0:29:13 > 0:29:16What about this cupboard?

0:29:16 > 0:29:17No.

0:29:18 > 0:29:20Oh, hello. I'm Mackenzie.

0:29:20 > 0:29:24I'm looking for something exciting in the kitchen cupboards.

0:29:24 > 0:29:28Not sure what, but I want to find something fantastic,

0:29:28 > 0:29:30not just tins of food or paint.

0:29:30 > 0:29:34Flinn, in tonight's bedtime story finds something amazing

0:29:34 > 0:29:37in the school cupboard. Shall we find out?

0:29:37 > 0:29:40The story is by Giles Andreae and Russell Ayto

0:29:40 > 0:29:44and is called Captain Flinn And The Pirate Dinosaurs.

0:29:44 > 0:29:47This is Flinn. He's wearing his pirate T-shirt

0:29:47 > 0:29:50and colouring in a picture he's drawn of a dinosaur.

0:29:50 > 0:29:52Flinn loves dinosaurs.

0:29:52 > 0:29:56One day at school Flinn was colouring in a dinosaur picture

0:29:56 > 0:29:58but he didn't have enough pens.

0:29:58 > 0:30:02"Have a look in the art cupboard," said his teacher,

0:30:02 > 0:30:04"There are more colours at the back."

0:30:04 > 0:30:08So Flinn opened the door and stepped into the cupboard.

0:30:08 > 0:30:13There were lots of paints and rolls of paper and pots of glue,

0:30:13 > 0:30:15but Flinn couldn't see any pens.

0:30:15 > 0:30:19As he searched he heard a noise, "Boo hoo, boo, hoo, hoo,"

0:30:19 > 0:30:22and then, "sniffle, sniffle, sniffle."

0:30:22 > 0:30:26Right at the back of the cupboard, under an old curtain

0:30:26 > 0:30:30was something shaking and shuddering like a giant jelly.

0:30:30 > 0:30:31Flinn crept closer.

0:30:31 > 0:30:35When he lifted up the curtain he couldn't believe his eyes.

0:30:35 > 0:30:37It was a real pirate captain!

0:30:37 > 0:30:40"Hello," said Flinn, "what's the matter?"

0:30:40 > 0:30:44The pirate, Captain Stubble, sniffed and looked at Flinn.

0:30:44 > 0:30:49"My ship! They've stolen my ship!" he sobbed.

0:30:49 > 0:30:53"One minute I was fast asleep, the next I was in the water

0:30:53 > 0:30:56"watching my ship, The Acorn, sail away."

0:30:56 > 0:31:00"Who's stolen it?" asked Flinn. "I don't know," said Captain Stubble,

0:31:00 > 0:31:05"but as I watched I heard a roar and then a strange kind of song.

0:31:05 > 0:31:13"It went, 'Yo-ho-ho, yo-ho-ho, somethingy something, go, go, go.'"

0:31:13 > 0:31:17"Hmm, very strange," said Flinn. "How will you get your ship back?"

0:31:17 > 0:31:22"I don't know," blustered Captain Stubble, "I can't do it on my own."

0:31:22 > 0:31:25"I could help," said Flinn bravely. "And so will we!"

0:31:25 > 0:31:29It was Flinn's friends, Pearl, Tom and Violet.

0:31:29 > 0:31:31"We love adventures," they said.

0:31:31 > 0:31:34At that moment the back of the cupboard fell away

0:31:34 > 0:31:37and they tumbled out into a bright blue day,

0:31:37 > 0:31:40where an old pirate ship was waiting.

0:31:40 > 0:31:44"She's not what I'm used to," said Captain Stubble,

0:31:44 > 0:31:47"but if this ship helps me find my beloved Acorn, she'll do.

0:31:47 > 0:31:51"All aboard! Right, me hearties," said Captain Stubble,

0:31:51 > 0:31:54"you'll need to look like pirates."

0:31:54 > 0:31:57Flinn brandished the gleaming silver cutlass.

0:31:57 > 0:32:01"Since you seem to be so brave, Flinn," he said,

0:32:01 > 0:32:04"you can be captain of this ship. I'd rather be the cook."

0:32:04 > 0:32:10So Captain Flinn took over and they sailed and sailed and sailed

0:32:10 > 0:32:12in search of The Acorn.

0:32:12 > 0:32:14The pirates were about to give up hope,

0:32:14 > 0:32:19when Pirate Violet shouted from the Crow's Nest, "Ship ahoy!"

0:32:19 > 0:32:24Stubble grabbed his telescope. "That's my precious Acorn!" he cried.

0:32:24 > 0:32:26"Let's board," cried Captain Flinn.

0:32:26 > 0:32:30"Reclaim your ship from those baddies. All hands on deck!"

0:32:30 > 0:32:34They sailed faster and faster and got closer and closer.

0:32:34 > 0:32:39When they were near, Captain Flinn put the telescope to his eye.

0:32:39 > 0:32:41His face went white.

0:32:41 > 0:32:45"They're not just ordinary pirates," he stammered.

0:32:45 > 0:32:47"They're...pirate dinosaurs!"

0:32:47 > 0:32:50And that is exactly what they were.

0:32:50 > 0:32:53A pirate diplodocus, a pirate stegosaurus,

0:32:53 > 0:32:57a pirate triceratops, and a pirate pterodactyl.

0:32:57 > 0:33:02And right at the helm of the ship, steering with its claws on the wheel,

0:33:02 > 0:33:07was a great big pirate Tyrannosaurus rex.

0:33:07 > 0:33:11When he saw Captain Flinn he roared an almighty roar.

0:33:11 > 0:33:14The dinosaurs sang out in their terrible voices...

0:33:14 > 0:33:17# Yo-ho-ho Yo-ho-ho

0:33:17 > 0:33:20# Pirate dinosaurs go, go, go! #

0:33:20 > 0:33:24"Attack!" cried Captain Flinn and a great battle began.

0:33:26 > 0:33:29Clash, clang, swish, splash!

0:33:29 > 0:33:34It wasn't long before all the pirate dinosaurs jumped overboard in terror,

0:33:34 > 0:33:37all except the Tyrannosaurus rex.

0:33:37 > 0:33:39He roared an almighty roar.

0:33:39 > 0:33:43Captain Flinn could see his huge sharp yellow teeth,

0:33:43 > 0:33:47his tonsils wobbling ferociously at the back of his throat.

0:33:47 > 0:33:51"I challenge you to a duel," shouted Captain Flinn.

0:33:51 > 0:33:53"I'm gonna cut you up into pirate sausages,"

0:33:53 > 0:33:56yelled the Tyrannosaurus rex, dribbling.

0:33:56 > 0:33:59"Then I'm going to put you on the barbeque

0:33:59 > 0:34:03"and eat you with much too much tomato ketchup," he added.

0:34:03 > 0:34:07"Oh, no, you're not!" yelled Captain Flinn and charged.

0:34:07 > 0:34:11Their cutlasses flashed and crashed and bashed and smashed

0:34:11 > 0:34:13for at least two hours and 25 minutes

0:34:13 > 0:34:17until finally the Tyrannosaurus rex was exhausted.

0:34:17 > 0:34:20"Captain Flinn," he stammered, "I surrender.

0:34:20 > 0:34:22"You're such a great pirate

0:34:22 > 0:34:26"that you should be captain of the pirate dinosaurs.

0:34:26 > 0:34:30"Spare me and I'll be the goodest goody in the world. Honest."

0:34:30 > 0:34:33"Maybe one day I'll be your captain," replied Captain Flinn,

0:34:33 > 0:34:37"but now we'd better get back to school. It's almost lunchtime."

0:34:37 > 0:34:40So Captain Flinn took the wheel of The Acorn

0:34:40 > 0:34:44and while pirate Pearl, pirate Tom and pirate Violet untied the crew,

0:34:44 > 0:34:47Stubble made a delicious shark's fin stew.

0:34:47 > 0:34:51They got to the harbour and waved goodbye to Captain Stubble

0:34:51 > 0:34:52and the Tyrannosaurus rex.

0:34:52 > 0:34:56Flinn saw that the door they had fallen through was still open.

0:34:56 > 0:34:59They clambered in and were back among the paints,

0:34:59 > 0:35:01rolls of paper and pots of glue.

0:35:01 > 0:35:03Flinn grabbed some colouring pens

0:35:03 > 0:35:06and they all crept back into the classroom.

0:35:06 > 0:35:09"They all lived happily ever after," said Miss Pike,

0:35:09 > 0:35:11closing the book she'd been reading.

0:35:11 > 0:35:14"You've been in the cupboard a long time, Flinn.

0:35:14 > 0:35:16"What were you doing?"

0:35:16 > 0:35:18Flinn smiled secretly at his friends.

0:35:18 > 0:35:21"Nothing," he said. "Nothing at all."

0:35:21 > 0:35:26That story was called Captain Flinn And The Pirate Dinosaurs.

0:35:26 > 0:35:31There must be something exciting in these cupboards. I'll keep searching.

0:35:31 > 0:35:34While I do, it's time for you to go to bed.

0:35:34 > 0:35:37I'll see you soon for another story. Night-night.

0:35:38 > 0:35:41Ah! A pirate sword.

0:35:41 > 0:35:43Let's see what else I can find.
