0:14:50 > 0:14:57.
0:15:05 > 0:15:09Hello. I'm Michael. Handrew and me are playing a game.
0:15:09 > 0:15:13I say something, and Handrew does the opposite. You watch.
0:15:13 > 0:15:14Up!
0:15:15 > 0:15:20That's right, Handrew! Down is the opposite of up.
0:15:20 > 0:15:21Here's another one.
0:15:21 > 0:15:23Straight!
0:15:24 > 0:15:29That's right, too! Curvy is the opposite of straight.
0:15:29 > 0:15:34Well, in tonight's bedtime story, Nate meets an Opposite,
0:15:34 > 0:15:38who seems determined to get him into trouble.
0:15:38 > 0:15:41The story is called The Opposite.
0:15:41 > 0:15:44When Nate woke up one morning,
0:15:44 > 0:15:51the Opposite was standing on his ceiling staring down at him.
0:15:51 > 0:15:56"You can't stand on the ceiling!" said Nate. "Get down!"
0:15:56 > 0:16:03But the opposite happened, and it stayed where it was.
0:16:03 > 0:16:08"Dad!" cried Nate. "There's an Opposite on my ceiling!"
0:16:08 > 0:16:13"Where?" said Nate's dad, poking his head round the door.
0:16:13 > 0:16:16"There!" said Nate, pointing upwards.
0:16:16 > 0:16:21But the opposite had already happened,
0:16:21 > 0:16:23and it wasn't there any more.
0:16:23 > 0:16:26"Come on, Nate," said Nate's dad,
0:16:26 > 0:16:30"you don't usually make up stories to stay in bed."
0:16:30 > 0:16:34Nate came downstairs to start his breakfast.
0:16:34 > 0:16:38His mum poured out a bowlful of cornflakes.
0:16:38 > 0:16:42"You can do the milk yourself." she said. Nate always did this,
0:16:42 > 0:16:45it was one of the things he was best at.
0:16:45 > 0:16:51Nate took the milk in both hands and gently poured it over the cereal...
0:16:51 > 0:16:54but then the opposite happened.
0:16:54 > 0:17:01Instead of the milk pouring down, it poured up! Splashing all over
0:17:01 > 0:17:05the ceiling, then dripping down again all over the tablecloth.
0:17:05 > 0:17:08The Opposite grinned in the corner.
0:17:08 > 0:17:14"Oh, Nate!" said Nate's mum. "Look what you've done!"
0:17:14 > 0:17:20"It wasn't me!" cried Nate. "It was the Opposite, over there."
0:17:20 > 0:17:22And Nate pointed at the corner.
0:17:22 > 0:17:25But the opposite had already happened,
0:17:25 > 0:17:28and it wasn't there any more.
0:17:28 > 0:17:35"Come on, Nate," said Nate's mum, "you're not usually so clumsy."
0:17:35 > 0:17:40Nate walked into school and got ready for the first lesson.
0:17:40 > 0:17:42Nate's teacher asked the children
0:17:42 > 0:17:46to paint a picture of their favourite animal.
0:17:46 > 0:17:48Nate decided to paint an elephant.
0:17:48 > 0:17:53He took out his paint and paper and brush and made a start.
0:17:53 > 0:17:56But then the opposite happened.
0:17:56 > 0:18:01Instead of the paint going on the paper it went on Nate's head!
0:18:01 > 0:18:05Then on the floor, then on the walls, and then on his teacher!
0:18:05 > 0:18:09The paint went everywhere except on the paper
0:18:09 > 0:18:14which stayed as blank and clean as ever. The Opposite giggled
0:18:14 > 0:18:20from under the teacher's desk, right by the teacher's legs.
0:18:20 > 0:18:26"Oh, Nate," said Nate's teacher, "you're not usually so messy."
0:18:26 > 0:18:32"It wasn't me!" cried Nate. "It was the Opposite, under there."
0:18:32 > 0:18:35And Nate pointed at the teacher's desk,
0:18:35 > 0:18:38but the opposite had already happened,
0:18:38 > 0:18:40and it wasn't there any more.
0:18:40 > 0:18:44Nate stopped, and thought for a moment.
0:18:45 > 0:18:49Then he had an idea.
0:18:49 > 0:18:55Slowly, he pointed at the empty space in front of him.
0:18:57 > 0:19:03"I mean to say," said Nate, "that there isn't an Opposite
0:19:03 > 0:19:07"standing right in front of my finger."
0:19:07 > 0:19:09But then the opposite happened.
0:19:09 > 0:19:15Suddenly the Opposite WAS standing right in front of Nate,
0:19:15 > 0:19:20it blinked with surprise and looked a little worried.
0:19:20 > 0:19:27"I mean to say," said Nate, "that the work I've done today...
0:19:27 > 0:19:31"is messy, and untidy."
0:19:31 > 0:19:35But then the opposite happened. The Opposite bared its teeth.
0:19:35 > 0:19:38"Grr!" But it was too late.
0:19:38 > 0:19:44Nate's painting was now as tidy and perfect as you please.
0:19:44 > 0:19:50"And," said Nate, smiling, "I mean to say...
0:19:50 > 0:19:58"that I have so enjoyed having the Opposite with me today,
0:19:58 > 0:20:04"and I do hope it will stay around for ever and ever and ever!"
0:20:04 > 0:20:08But then the opposite happened. With a shriek... "Eek!"
0:20:08 > 0:20:12..and a hiss, the Opposite disappeared
0:20:12 > 0:20:16in a puff of green and yellow smoke.
0:20:16 > 0:20:17And that was that.
0:20:17 > 0:20:22Very quickly Nate's teacher and the rest of Nate's class
0:20:22 > 0:20:26persuaded themselves that they had never seen the Opposite
0:20:26 > 0:20:31and none of it had ever happened. But Nate knew what had happened.
0:20:31 > 0:20:34And now you do, too.
0:20:34 > 0:20:39And if you ever meet an Opposite, you'll know how to deal with it.
0:20:39 > 0:20:43The next morning, when Nate woke up,
0:20:43 > 0:20:50the Opposite was standing on the ceiling, staring down at him.
0:20:50 > 0:20:53"Oh good," said Nate.
0:20:53 > 0:20:59"I hope this story goes on for ever and EVER...
0:20:59 > 0:21:02"The end!"
0:21:02 > 0:21:06And that story was called The Opposite.
0:21:06 > 0:21:10You know, I think it would be really interesting to meet the Opposite.
0:21:10 > 0:21:15Oh, I wish that today went on for ever and ever.
0:21:15 > 0:21:18What? What's that, Handrew?
0:21:18 > 0:21:24Oh, I see. Handrew's pretending to be the Opposite and telling me
0:21:24 > 0:21:29that today can't go on forever because it's time to go to bed.
0:21:30 > 0:21:35But I'll see you soon for another story. Good night.
0:21:35 > 0:21:39Now, Handrew, I know another opposite.
0:21:39 > 0:21:43If you stay there, you're near.
0:21:43 > 0:21:46But if I go over here...
0:21:48 > 0:21:51I'm far, but the moment I say far,
0:21:51 > 0:21:54then the opposite is coming back right here! Yeah! See?
