0:00:07 > 0:00:12Hello, I'm Suranne. Are you snuggled up, cosy and warm?

0:00:12 > 0:00:17Good, because it's very chilly in tonight's bedtime story. Brr!

0:00:17 > 0:00:20In fact, it's snowing.

0:00:20 > 0:00:24We're going to an ice palace to help Princess Ellie make snowflakes,

0:00:24 > 0:00:27but it doesn't quite go according to plan.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30It's called The Snowflake Mistake,

0:00:30 > 0:00:34and it's written by Lou Treleaven with pictures by Maddie Frost.

0:00:36 > 0:00:41High, very high, almost too high to see, an ice palace

0:00:41 > 0:00:45floats like a ship on the sea, where clouds are collected

0:00:45 > 0:00:50before they float by to make all the snowflakes that fall from the sky.

0:00:52 > 0:00:56"Squish!" goes the roller to squash the clouds thin.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59"Crunch!" goes the puncture to stamp the flakes in.

0:00:59 > 0:01:02"I want them all perfect!" commands the Snow Queen.

0:01:02 > 0:01:06"If any don't match, they're not fit to be seen!"

0:01:06 > 0:01:09But young Princess Ellie would much rather play

0:01:09 > 0:01:11and chase all her friends in the sky every day.

0:01:11 > 0:01:15It's fun with the birds, choosing storm clouds to ride,

0:01:15 > 0:01:19or whizzing along down the big rainbow slide.

0:01:19 > 0:01:22One morning, the Queen has some business to do,

0:01:22 > 0:01:28appointing an artist to paint the sky blue. She calls the Princess.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31"You must mind the machine! Make sure the flakes match!

0:01:31 > 0:01:34"It's your turn to be queen."

0:01:34 > 0:01:38"Goodbye!" calls out Ellie then runs off outside

0:01:38 > 0:01:41to search for the birds as they take turns to hide.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44But all of a sudden, the sun slips away.

0:01:44 > 0:01:48The palace is cloaked in a cloud of cold grey.

0:01:48 > 0:01:53"Snow!" shouts out Ellie with all of her might. "We need to make snow!"

0:01:53 > 0:01:56But there's no-one in sight. "What should I do?

0:01:56 > 0:01:58"I'm supposed to be queen!

0:01:58 > 0:02:01"I'll use double speed on the snowflake machine!"

0:02:01 > 0:02:05ALARM SIREN WAILS

0:02:05 > 0:02:08"Splat!" goes the roller to mash the cloud thin.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11"Crash!" goes the puncture to bash the flakes in.

0:02:11 > 0:02:12"Boing!" goes a spring.

0:02:12 > 0:02:17There's a bang and a pop! And everything comes to a horrible stop.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22Ellie climbs up the tower to view the sad scene.

0:02:22 > 0:02:27Where white was expected, there are still fields of green.

0:02:27 > 0:02:32No snowballs are flying, no snowmen stand tall, no sledges are sliding.

0:02:32 > 0:02:33It's no fun at all!

0:02:34 > 0:02:39Poor Ellie stares down at the far below land then jumps up with joy.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42"I can make them by hand! I'll cut up some clouds.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45"They'll be different, I know, but no-one will mind,

0:02:45 > 0:02:49"just as long as there's snow!" "Snip, snip!" go her scissors.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51"This job will take weeks!"

0:02:51 > 0:02:55The birds flutter in and peck shapes with their beaks.

0:02:55 > 0:02:59Soon, snowflakes pile up. Some are big, some are small.

0:02:59 > 0:03:04"They're perfect!" says Ellie. "Let's scatter them all!"

0:03:04 > 0:03:08The hills become white like a pile of iced buns.

0:03:08 > 0:03:12The children catch flakes on their noses and tongues.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15The rooftops are tucked into spotless white sheets,

0:03:15 > 0:03:19and snowmen stand proudly on driveways and streets.

0:03:20 > 0:03:25The Queen comes back home. Snowflakes rest in her hand.

0:03:25 > 0:03:28"These all look so different! I don't understand!"

0:03:28 > 0:03:31"I'm sorry," says Ellie. "I made a mistake.

0:03:31 > 0:03:34"I broke the machine so we handmade each flake.

0:03:34 > 0:03:37"They're all different sizes, but nobody minds.

0:03:37 > 0:03:41"They love having snowflakes, whatever the kind."

0:03:41 > 0:03:46The Snow Queen peers down at the scene far below.

0:03:46 > 0:03:49"I've never seen anything quite like this snow!

0:03:49 > 0:03:52"Each flake is unique in its own special way but,

0:03:52 > 0:04:00"seen all at once, it's a dazzling display!" She hugs Ellie proudly.

0:04:00 > 0:04:04"You've been very clever. I love the new flakes!

0:04:04 > 0:04:07"It's the best snowfall ever!"

0:04:09 > 0:04:11High, very high,

0:04:11 > 0:04:14almost too high to see, an ice palace

0:04:14 > 0:04:18floats like a ship on the sea, where a queen and her daughter make

0:04:18 > 0:04:24snowflakes together to throw from the sky in the cold winter weather.

0:04:27 > 0:04:31Wow! I'm so pleased that Princess Ellie managed to save the day.

0:04:31 > 0:04:34Aren't you? Aren't you?

0:04:34 > 0:04:36And remember, the next time it's snowy,

0:04:36 > 0:04:40look up into the clouds and you might just see the Snow Queen

0:04:40 > 0:04:43and Princess Ellie making snowflakes together!

0:04:43 > 0:04:48I'll see you all soon for another bedtime story. Goodnight.
