0:00:30 > 0:00:34their socks off to help wounded wildlife and poorly pets.

0:00:34 > 0:00:38And we've managed to get VIP passes for willing helpers to get stuck

0:00:38 > 0:00:42in at the busiest vets, wildlife sanctuaries and rescue centres.

0:00:42 > 0:00:43Rats!

0:00:43 > 0:00:46It's tough and dirty work but somebody has got to do it.

0:00:46 > 0:00:49On today's show Georgia

0:00:49 > 0:00:53and Tenisha organise a cliff top getaway for Janet the Gannet.

0:00:55 > 0:00:59Zeeshan and Sercan get to the heart of a horse's troublesome ticker.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01Oh, look at that.

0:01:01 > 0:01:05And Dom has to handle the inside of a rattlesnake's rest room.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07Come on.

0:01:07 > 0:01:12Come on, come on, aren't you going to be late for work?

0:01:12 > 0:01:13Are you sure this is safe?

0:01:13 > 0:01:14Yes, this is a magic door.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17It can transport you to wherever you need to go.

0:01:17 > 0:01:19How does it know where I want to go?

0:01:19 > 0:01:21It can read your mind.

0:01:25 > 0:01:31I've just been. Shall we try again.

0:01:34 > 0:01:36Better.

0:01:36 > 0:01:39Here at Secret World they have a team of dedicated staff who

0:01:39 > 0:01:42make it their mission to take in poorly,

0:01:42 > 0:01:45unwanted and sick animals, nurse them back to health

0:01:45 > 0:01:48and then eventually release them back to the wild.

0:01:49 > 0:01:52And today's dedicated helpers are Georgia and Tenisha.

0:01:52 > 0:01:55Georgia likes all things wild.

0:01:55 > 0:01:59But she's down on dreary doggies and mundane moggies.

0:01:59 > 0:02:02It's quite boring as well, it's like seeing dogs every single day

0:02:02 > 0:02:05and like seeing cats every single day.

0:02:06 > 0:02:07I'd like to see a badger.

0:02:07 > 0:02:11I would like the experience to like maybe stroke one or hold one

0:02:11 > 0:02:12or something.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15Tenisha is not a fan of flappy things.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18In fact, most pesky pets get right up her nose.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20I don't know why, but they like to do all their droppings

0:02:20 > 0:02:25in our front garden. It's not very nice and believe me it smells.

0:02:25 > 0:02:26Go away. You are annoying.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28Just go!

0:02:28 > 0:02:32Unfortunately, it could be a bit of a stinky one today, because you are

0:02:32 > 0:02:35heading down to one of the biggest wildlife rescue centres in the UK.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38Georgia. Tenisha, welcome to Dick and Dom Go Wild.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41- You are all right. Pleased to be here?- Yeah.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43Fabulous. We have got two containers here.

0:02:43 > 0:02:47One's got my breakfast and the other one has got breakfast for an animal.

0:02:47 > 0:02:51Whichever one you choose you have to feed that to the relevant party.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53This one. So if you take that one.

0:02:53 > 0:02:57See which one you have got. You've got my lunch. Only joking.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00That is most certainly meal worms for an animal.

0:03:00 > 0:03:02We will do all this later.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05You guys go and get your togs on and go and get all scrubbed up

0:03:05 > 0:03:09because you are going to get messy. Go on. Go and get changed.

0:03:09 > 0:03:11Why so messy? Well this place takes in

0:03:11 > 0:03:144,000 needy wild animals every year.

0:03:14 > 0:03:15It's going to be a busy one.

0:03:15 > 0:03:19Sara. Good to be back at Secret World.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21Now Tenisha has got a big box of meal worms.

0:03:21 > 0:03:22What are they doing to do with them?

0:03:22 > 0:03:24You are going to help me feed some very hungry little mouths

0:03:24 > 0:03:26and that's feeding baby birds.

0:03:26 > 0:03:28- You think you can handle that? - Yeah.

0:03:28 > 0:03:32I know you are scared of all things flappy, which covers bats and birds.

0:03:32 > 0:03:35You should be OK. You are in very safe hands.

0:03:35 > 0:03:38- They are only little. - Off you go.

0:03:38 > 0:03:40Tenisha might not be big on birds, but just maybe these little

0:03:40 > 0:03:44rescued orphans might help change all of that.

0:03:44 > 0:03:46- They are so small.- So cute.

0:03:46 > 0:03:49These tiny swallow chicks were found abandoned on the ground after

0:03:49 > 0:03:52- falling from their nest. - This the biggest one.

0:03:52 > 0:03:54He's about three weeks. This is a little swallow.

0:03:54 > 0:03:56They can't be returned to their nests,

0:03:56 > 0:03:58but they are getting well looked after here.

0:03:58 > 0:04:00So they come here just for a few days

0:04:00 > 0:04:03and as soon as he's flying we will let him go.

0:04:03 > 0:04:07- Before that they need plenty of food.- OK.

0:04:07 > 0:04:10Now you need to start with the ones that are opening their mouths

0:04:10 > 0:04:12and just keep going until they stop.

0:04:12 > 0:04:15They will probably take quite a few. There we go. Lovely.

0:04:15 > 0:04:17I think they are really really cute.

0:04:17 > 0:04:19They are aren't they. They are quite cheeky.

0:04:19 > 0:04:21Do you want to give them a little bit of water as well.

0:04:21 > 0:04:23What we do to give them

0:04:23 > 0:04:28water is gently pop a little paint brush into your bowl

0:04:28 > 0:04:31and then exactly the same and just let them suck the water off there.

0:04:31 > 0:04:33A flying start girls.

0:04:33 > 0:04:35Your brush with the baby birds have given them

0:04:35 > 0:04:38a real chance of reaching for the skies very soon.

0:04:38 > 0:04:41And later, the lightest of touches if needed when Georgia

0:04:41 > 0:04:44and Tenisha help a blonde hedgehog.

0:04:44 > 0:04:46He feels nice.

0:04:46 > 0:04:49But first, Dick and his team nurse nags in Norfolk.

0:04:49 > 0:04:51Here at Redwings they give the horses,

0:04:51 > 0:04:54donkeys and ponies plenty of much-needed care and attention.

0:04:54 > 0:04:57Their mission is to get as many of them re-homed as possible.

0:04:57 > 0:05:00If not, they will spend the rest of their lives here at the sanctuary.

0:05:00 > 0:05:03Today, I've got two helpers who will hopefully be chomping at the bit

0:05:03 > 0:05:06and won't fall at the first fence.

0:05:06 > 0:05:08Let's meet them.

0:05:08 > 0:05:11Meet Sercan and Zeeshan who find animals a bit hit and miss.

0:05:12 > 0:05:15Sercan is an animal lover, mostly.

0:05:15 > 0:05:18Huge, hairy spiders freak him..

0:05:18 > 0:05:21Really big spiders like tarantulas and...

0:05:21 > 0:05:24I feel them crawling up my sleeve and I was like screaming.

0:05:26 > 0:05:29Zeeshan is not crazy about cats and kittens.

0:05:29 > 0:05:32But this lad loves easy-to-handle scaly things.

0:05:32 > 0:05:35If I was going to have an animal and it would be a fish, because

0:05:35 > 0:05:39they are easy to look after and it doesn't actually scare anyone.

0:05:42 > 0:05:46- Right lads, giddy up. - we've got some animals to work with.

0:05:46 > 0:05:50Ah, Sercan and Zeeshan the city boys. Welcome to the countryside.

0:05:50 > 0:05:53I bet living in the city you don't see many animals.

0:05:53 > 0:05:55You don't see any animals there.

0:05:55 > 0:05:56You once got kicked by a horse?

0:05:56 > 0:06:00Yes, I was in Turkey and I tried to stroke the horse,

0:06:00 > 0:06:02but it kicked me on the back.

0:06:02 > 0:06:03- Did it hurt?- Yeah. - Are you OK with horses now?

0:06:03 > 0:06:05- Yeah.- That is a good thing, because today

0:06:05 > 0:06:08you are at the Redwings Horse Sanctuary,

0:06:08 > 0:06:11so we'll be meeting many of them. Right. Put these on and let's do it.

0:06:13 > 0:06:18The staff here look after more than 1,000 mistreated or homeless horses.

0:06:18 > 0:06:21Arriving here is often a life changing experience

0:06:21 > 0:06:23and the team work hard to make lovely for them again.

0:06:26 > 0:06:29First up for our new team members

0:06:29 > 0:06:32it's a busy round of check ups with vet nurse, Ray.

0:06:32 > 0:06:36- So who is this?- This is Snow White. - Why is she here?

0:06:36 > 0:06:39Snow White was part of a big rescue that we done in January 2008.

0:06:39 > 0:06:42She came in as a part of that rescue with a hundred other horses.

0:06:42 > 0:06:44So we took in an awful lot in the one go.

0:06:44 > 0:06:47- What is wrong with her?- She's got a really, really poorly eye.

0:06:47 > 0:06:48We are going to get you guys

0:06:48 > 0:06:51- to help us treat her this morning if that's OK.- OK.

0:06:51 > 0:06:54Sad Snow White and her pals were rescued from terrible conditions

0:06:54 > 0:06:56all were underweight and unwell.

0:06:56 > 0:06:59Life's improving for the Shetland pony,

0:06:59 > 0:07:01but she still needs a lot of medical care.

0:07:01 > 0:07:04OK, guys, so we are going to take her sunglasses off...

0:07:04 > 0:07:09if you want to pull the visor off just so that it comes over her ears.

0:07:09 > 0:07:11Do you fancy just taking that off.

0:07:11 > 0:07:15- Brilliant. Brilliant work. Well done. - How did the horse get poorly eyes?

0:07:15 > 0:07:18They can get it for all sorts of reasons,

0:07:18 > 0:07:22but she's probably banged it on something really badly.

0:07:22 > 0:07:25It looks a little bit horrible doesn't it. It's all red and nasty.

0:07:25 > 0:07:28That's because she had what we call an ulcer

0:07:28 > 0:07:30and it was a really really bad nasty ulcer.

0:07:30 > 0:07:33- Can you see this funny tube that we've got going on here.- Yeah.

0:07:33 > 0:07:36It actually pumps the medication straight into her eye all day long

0:07:36 > 0:07:39so that her eye is getting better all the time.

0:07:39 > 0:07:41You fancy shining that light in the eye. If you come close to her,

0:07:41 > 0:07:44get you to shine that light in the eye.

0:07:44 > 0:07:46Can you see how it makes it look a little lighter.

0:07:46 > 0:07:50Can you see how it looks a little bit dimply in the middle there.

0:07:50 > 0:07:51Yes, it's like a little lump.

0:07:51 > 0:07:55That's exactly right. That is where the ulcer actually was.

0:07:55 > 0:07:57That is the really sore bit.

0:07:57 > 0:08:00Now, looking at it this morning it looks like it's doing quite well.

0:08:00 > 0:08:02It's a little bit sore,

0:08:02 > 0:08:06but that's why we've got the medication going in to help it out.

0:08:06 > 0:08:09With the eye checked, the protective visor goes back on.

0:08:09 > 0:08:11There you go. Good girl.

0:08:11 > 0:08:13And with more TLC and a bit of luck,

0:08:13 > 0:08:16Snow White should make a complete recovery.

0:08:17 > 0:08:19And later, Sercan and Zeeshan

0:08:19 > 0:08:21work to make Bobby look like a dazzler again.

0:08:21 > 0:08:24He's a very good boy in taking his medicines again isn't he?

0:08:24 > 0:08:26He really likes them.

0:08:28 > 0:08:29Back at the rescue centre,

0:08:29 > 0:08:33Georgia and Tenisha are working hard with rescued animals.

0:08:33 > 0:08:35The next job I've got lined up for you is to clean out

0:08:35 > 0:08:37some baby hedgehogs.

0:08:37 > 0:08:40Er, right, there could be a bit of an issue here.

0:08:40 > 0:08:44I don't really like hedgehogs, because you go up to them

0:08:44 > 0:08:46and start smoothing them and you are trying to be friendly

0:08:46 > 0:08:49and then out from nowhere comes like these spikes.

0:08:49 > 0:08:52Five week old Blondie was brought in a week ago after being found

0:08:52 > 0:08:55wandering in a garden in the daytime, a worrying sight

0:08:55 > 0:08:59because healthy hedgehogs are normally only up and about at night.

0:08:59 > 0:09:03So you can see he's really unusual and all his spines are very light.

0:09:03 > 0:09:05He's not what we call an Albino,

0:09:05 > 0:09:08because he's got proper normal black eyes.

0:09:08 > 0:09:11He's just like a normal hedgehog that's been born with blonde hair.

0:09:11 > 0:09:14Do you think he will be living in the wild again or...

0:09:14 > 0:09:17With this little hedgehog we are probably going to actually

0:09:17 > 0:09:20end up having to keep him, because it just makes him

0:09:20 > 0:09:22much more vulnerable, because he's really obvious.

0:09:23 > 0:09:28Looks like Tenisha is softening her stance on spiny hogs.

0:09:29 > 0:09:31It feels nice.

0:09:31 > 0:09:33He's not prickly really is he.

0:09:33 > 0:09:34You feel how soft their tummy is.

0:09:34 > 0:09:37They haven't got spines on their tummy and it's all soft and furry.

0:09:37 > 0:09:42You must be making Blondie feel all relaxed, Tenisha, because hedgehogs

0:09:42 > 0:09:46roll into a ball and become spiky when they feel threatened.

0:09:46 > 0:09:47Do they eat a lot?

0:09:48 > 0:09:51They eat a lot and they also poo a lot.

0:09:51 > 0:09:55The next thing we've got to do, we are going to clean out the poo

0:09:55 > 0:09:56and give them some breakfast.

0:09:56 > 0:09:59Just when hedgehogs were starting to feel so appealing,

0:09:59 > 0:10:00there is hard graft to do.

0:10:02 > 0:10:06Might be a bit pongy, but our new hedgehog helpers get stuck in.

0:10:06 > 0:10:09- Stinks, doesn't it.- Yeah.

0:10:09 > 0:10:12Then they serve up a breaky of meaty cat food which hedgehogs love.

0:10:14 > 0:10:16Nice new home. You should like this.

0:10:18 > 0:10:20That's one nice and full hedgehog in a spotless home.

0:10:20 > 0:10:21Good work, girls.

0:10:21 > 0:10:25The poo was really disgusting. I would hate to clean that out.

0:10:25 > 0:10:29We had to really, because we want the hedgehogs to be living

0:10:29 > 0:10:30in a happy clean environment.

0:10:33 > 0:10:36And later, Georgia and Tenisha help tattoo a rescued badger!

0:10:36 > 0:10:38This is so cool, isn't it, Georgia?

0:10:38 > 0:10:39Yeah.

0:10:42 > 0:10:44Sercan and Zeeshan are proving they have an eye for helping

0:10:44 > 0:10:46horses at a sanctuary in Norfolk.

0:10:46 > 0:10:50It's all go here and a new patient needs their attention now.

0:10:50 > 0:10:53This is Bobby. Can you see how different

0:10:53 > 0:10:54Bobby looks to the last horse that we saw.

0:10:54 > 0:10:57You see how he has a really bald looking head?

0:10:57 > 0:10:59He has no hair on him does he?

0:10:59 > 0:11:02That is because Bobby had a really nasty reaction

0:11:02 > 0:11:04to a medication that he had.

0:11:04 > 0:11:0719-year-old, Bobby came here 10 years ago

0:11:07 > 0:11:12because he got panicky whenever anybody tried to ride him.

0:11:12 > 0:11:14Now what we're going to do is give Bobby some medicine

0:11:14 > 0:11:16and that is going to help his skin

0:11:16 > 0:11:18and it's going to stop him itching.

0:11:18 > 0:11:19- So you guys up for that?- Yeah.

0:11:19 > 0:11:21The antibiotics and steroids

0:11:21 > 0:11:24are carefully hidden in amongst his nosh.

0:11:24 > 0:11:26If you hold your hands really closely together,

0:11:26 > 0:11:29that's perfect and we will do the same to you.

0:11:29 > 0:11:31And then what we are going to do,

0:11:31 > 0:11:34we are just going to hold it under Bobby's nose, so if you keep

0:11:34 > 0:11:36your hands nice and flat and Bobby is just going to nibble on that.

0:11:36 > 0:11:38He's a very good boy at taking his medicines, isn't he?

0:11:38 > 0:11:40He really likes them.

0:11:40 > 0:11:42What we will do is we will get you to do that as well.

0:11:42 > 0:11:44He really tickles.

0:11:44 > 0:11:46Yeah.

0:11:46 > 0:11:48How long to do you think it will take for Bobby's hair to grow back.

0:11:48 > 0:11:50It's going to take a little bit of time.

0:11:50 > 0:11:52Probably in sort of two or three weeks he's going to be

0:11:52 > 0:11:55looking an awful lot more like a much more normal horse again

0:11:55 > 0:11:56with his coat back a bit more.

0:11:56 > 0:11:58That's impressive work, lads.

0:11:58 > 0:12:01Not a sign of Sercan's horse hesitancy either.

0:12:01 > 0:12:04When I was younger, I got kicked by a horse.

0:12:04 > 0:12:06But now I feel I'm really confident with horses,

0:12:06 > 0:12:11because they are really friendly and Bobby was a really nice horse.

0:12:12 > 0:12:16I've never seen a hairless horse. I've only seen a hairless cat.

0:12:16 > 0:12:19It was really funny when we had to feed Bobby

0:12:19 > 0:12:23because it was like ticklish, because he was like munching away.

0:12:25 > 0:12:29And later, Sercan and Zeeshan get to the heart of horse Tracy's

0:12:29 > 0:12:31health issue.

0:12:34 > 0:12:35Lub-dub, lub-dub.

0:12:37 > 0:12:40But first, Dom is rattled by killer critters.

0:12:41 > 0:12:44It's raining cats and pigs out there.

0:12:44 > 0:12:47Forget the rain. This is the door of death.

0:12:47 > 0:12:48CRACK OF THUNDER

0:12:48 > 0:12:51Behind there are one hundred beasties

0:12:51 > 0:12:54that could blind, maim and kill you.

0:12:55 > 0:12:58And Dom's job today is to enter this room

0:12:58 > 0:13:01and help clean up the home of one of these snakes.

0:13:01 > 0:13:03The Western Diamond Back Rattlesnake.

0:13:03 > 0:13:07A bite from this venomous critter would feel like hot needles

0:13:07 > 0:13:08entering your skin

0:13:08 > 0:13:12and the highly toxic venom could rot your flesh and even kill you.

0:13:12 > 0:13:14Hang on a minute.

0:13:14 > 0:13:17How come I get to go in there and get killed to death?

0:13:17 > 0:13:18You just stay here doing nowt.

0:13:18 > 0:13:20Nowt? I'm going to be holding the blooming thing.

0:13:20 > 0:13:23- That is cheating.- Only a bit.

0:13:23 > 0:13:24Dom needs to enter the room of death

0:13:24 > 0:13:28and clean out the rattlesnake's enclosure.

0:13:28 > 0:13:30So, Mark, what are the creatures we've got in here?

0:13:30 > 0:13:32We've got cobras. They can kill you.

0:13:33 > 0:13:35We've got things like death stalker scorpions.

0:13:35 > 0:13:37So what kind of scorpions?

0:13:37 > 0:13:41- Death Stalker scorpions.- Right.

0:13:41 > 0:13:42I would focus on the cleaning task

0:13:42 > 0:13:45and getting out of there as soon as you can, old mate.

0:13:45 > 0:13:47OK. Let's glove up and get on.

0:13:47 > 0:13:49Yes.

0:13:49 > 0:13:51I wonder what rattlesnake poo looks like.

0:13:51 > 0:13:53It's not like dog poo, is it?

0:13:55 > 0:13:57Nope, no-one in there.

0:14:01 > 0:14:03There you go. How bizarre.

0:14:03 > 0:14:05It's snake poo actually, Dom

0:14:05 > 0:14:08Looks like it's got fur in it or something.

0:14:09 > 0:14:11It's exactly what it is.

0:14:11 > 0:14:13Is it? Why, what does it eat?

0:14:13 > 0:14:15It eats rodents such as mice.

0:14:15 > 0:14:20Nothing for me to do now. Maybe I'll have a sandwich.

0:14:20 > 0:14:21Not sandwiches!

0:14:23 > 0:14:24No, no, not in there!

0:14:27 > 0:14:32What? The snake is over there.

0:14:35 > 0:14:37At the rescue centre in Somerset,

0:14:37 > 0:14:40Georgia and Tenisha are taking a walk on the wild side.

0:14:42 > 0:14:46As animal care manager, Sara needs some help with another patient.

0:14:46 > 0:14:52- Wow. That is quite a strong smell. What is in the box?- I will show you.

0:14:53 > 0:14:56I've never seen a badger before.

0:14:56 > 0:14:58I've never seen a badger before.

0:14:59 > 0:15:01I would like to touch one and hold one.

0:15:01 > 0:15:05Well them, meet Lush, a very tough badger cub.

0:15:05 > 0:15:06She's been a little miracle.

0:15:06 > 0:15:10The four year old was found on a roadside two weeks ago,

0:15:10 > 0:15:12disorientated and very ill.

0:15:12 > 0:15:16She was totally collapsed and she looked as if she was dead, really.

0:15:16 > 0:15:20Miraculously, last week she took her first steps and actually stood

0:15:20 > 0:15:23and she's now ready to actually go back to the wild.

0:15:25 > 0:15:28Before that, the team are going to put an identity tattoo on her.

0:15:32 > 0:15:34You on there and you on there.

0:15:34 > 0:15:37A permanent marking will make it easier to identify her

0:15:37 > 0:15:40if ever she's in need of human help again in the future.

0:15:42 > 0:15:45First the team must give Lush an anaesthetic jab

0:15:45 > 0:15:48so she can snooze through the delicate process.

0:15:48 > 0:15:49She's completely asleep now.

0:15:49 > 0:15:52You can have a really good look at her, because you'll probably never

0:15:52 > 0:15:55ever get the opportunity to come near a badger again.

0:15:55 > 0:15:57You can have a look and see just how long her claws are.

0:15:57 > 0:15:59She uses those for digging

0:15:59 > 0:16:02to make great big places to live underground.

0:16:02 > 0:16:05What is the tattoo?

0:16:05 > 0:16:07It's a series of different numbers.

0:16:07 > 0:16:09The first two numbers are the number of badger that has come

0:16:09 > 0:16:14into the centre, so that's the 26th badger we've had so far this year.

0:16:14 > 0:16:17The second two numbers are the years and then a 'W'

0:16:17 > 0:16:21at the end which means that she came from Secret World.

0:16:21 > 0:16:24What we do is, if you put a little blob of that jelly

0:16:24 > 0:16:28and just rub it neatly over the top of the numbers it just keeps

0:16:28 > 0:16:30it nice and soft as it heals.

0:16:30 > 0:16:33This is so cool isn't it, Georgia?

0:16:33 > 0:16:35Yeah.

0:16:35 > 0:16:37And our loyal badger lovers stay at Lush's side

0:16:37 > 0:16:39until she comes round from her deep sleep.

0:16:41 > 0:16:42Are you going to wake up now?

0:16:42 > 0:16:44Are you going to stand up.

0:16:44 > 0:16:46She's going to feel a little bit woozy for a while.

0:16:46 > 0:16:49There we go. Lifting her head up now.

0:16:51 > 0:16:54Doing the tattoo in the room I thought was like really amazing

0:16:54 > 0:16:56and really good and cool.

0:16:56 > 0:16:58I'm really proud of what I've done,

0:16:58 > 0:17:02because I know I've just helped an animal that's almost lost its life.

0:17:07 > 0:17:11And later, Georgia and Tenisha get ready to release Janet the gannet.

0:17:11 > 0:17:13What do you think, girls? Ready for release?

0:17:13 > 0:17:16I think we'd best get her in the box before she gets really angry.

0:17:18 > 0:17:20Sercan and Zeeshan are helping horses

0:17:20 > 0:17:24at a huge sanctuary in the UK.

0:17:24 > 0:17:27Vet Nicky is concerned for one of the poorly residents.

0:17:27 > 0:17:30This is Tracy. She's only five years old.

0:17:30 > 0:17:33She's got a bit of a heart problem and it's something we need to

0:17:33 > 0:17:38investigate further, so we know whether or not we can rehome her.

0:17:38 > 0:17:40How big are horse's hearts?

0:17:40 > 0:17:44In a horse of this size, her heart is going to be about this big.

0:17:44 > 0:17:45As big as your head.

0:17:45 > 0:17:47It's pretty pretty huge.

0:17:47 > 0:17:51That heart has to work really hard and has to be very efficient.

0:17:51 > 0:17:54If there is something wrong with it probably means she's not

0:17:54 > 0:17:56suitable to go to a new home.

0:17:56 > 0:17:58A heart acts just like a pump

0:17:58 > 0:18:02and Nicky suspects Tracy may have a bit of a blockage.

0:18:02 > 0:18:03Using a stethoscope,

0:18:03 > 0:18:07our vets in training need to help check Tracy's ticker.

0:18:07 > 0:18:08Sercan has a listen first.

0:18:08 > 0:18:10lub dub, lub dub, lub dub.

0:18:18 > 0:18:19So am I right in thinking,

0:18:19 > 0:18:24some of those gaps sounded a bit too long didn't they.

0:18:24 > 0:18:27Now Zeeshan steps in to give a second opinion.

0:18:29 > 0:18:32Did you notice some longer gaps in there?

0:18:32 > 0:18:36- Yeah.- It might be a good idea to go and do some further tests.

0:18:36 > 0:18:41Today's tests will help Nicky decide on horse Tracy's future.

0:18:41 > 0:18:43If her heart condition is serious, she will live out

0:18:43 > 0:18:46the rest of her life here under the close supervision of the team.

0:18:46 > 0:18:48Zeeshan has got his hands on a hi-tech scanner

0:18:48 > 0:18:50that uses ultrasound.

0:18:50 > 0:18:54This cool kit will help us see inside Tracy.

0:18:54 > 0:18:58If you press onto the horse, that's lovely. She won't mind.

0:18:58 > 0:19:01As firm as you can. Oh, look at that.

0:19:05 > 0:19:08Do we think the heart looks like it's stopping for quite

0:19:08 > 0:19:10a long time doesn't it.

0:19:10 > 0:19:12Do you think Tracy can be rehomed?

0:19:12 > 0:19:16I think what we've seen today is that her heart does stop for

0:19:16 > 0:19:21quite long periods of time and that would worry me I think with a rider

0:19:21 > 0:19:25sitting on her back just in case Tracy did feel faint at any time.

0:19:25 > 0:19:27I think she gets early retirement

0:19:27 > 0:19:30and she will probably quite enjoy it too.

0:19:30 > 0:19:32So no new home for Tracy.

0:19:32 > 0:19:34She is going to enjoy five star treatment

0:19:34 > 0:19:36here for the rest of her life.

0:19:38 > 0:19:41It's really a shame for her, because she won't get rehomed.

0:19:41 > 0:19:43But I think she's got a nice home here.

0:19:43 > 0:19:46Tracy time to put your hoofs up and relax

0:19:46 > 0:19:49and enjoy your early retirement.

0:19:53 > 0:19:55And later, Sercan and Zeeshan square up to Ben the foal with

0:19:55 > 0:19:57the fierce thirst.

0:19:57 > 0:20:04- Wouldn't like to have a drinking contest with him, would you?- No.

0:20:04 > 0:20:06And there he is,

0:20:06 > 0:20:09a tiny little seahorse floating around not doing much at all.

0:20:09 > 0:20:12He's definitely not doing much at all.

0:20:12 > 0:20:15- Quite boring aren't they seahorses? - Boring? Seahorses are some of the

0:20:15 > 0:20:17ocean's most beautiful creatures.

0:20:17 > 0:20:20Beautiful. Have you seen the gut on that.

0:20:20 > 0:20:23That's a pot bellied seahorse. That's just the way they look.

0:20:23 > 0:20:25Just the way they look.

0:20:25 > 0:20:29Right. The thing is, sorry Mr Seahorse but he looks pregnant.

0:20:29 > 0:20:32It's weird you should say that, because in the mysterious

0:20:32 > 0:20:36world of the seahorses, it's actually the male that gives birth.

0:20:36 > 0:20:38Are you telling me a fellow has a baby?

0:20:38 > 0:20:40Yes. He can give birth to over seven hundred at one time.

0:20:40 > 0:20:41No wonder it's belly looks so big.

0:20:41 > 0:20:44It might not be pregnant, because that's just how they look.

0:20:44 > 0:20:46Do they eat a lot?

0:20:46 > 0:20:49Oh yes, they do. They are greedy little fellow seahorses.

0:20:49 > 0:20:51But that is not the reason their tummies look so big.

0:20:51 > 0:20:53Don't tell me, it's just how they look!

0:20:53 > 0:20:56He's getting it now. I've brought you a little present.

0:20:56 > 0:20:57Have you?

0:20:57 > 0:20:59It's a saddle. Are you getting on?

0:20:59 > 0:21:03Course I am. Hat.

0:21:03 > 0:21:05SPLASH!

0:21:07 > 0:21:10Back at the horse sanctuary Sercan

0:21:10 > 0:21:12and Zeeshan are working with horses of courses.

0:21:12 > 0:21:16Up for their help next is young foal, Ben.

0:21:16 > 0:21:18He came to the sanctuary after his mum died

0:21:18 > 0:21:20when he was just one day old.

0:21:20 > 0:21:24The little lad has been missing out on mum's natural milk.

0:21:24 > 0:21:27Ray needs our boys to feed him instead.

0:21:27 > 0:21:30Give it a good shake so it's nice and level. That's perfect.

0:21:30 > 0:21:31What kind of powder is this?

0:21:31 > 0:21:34This is a milk replacement powder. This is about as close as we can get

0:21:34 > 0:21:37to what he would have been getting from his mum.

0:21:37 > 0:21:40You want try and make it so that there is no lumps in there at all.

0:21:40 > 0:21:43It looks pretty good, doesn't it. I think that's us all ready.

0:21:43 > 0:21:46- Shall we go and feed Ben, boys? - Yeah.- Brilliant.

0:21:46 > 0:21:48Lads, you shouldn't have.

0:21:48 > 0:21:51Milk, I like a nice bit of milk of an afternoon.

0:21:51 > 0:21:55No, no. This is milk for the horse.

0:21:55 > 0:21:58What?

0:21:58 > 0:22:00Not bad, actually.

0:22:00 > 0:22:01Right, let's find a hungry foal to feed

0:22:01 > 0:22:04or maybe the hungry foal can find us.

0:22:04 > 0:22:06Ben has clocked the milk.

0:22:06 > 0:22:08He is gently coming over and so now it's really

0:22:08 > 0:22:11important that we are really really quiet while he comes over boys.

0:22:11 > 0:22:14If you guys have your milk out in front of you, hopefully he's

0:22:14 > 0:22:16going to come and have a little look at the milk in a second.

0:22:16 > 0:22:18A bit of a stand off at first.

0:22:22 > 0:22:23Here he comes.

0:22:23 > 0:22:26Just hold the milk out and be nice and quiet.

0:22:26 > 0:22:29Watch how quick he drinks it. Remember, no noises.

0:22:32 > 0:22:36See how quick he drinks that. Really fast, isn't he?

0:22:36 > 0:22:38He's really fast isn't he?

0:22:38 > 0:22:42I wouldn't like to have a drinking contest with him, would you?

0:22:42 > 0:22:44Down in one, son.

0:22:44 > 0:22:47Our boys are doing a top job keeping Ben calm.

0:22:48 > 0:22:52If you tip it ever so slightly. Perfect. Well done.

0:22:52 > 0:22:56He can get all the last little bits. Is that yummy mate?

0:22:56 > 0:22:59Now he's got milky chops. Milky chops on my hand.

0:22:59 > 0:23:01How often do you have to feed, Ben.

0:23:01 > 0:23:06At the moment, Ben is getting four feeds through the day

0:23:06 > 0:23:08and through the night he gets another five.

0:23:08 > 0:23:10He's getting nine feeds a day at the moment.

0:23:11 > 0:23:13He likes your red boiler suit!

0:23:14 > 0:23:16Ben is not bashful.

0:23:16 > 0:23:19He even poses for a close up before heading off to play

0:23:19 > 0:23:21out with his surrogate mum.

0:23:21 > 0:23:25Well done, buddy boy!

0:23:25 > 0:23:28- So who is this one here? - This is actually called, Fergie.

0:23:28 > 0:23:30This is a horse that we put with Ben and is Ben's adoptive mum.

0:23:30 > 0:23:32She is the one who is sort of looking after Ben and

0:23:32 > 0:23:36teaching him how to be a young horse and teaching him all his manners.

0:23:36 > 0:23:39Good luck in the future, Ben.

0:23:39 > 0:23:41Let's hope you find yourself a new home with people who will

0:23:41 > 0:23:45care for you just like our top lads have here today.

0:23:45 > 0:23:48That's it, chaps. Do you feel more confident around horses now?

0:23:48 > 0:23:50- Yes.- What was your best bit Zeeshan?

0:23:50 > 0:23:52My best bit was the heart scan.

0:23:52 > 0:23:53Sercan?

0:23:53 > 0:23:56My favourite bit today was when we fed Bobby.

0:23:56 > 0:23:58Good old, Bobby.

0:23:58 > 0:24:02I must say, lads, cracking work and you have done my proud.

0:24:05 > 0:24:08At the wildlife rescue centre, Georgia

0:24:08 > 0:24:11and Tenisha have one final furiously flappy job to finish.

0:24:15 > 0:24:18Have a look behind you. This is your next customer.

0:24:18 > 0:24:21- Is it a sparrow, a robin or a gannet? - A gannet.

0:24:21 > 0:24:22Ten points, well done.

0:24:22 > 0:24:25Janet the Gannet was found

0:24:25 > 0:24:27grounded in a garden far away from her seaside home.

0:24:27 > 0:24:31We had some fairly stormy high windy weather a few days before,

0:24:31 > 0:24:33so we think he's just been blown inland and then can't get back out.

0:24:33 > 0:24:36Janet was dangerously under weight,

0:24:36 > 0:24:40but has spent the last two weeks here filling her face with fish.

0:24:40 > 0:24:43Now it's time for her to taste freedom once again.

0:24:43 > 0:24:44Let me get this right.

0:24:44 > 0:24:49We are going to take this bird to a cliff and throw it into the air.

0:24:49 > 0:24:50Pretty much that, yes.

0:24:50 > 0:24:53Now remember this, our team aren't big on birds.

0:24:53 > 0:24:56But this is the task that could completely win them over,

0:24:56 > 0:24:58because they have been asked to help get Janet home.

0:25:00 > 0:25:03These are sensational seabirds.

0:25:03 > 0:25:06Gannets dive at lightening speeds of over 60 miles per hour

0:25:06 > 0:25:09to pluck out fish which they neck in one gulp.

0:25:09 > 0:25:12They are feisty and stabby.

0:25:12 > 0:25:16So how come it's me who has to grapple with a gannet?

0:25:16 > 0:25:17Are you going to scream like a girl.

0:25:17 > 0:25:20I'm not going to scream like a girl! OK. All right, Janet.

0:25:28 > 0:25:31- So what do you think, girls? Ready for release?- Yeah.

0:25:31 > 0:25:35I think we best get her in the box before she gets really angry.

0:25:35 > 0:25:38Ready, one, two, three.

0:25:42 > 0:25:46So here we are at the top of a cliff with a bird in a box about to

0:25:46 > 0:25:49release a gannet back to its habitat.

0:25:49 > 0:25:52Now, what is the likelihood that the bird is not going to fly?

0:25:52 > 0:25:55We are hoping that there isn't and it is going to fly.

0:25:55 > 0:25:56We've got really nice wind.

0:25:56 > 0:25:58The conditions are right

0:25:58 > 0:26:00and you can see that he's desperate to get out of that box.

0:26:04 > 0:26:06Janet the Gannet is ready to go. Let's do it.

0:26:06 > 0:26:09The big moment.

0:26:09 > 0:26:11Reach for the sky, Janet!

0:26:11 > 0:26:12You ready, girls?

0:26:12 > 0:26:15One, two, three!

0:26:19 > 0:26:23Cheers, Janet. I've just told everyone you are a fantastic flyer.

0:26:23 > 0:26:25Come on.

0:26:28 > 0:26:32- Yeah!- That's more like it.

0:26:38 > 0:26:43Watching the gannet be released

0:26:43 > 0:26:45was really, really amazing.

0:26:45 > 0:26:48It made me feel really happy and excited.

0:26:48 > 0:26:51A bit of a floppy start wasn't it? Going straight up and straight down.

0:26:51 > 0:26:55But I've got my theory. I reckon you fed that bird so much mackerel

0:26:55 > 0:26:57and it had such a fat gut and couldn't get up off the floor.

0:26:57 > 0:26:59Probably, but at least we got the bird up

0:26:59 > 0:27:00and that's what we set out to do.

0:27:00 > 0:27:04So Janet is back home and the girl's work is done.

0:27:04 > 0:27:06I've enjoyed everything.

0:27:06 > 0:27:08But I have to say,

0:27:08 > 0:27:11feeding and holding the chicks were really really good.

0:27:11 > 0:27:15Round my way there isn't much wildlife at all.

0:27:15 > 0:27:20What I've done today has made me realise that I really like wildlife.

0:27:20 > 0:27:24And that is what Go Wild is all about. Love it.
