0:14:02 > 0:14:05CBeebies Bedtime Story.
0:14:05 > 0:14:07SQUAWKING
0:14:07 > 0:14:09What was that?
0:14:09 > 0:14:11Hello. I'm Shelly.
0:14:11 > 0:14:13Can you hear that sound?
0:14:13 > 0:14:15You can?
0:14:15 > 0:14:19Do you know what it is? No, I don't either.
0:14:19 > 0:14:22Sheep go "baa",
0:14:22 > 0:14:24cows go "moo"
0:14:24 > 0:14:27and horses go "nay"
0:14:27 > 0:14:30but I don't know what makes a sound like that.
0:14:30 > 0:14:33There's a strange sound in tonight's story.
0:14:33 > 0:14:37It's by Julie Sykes and Melanie Williamson
0:14:37 > 0:14:39and it's called That Pesky Dragon.
0:14:39 > 0:14:41Izzy's dad had a farm
0:14:41 > 0:14:45and on that farm there were a herd of cows,
0:14:45 > 0:14:47a goat, a flock of sheep,
0:14:47 > 0:14:51a brood of hens, three cats, two dogs and a dragon.
0:14:51 > 0:14:54It didn't take everyone long to realise
0:14:54 > 0:14:59there was a dragon on the farm. Its roar gave it away.
0:14:59 > 0:15:03When Izzy stood on tiptoes and peered out of the window,
0:15:03 > 0:15:07she could see the dragon's tail on the hill, by the well.
0:15:07 > 0:15:09"Can we go and look at it?" asked Izzy.
0:15:09 > 0:15:14"Certainly not!" said dad. "Dragons are far too dangerous.
0:15:14 > 0:15:17"If we leave it alone, it'll be gone by tomorrow."
0:15:17 > 0:15:21But the next morning, it was the roar of the dragon
0:15:21 > 0:15:23that woke Izzy up.
0:15:23 > 0:15:24"Rrooaarr!"
0:15:24 > 0:15:27"It's still here then," thought Izzy
0:15:27 > 0:15:30but she was shocked when she collected the eggs.
0:15:30 > 0:15:35"These eggs feel rock hard," said Izzy as she shivered.
0:15:35 > 0:15:39"It's that pesky dragon," said Grandpa angrily.
0:15:39 > 0:15:42"His fiery breath has hard-boiled the eggs."
0:15:42 > 0:15:45Izzy was desperate to look at the dragon.
0:15:45 > 0:15:49Mum said, "That dragon's mean. You can tell from it's roar."
0:15:49 > 0:15:55"I think it sounds sad," said Izzy. "Can't I have a tiny peek?"
0:15:55 > 0:15:57"Rrooaarr!"
0:15:57 > 0:16:01"Definitely not," said Mum. "Go indoors and it'll fly away."
0:16:01 > 0:16:03But it didn't fly away.
0:16:03 > 0:16:07That afternoon, when Izzy helped Mum milk the cows,
0:16:07 > 0:16:09they were in for another shock.
0:16:09 > 0:16:12"Yoghurt?" cried Izzy. "Oh, dear," said Mum.
0:16:12 > 0:16:15"It's that pesky dragon's fault!"
0:16:15 > 0:16:19"It has scared the cows and turned their milk to yoghurt!"
0:16:19 > 0:16:20"Rrooaarr!"
0:16:20 > 0:16:24The next morning, it was the light of the dragon's fiery breath,
0:16:24 > 0:16:27and not the rising sun, that woke Izzy.
0:16:27 > 0:16:30A lovely smell was drifting up the stairs.
0:16:30 > 0:16:34"Mm, toast!" cried Izzy, sliding down the banister.
0:16:34 > 0:16:38"It's not toast, it's my prize wheat," Dad said bitterly.
0:16:38 > 0:16:41"That pesky dragon burnt a field in the night.
0:16:41 > 0:16:44"I'm phoning Remove-a-dragon."
0:16:44 > 0:16:47"Not Remove-a-dragon!" shrieked Izzy.
0:16:47 > 0:16:50"Why don't you ask the dragon to leave?"
0:16:50 > 0:16:55"It's far too dangerous," said Dad. "It's fierce. Listen to its roar!"
0:16:55 > 0:16:59"It sounds hurt, not fierce, if you ask me," said Izzy.
0:16:59 > 0:17:02"Run along, while I make this call," said Dad.
0:17:02 > 0:17:06So Izzy ran out of the farmhouse, past the chicken shed,
0:17:06 > 0:17:10and all the way up the hill towards the dragon.
0:17:10 > 0:17:14Suddenly Izzy grew scared. What if the dragon was dangerous?
0:17:14 > 0:17:18What if it was hungry? What if it ate girls for breakfast?
0:17:18 > 0:17:21She panicked but it was too late.
0:17:21 > 0:17:26The dragon had already seen her. Izzy took a brave step forward.
0:17:26 > 0:17:30She could see the scales on its tail and feel the heat of its breath.
0:17:30 > 0:17:34But the big, scary dragon was just a tiny dragon
0:17:34 > 0:17:37trapped in the well, crying for help.
0:17:37 > 0:17:41"I've been shouting for help for days", cried the dragon.
0:17:41 > 0:17:45Izzy fetched Mum, Dad, Grandpa and Remove-a-dragon lady to help.
0:17:45 > 0:17:49"They look scary", sniffed the dragon, as they came towards him.
0:17:49 > 0:17:51"Don't worry," said Izzy.
0:17:51 > 0:17:55"Don't breath, otherwise you might singe us."
0:17:55 > 0:17:59The dragon held his breath while Izzy, and everyone,
0:17:59 > 0:18:01pulled and pulled until...
0:18:01 > 0:18:04Pop! The dragon was free!
0:18:04 > 0:18:09Now Izzy's dad has a farm with a herd of cows, a goat,
0:18:09 > 0:18:15a flock of sheep, a brood of hens, three cats, two dogs and a dragon.
0:18:15 > 0:18:17Izzy loves cold mornings.
0:18:17 > 0:18:21With a dragon around, there's always hot milk, hard-boiled eggs
0:18:21 > 0:18:23and toast for breakfast.
0:18:23 > 0:18:26That story was called That Pesky Dragon.
0:18:26 > 0:18:29Do you think it's a dragon making that sound?
0:18:29 > 0:18:31Let's look around.
0:18:31 > 0:18:35While I find out, it's time for you to go to bed.
0:18:35 > 0:18:39I'll see you soon for another story. Night-night.
