0:02:25 > 0:02:28We wouldn't want to share it with just anybody.

0:02:30 > 0:02:33- it is a little bit small for three people.- Tiny stage.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36- So, I reckon you should go backstage.- Backstage.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39That's no problem, cos everybody knows, after all,

0:03:28 > 0:03:31Very exciting. OK, guys, if you'd like to make your way to your seats,

0:03:31 > 0:03:33and whilst they do that, let's find out little bit more

0:03:33 > 0:03:37about our perfect professionals.

0:03:37 > 0:03:39They're the top coaches in the industry and have worked

0:03:39 > 0:03:42with a host of stars from The Saturdays to Olly Murs,

0:03:42 > 0:03:43it's the judges.

0:03:43 > 0:03:46The reason I get up in the morning and go to work

0:03:46 > 0:03:48is because I love seeing people transformed,

0:03:48 > 0:03:51and when you sing, it does more than just help you feel good

0:03:51 > 0:03:55about your voice, it does something for who you are.

0:03:55 > 0:03:57My expectations this year are higher than ever.

0:03:57 > 0:04:02I'm expecting people to come on to that stage and completely take over,

0:04:02 > 0:04:06to know they're on TV, with a live audience - they have to entertain.

0:04:08 > 0:04:11I hope to bring balance to the judging panel.

0:04:11 > 0:04:14I hope to bring some empathy, some encouragement,

0:04:14 > 0:04:17with some constructive critique.

0:04:18 > 0:04:20I'm looking for bigger and better talent.

0:04:20 > 0:04:24I want better choreography, better vocals and better charisma.

0:04:24 > 0:04:28I want the whole package, so I want, basically, the impossible.

0:04:32 > 0:04:34APPLAUSE AND CHEERING

0:04:34 > 0:04:38- That is why they're the judges, people, that is why.- Absolutely.

0:04:38 > 0:04:41Now for the important bit. 15 groups have made it through to the heats.

0:04:41 > 0:04:44Today, three will battle it out for our experts,

0:04:44 > 0:04:48who will be scoring them on vocal ability, creativity and performance.

0:04:48 > 0:04:51All four judges will be giving marks out of 10 for each

0:04:51 > 0:04:53of the disciplines, so there are plenty of points to be won,

0:04:53 > 0:04:55and in the unlikely event of a tie,

0:04:55 > 0:04:58head judge Carrie will decide who gets the medals.

0:04:58 > 0:05:00The acts with the top five scores across the heats

0:05:00 > 0:05:02will then compete in the live finals,

0:05:02 > 0:05:05where it will be up for you at home to vote for your favourites.

0:06:26 > 0:06:28This will test my interview skills.

0:06:28 > 0:06:31So, Philippe, who does your hair and make-up?

0:06:33 > 0:06:36No? Are you cheesed off that the group's not called LS9?

0:13:55 > 0:13:58It's all right, you can calm down, it's over.

0:13:58 > 0:14:01Fantastic start. Let's see what the judges thought of that performance.

0:14:01 > 0:14:04Carrie, what does this round do to highlight

0:14:04 > 0:14:06the groups' singing ability?

0:14:06 > 0:14:08With these particular groups, it's brilliant for us

0:14:08 > 0:14:10cos it's one song and you have three groups

0:14:10 > 0:14:11with totally different styles,

0:14:11 > 0:14:15so we really get to see if they can translate that on to the same song.

0:14:15 > 0:14:20OK, so, Excellar8, you are really cute as David said in the auditions.

0:14:20 > 0:14:22You did the tightest singing today.

0:14:22 > 0:14:24Really excellent, and for the youngest group

0:14:24 > 0:14:27I'm really impressed with that, big salute.

0:14:27 > 0:14:31LS8, your challenge was, can we carry the drama onto a pop song?

0:14:31 > 0:14:34For me, you did, visually. Vocally, I'm not so sure, for me.

0:14:34 > 0:14:37I think the guys were down too low on that low root note.

0:14:37 > 0:14:40But OK, very good visually.

0:14:40 > 0:14:43Diva8, you kept that kind of African rhythm.

0:14:43 > 0:14:46Even though you were doing a pop song, you still kept it.

0:14:46 > 0:14:50The tuning, pitchy in places, but for me, the rhythm,

0:14:50 > 0:14:52that was the best rhythmical singing we had.

0:14:52 > 0:14:55- APPLAUSE - Thank you, Carrie.

0:14:55 > 0:14:58David, how do you compare those performances?

0:14:58 > 0:15:01They were three very different performances. If the Chipmunks

0:15:01 > 0:15:03and the Chipettes were human,

0:15:03 > 0:15:05they would be Excellar8.

0:15:05 > 0:15:09They're cute, they're sweet, they're like...

0:15:09 > 0:15:14bright. LS8, to me, they're like a tight gang.

0:15:14 > 0:15:18They attacked the song more than any other group

0:15:18 > 0:15:21and I really like that. It's like you take the song and you give it

0:15:21 > 0:15:24a good kicking. I enjoyed your performance of it.

0:15:24 > 0:15:29Diva8, I think that you guys were, for me, very smooth vocally.

0:15:29 > 0:15:32I agree with Carrie inasmuch as there were a few pitchy things

0:15:32 > 0:15:37here and there, but your sound, you really blend well.

0:15:37 > 0:15:39Thank you. Nice one. APPLAUSE

0:15:39 > 0:15:42John, which acts did it for you there?

0:15:42 > 0:15:45Again, different reasons.

0:15:45 > 0:15:48Vocal blend, I would have to say Diva8 did it for me.

0:15:48 > 0:15:51As far as stage presence,

0:15:51 > 0:15:54it's you guys, Excellar8, that always do it for me.

0:15:54 > 0:15:58You just have that natural charisma. I always watch you and just smile.

0:15:58 > 0:16:01I have to say, for the tightness and the hard work -

0:16:01 > 0:16:03and I can see everything - for that, it's you guys,

0:16:03 > 0:16:07- all the time, it's LS8. - Thank you.- Right, thanks very much.

0:16:07 > 0:16:11- Sisco, were you entertained? - I was entertained.

0:16:11 > 0:16:14And what I really liked about all three groups,

0:16:14 > 0:16:16they prioritised the vocal.

0:16:16 > 0:16:19The choreography wasn't too much. It wasn't overbearing

0:16:19 > 0:16:22and I really enjoyed the interpretation of the songs,

0:16:22 > 0:16:25- so well done to all three groups. - Thank you very much, judges.

0:16:25 > 0:16:29APPLAUSE All right. So...

0:16:29 > 0:16:31whilst we check and verify the scores for Round 1,

0:16:31 > 0:16:35let's take a look at some messages from OUR famous friends.

0:16:35 > 0:16:37- They're ours.- Yeah!

0:16:37 > 0:16:40- ALL:- Hi, we're Little Mix!

0:16:40 > 0:16:42If you've been inspired by the incredible performances

0:16:42 > 0:16:45that you've seen on today's show, then get involved

0:16:45 > 0:16:48and do something funny for money for this Red Nose Day.

0:16:48 > 0:16:49Thank you!

0:16:52 > 0:16:55So, the scores have been checked and verified

0:16:55 > 0:16:58and the results for Round 1 are in, so it's over to you, Sam.

0:16:58 > 0:17:01Oh, it's getting very tense. I can reveal

0:17:01 > 0:17:04that the judges' combined score for Excellar8,

0:17:04 > 0:17:07out of a possible 120 points, is...

0:17:17 > 0:17:20The judges' combined score for LS8 is...

0:17:31 > 0:17:34And finally, the judges' combined score for Diva8 is...

0:17:43 > 0:17:45- Well done, guys. - It's very, very close

0:17:45 > 0:17:49and all to play for. There's still one more challenge to go,

0:17:49 > 0:17:53but before that, let's take a look at the scoreboard after Round 1.

0:17:53 > 0:17:56Excellar8 are leading the way with 81 points.

0:17:56 > 0:17:58LS8 have 73 points

0:17:58 > 0:18:02and Diva8 are just ahead of LS8 with 74 points.

0:18:02 > 0:18:06But with 120 points available to each group in Round 2,

0:18:06 > 0:18:08it could all change.

0:18:08 > 0:18:10So, I'm here with all the 8s, who really did have

0:18:10 > 0:18:13some lovely comments, didn't you, Excellar8?

0:18:13 > 0:18:15- Yeah.- Great stage presence, great charisma.

0:18:15 > 0:18:18Carrie thought you were vocally the tightest group.

0:18:18 > 0:18:19What do you think of those comments?

0:18:19 > 0:18:21They're really, really good.

0:18:21 > 0:18:25- We were dead happy when we got them. - And the highest score?

0:18:25 > 0:18:27Yeah, I didn't think we'd get the highest,

0:18:27 > 0:18:30- but we did really well, yeah. - Excellent. Over to LS8.

0:18:30 > 0:18:34Harry. They loved you. They thought you were really good visually.

0:18:34 > 0:18:36They said you attacked the song.

0:18:36 > 0:18:39David said you gave it a good kicking. Would you agree?

0:18:39 > 0:18:42Well, we did work quite a lot on it,

0:18:42 > 0:18:46and we gave it some sparkle...

0:18:46 > 0:18:50- Your pizzazz that you were talking about.- ..some pizzazz.

0:18:50 > 0:18:54And all the constructive criticism, we'll take it on board

0:18:54 > 0:18:57and maybe put that into our routines.

0:18:57 > 0:19:00Into your next song. Give us your pizzazz face to the camera.

0:19:00 > 0:19:03It's good, that! And over to LS8.

0:19:03 > 0:19:05I do like this move that you do. I like that one.

0:19:05 > 0:19:08So they thought that you kept your African rhythm,

0:19:08 > 0:19:12lovely vocal blend. Has that given you confidence for the next round?

0:19:12 > 0:19:15Definitely. I think we were a bit nervous

0:19:15 > 0:19:17when we did our first performance,

0:19:17 > 0:19:20but I think, cos we've now got, like -

0:19:20 > 0:19:22we can do it, we've experienced it -

0:19:22 > 0:19:25I think we're all really excited for the next performance.

0:19:25 > 0:19:27Growing in confidence every minute. Well, well done!

0:19:27 > 0:19:30Very tight scores at this stage in the game,

0:19:30 > 0:19:32but there are plenty of points on offer,

0:19:32 > 0:19:34so best of luck with your next song. Let's give them

0:19:34 > 0:19:36a big round of applause. Back to you, Sam and Mark.

0:19:37 > 0:19:40- It is very tight.- Yeah. - Thank you very much, Naomi.

0:19:40 > 0:19:43While the groups get ready for round number two,

0:19:43 > 0:19:45let's remind ourselves why we're here

0:19:45 > 0:19:47and how Comic Relief really does make a difference

0:19:47 > 0:19:50to young lives in the UK and in Africa.

0:19:50 > 0:19:54Comic Relief works hard to support people

0:21:09 > 0:21:12Remember, only the top five will go through to the live finals.

0:21:24 > 0:21:26CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:21:29 > 0:21:31They're a massive fan of musical theatre.

0:21:31 > 0:21:34Let's take a look at Excellar8's journey to the heats.

0:21:34 > 0:21:38'Stockport's Excellar8 first caught John's eye

0:21:38 > 0:21:40'with their energy and style in Manchester.'

0:21:40 > 0:21:43That was...fantastic!

0:21:43 > 0:21:48'The next stop on their journey was the judges' auditions in London.'

0:21:48 > 0:21:52- # I know I gave it to you months ago - Oh, oh, oh

0:21:52 > 0:21:55- # I know you're trying to forget - Oh, oh

0:21:55 > 0:21:57# But between the drinks and subtle things

0:21:57 > 0:21:59# The holes in my apologies... #

0:21:59 > 0:22:03'And they really made an impact on David.'

0:22:03 > 0:22:04You sang it really well.

0:22:04 > 0:22:07You are cuter than the cutest thing in Cute Town!

0:22:07 > 0:22:11The ensemble, I felt, was like a game of two halves.

0:22:11 > 0:22:13I felt the first half was a little bit sloppy,

0:22:13 > 0:22:17and then we got to the second half and you suddenly locked in

0:22:17 > 0:22:22- and then we got what you were really about, so well done!- Thank you.

0:22:22 > 0:22:26'So, will Excellar8 excel in Glasgow and keep up the cute factor?'

0:22:29 > 0:22:32Don't panic. Listen to me. It's only bad if you step on him.

0:22:32 > 0:22:35And it's fine. I don't mind.

0:22:35 > 0:22:38Now they're going into studio to watch the other groups rehearse.

0:22:38 > 0:22:43- How are you feeling?- Nervous.- Quite nervous but I'm going to enjoy it.

0:22:43 > 0:22:45I love that you've got your shiny leggings and hats.

0:22:45 > 0:22:48- You can see your faces in them. - Can you?- Yeah.

0:22:48 > 0:22:51Check that you haven't got any spinach in your teeth!

0:22:54 > 0:22:57I think if we had to describe Excellar8 in one word,

0:22:57 > 0:23:00it would be "amazing".

0:23:00 > 0:23:03- Yeah.- Cos we are amazing. Very amazing.

0:24:46 > 0:24:49APPLAUSE AND CHEERING

0:24:49 > 0:24:53Yeah, all right. Excellar8!

0:24:53 > 0:24:56- Well done.- Well done, guys. Nice work.- Wow. OK.

0:24:56 > 0:24:59Let's see what the judges thought of that performance.

0:24:59 > 0:25:01David, should Excellar8 be proud of that performance?

0:25:01 > 0:25:03Yeah, I think they should. They gave everything they had.

0:25:03 > 0:25:05They looked like they were enjoying it.

0:25:05 > 0:25:08There was the odd pitchy moment, but apart from that, to me,

0:25:08 > 0:25:12their performance looked like it was them. It's really them.

0:25:12 > 0:25:14Everything they do, they just do it as them.

0:25:14 > 0:25:17And that, I love about them.

0:25:17 > 0:25:19Fantastic.

0:25:19 > 0:25:22John, how were the vocals?

0:25:22 > 0:25:25You know what? You guys made the gear changes we talked about

0:25:25 > 0:25:26in the auditions rounds.

0:25:26 > 0:25:29I really love that. You went first gear, second gear, third gear,

0:25:29 > 0:25:31and you kept me interested right throughout.

0:25:31 > 0:25:34Cos it's not enough to be cute. And you know we put you through

0:25:34 > 0:25:37because of your vocal and performance ability, so well done.

0:25:37 > 0:25:41APPLAUSE

0:25:41 > 0:25:44- Sisco, was the choreography enough there?- It was.

0:25:44 > 0:25:47Um, I felt that it was a little static in places.

0:25:47 > 0:25:50But I think the song is such a beautiful song,

0:25:50 > 0:25:52it doesn't need too much, you know, movement.

0:25:52 > 0:25:54So I think you guys had a good balance with it.

0:25:54 > 0:25:57I would have liked a bit more formations in the beginning.

0:25:57 > 0:26:00But you guys are so adorable, that even if it is all wrong,

0:26:00 > 0:26:02I will still be up for this band!

0:26:02 > 0:26:03I think you guys are great,

0:26:03 > 0:26:06and I think you should be really proud of that performance.

0:26:06 > 0:26:08- That helps.- Yeah.- It really helps.

0:26:08 > 0:26:10What about us, Sisco, are we adorable?

0:26:10 > 0:26:13- All right!- We'll take that!

0:26:13 > 0:26:16OK. Carrie, do you see Excellar8 as finalists?

0:26:16 > 0:26:19I certainly think they could get through to our top five, for sure.

0:26:19 > 0:26:23I really liked the whole piece as a performance piece.

0:26:23 > 0:26:27You know, my expectation of a group that's this young,

0:26:27 > 0:26:28is slightly lower.

0:26:28 > 0:26:32But I have to say, you delivered vocals that are beautifully blended.

0:26:32 > 0:26:34You've got a very young sound, beautifully together.

0:26:34 > 0:26:37I always loved your soloists from the audition rounds.

0:26:37 > 0:26:40You came forward a bit more today. That was lovely.

0:26:40 > 0:26:44- Really great performance.- Nice one. Thank you very much, judges.

0:26:44 > 0:26:47- Are you happy with those comments, guys?- Yeah.

0:26:47 > 0:26:49High-fives! Yeah, air-fives, air-fives, yeah, yeah, yeah!

0:26:49 > 0:26:52Well done, guys. Give it up for Excellar8! Off you go.

0:26:52 > 0:26:54CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:26:54 > 0:26:56Excellar8, come and join me,

0:26:56 > 0:26:59you shiny bunch of lovely, smiley people.

0:26:59 > 0:27:03So, John was really pleased, because he said you achieved

0:27:03 > 0:27:05those gear changes, gradually building the song,

0:27:05 > 0:27:07that had been mentioned in the auditions.

0:27:07 > 0:27:09Do you think you can go up another level,

0:27:09 > 0:27:11should you make it through to the next round?

0:27:11 > 0:27:16Eh, yeah, I think we can offer more and we'll be able to

0:27:16 > 0:27:20maybe, yeah, do more of what we're doing, but better.

0:27:20 > 0:27:22Well, that is well said. I like that a lot.

0:27:22 > 0:27:25Now you are so shiny. I mean, who chose the outfits,

0:27:25 > 0:27:28the shiny caps and leggings? Who chose those?

0:27:28 > 0:27:31- Erin.- We got the leggings ourselves.

0:27:31 > 0:27:33I know you love them because you can check your make-up in them,

0:27:33 > 0:27:35you were saying.

0:27:35 > 0:27:38They act like a mirror. Really shiny. Love it, well done.

0:27:38 > 0:27:40I think they deserve another round of applause.

0:27:40 > 0:27:41Let's hear it for Excellar8!

0:27:41 > 0:27:45CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:28:11 > 0:28:14I must say, that was, eh, refreshingly unique.

0:28:14 > 0:28:17Something unusual. I didn't expect that.

0:28:17 > 0:28:19And from the judges' auditions.

0:28:19 > 0:28:21You, John, were brilliantly demented.

0:28:21 > 0:28:23Madness!

0:28:23 > 0:28:27And the rest of you matched him.

0:28:45 > 0:28:48So where do the group from Leeds go from here?

0:28:48 > 0:28:50Can they top that performance

0:28:50 > 0:28:53when they take to the stage one more time?

0:28:53 > 0:28:56- How are you feeling? Are you all right?- Nervous.- Are you?- Yeah.

0:29:10 > 0:29:12and the other groups are like really good, so...

0:29:12 > 0:29:15We need to give it our best sparkle.

0:29:15 > 0:29:17What are you going to be thinking about

0:29:17 > 0:29:18as you're doing your performance?

0:29:18 > 0:29:20Like, think about...

0:29:20 > 0:29:24- Sparkling.- ..sparkling and think about your harmonies as well.

0:30:42 > 0:30:44# You want to laugh, you want to cry

0:30:44 > 0:30:47# You cross your heart and hope to die

0:30:47 > 0:30:50# Till it's over and then

0:31:48 > 0:31:52No-one does musical theatre quite like you guys, no-one does it.

0:31:59 > 0:32:02Sisco, did you like that performance?

0:32:02 > 0:32:06I loved it, I thought it was a very risky song choice, you know,

0:32:06 > 0:32:10anything by Bjork is very hard to imitate or even try to sing

0:32:10 > 0:32:13because she's so quirky, but you guys added such a great spin

0:32:13 > 0:32:17to it and I loved the choreography, the concept, how quirky it was.

0:32:17 > 0:32:19It was quite random as well, yet entertaining,

0:32:19 > 0:32:20your vocals were on point.

0:32:39 > 0:32:40If you get through to the next round,

0:32:40 > 0:32:43I do want you to concentrate on your vocals a little bit more,

0:32:43 > 0:32:45but that's just one tiny note

0:32:45 > 0:32:49in a whole very enjoyable theatre production.

0:32:49 > 0:32:50APPLAUSE

0:32:50 > 0:32:53David, did that come all together for you?

0:32:53 > 0:32:58Well, now for the truth, chaps. That was brilliant!

0:32:58 > 0:33:01I loved the theatricality, I loved your acting,

0:33:10 > 0:33:12You can't do better than that, really.

0:33:33 > 0:33:35And David was saying nobody does musical theatre

0:33:35 > 0:33:37in the same way as you guys do it.

0:33:37 > 0:33:39I mean, what do you think of the comments?

0:33:39 > 0:33:42Well, from, like, the first round, we brought it back, like,

0:33:42 > 0:33:47we were ourselves, we had all the energy and sparkle.

0:34:17 > 0:34:20if they don't get their water at the right temperature,

0:34:20 > 0:34:21the chauffeur to pick them up on time

0:35:05 > 0:35:08So Diva8 were on their way to Glasgow, but have they listened

0:35:08 > 0:35:12to what the judges said and are they ready to take the stage once again?

0:35:14 > 0:35:17We've learnt how to perform more and work more as a group,

0:35:17 > 0:35:22so we can look each other and use our faces and, yeah,
