0:00:11 > 0:00:13You are?

0:00:13 > 0:00:20That's great! Do you sometimes have trouble falling asleep? I know I do.

0:00:20 > 0:00:24This is a story about a little girl who often finds it hard to

0:00:24 > 0:00:25fall asleep.

0:00:25 > 0:00:30It's called Can't Sleep Without Sheep and has been written

0:00:30 > 0:00:35by Susanna Leonard Hill and illustrated by Mike Wohnoutka.

0:00:35 > 0:00:39If you're sitting comfortably, I'll begin.

0:00:41 > 0:00:48Ava had a hard time falling asleep. Her mind was always SO busy.

0:00:48 > 0:00:53"Try counting sheep," suggested her mother, so she did.

0:00:54 > 0:00:58"One sheep jumping over the fence,

0:00:58 > 0:01:02"two sheep jumping over the fence,

0:01:02 > 0:01:07"three sheep jumping over the fence," but her mind was full

0:01:07 > 0:01:13of ideas, and questions, thoughts of today and plans for tomorrow.

0:01:13 > 0:01:17Night after night, the sheep had to jump the fence many times.

0:01:18 > 0:01:24"Can we please stop?", asked the sheep. "We're exhausted!" "No!

0:01:24 > 0:01:29"I need you to keep jumping," said Ava.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31"In that case, we quit."

0:01:31 > 0:01:36"You can't quit!" said Ava. "How will I get to sleep?"

0:01:36 > 0:01:41"Don't worry, we'll find a replacement," they promised.

0:01:41 > 0:01:46Horses seemed like the best choice, but they were so beautiful,

0:01:46 > 0:01:48that Ava made the fence higher

0:01:48 > 0:01:52and wider to see how well they could jump.

0:01:52 > 0:01:57"Horses are too much fun," said the sheep. "We need somebody

0:01:57 > 0:02:00"less pretty. Send in the chickens."

0:02:00 > 0:02:01BUCK BUCK BUCK

0:02:01 > 0:02:04The chickens TRIED to get over the fence,

0:02:04 > 0:02:09they WANTED to get over the fence.

0:02:09 > 0:02:13Ava laughed and laughed.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15But she did not go to sleep.

0:02:15 > 0:02:19"We need somebody less ridiculous," said the sheep.

0:02:19 > 0:02:24"Pigs?" The pigs were not in any hurry.

0:02:24 > 0:02:25OINK OINK OINK

0:02:25 > 0:02:27"One pig over the fence,"

0:02:27 > 0:02:32said Ava, then she had to wait while the others stopped to snack!

0:02:32 > 0:02:36"Pigs are too slow," decided the sheep.

0:02:37 > 0:02:39The cows were a complete disaster!

0:02:39 > 0:02:42CRASH MOOO!

0:02:42 > 0:02:45This was harder than the sheep thought!

0:02:45 > 0:02:47But just as they were getting started,

0:02:47 > 0:02:51the penguins looked at the fence, then looked at themselves.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54"We need a plan," they said.

0:02:54 > 0:02:55RUMBLING

0:02:58 > 0:03:00MEEEHHH SQUAWK

0:03:00 > 0:03:03"Next!" said the sheep.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06The hippos waddled forward.

0:03:06 > 0:03:13"This could take a while," said one sheep. The animals grew impatient.

0:03:13 > 0:03:18"Is it our turn?", asked the herd of buffalo. "No, we're next!",

0:03:18 > 0:03:22shouted the flamingos, the armadillos, and the beavers.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25"We'll see about that!", roared the buffalo.

0:03:25 > 0:03:29The stampede began as the buffalo charged the fence.

0:03:29 > 0:03:35Dust rose in clouds, splinters flew everywhere! It was chaos!

0:03:35 > 0:03:39"STOP!", cried Eva.

0:03:39 > 0:03:43I'll never get to sleep like this.

0:03:43 > 0:03:46"Wow," said the sheep.

0:03:46 > 0:03:50"Who knew we'd be so hard to replace?"

0:03:50 > 0:03:54"I knew," Eva replied.

0:03:54 > 0:03:57"You always show up for work, you line up nicely,

0:03:57 > 0:04:03"and jump calmly, you're fluffy and peaceful and perfect!"

0:04:03 > 0:04:07"Well," said one sheep. "It's nice to be appreciated."

0:04:08 > 0:04:12"Please, will you stay?", begged Ava.

0:04:12 > 0:04:16"I need you to help me fall asleep."

0:04:16 > 0:04:19"Don't worry," said the sheep.

0:04:19 > 0:04:22"You can count on us."

0:04:22 > 0:04:24So she did.

0:04:27 > 0:04:31I hope you enjoyed that story. Thanks to Ava counting all

0:04:31 > 0:04:36those different animals, I'm going to stick with sheep, just like her.

0:04:40 > 0:04:42as it's almost your bedtime?

0:04:42 > 0:04:47I'll see you soon for another story, but for now, sleep tight.
