0:00:07 > 0:00:09Hello, my name's Sean.
0:00:09 > 0:00:11Is this your ball?
0:00:11 > 0:00:12No?
0:00:12 > 0:00:14Oh.
0:00:14 > 0:00:16I wonder who it can belong to.
0:00:16 > 0:00:21Well, perhaps tonight's bedtime story will help us find out.
0:00:21 > 0:00:25It's called Scruffy Bear And The Lost Ball,
0:00:25 > 0:00:26and it's by Chris Wormell.
0:00:28 > 0:00:31One day, a red ball came flying
0:00:31 > 0:00:34through the air towards Scruffy Bear.
0:00:34 > 0:00:36So, he kicked it.
0:00:36 > 0:00:39It flew straight up in the air
0:00:39 > 0:00:43and disappeared among the branches of an oak tree.
0:00:43 > 0:00:47Scruffy Bear waited for the ball to come down.
0:00:47 > 0:00:49But it didn't.
0:00:49 > 0:00:53Just then, four rabbits appeared.
0:00:53 > 0:00:56"Have you seen our ball?" they asked.
0:00:56 > 0:00:59"A ball?" exclaimed Scruffy Bear.
0:00:59 > 0:01:01"Was it a red one?"
0:01:01 > 0:01:03"Yes," said the rabbits, nodding.
0:01:03 > 0:01:06"A shiny, new, red one."
0:01:06 > 0:01:09"Oh," said Scruffy Bear,
0:01:09 > 0:01:11a little guiltily.
0:01:11 > 0:01:15"I think it may be up in this tree."
0:01:15 > 0:01:20They all looked up, waiting for the ball to come down...
0:01:20 > 0:01:21but it didn't.
0:01:21 > 0:01:25"Must be caught amongst the branches," suggested Scruffy Bear.
0:01:25 > 0:01:27"But I'll soon get it down.
0:01:27 > 0:01:29"I'm an excellent tree climber."
0:01:29 > 0:01:35Actually, Scruffy Bear had never climbed a tree in his life.
0:01:35 > 0:01:37It was much harder than he thought,
0:01:37 > 0:01:40and when he'd only gone a little way up,
0:01:40 > 0:01:43the ground looked a very long way down.
0:01:43 > 0:01:47The rabbits were joined by six white mice,
0:01:47 > 0:01:52and they all looked up at Scruffy Bear balancing on a branch.
0:01:52 > 0:01:55"What's that?" called one of the rabbits.
0:01:55 > 0:01:58"I can see something red among those leaves over there."
0:01:58 > 0:02:01Scruffy Bear saw the red thing too,
0:02:01 > 0:02:03and inched his way along the branch,
0:02:03 > 0:02:06being careful not to look down.
0:02:06 > 0:02:11He reached over and was about to grab the red thing, when...
0:02:11 > 0:02:14"Oi! What are you doing?!" demanded Squirrel.
0:02:14 > 0:02:16"Leave my tail alone!"
0:02:16 > 0:02:18Scruffy Bear got such a shock,
0:02:18 > 0:02:20he very nearly fell off the branch.
0:02:20 > 0:02:23"S-Sorry, I was looking for a ball," he explained.
0:02:23 > 0:02:25"I'm not a ball!" snapped Squirrel.
0:02:25 > 0:02:29"No, you're nothing like one," agreed Scruffy Bear,
0:02:29 > 0:02:31climbing back along the branch.
0:02:33 > 0:02:38A little higher up, Scruffy Bear found a hole in the trunk.
0:02:38 > 0:02:42"Hmm, the ball must've gone in here," he thought.
0:02:43 > 0:02:47"Have you found it yet?" called one of the rabbits from below.
0:02:47 > 0:02:49"Nearly!" replied Scruffy Bear.
0:02:49 > 0:02:53He was just peering into the hole when...
0:02:53 > 0:02:56"Whoo-oo are yoo-ou?!" hooted Owl, crossly.
0:02:56 > 0:03:01"Poking your nose into my bedroom in the middle of the day, too!"
0:03:01 > 0:03:03Poor Scruffy Bear got such a shock,
0:03:03 > 0:03:07he rolled right over backwards and nearly fell off the branch.
0:03:07 > 0:03:10"Sorry," he said, quickly climbing further up the tree.
0:03:10 > 0:03:12Up and up he climbed,
0:03:12 > 0:03:15and now, he was so high,
0:03:15 > 0:03:18he could no longer hear the rabbits or the mice,
0:03:18 > 0:03:20or even see the ground down below.
0:03:20 > 0:03:22He felt a bit giddy.
0:03:22 > 0:03:24At the very top of the tree,
0:03:24 > 0:03:28he found a great nest of sticks.
0:03:28 > 0:03:33"Hmm, that ball must be in here for sure," he thought,
0:03:33 > 0:03:37and was just about to peep into the nest, when...
0:03:37 > 0:03:39"Thief! Thief!"
0:03:39 > 0:03:43squawked a huge bird with a long, sharp beak.
0:03:43 > 0:03:46It was a stork. "You're after my eggs, aren't you?"
0:03:46 > 0:03:49"No, I'm not!" protested Scruffy Bear. "I'm after a ball."
0:03:49 > 0:03:53"A ball? There are no balls here, only eggs."
0:03:53 > 0:03:55"Are you sure?" asked Scruffy Bear.
0:03:55 > 0:03:57"How many eggs do you have?"
0:03:57 > 0:04:01"Why, four, of course. I can count, you know."
0:04:01 > 0:04:03"You have five now," said Scruffy Bear.
0:04:03 > 0:04:05"And one of them is red."
0:04:05 > 0:04:08"Red?" cried The Stork.
0:04:08 > 0:04:09"That's not my egg!"
0:04:09 > 0:04:13"No, it's my ball," said Scruffy Bear.
0:04:13 > 0:04:15He was just picking up the ball,
0:04:15 > 0:04:19when one of the stork's eggs began to crack, and...
0:04:19 > 0:04:21CRACKING
0:04:21 > 0:04:24..out popped a baby stork.
0:04:24 > 0:04:27This time, Scruffy Bear did fall.
0:04:27 > 0:04:30Down, down, down,
0:04:30 > 0:04:32faster and faster and faster,
0:04:32 > 0:04:35and when he reached the ground... he bounced.
0:04:35 > 0:04:39"I thought I'd come down the quick way," he said,
0:04:39 > 0:04:43as he bounced again and again and again.
0:04:43 > 0:04:47That afternoon, they all played a game of football.
0:04:47 > 0:04:52Scruffy Bear and the six white mice against the rabbits.
0:04:52 > 0:04:54The rabbits won,
0:04:54 > 0:04:5624 goals to 23.
0:04:58 > 0:05:03That story was called Scruffy Bear And The Lost Ball.
0:05:03 > 0:05:05I hope you enjoyed it.
0:05:05 > 0:05:10So, I think I know who this ball belongs to now. Do you?
0:05:10 > 0:05:12I'll give it back in the morning.
0:05:12 > 0:05:16Perhaps they'll let me join in a game of football.
0:05:16 > 0:05:17It's bedtime now, though.
0:05:17 > 0:05:20So, let's say goodnight.
0:05:20 > 0:05:22Sleep tight,
0:05:22 > 0:05:23I'll see you soon.
