0:00:06 > 0:00:08Hello. I'm Jennie.
0:00:08 > 0:00:11And as you can see, I've got curly hair.
0:00:11 > 0:00:14And do you know what? I love it.
0:00:14 > 0:00:17Tonight's Bedtime Story is about a little girl
0:00:17 > 0:00:20who has curly red hair, just like me,
0:00:20 > 0:00:23but she really doesn't like hers.
0:00:23 > 0:00:27It's called I Don't Want Curly Hair,
0:00:27 > 0:00:30and it was written and illustrated by Laura Ellen Anderson.
0:00:32 > 0:00:37No! I do not want this big curly hair!
0:00:37 > 0:00:41It's messy and silly and just plain unfair.
0:00:41 > 0:00:46Just look at these spirals, these squiggles, these swirls!
0:00:46 > 0:00:50Too bouncy! Too loopy! Oh, so many curls.
0:00:50 > 0:00:55Always too knotty and fuzzy and frizzy.
0:00:55 > 0:00:59They curl and they coil - it's making me dizzy!
0:00:59 > 0:01:04I want my hair straight. I want my hair smooth.
0:01:04 > 0:01:07I want it to flow through the air when I move.
0:01:09 > 0:01:13So I use a big brush and brush it all night,
0:01:13 > 0:01:17for hours and hours, with all of my might.
0:01:19 > 0:01:24Next morning I'm frazzled. My brush hand is sore.
0:01:24 > 0:01:27And my hair is more twisty and looped than before!
0:01:28 > 0:01:32I ask all my best friends to pull it and stretch it.
0:01:32 > 0:01:36But ouch! That's enough! It's no use. I will do it.
0:01:37 > 0:01:41I try using big books to weigh down the curls,
0:01:41 > 0:01:46but no, it does nothing to flatten these twirls!
0:01:47 > 0:01:53Balloons! Ah, what a plan! They'll make my hair straight.
0:01:53 > 0:01:56But hang on! What's happening?
0:01:56 > 0:01:58Oh! Now it's too late!
0:01:58 > 0:02:02I hunt down the stickiest tape I can find.
0:02:02 > 0:02:06This has to help each of the curls to unwind.
0:02:06 > 0:02:11But no! Each strand twizzles and wiggles and tangles
0:02:11 > 0:02:15and sticks out around me at mad, crazy angles!
0:02:15 > 0:02:19I wet it with water and...oh, my!
0:02:19 > 0:02:21It's straight!
0:02:21 > 0:02:25No Curly MacWhirlies, it simply is great!
0:02:26 > 0:02:30But as my hair dries, I hear the first boing
0:02:30 > 0:02:35as the curls all spring up with a ping and a doing!
0:02:35 > 0:02:39It's useless. I give up, as nothing is working.
0:02:39 > 0:02:42Behind every curl, there's another one lurking.
0:02:44 > 0:02:47So I hang upside down in my favourite tree
0:02:47 > 0:02:50wishing my curls would stop bothering me.
0:02:51 > 0:02:55Then, snapping me out of my big sulky grump,
0:02:55 > 0:02:59a girl stomps her way over and sits in a slump.
0:02:59 > 0:03:04She says, "My hair's useless! Oh, why won't it curl?
0:03:04 > 0:03:08"It's boring and straight. There's not even one twirl.
0:03:08 > 0:03:13"I've tried twisting and spinning, and rolling pins, too.
0:03:13 > 0:03:17"I want my hair lovely and big, just like you."
0:03:17 > 0:03:22We grin and start laughing. How silly we've been,
0:03:22 > 0:03:26with brushing and sticking and spins in between.
0:03:27 > 0:03:30I suddenly feel like my curls aren't that bad.
0:03:30 > 0:03:35In fact, now it turns out I'm feeling quite glad!
0:03:35 > 0:03:39We spend the whole day with our bows and our clips
0:03:39 > 0:03:41creating new styles and swapping top tips.
0:03:41 > 0:03:46Pigtails and bunches, a beehive, a bun!
0:03:46 > 0:03:50We have hours of fabulous, great hairy fun.
0:03:50 > 0:03:54The winding, the turning, the twists everywhere -
0:03:54 > 0:04:00no matter what shape or size, we love our hair.
0:04:02 > 0:04:07So if we were all the same, life would be a bit dull, wouldn't it?
0:04:07 > 0:04:09I love my curly hair, and I'm glad to say
0:04:09 > 0:04:13that so did the little girl from tonight's Bedtime Story,
0:04:13 > 0:04:15in the end.
0:04:15 > 0:04:19Join me again for another Bedtime Story. Night-night.
