0:01:48 > 0:01:50ALL: YEAH!

0:01:50 > 0:01:52Coming up on Day Four at Driving Academy...

0:01:52 > 0:01:56Massive donuts as the teams' driving skills are put to the test

0:01:56 > 0:01:58in our Skid Stars Challenge.

0:01:58 > 0:02:02The more controlled our teams can drive, the more points they'll get.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05But first, our rookies need to learn how to drive

0:02:05 > 0:02:07in really hazardous conditions.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16All week, our rookies have been learning how to drive

0:02:16 > 0:02:19with elite driving instructor, Vicky Lovell.

0:02:19 > 0:02:20With over 25 years' experience,

0:02:20 > 0:02:24she's one of the country's top tutors.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26We're well away from the public, on private roads

0:02:26 > 0:02:28and Vicky has a set of dual controls,

0:02:28 > 0:02:32so our rookies are always in safe hands.

0:02:32 > 0:02:33To win today's Superskills,

0:02:33 > 0:02:37our teams have to learn to deal with hazardous driving conditions.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40We've taught them how to react to hazards,

0:02:40 > 0:02:43but what's better still is to spot them coming in the first place

0:02:43 > 0:02:46and not be involved in them.

0:02:49 > 0:02:52Vicky's starting our rookies off by teaching them

0:02:52 > 0:02:54how to cope with the unexpected.

0:02:54 > 0:02:57Our lesson today is all about hazards.

0:02:57 > 0:03:01Tia's looking well nervous and it's no wonder.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04The last thing anyone expects on the road

0:03:04 > 0:03:06is two live crash test dummies, armed to the eyeholes

0:03:06 > 0:03:09with water balloons!

0:03:09 > 0:03:11Here it comes!

0:03:18 > 0:03:21Did you just put your hand up when you were driving?

0:03:21 > 0:03:24Those dummies are doing their best to put Tia off.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26She really needs to concentrate.

0:03:26 > 0:03:30Something that mum, Nina, had trouble with on Day 1's test course

0:03:34 > 0:03:37Oh, you've completely blown it for me now!

0:03:37 > 0:03:40Wait till I get hold of you!

0:03:40 > 0:03:45Lucy's next to face the dastardly dummies and they mean business.

0:03:46 > 0:03:48Leave me alone!

0:03:48 > 0:03:53Unfortunately, "Leave me alone!" doesn't make hazards go away, Lucy!

0:03:53 > 0:03:55Dangerous situations can arise at any time,

0:03:55 > 0:03:58as dad, Brian, found out yesterday when, carelessly,

0:03:58 > 0:04:01he blew out his tyre during the Superskills challenge.

0:04:01 > 0:04:03Oh, wow!

0:04:03 > 0:04:06Luckily, Brian wasn't going fast, but a burst tyre at speed

0:04:06 > 0:04:09can be disastrous and no laughing matter.

0:04:09 > 0:04:12Neither is getting pelted by water balloons

0:04:12 > 0:04:14by a crazy crew of crash test dummies!

0:04:14 > 0:04:16- Look out, Tom!- Hey, guys!

0:04:16 > 0:04:18Straight line towards the blue car.

0:04:18 > 0:04:23- You're rubbish!- Oh, that one wasn't rubbish, was it?

0:04:23 > 0:04:26Tom's got it spot on, remaining calm

0:04:26 > 0:04:29and keeping his speed in check, which is more than we can say

0:04:29 > 0:04:33about his dad, Turbo Todd's performance, on Day Two.

0:04:33 > 0:04:36- You were too late!- Yep.

0:04:36 > 0:04:39I told you to stop way earlier than that!

0:04:39 > 0:04:42Our rookies are learning to expect the unexpected,

0:04:42 > 0:04:47but this lesson's about to be thrown into a spin by this fella.

0:04:47 > 0:04:49Jim Hawkins is the go to man

0:04:49 > 0:04:54when it comes to training people how to handle lethal road conditions.

0:04:54 > 0:04:56He has trained emergency services all over the world,

0:04:56 > 0:04:59using the super hi-tech rig you can see attached

0:04:59 > 0:05:02to the bottom of the car. So, Jim, how does it work?

0:05:02 > 0:05:05What it does, it lifts the car as you're driving it,

0:05:05 > 0:05:08so it takes grip away from the car,

0:05:08 > 0:05:14so it can simulate you going from a wet road to black ice in seconds.

0:05:14 > 0:05:17Our teams will be driving this ACTUAL skid car later on,

0:05:17 > 0:05:21so Jim needs to get our rookies up to speed with the right techniques.

0:05:21 > 0:05:24What we are going to do first is show you the right way to do it.

0:05:24 > 0:05:27OK, and you can pass that onto your parents as well.

0:05:27 > 0:05:30What our rookies learn here now, is vital

0:05:30 > 0:05:33- to their Superskills success later. - So, this is nice and steady.

0:05:33 > 0:05:36You can see he's got full control there. OK?

0:05:36 > 0:05:39What he's going to start to do is now accelerate.

0:05:39 > 0:05:41Accelerating, there it goes.

0:05:44 > 0:05:47So you can see it doesn't need a lot more,

0:05:47 > 0:05:49a lot of acceleration. OK?

0:05:49 > 0:05:54What I'm going to do now is show you if we do it wrong, what happens.

0:05:54 > 0:05:57OK, so we are going to lose it completely.

0:06:10 > 0:06:14My face feels like it's just... I feel like I've had botox!

0:06:14 > 0:06:17You don't feel it, because you are going around so fast,

0:06:17 > 0:06:21- it's just like, wow!- It just kept on going round and round and round.

0:06:21 > 0:06:22Ew!

0:06:22 > 0:06:25Feeling a bit sick is a small price to pay for all those top tips

0:06:25 > 0:06:28our rookies will now be able to share with their parents.

0:06:28 > 0:06:32Well, the top tip that I got from my daughter

0:06:32 > 0:06:35was, "I can't remember anything Jim told me, Mum!"

0:06:35 > 0:06:38"Your on your own!" Thanks, Tia!

0:06:38 > 0:06:42Well! It's no wonder you can't remember anything, Tia!

0:06:42 > 0:06:46I'm feeling sick and I'm not even in the car!

0:06:46 > 0:06:49If that wasn't enough to make your head spin, still to come...

0:06:49 > 0:06:52Mr C comes a cropper again...

0:06:52 > 0:06:55A delicious slice of the Pieway Code quiz...

0:06:55 > 0:06:59And today's losers will be taking the Wash of Shame!

0:07:01 > 0:07:04Today's Superskill is all about hazards

0:07:04 > 0:07:06and how to handle them safely.

0:07:06 > 0:07:09Our special skid car has been rigged to behave

0:07:09 > 0:07:13as though you are driving in icy conditions.

0:07:13 > 0:07:16Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy ride.

0:07:22 > 0:07:25This is Skid Stars!

0:07:25 > 0:07:29Our drivers will need to steer this hi-tech skid car

0:07:29 > 0:07:32across our games arena, bursting numbered balloons

0:07:32 > 0:07:34in the correct order, from one to nine.

0:07:34 > 0:07:36Teams get three minutes to complete the course.

0:07:36 > 0:07:40That's 90 seconds each, swapping half way through.

0:07:40 > 0:07:43As ever, our Chief Driving Examiner, Sandra Dodson,

0:07:43 > 0:07:45will be casting a critical eye on all the action.

0:07:45 > 0:07:49The people in that car are learning how to control the car

0:07:49 > 0:07:53on simulated conditions, such as wet roads and ice.

0:07:53 > 0:07:57When you are out in the real world this is a crucial part

0:07:57 > 0:08:03of your driving and if you get it wrong, it has tragic consequences.

0:08:05 > 0:08:07Cool cornering in icy conditions is vital

0:08:07 > 0:08:10and the team to burst the most balloons wins.

0:08:10 > 0:08:14It's going to be car-nage all the way!

0:08:14 > 0:08:16They're going to take those skills with them

0:08:16 > 0:08:20and they are going to respect driving in ice and rain forever.

0:08:23 > 0:08:24But before our teams get cracking,

0:08:24 > 0:08:27let's have a look at the Leader Board.

0:08:27 > 0:08:29The Blues, Brian and Lucy, are in the lead with seven points

0:08:29 > 0:08:32and hot on their wheels, in joint second place,

0:08:32 > 0:08:34are the Greens and the Oranges with six points each.

0:08:34 > 0:08:36It's all to play for!

0:08:41 > 0:08:45First up, we have Brian and Lucy. Come on, Blue team!

0:08:45 > 0:08:49Go for it. Go on, Luce, a bit more with the accelerator.

0:08:49 > 0:08:52Lucy's 90 seconds has started. The pressure's on!

0:08:52 > 0:08:55The wheel's turning! I didn't turn it! I didn't turn it!

0:08:55 > 0:08:57I know, that's what happens because it's skidding.

0:08:57 > 0:09:00But don't worry, turn hard down on my side.

0:09:00 > 0:09:03Take it nice and easy and go the other way

0:09:03 > 0:09:07And go the other way, go the other way, go, go go go.

0:09:07 > 0:09:12Brilliant! Well done, now see if you can turn it round.

0:09:12 > 0:09:13One for Lucy.

0:09:13 > 0:09:16But shutting your eyes while driving isn't the best idea!

0:09:16 > 0:09:18Now the tough bit, turning the car

0:09:18 > 0:09:20and getting lined up for the next balloon.

0:09:20 > 0:09:23You are heading over to number two. Turn it even harder your way.

0:09:23 > 0:09:27- Dad, you don't understand my fear. - I know, darling, you are skidding.

0:09:27 > 0:09:30- Only 35 seconds left... - A little bit my way

0:09:30 > 0:09:32- Dad, I think...- A little bit my way,

0:09:32 > 0:09:35Brilliant, you are on it, number three. Turn round, Luce.

0:09:35 > 0:09:37She's doing very well so far.

0:09:37 > 0:09:39- And we are...- 'Eight seconds'.

0:09:39 > 0:09:43So, go on, Luce, turn round.

0:09:43 > 0:09:46- Oh, I think I might...- No, that's fine, it's skidding, isn't it?

0:09:46 > 0:09:50- Well done, accelerate, accelerate. - No, I don't want to accelerate!

0:09:50 > 0:09:52- You'll be fine, you can do it. - I just want to go!

0:09:52 > 0:09:54You've got 15 seconds, see if we can get this.

0:09:54 > 0:09:58Black ice and speed isn't a good combination, Bri!

0:09:58 > 0:10:00You're doing really well, darling.

0:10:00 > 0:10:01Five, four, three, two...

0:10:04 > 0:10:06- Yes!- One!

0:10:06 > 0:10:08She's made it!

0:10:09 > 0:10:14Well done! Lucy, you done it, you got three!

0:10:14 > 0:10:16I was really proud of you, you really coped well.

0:10:16 > 0:10:19It was quite scary, because when I started,

0:10:19 > 0:10:23I thought, "I'll just go slow and it will be OK."

0:10:23 > 0:10:25The Blues have three balloons at half time.

0:10:25 > 0:10:2890 seconds now for Bri to try and increase their score.

0:10:28 > 0:10:32Can Dangerous Bri become Cautious Conelly'?

0:10:32 > 0:10:35Wa-hey! Here we go!

0:10:35 > 0:10:38- That'll be a no then. - Up to his tricks!

0:10:38 > 0:10:42Oh, dear, get out the way, get out the way, get out the way...

0:10:42 > 0:10:44- That's number four over there. - Sing a happy song...

0:10:44 > 0:10:46Oh dear, I'm going to have a spin...

0:10:46 > 0:10:51No different to your normal driving. No, just kidding, just kidding!

0:10:51 > 0:10:53He needs to chill out on that accelerator.

0:10:56 > 0:10:59Oh, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on!

0:10:59 > 0:11:0260 seconds left!

0:11:02 > 0:11:04We barely even started!

0:11:09 > 0:11:11Well done! Finally, Brian's got a grip!

0:11:11 > 0:11:14That's four, but the seconds are sliding away.

0:11:14 > 0:11:18Oh, I've stalled it.

0:11:18 > 0:11:21Let's sing a song, Dad. Oh la, la, la, la...

0:11:21 > 0:11:24It's like Car-mageddon out there!

0:11:24 > 0:11:26Brian's wasting loads of time by trying to rush it.

0:11:26 > 0:11:29Oh, blow, I can't even get anywhere NEAR it!

0:11:29 > 0:11:32# Happy birthday to... #

0:11:32 > 0:11:36- Look, no hands!- Don't take your hands off the wheel!

0:11:36 > 0:11:38Do you not know ANYTHING?

0:11:38 > 0:11:41It's not big and it's definitely not clever!

0:11:41 > 0:11:43- He's having trouble... - Come along, Brian!

0:11:43 > 0:11:47- ..getting his car on under control. - I think you are enjoying yourself!

0:11:49 > 0:11:52Five for the blues and time's almost up.

0:11:52 > 0:11:54- Five, four...- Oh my gosh!

0:11:54 > 0:11:57- Three, two, one. - SIREN BLARES

0:11:57 > 0:11:58'Time's up.'

0:11:58 > 0:12:01I know it's up, but I just want to do it again!

0:12:01 > 0:12:03Three balloons for Lucy and two for Brian,

0:12:03 > 0:12:07- making five for the Blues. - Here comes Joe Swash.

0:12:07 > 0:12:09What's happening, what's going on there?

0:12:09 > 0:12:12- Eh, it's difficult...- Is it a lot harder than it looks?

0:12:12 > 0:12:15It is, you want to go that way, but the car's going that way.

0:12:15 > 0:12:17I have to say that's the most I've enjoyed,

0:12:17 > 0:12:19I really, really enjoyed that.

0:12:19 > 0:12:21Well, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Luce, how was it for you?

0:12:21 > 0:12:24- It was the best task yet, I think. - Was it the best task?

0:12:24 > 0:12:27- That was a lot of fun. - Who got three?- You got three.

0:12:27 > 0:12:30- Who got two?- You got two, so you won! You beat Daddy!

0:12:30 > 0:12:34- Oh my!- Get in there! Loser, loser!

0:12:38 > 0:12:42- I feel I'm very proud of myself. - I'm very proud of yourself.

0:12:42 > 0:12:44- I'm proud of you, too. - Oh, thank you.

0:12:44 > 0:12:50And I think out of all of them, that's the funnist one yet.

0:12:50 > 0:12:54The funnist one, is it? Is that an actual sentence, is that real?

0:12:54 > 0:12:57- The funnist?- Yep.- Oh. - Well done, Blue team.

0:12:57 > 0:13:01Right, next up we have Nina and Tia, but first, has anyone seen Sandra?

0:13:01 > 0:13:06- Have you seen her?- No. - We keep losing her. No.

0:13:11 > 0:13:13I bet Sandra's in her office.

0:13:13 > 0:13:17Yep, there she is, testing out the latest in driving technology.

0:13:17 > 0:13:19Oh, yes!

0:13:19 > 0:13:21SANDRA IMITATES ENGINE NOISE

0:13:21 > 0:13:24Mirror, signal, manoeuvre.

0:13:26 > 0:13:28Wait!

0:13:30 > 0:13:34Ah, it's Mr C, the Driving Academy's chief crash test dummy.

0:13:34 > 0:13:36He has accidents, so you don't have to.

0:13:38 > 0:13:40Proceed.

0:13:40 > 0:13:46Oh, in the wars again, Mr C! Explain yourself, dummy!

0:13:49 > 0:13:51There's Mr C out on his bike.

0:13:51 > 0:13:55Wait a minute, there's two on that bike!

0:13:55 > 0:13:58There's some rocks on the road!

0:13:58 > 0:14:00And smash!

0:14:00 > 0:14:02But what did he do wrong?

0:14:05 > 0:14:09You really are a Class A dummy, Mr C!

0:14:09 > 0:14:12And not a helmet between you!

0:14:12 > 0:14:15Really! What would James May say?

0:14:15 > 0:14:18I bet James May would have some awesome advice.

0:14:18 > 0:14:20Tell him, James.

0:14:20 > 0:14:24It's silly and dangerous to carry a passenger on your bike.

0:14:24 > 0:14:25Unless?

0:14:25 > 0:14:28Unless the bike has been specially modified or designed to carry two.

0:14:28 > 0:14:30Great advice, James!

0:14:30 > 0:14:33Now, get out! Just get out!

0:14:33 > 0:14:36Don't be a dummy like Mr C and stay safe for Sandra.

0:14:51 > 0:14:55Back to the Superskills action with Team Green, Nina and Tia.

0:14:55 > 0:14:58- Good luck, Green team! - Come on, Tia!

0:14:58 > 0:15:01Remember, they only have a minute and a half each

0:15:01 > 0:15:03to better the Blue team's score of five.

0:15:03 > 0:15:06Tia's 90 seconds starts now!

0:15:06 > 0:15:08Remember the Wash of Shame!

0:15:08 > 0:15:13How can yesterday's losing team forget their messy forfeit?
