0:01:24 > 0:01:27- Morning, cadets.- Morning.

0:01:30 > 0:01:33- Good morning.- Morning, Sergeant.

0:01:33 > 0:01:36I'm Sergeant Merrett from the Metropolitan Police Traffic Unit.

0:01:40 > 0:01:46The Met's Traffic Unit police all 15,000 kilometres of London's roads.

0:01:46 > 0:01:50Last year, there were over 3,000 injuries and 180 deaths on the

0:01:50 > 0:01:54capital's roads, and the traffic cops dealt with every one of them.

0:01:54 > 0:01:58All the officers in the Traffic Unit have been

0:01:58 > 0:02:00through intensive training.

0:02:00 > 0:02:05Sergeant Robin Merrett has been in the force for 25 years, and has been

0:02:16 > 0:02:20but can he teach the Cop School cadets enough in two days

0:02:20 > 0:02:22for them to succeed in their final challenge?

0:02:22 > 0:02:26- Did you not see us? - You're blaming me for this, are you?

0:02:26 > 0:02:30- If you want to be traffic cops, I presume you can all drive.- Yeah.

0:02:30 > 0:02:33Really? We'll see about that!

0:02:33 > 0:02:36Well, this morning, you're all going to be taught how to drive,

0:02:36 > 0:02:38and Sergeant Julie Finnegan is going to teach you how.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40- How do you feel about that?- Excited!

0:02:40 > 0:02:43You're going to learn some of the skills

0:02:43 > 0:02:46that the police Traffic Unit learn themselves.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48- Can we take it home?- No, Sam.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53To understand how to police traffic, the cadets must be

0:02:53 > 0:02:56able to drive a car themselves.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58- OK. Excited?- Yes!- OK.

0:02:58 > 0:03:00So, listen to everything I tell you.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03No. Wait. Brake for me.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06That's it. Keep your foot on the foot brake.

0:03:06 > 0:03:09- Don't like driving!- Rebecca does look a little bit nervous.

0:03:09 > 0:03:13In the UK, you must be 17 years old to drive on public roads,

0:03:13 > 0:03:16so our cadets are being taught at the training school.

0:03:16 > 0:03:19Show us what you've got, Junior. Creeping up.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21- Here we go, Jade. - Careful not to run Rav over there.

0:03:21 > 0:03:25- That's important. - THEY CHEER

0:03:25 > 0:03:27Don't be distracted. Steer round to the left.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29I don't know how you can keep your cool.

0:03:29 > 0:03:31Don't kill the cone.

0:03:33 > 0:03:37- Really good.- Thank you.- You're getting the hang of this, aren't you?

0:03:37 > 0:03:41I really want to be Top Cop. I'm working so hard.

0:03:41 > 0:03:45In a real driving test, you have do a turn in the road,

0:03:45 > 0:03:49so let's see how Sam copes with our motorbike road block.

0:03:49 > 0:03:51- He's confidently gone straight into that.- He has!

0:03:51 > 0:03:54- Just steer. That's perfect. - Look at that.

0:03:54 > 0:03:56Very good. Three point turn.

0:03:56 > 0:03:58- Got to be impressed with that. - Are you enjoying this?

0:03:58 > 0:04:03- Yeah, this is amazing.- Good. We need to watch the speed with Megan.

0:04:03 > 0:04:04She's a little bit quick!

0:04:04 > 0:04:07Just come off the gas pedal a little bit. That's it.

0:04:07 > 0:04:11- Just move a little bit smooth. - Positioning is good. Very steady.

0:04:11 > 0:04:14- Come on, Megan!- Nice, lots of support off her team-mates.

0:04:14 > 0:04:16Thank you. I felt so in control of a car.

0:04:16 > 0:04:18That's cool!

0:04:18 > 0:04:23- Two hands on the wheel, Nathan! - Wow, you're a natural, aren't you?

0:04:23 > 0:04:25- Steer to the left. - He's a bit quicker.

0:04:25 > 0:04:28Looking a lot more confident, isn't he?

0:04:28 > 0:04:32They've mastered the basics, but this isn't just about driving.

0:04:32 > 0:04:35Police officers are on the look out at all times, so our cadets

0:04:35 > 0:04:38should do the same. We've planted celebrity couple Posh and Becks

0:04:38 > 0:04:41and a yellow ladder on their route.

0:04:41 > 0:04:43Will they spot them? Let's see.

0:04:45 > 0:04:47What can you see now, where are you looking?

0:04:47 > 0:04:49- I'm looking right at them cones.- OK.

0:04:49 > 0:04:52How could you miss Posh and Becks, Junior?

0:04:52 > 0:04:55Notice anything to your right, Nathan?

0:04:55 > 0:05:00- Looking all around us, to see what's happening.- See anything, Jade?

0:05:02 > 0:05:04- Oh, look at these people! - Well done, Sam.

0:05:04 > 0:05:06You're the only one to spot our celebs.

0:05:06 > 0:05:09Obviously, I observed your driving.

0:05:09 > 0:05:12Some a little bit quicker that the traffic school maybe

0:05:12 > 0:05:15would have liked on lesson one - no names mentioned, Megan.

0:05:15 > 0:05:17LAUGHTER

0:05:17 > 0:05:19If I said to you, did you notice

0:05:19 > 0:05:26- David Beckham and Posh Spice carrying a yellow ladder?- No.

0:05:26 > 0:05:29LAUGHTER

0:05:29 > 0:05:32I thought that was Rav!

0:05:36 > 0:05:39Police driving sorted, time to hit the streets for their

0:05:39 > 0:05:42first shift as traffic cops.

0:05:42 > 0:05:45The boys get into position with Sergeant Styles

0:05:45 > 0:05:47to scan for speeding motorists,

0:05:47 > 0:05:51while the girls get to grips with the in-car technology with PC Viner.

0:05:51 > 0:05:54They'd better pay attention, because they're going to

0:05:54 > 0:05:56need this later in the final challenge.

0:05:56 > 0:05:58In just 24 hours, the cadets

0:05:58 > 0:06:03will need to figure out who is responsible for this collision.

0:06:03 > 0:06:07The cadets who perform best will win a high speed spin

0:06:07 > 0:06:10on the police skid pan.

0:06:10 > 0:06:11Met Police traffic cars

0:06:11 > 0:06:14are state-of-the-art crime solving machines.

0:06:14 > 0:06:17With technology like this in every car, getting away with

0:06:17 > 0:06:21- a crime is more difficult than ever. - If we see anything suspicious

0:06:21 > 0:06:23to the left or the right, we can move the camera.

0:06:23 > 0:06:25So is that how traffic cops

0:06:25 > 0:06:28- can see the crash, like, head-on? - Yes. Absolutely.

0:06:28 > 0:06:31Number plate recognition systems and onboard computers mean Megan

0:06:31 > 0:06:33and the cadets will be able

0:06:33 > 0:06:36to identify criminals and offenders at the touch of a button.

0:06:36 > 0:06:39Obviously if we stop one and it's not on there,

0:06:39 > 0:06:41then we need to start asking a few more questions.

0:06:41 > 0:06:45Excessive speed contributes to the majority of road deaths, so Junior

0:06:45 > 0:06:49and the boys use a laser gun to catch motorists breaking the law.

0:06:49 > 0:06:53- Get to work, boys. - Keep it low on the bumper,

0:06:53 > 0:06:56and then gradually move it up until it locks on.

0:06:56 > 0:06:58- 31.- 31mph. Just over the limit.

0:06:58 > 0:07:03They've already seen the police and they'll calm down.

0:07:03 > 0:07:0735. Naughty boy!

0:07:07 > 0:07:09If they're doing between 35 and 49 -

0:07:09 > 0:07:12- have you ever heard of a Fixed Penalty Notice?- Yeah.

0:07:12 > 0:07:15At the side of the road, you give them a ticket.

0:07:15 > 0:07:18That's for £60 and three penalty points on their driving licence.

0:07:18 > 0:07:21If they're above that, we report them and they go to court.

0:07:21 > 0:07:24- So we could put someone in court today?- Yes.- Oh, yeah!

0:07:24 > 0:07:26We could, if anyone comes up here going too fast.

0:07:26 > 0:07:28It feels great to be out on the beat

0:07:28 > 0:07:30after the driving lesson. I think I've learned a lot

0:07:30 > 0:07:34about the speed limit and how much you should stick to it.

0:07:34 > 0:07:37Now, it's time for some real hands-on training.

0:07:37 > 0:07:40We've planted a Cop School car and a driver to come along this road.

0:07:40 > 0:07:43Now, Sergeant Styles is in on it.

0:07:43 > 0:07:48But what will the cadets do when she points out there's a problem?

0:07:48 > 0:07:52What else can we find to look at? I tell you what,

0:07:52 > 0:07:55that car didn't have any tax in the window. Somebody mark it down.

0:07:55 > 0:07:58- Somebody got their pen? You got it?- Yeah.

0:07:58 > 0:08:04DN09 UKK. Uniform kilo kilo.

0:08:04 > 0:08:07The other car is somewhere nearby. Shall we give them a call

0:08:07 > 0:08:10- and see if they want to stop it and just check it out?- Yeah.

0:08:10 > 0:08:11Oscar Sierra 27 receiving.

0:08:11 > 0:08:13The girls are a mile down the road,

0:08:13 > 0:08:15so let's see how the two teams work together.

0:08:15 > 0:08:17Oscar Sierra 27.

0:08:17 > 0:08:21Sierra 26 receiving from Sierra 27.

0:08:21 > 0:08:23Grey Vauxhall Corsa,

0:08:23 > 0:08:29registration is Delta November 09, Uniform Kilo Kilo.

0:08:29 > 0:08:32Didn't look like they had tax.

0:08:32 > 0:08:34Received.

0:08:34 > 0:08:37The boys have done their part, so it's down to the girls.

0:08:37 > 0:08:41Sergeant Merrett and I arrive to see how they're getting on.

0:08:41 > 0:08:43The Cop School car's just pulling in.

0:08:43 > 0:08:46Let's see how the girls deal with it now it's been pulled over.

0:08:46 > 0:08:48Do you have your driver licence with you?

0:08:48 > 0:08:50Yeah, it's in the car.

0:08:50 > 0:08:51Do you have your insurance?

0:08:51 > 0:08:53I don't have any insurance documents.

0:08:53 > 0:08:56- What's your name? - My name's Isabel Brooks.

0:08:56 > 0:08:58I would definitely like to be a traffic cop.

0:08:58 > 0:09:02You get to work with all the machines in the car, and then

0:09:02 > 0:09:07you get to go at really fast speeds and chase people and pull them over,

0:09:07 > 0:09:10and ask them loads of questions and be quite nosey.

0:09:10 > 0:09:12So they've got a driving licence.

0:09:12 > 0:09:15Nice to see that Jade's gone back with her. If it is someone

0:09:15 > 0:09:16that shouldn't be driving that car,

0:09:16 > 0:09:18- you want to keep an eye on her. - Absolutely.

0:09:18 > 0:09:21While the girls deal with the Cop School driver,

0:09:21 > 0:09:23a real life situation is unfolding around the corner.

0:09:23 > 0:09:25Junior has caught a driver

0:09:25 > 0:09:32speeding at 43mph in a 30mph zone, and Sergeant Styles pulls her over.

0:09:32 > 0:09:36Me and Junior and Sam were ecstatic, like, "Yeah, we've caught our first

0:09:36 > 0:09:40"criminal", and all that, cos, like, she was speeding in a 30mph zone.

0:09:40 > 0:09:42- So I was quite happy. - Hello, can you just come out

0:09:42 > 0:09:44and stand outside your car so I can have a quick word?

0:09:44 > 0:09:48The reason I stopped you is because you were exceeding the speed limit.

0:09:48 > 0:09:49There's a 30mph limit on this road,

0:09:49 > 0:09:52OK, and we just recorded you doing 43.

0:09:52 > 0:09:54I'm just going to give you a verbal warning

0:09:54 > 0:09:57because the device was being used by one of the cadets

0:09:57 > 0:09:59who's not trained. Have you got anything with

0:09:59 > 0:10:02you with your name and address on, just so I can check that.

0:10:02 > 0:10:03Just quite happy that we caught her.

0:10:03 > 0:10:05I'd quite like to take her to court,

0:10:05 > 0:10:07because there would be a bit more action.

0:10:07 > 0:10:11What would be interesting is if she had no insurance

0:10:11 > 0:10:13on the vehicle, that would be...

0:10:13 > 0:10:17- Yeah, that would be really good as well.- Insurance details are current.

0:10:17 > 0:10:20Lovely, thank you very much. There you go. That's fine.

0:10:20 > 0:10:22Her details check out. She's off the hook.

0:10:22 > 0:10:25Back with the girls, have they remembered

0:10:25 > 0:10:30why the Cop School driver was pulled over in the first place?

0:10:30 > 0:10:32That car didn't have any tax in the window.

0:10:32 > 0:10:34My colleagues up the road seem to think

0:10:34 > 0:10:37there's a problem with your tax disc.

0:10:37 > 0:10:38They seem to think it wasn't taxed.

0:10:38 > 0:10:41Oh, I'm really sorry, I just didn't notice that it was hanging off.

0:10:41 > 0:10:45- It has got its full tax disk. - Every car in the UK must display

0:10:45 > 0:10:49- a valid tax disc with the car's registration number.- OK,

0:10:49 > 0:10:52so if you read that out, and Jade, if you have a look at your details.

0:10:52 > 0:10:57Delta November 09, Uniform Kilo Kilo.

0:10:57 > 0:11:01- Yes, that's correct. - Well done. Good team work, cadets.

0:11:01 > 0:11:03Last check? Her insurance.

0:11:03 > 0:11:07I've got a lady at the side of the road here and

0:11:07 > 0:11:12her name is Isobel Brooks, and did she hire a car from Hertz Company?

0:11:12 > 0:11:14It's a metro blue Corsa.

0:11:14 > 0:11:16OK. She is insured to drive that vehicle.

0:11:16 > 0:11:20- So we can give her the driving licence back.- The lady's free to go.

0:11:20 > 0:11:23Job done, but the cadets are feeling the pressure.

0:11:23 > 0:11:27That task was really interesting, but it was like probably the most

0:11:27 > 0:11:28difficult task we had to do.

0:11:28 > 0:11:30I think overall, they've done very well.

0:11:30 > 0:11:34They've had to face some difficult things that they've not faced before.

0:11:34 > 0:11:36They all show a lot of promise.

0:11:36 > 0:11:40I'm cautious about the ones that show too much confidence.

0:11:40 > 0:11:45The public expects their police force to act professionally,

0:11:45 > 0:11:48behave professionally and part of that is looking the part as well.

0:11:48 > 0:11:52I always insist that my officers wear their hats when they're outside.

0:11:52 > 0:11:56I'll be mentioning that to them. I'll expect a raise in that standard.

0:11:59 > 0:12:02Back at base, mentor Sergeant Merrett is true to his word.

0:12:02 > 0:12:04You need to up your game a little bit.

0:12:04 > 0:12:06When you wear uniform out in the public domain,

0:12:06 > 0:12:07you will wear your hats

0:12:07 > 0:12:10at all times. You will look smart,

0:12:10 > 0:12:13and I think Megan's just got the point.

0:12:13 > 0:12:15- Is that understood?- Yes.

0:12:15 > 0:12:17- Once more, is that understood? - Yes, sir.

0:12:20 > 0:12:24Road traffic accidents are a large part of the traffic cop's work.

0:12:24 > 0:12:27Our cadets are about to get some important training

0:12:27 > 0:12:29and they better pay attention.

0:12:29 > 0:12:32OK, we're going to divide you up into two teams.

0:12:32 > 0:12:36Team A, you're with me, and Team B, off you go.

0:12:36 > 0:12:40At every major road collision, two separate police teams investigate

0:12:40 > 0:12:42what might have happened.

0:12:42 > 0:12:45Team A are being trained as crime scene managers.

0:12:45 > 0:12:50Their objective is to check casualties and keep the scene safe.

0:12:50 > 0:12:54By putting that sign with the arrow pointing this side, any cars

0:12:54 > 0:12:57are going to straight away see they can't come down here

0:12:57 > 0:13:01and you're keeping your scene, as crime scene manager, preserved.

0:13:01 > 0:13:06Meanwhile, Team B are training to become collision investigators.

0:13:06 > 0:13:09They'll use science to work out the speed

0:13:09 > 0:13:12the car was travelling at when the driver hit the brakes.

0:13:12 > 0:13:13Nice skid!

0:13:13 > 0:13:16Let's see that again.

0:13:16 > 0:13:20My gosh, there's loads of smoke.

0:13:20 > 0:13:22- Because what's burned? - The road. That's why...

0:13:22 > 0:13:24That's where the mark's left.

0:13:24 > 0:13:26By working out the length of the tyre marks,

0:13:26 > 0:13:30the cadets can calculate the speed the car was travelling at.

0:13:30 > 0:13:33Let's see if we can work out where they begin.

0:13:33 > 0:13:35The skid mark doesn't start from where you can

0:13:35 > 0:13:39see it visibly, so you have to kneel down to see it properly.

0:13:39 > 0:13:42I think you should be able to see it about here.

0:13:42 > 0:13:46Back with Team A, Megan's up to her old tricks.

0:13:46 > 0:13:49What did Sergeant Merrett say earlier on about standards of dress?

0:19:07 > 0:19:10But he has asked Sam to do it. I didn't tell him to do that.

0:19:10 > 0:19:13Sam? Can you come over here, please?

0:19:13 > 0:19:16I didn't tell you to do anything so you shouldn't have done that, OK?

0:19:16 > 0:19:20What do you want me to do at this moment in time?

0:19:20 > 0:19:23- Nathan, you're doing first aid, OK? - He asked for my help.

0:19:23 > 0:19:25I know, but he shouldn't have asked you that.

0:19:43 > 0:19:46I'm on my way home from shopping, we're running late.

0:19:46 > 0:19:47How long is all this going to take?

0:19:47 > 0:19:50It's very simple, the man is guilty.

0:19:50 > 0:19:54And now Megan is trying to assert her authority on the drivers.

0:19:54 > 0:19:58- Can you step over there, please? - It's where I live!- Excuse me.

0:19:58 > 0:20:02Megan, are you all right? You're the sergeant, you're doing my job, OK?

0:20:02 > 0:20:05You don't have to speak to the drivers or do a scene survey.

0:20:05 > 0:20:08Anyone in your team or both of the teams who is

0:20:08 > 0:20:10standing around not doing anything,

0:20:10 > 0:20:14you tell them what to do and then you're doing your job.

0:20:15 > 0:20:17Right, onto the witness.

0:20:17 > 0:20:19There was a big bang and I turned round and there was,

0:20:19 > 0:20:21like, debris flying everywhere.

0:20:21 > 0:20:23OK, so were you here?

0:20:23 > 0:20:25I was here, yeah. I was just here.

0:20:25 > 0:20:28Can you just stay here just for two seconds?

0:20:28 > 0:20:30- We are going to sort these two people out.- OK.

0:20:30 > 0:20:33Now, Jade, you can go and start doing impact.

0:20:33 > 0:20:38Jade and Nathan start to piece together what might have happened.

0:20:38 > 0:20:40She came down this road here

0:20:40 > 0:20:43and as he came down, this one has been coming along.

0:20:43 > 0:20:44So this is the lady's car?

0:20:44 > 0:20:46This is the lady's car.

0:20:46 > 0:20:48Right, OK.

0:20:48 > 0:20:51Can you see any tyre marks?

0:20:51 > 0:20:53Yes, there's loads of marks all up this way.

0:20:55 > 0:21:00The point of impact, I'm deducting, was on this point here.

0:21:00 > 0:21:03His right headlight and her left headlight have collided.

0:21:03 > 0:21:06That is where the point of impact is.

0:21:06 > 0:21:09Sam, Junior, I need you to help me do the tyre marks.

0:21:09 > 0:21:11By calculating her speed,

0:21:11 > 0:21:14they could find out if she was breaking the law.

0:21:14 > 0:21:18- You go and check which wheel is which.- OK.

0:21:22 > 0:21:26Meanwhile, Rebecca is questioning Damo.

0:21:26 > 0:21:28I've been driving two years, I've got nothing to hide.

0:21:28 > 0:21:31She comes out, giving it all that. I'm a hooligan and all this.

0:21:31 > 0:21:36She must have been going stupid mile an hour or something.

0:21:36 > 0:21:37How many miles were you driving?

0:21:37 > 0:21:40- Sorry? - How many miles were you driving?

0:21:40 > 0:21:43I was just turning out. So...five, ten? Not even that.

0:21:43 > 0:21:46She was the one who needs to watch her speed.

0:21:46 > 0:21:48These two are the woman's.

0:21:48 > 0:21:50There are no tyre marks coming out from where he was.

0:21:52 > 0:21:54So she was obviously going at some speed.

0:21:57 > 0:22:04- We'll measure from the left tyre mark, here.- No, I'm fine.

0:22:04 > 0:22:07- Excuse me, can you please put your phone away?- OK.

0:22:07 > 0:22:09Can you turn it off, please?

0:22:09 > 0:22:11It's not an offence to have my phone on, though.

0:22:11 > 0:22:16But using a handheld mobile phone when driving is illegal.

0:22:16 > 0:22:20Bu any chance, were you on the phone to anyone when...

0:22:20 > 0:22:22On the phone? No.

0:22:22 > 0:22:24Can I have your phone, please? It's part of procedure.

0:22:24 > 0:22:29- Now she can check. - Have you got that written down?

0:22:31 > 0:22:33I've got 30 metres 15.

0:22:36 > 0:22:41- Speed, mph? - More than 50 but less than 60.

0:22:41 > 0:22:43- Less than 60.- Well done, boys.

0:22:43 > 0:22:48You need to go and tell that to Jade and make sure she knows that.

0:22:48 > 0:22:52Megan, whilst you were doing that, what else did you confirm on

0:22:52 > 0:22:55- that phone?- That he wasn't on the phone at the time of the crash.

0:22:58 > 0:23:02Sam and Junior discuss their findings with the unhappy driver.

0:23:02 > 0:23:04We've recorded your tyre tracks.

0:23:04 > 0:23:09It's 30.15 metres long.

0:23:09 > 0:23:12What does that mean in plain English? I was doing about 25 to 30.

0:23:12 > 0:23:16Can we just take a look at your tax disc and any insurance details

0:23:16 > 0:23:17or any details from the car?

0:23:17 > 0:23:21You can do whatever you want, you really can.

0:23:21 > 0:23:23Jade identifies a critical piece of evidence.

0:23:23 > 0:23:25That's July.

0:23:25 > 0:23:29- It's out of date.- Good spot!

0:23:29 > 0:23:32- Good spot. Tax disc out of date. - Your tax disc is out of date.

0:23:32 > 0:23:35Have you got any insurance details with you?

0:23:35 > 0:23:37- My husband takes care of those things.- Worth a check.

0:23:37 > 0:23:39Both the traffic cars have got the computers in.

0:23:39 > 0:23:42They've got the facility to do the insurance check.

0:23:42 > 0:23:45And the licence check. That is one thing that they have missed.

0:23:45 > 0:23:47Or it certainly seems they have.

0:23:47 > 0:23:51- We are going to do a breathalyser on you.- I haven't been drinking.

0:23:51 > 0:23:53Just keep on blowing until I say stop.

0:23:53 > 0:23:57The cadets follow procedure and breathalyse both drivers.

0:23:57 > 0:24:01Keep going, keep going, keep going. Thank you.

0:24:01 > 0:24:05- Thank you.- I've never been so embarrassed in my life.

0:24:09 > 0:24:13- Zero for both.- Zero, OK. So you haven't been drinking.

0:24:13 > 0:24:16Time is up. So which driver was at fault?

0:24:16 > 0:24:19She is saying she was driving at 25 mph tops

0:24:19 > 0:24:22and the other driver pulled out.

0:24:22 > 0:24:26Her tax disc is out of date and she has no insurance details.

0:24:26 > 0:24:28We measured the speed marks from where she braked

0:24:28 > 0:24:30and altogether it was...

0:24:30 > 0:24:3630.15 metres. It basically says she was driving between 50 and 60 mph.

0:24:36 > 0:24:39I checked his phone and he wasn't on the phone and she made

0:24:39 > 0:24:41allegations that he was on the phone.

0:24:41 > 0:24:45And she lied about the speed she was going at.

0:24:45 > 0:24:48We've come to a conclusion? Right.

0:24:48 > 0:24:54OK, then, team. Who's going to tell me who, if anyone, is at fault?

0:24:54 > 0:24:57We came to the conclusion that the lady was guilty because she told us

0:24:57 > 0:25:00she was going 25 mph and she said that she

0:25:00 > 0:25:05wasn't speeding, but it turns out she was going in between 50 and 60 mph.

0:25:05 > 0:25:09- So as a group, you've decided the lady is at fault?- Yeah.

0:25:09 > 0:25:10So here's what actually happened.

0:25:10 > 0:25:12Pamela was breaking the law

0:25:12 > 0:25:14by driving a car without a valid tax disc.

0:25:14 > 0:25:19She was also driving dangerously, at 20 mph over the speed limit.

0:25:19 > 0:25:23Distracted by her ringing phone, she took her eyes off the road

0:25:23 > 0:25:27and crashed straight into an innocent Damo.

0:25:27 > 0:25:31That was tough. Sergeant Merrett and myself have got a lot to discuss.

0:25:31 > 0:25:34What went right and what went wrong. And also, who deserves to be Top Cop

0:25:34 > 0:25:37or Top Cops for your time here at the traffic school. OK?

0:25:41 > 0:25:44OK, we've got to somehow pick out the Top Cops out of this lot.

0:25:44 > 0:25:46I think they all did pretty well.

0:25:46 > 0:25:47Very hard.

0:25:47 > 0:25:51Megan took control, eventually. The situation was quite volatile.

0:25:51 > 0:25:54- She did delegate those jobs to the rest of the troops, didn't she?- Yes.

0:25:54 > 0:25:58It was a stressful situation, but overall she performed very well.

0:25:58 > 0:26:01Jade, very good. When she was speaking to the driver

0:26:01 > 0:26:04of the green car, everyone could see how aggressive that driver was.

0:26:04 > 0:26:06So she did really well.

0:26:06 > 0:26:09- Rebecca.- She marked out the cones initially, she got straight in.

0:26:09 > 0:26:12She had her delegated task and she got on with it.

0:26:12 > 0:26:14- What about Junior? - Very enthusiastic.

0:26:14 > 0:26:17He remembered his lesson of measuring the tyre marks

0:26:17 > 0:26:20and he was the one that was coming up with the maths

0:26:20 > 0:26:21to give us the evidence.

0:26:21 > 0:26:25Yes, they got to the right conclusion. Missed a few things out

0:26:25 > 0:26:27but in the end, they found out what we needed.

0:26:30 > 0:26:36So, three of you will be rewarded with an amazing treat.

0:26:36 > 0:26:38The three that we've chosen

0:26:38 > 0:26:42are going to get to go on the Traffic Cops skid-pan...

0:26:42 > 0:26:46- Told you!- ..which is covered in tonnes of oil and water.

0:26:46 > 0:26:50So you three will be in for an amazing hair-raising

0:26:50 > 0:26:53and slippery ride!

0:26:53 > 0:26:56Unfortunately, the other three will be on cleaning duty

0:26:56 > 0:27:01- and cleaning the traffic cars. - Woo(!)- Yeah(!)- Yay(!)

0:27:01 > 0:27:03THEY LAUGH

0:27:03 > 0:27:08So, the three Sergeant Merrett and myself have decided

0:27:08 > 0:27:13are worthy of Top Cops for today's challenge are...

0:27:25 > 0:27:30- ..Jade, Rebecca and Megan.- Yay!

0:27:30 > 0:27:35- Sorry, I didn't think it was going to be all female!- Girl Power!

0:27:35 > 0:27:37- High five!- Yes!

0:27:37 > 0:27:41Next time at Cop School, it's all about balance.

0:27:41 > 0:27:43Don't let that case touch the floor.

0:27:43 > 0:27:47The cadets are trained in crime scene investigation.

0:27:47 > 0:27:52And they get suited and booted for their toughest challenge yet.

0:27:52 > 0:27:53We've only got one minute left.

0:27:53 > 0:27:57THEY SCREAM

0:27:57 > 0:27:59Yes!

0:27:59 > 0:28:00Whoo!
