0:00:03 > 0:00:05CBeebies Bedtime Story.
0:00:08 > 0:00:10I wonder if you're hiding round here.
0:00:10 > 0:00:12Oh, hello. I'm Shelley.
0:00:12 > 0:00:16I'm looking for one of the birds that's in tonight's Bedtime Story.
0:00:16 > 0:00:18She's yellow and she goes "quack".
0:00:18 > 0:00:20Do you know what kind of bird I'm looking for?
0:00:20 > 0:00:22That's right. It's a duck.
0:00:23 > 0:00:26But I'm looking for a very special little duck called Celestine.
0:00:26 > 0:00:29Sometimes she's just a little shy, like in tonight's story.
0:00:29 > 0:00:32It's by Penny Ives and it's called Celestine Drama Queen.
0:00:34 > 0:00:36Even before Celestine had hatched from her egg,
0:00:36 > 0:00:40the Duck family knew there was someone very special inside.
0:00:40 > 0:00:44"Tappity-tap. Tappity-tap" went the egg,
0:00:44 > 0:00:46until one day, crack!
0:00:46 > 0:00:48Out danced Celestine ready to be a star.
0:00:48 > 0:00:52Right from the start, Celestine was very hard to ignore.
0:00:52 > 0:00:55As soon as she was old enough, Celestine would dress herself
0:00:55 > 0:00:58with great care, just as a real star should.
0:00:58 > 0:01:02Sometimes it took rather a long time to create just the right look.
0:01:04 > 0:01:06One morning, Celestine swept into breakfast
0:01:06 > 0:01:08wearing her latest creation.
0:01:08 > 0:01:13"Oh, Mummy, you know stars only eat pink food," she sighed,
0:01:13 > 0:01:15as she looked at her cereal.
0:01:15 > 0:01:19"Do you think you should be wearing a tiara to school, Celestine?"
0:01:19 > 0:01:23Mother asked. "Of course. A star must set an example,"
0:01:23 > 0:01:26said Celestine, skipping out of the door.
0:01:26 > 0:01:29At school, Miss McDonald called the register.
0:01:29 > 0:01:31"Archie?" "Yes, Miss McDonald."
0:01:31 > 0:01:34"Beatie?" "Yes, Miss McDonald."
0:01:34 > 0:01:36"Celestine?"
0:01:36 > 0:01:38"Celestine's not here," answered Celestine.
0:01:38 > 0:01:42"Today, you may call me Princess Druscilla Drake.
0:01:42 > 0:01:45"It's a much better name for a star, don't you think?"
0:01:45 > 0:01:48"Well, Princess Druscilla Drake," said her teacher.
0:01:48 > 0:01:52"This morning, we all have the chance to be someone else.
0:01:52 > 0:01:55"We're going to begin rehearsals for our school play."
0:01:55 > 0:02:01"I would be delighted to accept the lead role," beamed Celestine, twirling round the room.
0:02:01 > 0:02:04"Thank you, Celestine," said Miss McDonald.
0:02:04 > 0:02:06"There's an important part for everyone."
0:02:06 > 0:02:10On the way home that afternoon, Celestine sighed,
0:02:10 > 0:02:16"Stars don't walk, they should ride, especially when they've got the best part in a new play."
0:02:16 > 0:02:19"And what is your part?" asked her brother.
0:02:19 > 0:02:24"That's a secret," smiled Celestine, tap-dancing along the pavement.
0:02:24 > 0:02:27After tea, Celestine rushed straight to her room.
0:02:27 > 0:02:33"I have to rehearse for the play now, Mummy," she shouted, slamming her bedroom door shut.
0:02:33 > 0:02:37"Shall I hear your lines, Celestine?" called her mother through the door a little later.
0:02:37 > 0:02:40"No, thank you," Celestine called back cheerfully.
0:02:40 > 0:02:42"They're very nearly perfect."
0:02:42 > 0:02:46"Shall I help you practise?" asked her brother the following day.
0:02:46 > 0:02:50"No, thank you," said Celestine. "I know every word."
0:02:51 > 0:02:53The day of the play came at last.
0:02:53 > 0:02:56Celestine breezed jauntily into her classroom
0:02:56 > 0:02:58blowing kisses into the air.
0:02:58 > 0:03:01"How kind," she thought, noticing some flowers nearby.
0:03:01 > 0:03:03"Someone has sent me a bouquet.
0:03:03 > 0:03:08"But where is my red carpet?" she wondered, walking down to the hall.
0:03:08 > 0:03:11"And the rest of the orchestra's late," she frowned,
0:03:11 > 0:03:13seeing only Mrs Gobble at her keyboard.
0:03:13 > 0:03:15The moment had arrived.
0:03:15 > 0:03:18All the little chicks and ducks huddled backstage.
0:03:18 > 0:03:21The lights dimmed, the audience grew quiet,
0:03:21 > 0:03:23and the show began.
0:03:24 > 0:03:27Celestine watched, trembling behind the side curtains,
0:03:27 > 0:03:30whispering along with every word.
0:03:30 > 0:03:33"Time for you to go on now, dear," smiled Miss McDonald.
0:03:33 > 0:03:36But suddenly Celestine's feet wouldn't work.
0:03:36 > 0:03:37She was terrified.
0:03:38 > 0:03:41"I feel sick," she coughed weakly.
0:03:41 > 0:03:43"I'm going to faint," she gasped.
0:03:43 > 0:03:47"I won't, I shan't, I can't," she squeaked.
0:03:48 > 0:03:50Miss McDonald gently pushed her forward.
0:03:50 > 0:03:53Celestine inched to the centre of the stage,
0:03:53 > 0:03:55her heart beating madly.
0:03:55 > 0:03:57Pitter-pat, pitter-pat.
0:03:57 > 0:03:59She blinked at the bright lights.
0:03:59 > 0:04:03She opened her beak. But nothing came out.
0:04:03 > 0:04:06Celestine stood quite still.
0:04:06 > 0:04:08She couldn't move a feather.
0:04:09 > 0:04:12"The end," whispered Miss McDonald from behind the curtain.
0:04:12 > 0:04:18"Celestine, say your line, say 'The end.'"
0:04:18 > 0:04:24Then Mrs Gobble flew to her rescue striking up one last, fast jazzy tune on the piano.
0:04:24 > 0:04:28Quite of their own accord, Celestine's feet began to tap.
0:04:28 > 0:04:32Her knees bent and soon she was whirling and turning,
0:04:32 > 0:04:34skipping and spinning, until with one final leap,
0:04:34 > 0:04:38she fell to the floor, a dizzy yellow triumph.
0:04:38 > 0:04:41Fantastic! Encore!
0:04:41 > 0:04:43Hurrah! Superb!
0:04:43 > 0:04:44Brilliant!
0:04:44 > 0:04:46The audience loved it.
0:04:46 > 0:04:50"Well done," they cheered, clapping and clapping.
0:04:50 > 0:04:53They all agreed it was a splendid end to a wonderful show.
0:04:53 > 0:04:58But walking home, Celestine was unusually quiet and thoughtful.
0:04:58 > 0:05:02Flip-flop. Flip-flop, flapped her little feet.
0:05:04 > 0:05:08"I'm still a star, aren't I, Mummy? Even though I forgot my lines,"
0:05:08 > 0:05:11she asked at bedtime, a big tear dripping down her beak.
0:05:11 > 0:05:14"Of course you are, my darling," said Mrs Duck,
0:05:14 > 0:05:17buttoning up Celestine's pyjamas.
0:05:17 > 0:05:21"Just think of that marvellous dance you did. And besides,
0:05:21 > 0:05:24"you'll always be a star to me."
0:05:24 > 0:05:30And the gave Celestine a kiss. "Goodnight, my little star, goodnight."
0:05:30 > 0:05:32And that story was called Celestine Drama Queen.
0:05:32 > 0:05:36Maybe Celestine's forgotten that I wanted her to tell you it was the end.
0:05:36 > 0:05:41So, I'll just have to say goodnight myself and I'll see you soon for another story.
0:05:41 > 0:05:44Now, where are you, Celestine?
0:05:45 > 0:05:47Where's she got to?
