0:00:16 > 0:00:19Welcome to your quick blast of epic-ness.
0:00:19 > 0:00:22So what are we waiting for? Let's do this!
0:00:27 > 0:00:31First up, ask yourself this - do you like hitting things?
0:00:31 > 0:00:33Do you want to be in a band?
0:00:33 > 0:00:37If your answers are yes, then this will be right up your street.
0:00:39 > 0:00:41Hey, what's up? I'm Rob with Enter Shikari
0:00:41 > 0:00:44and I'm going to teach you how to play the drums.
0:00:46 > 0:00:48First up is how to hold your sticks.
0:00:48 > 0:00:52Hold it between your thumb and your forefinger nice and loosely
0:00:52 > 0:00:53so the balance is good.
0:00:53 > 0:00:55It's the same on both hands.
0:00:55 > 0:00:59- Next up, it's how to hit a drum. - Ooh, sounds important.
0:00:59 > 0:01:01Keep a nice, loose wrist.
0:01:01 > 0:01:04Let the stick fall down and bounce back up off the drum,
0:01:04 > 0:01:05letting gravity do the work.
0:01:08 > 0:01:12Next up is doing single-stroke rolls on the drum.
0:01:12 > 0:01:14You're going to be doing them in groups of four,
0:01:14 > 0:01:17alternating between the right and left hand.
0:01:17 > 0:01:19One, two, three, four.
0:01:19 > 0:01:23When you get confident with that, you'll bring more of the drum kit in.
0:01:23 > 0:01:25You're going to do the four beats on the cymbal.
0:01:25 > 0:01:28On the first beat, we're going to have a kick drum
0:01:28 > 0:01:31and on the third beat, we'll have a snare drum.
0:01:31 > 0:01:32So it should sound like this.
0:01:32 > 0:01:34SIMPLE DRUM BEAT One, two, three, four,
0:01:34 > 0:01:36one, two, three, four,
0:01:36 > 0:01:38one, two, three, four.
0:01:38 > 0:01:40So when you're happy with the beat,
0:01:40 > 0:01:43you can build up and get faster each time.
0:01:43 > 0:01:46One, two, three, four, one, two, three, four.
0:01:46 > 0:01:49PLAYS FASTER One, two, three, four.
0:01:49 > 0:01:51One, two, three, four, one, two, three, four,
0:01:51 > 0:01:54one, two, three, four... Drumming's epic!
0:01:54 > 0:01:57So, after you've practised a lot, got good, get your mates together,
0:01:57 > 0:02:00form a band and you could end up sounding something like this.
0:02:00 > 0:02:02ROCK MUSIC PLAYS
0:02:02 > 0:02:04I bet his neighbours love him(!)
0:02:06 > 0:02:08Right, here's a science lady
0:02:08 > 0:02:10who will arm you with some amazing skills.
0:02:12 > 0:02:16Hi, I'm Fran Scott and I'm going to show you how to defy gravity.
0:02:16 > 0:02:19- Whoa!- Get a slinky and hold it up
0:02:19 > 0:02:21and let the rest of it unravel
0:02:21 > 0:02:23until it's nice and still.
0:02:23 > 0:02:27What we're going to do is drop this slinky and the top of it will fall
0:02:27 > 0:02:30but the bottom of the slinky should, for a moment,
0:02:30 > 0:02:33stay where it is and defy gravity.
0:02:33 > 0:02:35- No way!- Here goes.
0:02:37 > 0:02:40Hang on, that might just look like a dropped slinky
0:02:40 > 0:02:43but watch again when we slow it down.
0:02:43 > 0:02:46Keep your eye on the bottom of the slinky.
0:02:46 > 0:02:49Fran releases it but the bottom doesn't move.
0:02:49 > 0:02:51How do you explain that, then?
0:02:51 > 0:02:52When I'm holding the slinky,
0:02:52 > 0:02:56gravity is pulling it down but my hand is holding it up.
0:02:56 > 0:02:59When I let go of the slinky, the top of it falls
0:02:59 > 0:03:02but the bottom of it remains where it is just for a little bit
0:03:02 > 0:03:04and that's because it takes a while
0:03:04 > 0:03:07for the message that I've actually let go of the top of the slinky
0:03:07 > 0:03:09to reach its bottom.
0:03:09 > 0:03:12But when it does, the whole thing falls to the ground.
0:03:14 > 0:03:16There you go, gravity defied.
0:03:18 > 0:03:22Our next stop on Planet Epic is for all you milk-lovers.
0:03:22 > 0:03:26That's everyone, right? Except me, I'm lactose intolerant.
0:03:28 > 0:03:32- I'm Gareth and I'm going to show you how to milk a cow by hand.- By hand?!
0:03:32 > 0:03:35We need to make sure that everything's clean -
0:03:35 > 0:03:37our hands, the bucket,
0:03:37 > 0:03:39- even the old cow.- Rude!
0:03:39 > 0:03:42If we're not clean, we can get germs into the milk
0:03:42 > 0:03:44and it can make you sick.
0:03:44 > 0:03:46Oh, we do not want that.
0:03:46 > 0:03:50Cows are very big and strong, so you've got to be careful.
0:03:50 > 0:03:54Don't stand behind or don't stand in the wrong place.
0:03:54 > 0:03:57- Er, yeah, it might wee on you. - SPLASHING
0:03:57 > 0:03:59Once we're clean, we're ready to milk.
0:03:59 > 0:04:02- Now, this is an udder.- Udder.
0:04:02 > 0:04:05- And this is a teat.- Teat.
0:04:05 > 0:04:07- So, the bucket.- Bucket.
0:04:07 > 0:04:09You get into position
0:04:09 > 0:04:12and we start to milk
0:04:12 > 0:04:15so your thumb's at the top of the teat
0:04:15 > 0:04:17and your index finger comes round
0:04:17 > 0:04:21and each finger squashes as the milk comes through.
0:04:21 > 0:04:23So you squash, squash.
0:04:23 > 0:04:27Last one, get the last drop, release.
0:04:27 > 0:04:30Once you've done that, you can do it two-handed.
0:04:30 > 0:04:34Steady on there, Gareth. Let's not get carried away.
0:04:34 > 0:04:36And that's how you milk a cow.
0:04:36 > 0:04:39Nice one, Gareth. Make mine a pint of full fat.
0:04:41 > 0:04:45So there you have it, your quick blast of epic-ness.
