0:00:06 > 0:00:08What's that?
0:00:08 > 0:00:10Of course you can have a hug.
0:00:10 > 0:00:12Hello. I'm Mark.
0:00:12 > 0:00:16And I'll be reading you a bedtime story tonight all about hugs.
0:00:16 > 0:00:18I love hugs, do you?
0:00:18 > 0:00:20Of course you do.
0:00:20 > 0:00:24So why don't you go and get your favourite teddy or toy
0:00:24 > 0:00:27and give them a cuddle while we find out all about Douglas
0:00:27 > 0:00:30and his search for a hug.
0:00:30 > 0:00:35The story is written and illustrated by David Melling.
0:00:35 > 0:00:41One spring morning, a big ya-a-a-awn
0:00:41 > 0:00:44came from the back of a deep, dark cave.
0:00:44 > 0:00:48It was a young brown bear, and his name was Douglas.
0:00:48 > 0:00:53"I need a hug," said Douglas.
0:00:53 > 0:00:57So he wriggled out of his pyjamas, brushed his hair,
0:00:57 > 0:01:00put on a scarf, and went to look for one.
0:01:00 > 0:01:05"My best hugs are big," thought Douglas.
0:01:05 > 0:01:08So he went up to the biggest thing he could find,
0:01:08 > 0:01:13wrapped his arms all the way around and gave it a squeeze.
0:01:13 > 0:01:15It didn't feel quite right.
0:01:15 > 0:01:21"Oh," grunted Douglas, "it's a bit too heavy."
0:01:21 > 0:01:24THUD!
0:01:24 > 0:01:28"My best hugs are tall," thought Douglas.
0:01:28 > 0:01:31So he went up to the tallest thing he could find,
0:01:31 > 0:01:35he hugged the bottom, he hugged around the middle,
0:01:35 > 0:01:38and he hugged as high as he could reach.
0:01:38 > 0:01:42But it was all wrong, and it had splinters!
0:01:44 > 0:01:50"My best hugs are comfy," thought Douglas,
0:01:50 > 0:01:53and he trotted towards a cosy-looking bush.
0:01:53 > 0:01:57He cuddled the bush, but felt something very odd.
0:01:57 > 0:02:02The leaves quivered and trembled and ran away!
0:02:02 > 0:02:06"Give us a hug!" Cried Douglas.
0:02:06 > 0:02:11"No," baaed the sheep. "We're too busy."
0:02:11 > 0:02:15He scooped up armfuls anyway and try to cuddle them gently,
0:02:15 > 0:02:19but they kicked and squirmed and didn't like it at all.
0:02:19 > 0:02:21Poor Douglas.
0:02:21 > 0:02:25"Why can't I find a hug?" he said.
0:02:25 > 0:02:32"If I want a hug," said a wise owl, "I sit in my tree and..."
0:02:32 > 0:02:37"Let me try!" whooped Douglas. And he scrambled up next to the owl.
0:02:37 > 0:02:40But he soon found himself in a clumsy muddle.
0:02:40 > 0:02:45"Too-woo, too-wit," said the owl crossly.
0:02:45 > 0:02:49"I only wanted a hug," sniffed Douglas.
0:02:49 > 0:02:52"Perhaps there's one down here."
0:02:52 > 0:02:59He felt something long-eared and rabbity and gave it a tug.
0:02:59 > 0:03:02Douglas could tell the rabbit didn't want a hug.
0:03:02 > 0:03:06He sniffed again, and without thinking,
0:03:06 > 0:03:08wiped his nose on the fluffy end.
0:03:08 > 0:03:12"Excuse me," shouted the rabbit.
0:03:12 > 0:03:14"Put me down!"
0:03:14 > 0:03:20"But I need a hug," said Douglas, "and I can't find one anywhere"
0:03:20 > 0:03:24"Oh, I see," said the rabbit, kindly.
0:03:24 > 0:03:27"Come with me."
0:03:27 > 0:03:31She took Douglas by the paw and led him round and about.
0:03:31 > 0:03:35At last, they came to a deep, dark cave
0:03:35 > 0:03:39where a sleepy someone was just waking up.
0:03:39 > 0:03:45HE YAWNS
0:03:47 > 0:03:49Douglas peeped inside.
0:03:49 > 0:03:54He had the funniest feeling that he knew that someone very well.
0:03:54 > 0:03:59"Hug?" Asked Douglas as he ran as fast as he could towards...
0:03:59 > 0:04:02..his mum!
0:04:02 > 0:04:05"Aahh, come to think of it,
0:04:05 > 0:04:10"my best hugs are from someone I love," said Douglas.
0:04:10 > 0:04:14And he snuggled into the biggest, warmest arms he knew.
0:04:16 > 0:04:19I'm so glad that Douglas got his hug.
0:04:19 > 0:04:22Are you still hugging your teddy?
0:04:22 > 0:04:26Me too. My teddy's giving me the best cuddle.
0:04:26 > 0:04:28Oh, thanks, teddy.
0:04:28 > 0:04:32And thank you for joining me for tonight's bedtime story.
0:04:32 > 0:04:37I'll be back soon to read you another one. Sweet dreams. Na-night.
