > 0:30:54and went back to the business of making his breakfast.
0:30:54 > 0:30:57He set out one cup and one spoon.
0:30:57 > 0:31:01But when he opened the cupboard to get one bowl,
0:31:01 > 0:31:04there was the mouse. Small and grey and bright eyed.
0:31:04 > 0:31:08"I told you to leave!" cried Bear.
0:31:08 > 0:31:13"Perhaps we could just have a drop of tea," said the mouse.
0:31:13 > 0:31:16"Out!" Commanded Bear.
0:31:16 > 0:31:20Oh, sorry," said the mouse, "I'll be going now."
0:31:20 > 0:31:23Bear showed him to the door and shut it firmly,
0:31:23 > 0:31:26then he went back to making his breakfast.
0:31:26 > 0:31:30But when he opened the bread drawer for one slice of bread,
0:31:30 > 0:31:32there was the mouse.
0:31:32 > 0:31:34Small and grey and bright eyed.
0:31:34 > 0:31:39"Unbelievable!" rumbled Bear, "Away with you, clear off!"
0:31:39 > 0:31:43"I do like a bit of cheese," said the mouse.
0:31:43 > 0:31:46Bear pointed a rigid claw towards the door.
0:31:46 > 0:31:49"Right then, here I go, farewell."
0:31:49 > 0:31:52And the mouse whisked out of the door.
0:31:52 > 0:31:56This time, Bear shut the door very firmly and locked it tight.
0:31:56 > 0:31:58He locked the windows too, for good measure.
0:31:58 > 0:32:04Then, once again, he went back to the business of making his breakfast.
0:32:04 > 0:32:08But when he opened the fridge to get one egg, there was the mouse.
0:32:08 > 0:32:11Small and grey and bright eyed, of course.
0:32:11 > 0:32:14"Be gone!" roared Bear.
0:32:14 > 0:32:18"Shall we light the fire?" asked the mouse.
0:32:18 > 0:32:25"This is impossible, intolerable, insufferable!" cried Bear,
0:32:25 > 0:32:27shaking with anger and disbelief.
0:32:27 > 0:32:31"Terribly sorry. Now you see me, now you don't. I'm gone."
0:32:31 > 0:32:35And the mouse looked very sorry while he waited for Bear
0:32:35 > 0:32:38to unbolt the door and let him out.
0:32:38 > 0:32:42This time, before he went back to the business of making his breakfast,
0:32:42 > 0:32:45Bear shut the door very, very, VERY firmly.
0:32:45 > 0:32:49Locked it, boarded up the windows, blocked the chimney
0:32:49 > 0:32:52and even put the plug in the bath tub.
0:32:52 > 0:32:56Carefully, Bear set about the business of making his breakfast.
0:32:56 > 0:33:01He opened the cupboard, no mouse. Ah.
0:33:01 > 0:33:04He opened the bread drawer. Nothing.
0:33:04 > 0:33:05Phew.
0:33:05 > 0:33:09He opened the fridge. Mouse-free, yes, indeed.
0:33:09 > 0:33:12He lifted the lid from the kettle.
0:33:12 > 0:33:17And there was the mouse. Small, grey and, well, you know the rest.
0:33:17 > 0:33:18Bear fell to the floor.
0:33:18 > 0:33:22"I give up!" he blubbered.
0:33:22 > 0:33:25"You win, I am undone."
0:33:25 > 0:33:27"So sorry," said the mouse,
0:33:27 > 0:33:31"but perhaps I could just have a tiny bit of cheese and a cup of tea.
0:33:31 > 0:33:35"And do you think we could unblock the chimney and light a nice fire?"
0:33:35 > 0:33:41Bear blew his nose with a loud honk. "But then you must go,"
0:33:41 > 0:33:44he sniffed, "No visitors allowed."
0:33:44 > 0:33:47"You have my word," said the mouse.
0:33:47 > 0:33:51Bear unboarded the windows, unlocked the door, unblocked the chimney
0:33:51 > 0:33:54and took the plug out of the bath.
0:33:54 > 0:33:57He brought out two plates of cheese and two teacups.
0:33:57 > 0:34:01And he lit a fire in the grate for two sets of toes.
0:34:01 > 0:34:06The mouse warmed his feet and nibbled and sipped and Bear did too.
0:34:06 > 0:34:11They sat for a long time. The clock on Bear's mantelpiece ticked loudly.
0:34:11 > 0:34:14Bear cleared his throat, "Ahem."
0:34:14 > 0:34:18The mouse looked most attentive.
0:34:18 > 0:34:21No-one had ever been most attentive to Bear.
0:34:21 > 0:34:25"The fire is nice," Bear announced.
0:34:25 > 0:34:27"Lovely," said the mouse.
0:34:27 > 0:34:30No-one had ever said Bear's fires were lovely.
0:34:30 > 0:34:33"I can do a headstand," said Bear.
0:34:33 > 0:34:36"Very impressive!" exclaimed the mouse.
0:34:36 > 0:34:41Bear told a joke, the mouse laughed heartily.
0:34:41 > 0:34:45No-one had ever laughed at Bear's jokes before.
0:34:45 > 0:34:48Bear began to think of another joke.
0:34:48 > 0:34:50The mouse set down his teacup.
0:34:50 > 0:34:52Bear quickly lifted the teapot.
0:34:52 > 0:34:55"There's plenty more," he said.
0:34:55 > 0:34:59"So sorry," said the mouse. "Most kind, but I must be on my way."
0:34:59 > 0:35:06"Really, you needn't go," said Bear. "I'm off," said the mouse,
0:35:06 > 0:35:08springing up from his chair.
0:35:08 > 0:35:09"Wait!" cried Bear.
0:35:09 > 0:35:12But the mouse stepped out the door.
0:35:12 > 0:35:14"Toodle-oo!" said the mouse.
0:35:14 > 0:35:18"Don't go!" wailed Bear. "But I gave you my word."
0:35:18 > 0:35:22Said the mouse, pointing at the "No visitors" sign.
0:35:22 > 0:35:27"Oh, that." cried Bear, pulling down the sign and tearing it up.
0:35:27 > 0:35:31"That's for salesmen, not for friends."
0:35:31 > 0:35:36"Not for friends?" asked the mouse, small and grey and bright eyed.
0:35:36 > 0:35:39Bear nodded. The mouses bright eyes glowed brighter.
0:35:39 > 0:35:41Bear smiled.
0:35:41 > 0:35:46"Do you like one lump of sugar or two?" said Bear, most politely.
0:35:46 > 0:35:49"I like two." said the mouse.
0:35:49 > 0:35:51And Bear agreed.
0:35:51 > 0:35:54And that story was called A Visitor For Bear.
0:35:54 > 0:35:56So that's who put this sign up.
0:35:56 > 0:35:57Must have been Bear.
0:35:57 > 0:36:01Well, I'm glad I've taken it down, I need to put the kettle on
0:36:01 > 0:36:05ready for a nice cup of tea when my visitor arrives.
0:36:05 > 0:36:08I'll see you soon for another story. Night, night.
