1:17:22 > 1:17:26Welcome to your quick blast of epicness.
1:17:26 > 1:17:29First up, it's maths and it's epic.
1:17:29 > 1:17:31Hi, I'm Rachel Riley
1:17:31 > 1:17:32and I'm going to teach you
1:17:32 > 1:17:35how to be epic at your 11 times table.
1:17:35 > 1:17:37Erm, yay?
1:17:37 > 1:17:42Everybody knows that 1 x 11 is 11, 2 x 11 is 22, 3 x 11 is 33
1:17:42 > 1:17:45and so on but how about 54 x 11?
1:17:45 > 1:17:47Easy. 469.
1:17:47 > 1:17:49- 594.- Oh.
1:17:49 > 1:17:52I'm going to teach you how to work out your 11 times table all
1:17:52 > 1:17:56the way up to 99 x 11 without even hurting your brain
1:17:56 > 1:17:59and, with a little bit of practice, all in your head.
1:17:59 > 1:18:01Erm, yay?
1:18:01 > 1:18:05To multiply a two-digit number by 11, for example, 54,
1:18:05 > 1:18:08first, split apart the 5 and the 4 with a gap in the middle.
1:18:08 > 1:18:10Next, add its digits together.
1:18:10 > 1:18:14- So, for this example, 5 + 4, which equals 9.- I knew that.
1:18:14 > 1:18:19Now put this number in the gap so we have 5-9-4, and that's your answer!
1:18:19 > 1:18:23- 594.- I was just about to say that!
1:18:23 > 1:18:27But does this work for all two-digit numbers? Let's try 75 x 11.
1:18:27 > 1:18:28Yes, let's.
1:18:28 > 1:18:30Just like the last time,
1:18:30 > 1:18:33first, split the 7 and the 5 with a gap in the middle.
1:18:33 > 1:18:37Next, add its digits together. So in this case, 7 + 5...
1:18:37 > 1:18:39- 14!- ..which makes 12.- Oh.
1:18:39 > 1:18:44Now put this number in the gap so you have 7-12-5.
1:18:44 > 1:18:46My brain hurts.
1:18:46 > 1:18:50So does 75 x 11 = 7,125?
1:18:50 > 1:18:51Yes, it is!
1:18:51 > 1:18:52- No, it isn't.- Oh...
1:18:52 > 1:18:56If the digits add to 10 or greater, you have to carry the 1 over
1:18:56 > 1:19:00into the next column so you end up with 8-2-5...
1:19:01 > 1:19:02..and there's your answer!
1:19:02 > 1:19:05Genius! Thanks, Rachel.
1:19:05 > 1:19:07Now for something different.
1:19:07 > 1:19:10Hello, there! My name is Max Byrne! SIZZLING
1:19:10 > 1:19:13And I'm going to show you how to snap an apple in half
1:19:13 > 1:19:15with your bare hands.
1:19:15 > 1:19:19Now, I only have human ones, so I guess I'm going to use them!
1:19:19 > 1:19:21Sounds really cool but why?
1:19:21 > 1:19:23Sold. Show me how.
1:19:23 > 1:19:26First, you need an apple. You're going to remove the stalk.
1:19:26 > 1:19:28She loves me... She loves me not...
1:19:28 > 1:19:31You're going to make that hole point outwards away from you.
1:19:31 > 1:19:33Now, press upwards with your bottom fingers
1:19:33 > 1:19:36and then press down and out with your thumbs.
1:19:39 > 1:19:41Wow! Epic!
1:19:44 > 1:19:48And that's how you snap an apple in half with your bare hands.
1:19:48 > 1:19:51I found that very a-peel-ing!
1:19:51 > 1:19:52Get out of here!
1:19:52 > 1:19:54Thought that was epic?
1:19:54 > 1:19:56Wait till you get a load of this.
1:19:56 > 1:20:01Hi, I'm Susie and I'm going to show you how to be epic at speed knitting.
1:20:01 > 1:20:03Yeah! That's fast.
1:20:03 > 1:20:06The first step to speed knitting is to learn how to knit.
1:20:06 > 1:20:08Got my needles. Got my yarn. Let's knit!
1:20:08 > 1:20:09MUSIC: 5 Minutes Alone by Pantera
1:20:09 > 1:20:12- Tie a slipknot.- Slipknot! - And place it over the needle
1:20:12 > 1:20:15that you're going to hold in your left hand.
1:20:15 > 1:20:16This is your first stitch.
1:20:16 > 1:20:19- Pros call this casting on. - We take the needle in our right hand
1:20:19 > 1:20:23and we push it through the stitch that is on the left needle.
1:20:23 > 1:20:27You then wrap the yarn around the needle in your right hand,
1:20:27 > 1:20:30take it under the first stitch, pull it through
1:20:30 > 1:20:32and then place that loop on the left needle.
1:20:32 > 1:20:36- You've now made stitch number two!- Rewind!
1:20:36 > 1:20:39So, slot your right needle through your first stitch.
1:20:39 > 1:20:40Loop your yarn around the right needle
1:20:40 > 1:20:43and poke it through the loop on the left needle.
1:20:43 > 1:20:46Then put your left needle through the new loop on your right needle.
1:20:46 > 1:20:48Confused? Don't worry, you'll get there.
1:20:48 > 1:20:53Keep casting on till you've got a row of stitches. Next stage!
1:20:53 > 1:20:57Now you've cast on, you're ready to knit. This is the knit stitch.
1:20:57 > 1:20:59You take your needle in your right hand,
1:20:59 > 1:21:02push the point into the first stitch as you've done before with
1:21:02 > 1:21:07casting on, wrap the yarn around, making a loop on the right needle.
1:21:07 > 1:21:10Pull the loop through underneath the needle on the left hand
1:21:10 > 1:21:14and this time, you want to pull off the stitch on the left needle.
1:21:14 > 1:21:16So it's the same as casting on,
1:21:16 > 1:21:19but you're sliding your stitch off the needle.
1:21:19 > 1:21:22You want to repeat this, then, for the rest of your stitches.
1:21:22 > 1:21:27So you put your needle through, wrap it around, bring it under
1:21:27 > 1:21:30and pull it off. And that is how to knit.
1:21:30 > 1:21:33You'll be a little bit slow at first but, with practice,
1:21:33 > 1:21:36you'll be able to speed knit like this.
1:21:36 > 1:21:40Let's take it...extreme knitting!
1:21:42 > 1:21:46And that's how to be epic at speed knitting!
1:21:46 > 1:21:50So, there you have it. Your quick blast of epicness.
1:21:50 > 1:21:55Now go forth and be epic at everything!
