0:00:03 > 0:00:08On Deadly 60 I've had loads of incredible animal encounters.
0:00:08 > 0:00:11Here's just one of my many favourites.
0:00:11 > 0:00:12HE SCREAMS
0:00:12 > 0:00:16This is Deadly 60 Bites.
0:00:16 > 0:00:21I'm in South Africa to search for one of nature's ultimate hunters -
0:00:21 > 0:00:23the great white shark.
0:00:25 > 0:00:29Great white sharks actually pose very little threat to people.
0:00:29 > 0:00:33Almost all attacks are cases of mistaken identity.
0:00:33 > 0:00:38Their main source of food in this part of the world is seals.
0:00:38 > 0:00:42When it's hungry, it patrols deep under the ocean surface
0:00:42 > 0:00:45waiting for an unsuspecting seal.
0:00:45 > 0:00:49Then, bang! The shark launches itself like a missile at its victim.
0:00:55 > 0:00:59The force of the attack fatally wounds the seal
0:00:59 > 0:01:02before the shark returns to finish it off.
0:01:06 > 0:01:09Using fearsome teeth and jaws, this two-tonne killing machine
0:01:09 > 0:01:12thrashes and tears its prey into pieces
0:01:12 > 0:01:15before devouring it, bite by bite.
0:01:25 > 0:01:27Right, time to focus.
0:01:27 > 0:01:32We're heading out to meet one of the most awesome killers on the planet!
0:01:36 > 0:01:40Normally, you'd never consider looking for a great white shark
0:01:40 > 0:01:43in weather like this. But we're desperate.
0:01:45 > 0:01:48We managed to get out beyond the breakers, out to sea.
0:01:48 > 0:01:53It was a bit like riding a very soggy rollercoaster.
0:01:53 > 0:01:55We're all a bit damp now, to say the least.
0:01:55 > 0:01:59The conditions are about as bad as they possibly could be.
0:01:59 > 0:02:03Looking down into the water, it's really murky and horrid.
0:02:03 > 0:02:06If we were to actually dive in that,
0:02:06 > 0:02:09we wouldn't see the sharks until they were right on top of us
0:02:09 > 0:02:11so that's out of the question.
0:02:11 > 0:02:14What we will do, though, is put some "shum" in the water.
0:02:14 > 0:02:17It's fish blood and fish oil.
0:02:17 > 0:02:19Hopefully that will attract some sharks up.
0:02:19 > 0:02:23I think now, to see a glimpse of a shark from the surface
0:02:23 > 0:02:25is the best we could expect.
0:02:25 > 0:02:31Of course, these waves will be no problem for our highly-trained team
0:02:31 > 0:02:32who all have their sea legs.
0:02:34 > 0:02:36MAN VOMITS OVERBOARD
0:02:36 > 0:02:40Our cameraman's not feeling very well!
0:02:42 > 0:02:45All right, guys. It's those biscuits!
0:02:47 > 0:02:50Shark! Great white shark!
0:02:51 > 0:02:55Oh, look at this! It's an active one as well.
0:02:55 > 0:02:57Come right up to the surface.
0:02:59 > 0:03:02Oh, wow!
0:03:05 > 0:03:07Good action. Good action.
0:03:12 > 0:03:13Whoa!
0:03:17 > 0:03:20She is big!
0:03:20 > 0:03:23Coming right underneath the boat right now! Look!
0:03:23 > 0:03:25She's coming round the other side!
0:03:25 > 0:03:27How big do you think, Mark?
0:03:27 > 0:03:30A good size. At least three-and-a-half.
0:03:30 > 0:03:33She looks to me to be as long as a mini-bus!
0:03:43 > 0:03:46She's come back round! She's here again!
0:03:46 > 0:03:49Oh, look at that!
0:03:55 > 0:04:00The shark has just completely ripped the bait off the line.
0:04:00 > 0:04:04We're trying to put some new stuff on, hoping she's not gone for good
0:04:04 > 0:04:06and she'll be back to play.
0:04:06 > 0:04:10But it's an awful job, particularly for the cameraman.
0:04:10 > 0:04:13We're being tossed around like we're on a bucking bronco
0:04:13 > 0:04:16so trying to film the shark is next to impossible.
0:04:17 > 0:04:19She's come back round. She's here.
0:04:19 > 0:04:21Oh, look at that!
0:04:21 > 0:04:23Oh, wow!
0:04:25 > 0:04:28Oh, my life! Look at the size of her!
0:04:28 > 0:04:31This is unbelievable.
0:04:31 > 0:04:34Here it comes. She's going to hit the bait any second.
0:04:35 > 0:04:37Oh, my goodness!
0:04:38 > 0:04:42This one is a proper, proper shark.
0:04:48 > 0:04:50Unbelievable.
0:04:50 > 0:04:53This is a much smaller shark, a different one.
0:04:53 > 0:04:57It's absolutely death-rolling over the bait.
0:04:57 > 0:05:00I think I got a shot on the camera. She came right up close.
0:05:03 > 0:05:05Look at this!
0:05:07 > 0:05:10This is absolute chaos!
0:05:10 > 0:05:13We're being tossed all over the place by the waves
0:05:13 > 0:05:17and we've had two Great Whites right up close to us.
0:05:18 > 0:05:21Look, they've shredded the rope and the buoy.
0:05:21 > 0:05:22Look!
0:05:22 > 0:05:25Torn to shreds by those teeth.
0:05:25 > 0:05:27They've ripped the rope to bits.
0:05:27 > 0:05:31That's all that's left of the giant fish we had on there as bait.
0:05:31 > 0:05:33Here it is again.
0:05:33 > 0:05:37Oh! It just swam right alongside me.
0:05:37 > 0:05:40This time she's coming up to the bait.
0:05:43 > 0:05:46Magnificent! What an extraordinary creature!
0:05:52 > 0:05:54Oh, my goodness!
0:05:54 > 0:05:57She just touched the camera in my hand!
0:06:00 > 0:06:02This is amazing!
0:06:06 > 0:06:08Despite all the evidence
0:06:08 > 0:06:13about how little danger sharks actually pose to humans,
0:06:13 > 0:06:17this is still the most feared animal in the world.
0:06:17 > 0:06:20But that's not why she's going on my Deadly 60.
0:06:20 > 0:06:24She's going on my list because she's magnificent.
0:06:25 > 0:06:28Super senses, cutting teeth,
0:06:28 > 0:06:29and raw power.
0:06:29 > 0:06:34The Great White could probably eat everything else on the Deadly 60!
0:06:34 > 0:06:37Surely no-one will argue with them going on our list!
