0:00:05 > 0:00:07Welcome to the world of Epic.
0:00:07 > 0:00:11Sit back, strap yourself in and get ready
0:00:11 > 0:00:13to become epic at everything!
0:00:15 > 0:00:19Welcome to your Quick Blast of epicness.
0:00:19 > 0:00:22So what are we waiting for? Let's do this!
0:00:27 > 0:00:30First up, we need to get our skateboard wheels in motion
0:00:30 > 0:00:33with your first taste of epicosity.
0:00:33 > 0:00:34Hi, I'm Georgie Winter,
0:00:34 > 0:00:37and today I'm going to teach you how to pop an ollie on a skateboard.
0:00:40 > 0:00:42Right, Georgie, let's do this!
0:00:42 > 0:00:44First of all, you need to get yourself into a comfortable
0:00:44 > 0:00:47ollie position, which is your back foot on the tail of the board and
0:00:47 > 0:00:51your front foot flat across the board an inch or so behind the front foot.
0:00:51 > 0:00:53OK, Georgie, we know where to plant our feet,
0:00:53 > 0:00:55but what do we do with them?
0:00:55 > 0:00:57Crunch down, making sure your weight is distributed
0:00:57 > 0:00:59evenly between both feet.
0:00:59 > 0:01:02After you've got that, jump off your back foot, jump hard and fast
0:01:02 > 0:01:05so the tail hits the floor and bounces up into the air.
0:01:05 > 0:01:06This is called 'the pop'.
0:01:06 > 0:01:08OK, we're popping to perfection,
0:01:08 > 0:01:12but we need to get really airborne to be cool. How's it done?
0:01:12 > 0:01:15Immediately after you've jumped, you need to slide your front foot
0:01:15 > 0:01:17up the grip tape towards the nose of the board.
0:01:17 > 0:01:20This allows the board to level out and bring height to your jump.
0:01:20 > 0:01:22Get that front foot slide right,
0:01:22 > 0:01:26and that's when you'll really start hitting some off the ground height.
0:01:26 > 0:01:29But there's one last thing to know if want to get higher.
0:01:29 > 0:01:31Then you bring both your knees up to your chest -
0:01:31 > 0:01:35this allows the board to rise and level out - and then land it.
0:01:36 > 0:01:38OK, major rewind required.
0:01:38 > 0:01:42First up, pop the board by stepping down hard on the tail.
0:01:42 > 0:01:46Next, slide your front foot to the end of the board to allow it
0:01:46 > 0:01:48to level out in the air.
0:01:48 > 0:01:53Finally, bring your knees up to your chest to let the board gain height.
0:01:53 > 0:01:56It's a tricky one, but before you know it,
0:01:56 > 0:01:58you'll be ollie-ing like a pro.
0:01:58 > 0:02:00And that is how you pop an ollie.
0:02:01 > 0:02:03Right, onto the next.
0:02:03 > 0:02:07If you play your cards right, you'll be able to shuffle like a pro.
0:02:07 > 0:02:10Hi, I'm Ben, I'm a magician,
0:02:10 > 0:02:13and I'm going to show you how to shuffle a deck of cards.
0:02:14 > 0:02:17Ben Hanlin is a card-carrying legend. Watch and learn.
0:02:18 > 0:02:22Firstly, you have to separate the deck into two halves,
0:02:22 > 0:02:23and we call this 'riffling'.
0:02:25 > 0:02:29Now hold the cards with your thumb on the top and two or three fingers
0:02:29 > 0:02:33on the bottom, and with your index fingers, push the back to the cards.
0:02:33 > 0:02:37Now, with your thumbs, release the pressure slowly,
0:02:37 > 0:02:40so that you release one card at a time.
0:02:40 > 0:02:43When you get good, you can do it quicker.
0:02:43 > 0:02:44Simple.
0:02:44 > 0:02:47Now place your four fingers on the bottom of the deck
0:02:47 > 0:02:50and grip them tightly and place your thumbs on the top.
0:02:50 > 0:02:53Now bring the knuckles of your fingers together.
0:02:53 > 0:02:58Now slowly open your fingers, and as you do, the cards will cascade.
0:02:58 > 0:03:00Is that as fast as it gets?
0:03:00 > 0:03:04And when you've put all that together, it should look like this.
0:03:08 > 0:03:10OK, that's pretty fast.
0:03:10 > 0:03:13And that's how you shuffle a deck of cards like a pro.
0:03:13 > 0:03:15Thanks, Ben. That was magical.
0:03:15 > 0:03:17Well, not literally, but you know what I mean.
0:03:17 > 0:03:20So, from card shuffling to tricking someone's mind,
0:03:20 > 0:03:22want to know the secret? Obviously.
0:03:22 > 0:03:24Hi, I'm Chris Cox,
0:03:24 > 0:03:27and I'm going to show you how to trick your mate's brain.
0:03:27 > 0:03:28Sounds exciting.
0:03:28 > 0:03:30Chris has sold out gigs at the Edinburgh Festival,
0:03:30 > 0:03:34has comedy eyebrows and cool card skills.
0:03:34 > 0:03:36To do this trick you need a mate, and mine is Bobby Lockwood,
0:03:36 > 0:03:39who plays Rhydian in CBBC's Wolfblood.
0:03:39 > 0:03:40- Say hello.- Hello.
0:03:40 > 0:03:42Bobby Lockwood just said "hi" to me!
0:03:42 > 0:03:44I'm going to show you a pendulum trick.
0:03:44 > 0:03:47This trick works because of the ideomotor response, which is
0:03:47 > 0:03:51a psychological phenomenon which makes us do stuff without knowing it.
0:03:51 > 0:03:52Easy for you to say!
0:03:52 > 0:03:55You need to make a pendulum for your friend to hold.
0:03:55 > 0:03:58Something heave on the end of a piece of string will do, like a ring.
0:03:58 > 0:04:01So get your friend to hold the pendulum between their index
0:04:01 > 0:04:03finger and their thumb. That would be you.
0:04:03 > 0:04:05Keep your arm nice and straight,
0:04:05 > 0:04:08and you're going to not move your arm at all, but you're going to imagine
0:04:08 > 0:04:11a wind coming through this room which blows the pendulum side to side,
0:04:11 > 0:04:14left to right, and start to imagine that wind and don't move your arm.
0:04:14 > 0:04:17- There it goes, starting to go. Are you moving your arm?- No.
0:04:17 > 0:04:20Imagine the wind getting faster as it spins around
0:04:20 > 0:04:22and it makes the ring spin and the pendulum spin,
0:04:22 > 0:04:24and it gets faster and it gets faster.
0:04:24 > 0:04:25- That's amazing, isn't it?- Yeah.
0:04:25 > 0:04:27- Want me to tell you how it's done? - Go on.
0:04:27 > 0:04:29The secret is a thing called the ideomotor response,
0:04:29 > 0:04:32which is basically our brain sending signals to various
0:04:32 > 0:04:34muscles in our body without us knowing it.
0:04:34 > 0:04:37In this instance, it's sending a message to the muscles in your
0:04:37 > 0:04:41hand to gently and slowly move, which allows the pendulum to swing,
0:04:41 > 0:04:43but you have no idea that it's happening.
0:04:43 > 0:04:44It's all in your unconscious mind.
0:04:44 > 0:04:48Ah! So, the ideomotor response is when the brain tells the body
0:04:48 > 0:04:50what to do without you realising it. Epic!
0:04:52 > 0:04:56And that is how to trick your mate's brain.
0:04:56 > 0:05:00So, there you have it, your Quick Blast of epicness.
0:05:00 > 0:05:03Now, go forth and be epic at everything!
