0:00:47 > 0:00:51I just remember being so excited to be on a movie set.

0:00:51 > 0:00:53It changed my life because I got paid.

0:00:53 > 0:00:58- Load of cameramen and it was really, like...- Whoa!

0:01:23 > 0:01:26BUZZING

0:01:26 > 0:01:30What do you think? This is awesome! My very own movie cloud.

0:01:30 > 0:01:35If you want to know how to make your own movie cloud, watch this.

0:01:35 > 0:01:39Cloud, take me away. Mmmmm!

0:01:39 > 0:01:43Introducing Mr Mike Tucker, here to show you how to create

0:01:43 > 0:01:47special effects Hollywood-style in The Secrets Of Movie-Making.

0:01:49 > 0:01:53Today, we're going to show you how to make your very own movie clouds,

0:01:53 > 0:01:55so grab a couple of friends and let's get started.

0:01:55 > 0:01:59This week, we're going to do stormy skies and clouds.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01This effect is a really impressive one and,

0:02:01 > 0:02:05if you've ever seen Close Encounters of the Third Kind, you'll know why.

0:02:05 > 0:02:10You'll need a fish tank, a jug, water and saltwater, milk,

0:02:10 > 0:02:12pegs and some black bin liners.

0:02:12 > 0:02:18OK. Step one is to get our saltwater into the tank

0:02:18 > 0:02:23and fill it up to a layer where we want our cloud to happen.

0:02:23 > 0:02:24Step two.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27We need to make sure that the two types,

0:02:27 > 0:02:30the saltwater and the fresh water, don't mix,

0:02:30 > 0:02:34so we're going to use a bit of bin liner to help separate the two.

0:02:34 > 0:02:38- Just clip it to the edge of the tank. - Step three.

0:02:38 > 0:02:43Carefully start pouring the fresh water in on top of the plastic.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46- Step four.- Right, we now need to do the tricky bit,

0:02:46 > 0:02:50which is get the plastic out without disturbing the two layers of liquid.

0:02:50 > 0:02:52So, we need to try

0:02:52 > 0:02:56and slide this plastic out over the top of the water.

0:02:56 > 0:02:57Right.

0:02:59 > 0:03:03- That's what we call an inversion layer.- Step five.

0:03:03 > 0:03:05Now we've let that settle a little bit,

0:03:05 > 0:03:08we need to get our milk in there.

0:03:08 > 0:03:12Now, pour it in from one end,

0:03:12 > 0:03:16quite slowly, in a stream,

0:03:16 > 0:03:19and then see what happens when it starts to hit...

0:03:20 > 0:03:26- Wow!- You'll now see that the clouds are travelling between the saltwater

0:03:26 > 0:03:27and the fresh water.

0:03:27 > 0:03:30- Wow.- It really looks like clouds.

0:03:30 > 0:03:31Step six.

0:03:31 > 0:03:34You can create a background by sticking a drawing

0:03:34 > 0:03:36or photo behind the fish tank,

0:03:36 > 0:03:39or you can just make a background with one of your own bin liners.

0:03:39 > 0:03:43We can clip in place with our pegs...

0:03:43 > 0:03:46OK, so, if you come down low, so you're looking up at it,

0:03:46 > 0:03:48try and avoid seeing your reflection.

0:03:51 > 0:03:53And start to get really fancy.

0:03:53 > 0:03:56You could add food colouring into the milk,

0:03:56 > 0:03:59in which case you'll get coloured clouds.

0:04:00 > 0:04:03And if that isn't enough for you, try this.

0:04:03 > 0:04:05By taking something like a torch,

0:04:05 > 0:04:08you can start getting things like lighting effects.

0:04:08 > 0:04:09Oh, wow!

0:04:09 > 0:04:11Thunder!

0:04:11 > 0:04:14And that's how you make your very own movie clouds.

0:04:19 > 0:04:22Imagine you've made your first film. What was it like?

0:04:22 > 0:04:27One word that sums up making my first film is excitement.

0:04:27 > 0:04:29It changed my life because I got paid.

0:04:29 > 0:04:34I just remember being so excited to be on a movie set

0:04:34 > 0:04:38because it's not something you really get to experience very often.

0:04:38 > 0:04:42I was shocked actually at the size and the scale of the production.

0:04:42 > 0:04:44There are so many different people.

0:04:44 > 0:04:48- Loads of cameramen and it was really, like....- Whoa!

0:04:48 > 0:04:51- Props.- Grips.- Like that.

0:04:51 > 0:04:53- Lighting crew.- Art department.

0:04:53 > 0:04:55- Sound operators.- It was enormous.

0:04:55 > 0:04:56Runners, everybody.

0:04:56 > 0:04:59You look at some of the names on the call sheet on a morning,

0:04:59 > 0:05:05just a who's who of the best British acting talent, and you're just

0:05:05 > 0:05:09so nervous about making a mistake or messing up in front of these people.

0:05:09 > 0:05:12Now, let's head behind the scenes.

0:05:12 > 0:05:13ParaNorman.

0:05:16 > 0:05:17Peace, man!

0:05:19 > 0:05:21As you were, soldier.

0:05:21 > 0:05:23Sir, yes, sir.

0:05:23 > 0:05:26My name's Sam Fell. I'm an animation director.

0:05:26 > 0:05:28Everyone in the real world thinks I'm a freak

0:05:28 > 0:05:30and, you know what, maybe they're right.

0:05:30 > 0:05:33I'll tell you a secret about Norman. He doesn't just have one face.

0:05:33 > 0:05:36He has thousands of faces.

0:05:36 > 0:05:41Thousands of faces that give him millions of expressions.

0:05:41 > 0:05:44And how that works is, we can take his face off.

0:05:44 > 0:05:48And then what we can do is put on other faces,

0:05:48 > 0:05:53so this face was from when he was cleaning his teeth.

0:05:58 > 0:05:59A thing that gave us

0:05:59 > 0:06:02the most incredible range of expressions is that we split

0:06:02 > 0:06:03his faces in half,

0:06:03 > 0:06:08so we were able to change his mouth

0:06:08 > 0:06:12separately from his eyebrows,

0:06:12 > 0:06:17and then we had an incredible little team of people painting out

0:06:17 > 0:06:21that line, frame by frame, so it looked like one face again.

0:06:24 > 0:06:26Hi, my name's Jeff Kinney,

0:06:26 > 0:06:29the author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, and I'm a cinemaniac.

0:06:37 > 0:06:40Finding the actors was very difficult at first.

0:06:40 > 0:06:42We had to start with our Greg.

0:06:42 > 0:06:44School isn't even out yet.

0:06:44 > 0:06:45Maybe we should come back.

0:06:45 > 0:06:48Some of the actors looked a lot like my characters,

0:06:48 > 0:06:51like Rowley Jefferson is a really good approximation.

0:06:51 > 0:06:53Geronimo!

0:06:54 > 0:06:57When you sit people down in a theatre,

0:06:57 > 0:07:00you have to change things up to make sure the story really has

0:07:00 > 0:07:04an impact, so we did things like added the mother and son dance

0:07:04 > 0:07:07to really amp up the conflict between Greg and Rowley.

0:07:11 > 0:07:13There was one day on set when something really funny happened.

0:07:18 > 0:07:21Zac Gordon did not like being in the swimming pool.

0:07:21 > 0:07:23Greg, honey, go help your brother.

0:07:23 > 0:07:25Because the water was this off colour

0:07:25 > 0:07:29and he was afraid that the kids, the little kids, were peeing in the pool.

0:07:29 > 0:07:32- What's so funny?- I'm peeing.

0:07:34 > 0:07:35And then, as a joke,

0:07:35 > 0:07:40the girl who played Holly Hills threw a candy bar into the pool

0:07:40 > 0:07:43and then she said, "There's something in the pool"

0:07:43 > 0:07:45and everybody on set just completely freaked out.

0:07:45 > 0:07:48It was kind of gross, but it was very funny.

0:07:48 > 0:07:51I think there will be a fourth movie.

0:07:51 > 0:07:54And I really hope that The Long Haul gets made because it would take us

0:07:54 > 0:07:56outside the school environment completely, put the characters

0:07:56 > 0:07:59out on the road, it would be a totally different kind of story.

0:07:59 > 0:08:01It'd be really fresh.

0:08:01 > 0:08:04I think we could get away with keeping the same parents

0:08:04 > 0:08:07and maybe even Rodrick, but the kids who played Greg and Rowley in the

0:08:07 > 0:08:08first movies, they've grown up,

0:08:08 > 0:08:11but Greg is a cartoon character

0:08:11 > 0:08:13and he'll stay the same age for ever.

0:08:29 > 0:08:34Matthew and James, specialist subject - Fantastic Mr Fox.

0:08:34 > 0:08:39What are the names of the three farmers who are after Mr Fox?

0:08:43 > 0:08:44BOTH: Blueberries.

0:08:44 > 0:08:48True or false - the farmers shot Mr Fox's tail off

0:08:48 > 0:08:49while he was in the chicken house?

0:08:49 > 0:08:53- BOTH: False. - What kind of animal is Coach Skip?

0:09:08 > 0:09:12What is the surname of the children Mary looks after?

0:09:12 > 0:09:14- Banks. - What is the name of the film

0:09:14 > 0:09:18released in 2013 about the making of Mary Poppins?

0:09:18 > 0:09:19Saving Mr Banks.

0:09:19 > 0:09:21It's a jolly what with Mary?

0:09:21 > 0:09:23Holiday.

0:09:23 > 0:09:26- What song do the sweeps dance to on the rooftops?- Er...

0:09:42 > 0:09:47What does Mr Thompson plan to do in his spare time with his sons?

0:09:47 > 0:09:48Fishing.

0:09:48 > 0:09:51- What type of creature attacks Antie? - Scorpion?

0:09:51 > 0:09:54Which family owns a cat?

0:09:54 > 0:09:55The Thompsons.

0:09:55 > 0:09:58What does Amy want to do with her friends?

0:09:58 > 0:10:04- Um...go to the shopping mall? - What sport does Ron enjoy playing?

0:10:04 > 0:10:05Baseball.

0:10:05 > 0:10:07What does Nick have for breakfast after

0:10:07 > 0:10:11- he refuses to eat the burnt toast Amy makes?- Er, a biscuit.

0:10:11 > 0:10:15What was the reason the shrinking machine started working correctly?

0:10:52 > 0:10:54This is the Accent Challenge.

0:10:54 > 0:10:58In three minutes I'm going to have to learn how to do this accent...

0:10:58 > 0:11:01With the help of voice coach Catherine.

0:11:01 > 0:11:05Learning an accent is all about brain, ear, mouth connection,

0:11:05 > 0:11:08so how often you've heard it, how often has it been in your ear?

0:11:08 > 0:11:12I am going to be put up against people doing their natural voice,

0:11:12 > 0:11:13what they speak like.

0:11:13 > 0:11:16I think Michael is incredibly brave.

0:11:16 > 0:11:19In fact, I don't know many actors who would put

0:11:19 > 0:11:22- themselves in this position with an accent.- 'Hm, tell me about it!

0:11:22 > 0:11:24'I have to succeed in two out

0:11:24 > 0:11:27'of three voice rounds to win today's challenge.

0:11:27 > 0:11:30'The judges will hear two voices on this speaker phone -

0:11:30 > 0:11:34'one will be the real accent and the other will be me

0:11:34 > 0:11:36'trying to do the accent!'

0:11:36 > 0:11:38It's time for The Challenge.

0:11:38 > 0:11:39You've done this one before?

0:11:39 > 0:11:42Not really, but I've just heard it a bit.

0:11:42 > 0:11:47OK. Now, THs, it's halfway between a T-H and a D. It's not quite a D.

0:11:47 > 0:11:49- IRISH ACCENT: It's good, Mother. - Yeah, that's it.

0:11:49 > 0:11:52- Over the top of the freezing down. - Over the top of the freezing down.

0:11:52 > 0:11:56'That's learning time up, so bring on The Challenge!'

0:11:56 > 0:11:59Cornfields were yellow. The oats were green.

0:11:59 > 0:12:03The hay had been put up in stacks in the green meadows.

0:12:03 > 0:12:05The cornfields were yellow. The oats were green.

0:12:05 > 0:12:08The hay had been put up in stacks in the green meadows.

0:12:08 > 0:12:10I think the first one's real

0:12:10 > 0:12:15because it was...it seemed a bit more like the actual person.

0:12:15 > 0:12:19'After the first round, there are five votes for voice one

0:12:19 > 0:12:21'and only one vote for voice two.

0:12:21 > 0:12:23'Whoo-hoo!

0:12:23 > 0:12:24'Voice one was me, not the real

0:12:24 > 0:12:26'thing, which means the point is mine!'

0:12:26 > 0:12:29The hay had been put up in stacks in the green meadows.

0:12:29 > 0:12:31'Next up...'

0:12:31 > 0:12:33It's Geordie. 'All the way from Newcastle.

0:12:35 > 0:12:38- NEWCASTLE ACCENT:- Rusty-looking. - Rusty-looking cook stove.- Very good.

0:12:38 > 0:12:42Dorothy lived in the midst of the great Kansas prairies

0:12:42 > 0:12:46with Uncle Henry, who's a farmer, and Aunt Em, who's the farmer's wife.

0:12:46 > 0:12:50Dorothy lived in the midst of the great Kansas prairies with

0:12:50 > 0:12:55Uncle Henry, who was a farmer and Aunt Em, who was the farmer's wife.

0:12:55 > 0:12:58I think the first one was a bit, like, over the top.

0:12:58 > 0:13:00The second one did sound normal in a way.

0:13:02 > 0:13:06'After the second round, they all think the first voice was fake. Argh!

0:13:06 > 0:13:10'They were right. Voice two was the real Geordie, so I lose that point.'

0:13:10 > 0:13:12Aunt Em was the farmer's wife.

0:13:12 > 0:13:15'One round all, but this is for The Challenge.'

0:13:15 > 0:13:19Finnish! I've never heard anyone from Finland speak.

0:13:19 > 0:13:21Over to you.

0:13:21 > 0:13:24The thing is, English is a second language, so that means

0:13:24 > 0:13:27they're going to pronounce things they way that it's read.

0:13:27 > 0:13:30They're going to pronounce all the Rs because they're in the spelling.

0:13:30 > 0:13:32"Dear little girl," you know,

0:13:32 > 0:13:34they're all going to be in the spelling.

0:13:34 > 0:13:37Once, she gave her a little cap of red velvet,

0:13:37 > 0:13:41so she was always called Little Red Riding Hood.

0:13:41 > 0:13:45Once, she gave her a little cap of red velvet,

0:13:45 > 0:13:49so she was always called Little Red Riding Hood.

0:13:49 > 0:13:51I didn't even know what the accent was.

0:13:51 > 0:13:55I would like to apologise to the entire nation of Finland.

0:13:55 > 0:13:58- I think the second one's real. - Second.- Second.

0:13:58 > 0:14:02'The votes are in and, wow, the second voice was me! Result!

0:14:02 > 0:14:03'That's two-one to me!'

0:14:03 > 0:14:06She gave her a little cap of red velvet.

0:14:06 > 0:14:11'Today's challenge started with me learning how to speak Irish

0:14:15 > 0:14:16'Well, at least two.

0:14:16 > 0:14:23'And that means, for today at least, I am Michael Sheen - Super Actor!'

0:14:28 > 0:14:31And that really is almost it, except to tell you that

0:14:31 > 0:14:34when they made ET The Extra-Terrestrial, they created

0:14:34 > 0:14:39the sound effect of ET walking from using a T-shirt filled with jelly...

0:14:39 > 0:14:42SQUELCHING
