0:01:52 > 0:01:55Their school careers are going off track.

0:01:59 > 0:02:02Before I meet Charlie and Aiden,

0:02:02 > 0:02:06I need to gather some evidence for my Extreme School dossier.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08What's Charlie like at school?

0:02:08 > 0:02:11He thinks he's better than his teachers.

0:02:11 > 0:02:12He never backs down.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15He doesn't have any respect for teachers

0:02:15 > 0:02:17and he always thinks he's right.

0:02:19 > 0:02:20Aiden's in detention weekly,

0:02:20 > 0:02:22which isn't great.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24He's a fantastic athlete and loves PE

0:02:24 > 0:02:26but his main problem is focusing in lessons.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28He could either really go off the rails

0:02:28 > 0:02:31or make a real success of his life at this point.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33This is an open-and-shut case.

0:02:33 > 0:02:37Charlie and Aiden definitely need an Extreme School experience.

0:02:56 > 0:02:57Well, I am.

0:03:00 > 0:03:02The evidence speaks for itself.

0:03:02 > 0:03:04You're both in need of an Extreme School experience.

0:03:07 > 0:03:10I'm going to give you a few facts about the school you're going to.

0:03:33 > 0:03:35Is that a problem?

0:03:35 > 0:03:36Yeah.

0:03:36 > 0:03:38If you misbehave in any way,

0:03:38 > 0:03:43you'll be made to pick up stones and weed the school grounds.

0:04:32 > 0:04:34around 4,500 miles from home.

0:04:36 > 0:04:38Known as "the Oxford of the East",

0:04:38 > 0:04:40the city has hundreds of schools and universities

0:04:40 > 0:04:43and attracts students from across the country.

0:04:45 > 0:04:47It's here you can find The Bishop's Boys' School.

0:04:47 > 0:04:51The English-speaking school was established in 1864

0:04:54 > 0:04:56- Good morning, school.- Morning, sir.

0:04:56 > 0:04:59It's run by the straight-talking Mr Freese.

0:04:59 > 0:05:01Good discipline in a school like ours,

0:05:01 > 0:05:05especially a boys' school in India, is very, very important.

0:05:05 > 0:05:07Bishop's students are the cream of the crop.

0:05:07 > 0:05:10We study a lot, we love our school a lot.

0:05:10 > 0:05:12Very respectful to our teachers.

0:05:12 > 0:05:15For many, a place at The Bishop's School is their ticket

0:05:15 > 0:05:17to a better life in India.

0:05:17 > 0:05:19If you're not educated in India,

0:05:19 > 0:05:22then you're nothing. No girl marries you.

0:05:30 > 0:05:32A week at The Bishop's School could be a real eye-opener

0:05:32 > 0:05:35for serial rule-breakers Charlie and Aiden.

0:05:35 > 0:05:38But first, they have to make it through the traffic!

0:05:39 > 0:05:41It is crazy.

0:05:41 > 0:05:45You can't go down any street without hearing about 20 beeps!

0:05:45 > 0:05:47CARS BEEP

0:05:47 > 0:05:48It is a bit of a shock.

0:05:48 > 0:05:51It's too much, really.

0:05:51 > 0:05:54Makes you pretty nervous about going to school, to be honest.

0:06:01 > 0:06:02For the next five days,

0:06:02 > 0:06:05Charlie and Aiden will be pupils at The Bishop's School.

0:06:09 > 0:06:11To graduate successfully, they must:

0:06:20 > 0:06:22WHISTLE BLOWS

0:06:24 > 0:06:27Bishop's students savour every moment at their school.

0:06:27 > 0:06:29Their enthusiastic morning arrival

0:06:29 > 0:06:32has already put Charlie and Aiden on the back foot!

0:06:32 > 0:06:36The school is very big. The traffic outside is mayhem.

0:06:36 > 0:06:39All the kids are looking at me.

0:06:39 > 0:06:43And they haven't even met school principal Mr Freese yet!

0:06:43 > 0:06:46Charlie, Aiden. Come in, please.

0:06:48 > 0:06:50- Very good. Good morning.- Morning.

0:06:50 > 0:06:53The boys in this school usually address me as sir.

0:06:53 > 0:06:56If you look at the school banner, you'll find the word "thorough".

0:06:56 > 0:06:58That is the school motto.

0:06:58 > 0:07:02Everything we do here, we believe we're going to do it thoroughly.

0:07:02 > 0:07:03What is your school motto?

0:07:03 > 0:07:07I don't think we have one, but if I was going to explain it,

0:07:07 > 0:07:10it would be "laid back. Chilled."

0:07:10 > 0:07:12Say a teacher shouted at me,

0:07:12 > 0:07:14I'd be laid back, like, "Whatever."

0:07:14 > 0:07:18That word, "whatever", is almost banned in our school.

0:07:18 > 0:07:20In your school, do you have rules?

0:07:20 > 0:07:22- Mm.- Do you break most of them?- Yeah!

0:07:22 > 0:07:24Here, we don't encourage that.

0:07:24 > 0:07:27The key rules here. One is respect.

0:07:27 > 0:07:29The other is obedience.

0:07:29 > 0:07:32The third rule is get down to thorough work

0:07:32 > 0:07:34where your studies are concerned.

0:07:34 > 0:07:37But Charlie's got other ideas.

0:07:37 > 0:07:40I reckon there's room for a bit of leeway.

0:07:40 > 0:07:43There's leeway. He sounds like a forgiving person.

0:07:43 > 0:07:45So I could get away with a bit.

0:07:48 > 0:07:51The Bishop's day begins with a full assembly in the courtyard.

0:07:51 > 0:07:55And headmaster Mr Edwin wants them to fit in properly.

0:07:55 > 0:07:58Aiden, this is your set of uniform.

0:07:58 > 0:08:00Charlie, that's yours. Right? OK?

0:08:03 > 0:08:05I am not wearing a tie.

0:08:05 > 0:08:07Not wearing a jumper.

0:08:07 > 0:08:08Do we have to wear it, though?

0:08:08 > 0:08:12Well, I'm refusing. I don't care what you say.

0:08:13 > 0:08:16This is a stark contrast to their uniform back home

0:08:16 > 0:08:19which consists of a polo shirt and no tie.

0:08:24 > 0:08:26You look like a nerd!

0:08:28 > 0:08:30Mr Freese is going to go mental, but I don't care.

0:08:30 > 0:08:32I'm not wearing it, so...

0:08:33 > 0:08:36Bishop's boys always wear their uniform with pride.

0:08:36 > 0:08:40Charlie and Aiden must do the same if they want to stay out of trouble.

0:08:40 > 0:08:43But Charlie doesn't take kindly to school rules.

0:08:43 > 0:08:45What about you, my friend?

0:08:45 > 0:08:48- I'm not wearing it. - Why?- Cos it's horrible.

0:08:48 > 0:08:52The boys are waiting for you. They all came to see what you're like.

0:08:52 > 0:08:54Are you going to waste your time just being here alone?

0:08:54 > 0:08:56I'm not going to get embarrassed.

0:08:56 > 0:08:59You won't be embarrassed! They're all dressed the same way!

0:09:05 > 0:09:07- How will you be embarrassed? - It just is.

0:09:07 > 0:09:10- Then we'll have to pack you up and send you home.- Fine.

0:09:10 > 0:09:13- Talk to me. Tell me the reasons. - I'm not talking to you!

0:09:13 > 0:09:15Look in the mirror and talk to yourself, then.

0:09:15 > 0:09:18I can't keep the school waiting. So we'll carry on.

0:09:18 > 0:09:23'There's a tremendous amount of stubbornness.'

0:09:23 > 0:09:26If he doesn't put on the uniform, he can't join the school.

0:09:26 > 0:09:29With Charlie temporarily suspended,

0:09:29 > 0:09:33Aiden must now face his first school assembly alone.

0:09:33 > 0:09:36We have a boy from England. Actually, we've got two.

0:09:36 > 0:09:39One has not come to assembly.

0:09:39 > 0:09:42The other boy, I want to introduce you to Aiden.

0:09:42 > 0:09:44Aiden, come up here.

0:09:44 > 0:09:46This is Aiden. He's all the way from England.

0:09:46 > 0:09:48Please tell us about yourself.

0:09:48 > 0:09:52Hello. I'm Aiden. I'm 13 years old

0:09:52 > 0:09:55and I like football, cricket.

0:09:59 > 0:10:00Thank you.

0:10:00 > 0:10:03Can we give him a big round of applause and welcome him to school?

0:10:05 > 0:10:08When I walked out and saw the students waiting for me,

0:10:08 > 0:10:10I felt happy cos they were all there for me.

0:10:10 > 0:10:13It was nice.

0:10:14 > 0:10:17We thank you for Charlie and Aiden. We pray especially for Charlie,

0:10:17 > 0:10:19and we ask that you touch his heart

0:10:19 > 0:10:23and help him to co-operate and enjoy the rest of this week.

0:10:23 > 0:10:26All he wants is rules and respect and rubbish like that.

0:10:28 > 0:10:30They're wearing it cos they're scared of him.

0:10:30 > 0:10:32I'm not scared of him, so I'm not going to wear it.

0:10:33 > 0:10:36Charlie is on the verge of being excluded from this Extreme School.

0:10:38 > 0:10:42I'm going to talk to Charlie to try and get him into his uniform.

0:10:42 > 0:10:45Cos I can't do it all alone. I need some support from him.

0:10:48 > 0:10:51- All right?- You should get changed. - No!

0:10:51 > 0:10:53Trust me, it's actually really fun.

0:10:53 > 0:10:56I'll put up with the tie, but not with the short-sleeved shirt.

0:10:56 > 0:10:58Won't you put the jumper on?

0:10:58 > 0:11:00I just don't like the jumper.

0:11:00 > 0:11:03Go on, Charlie, please do it. I can't do it all on my own.

0:11:04 > 0:11:06It's ugly!

0:11:06 > 0:11:08You obviously don't want to do it.

0:11:13 > 0:11:16- All right.- You're going to do it? - Yeah.

0:11:23 > 0:11:25You're a star!

0:11:27 > 0:11:29Good. Good. Very good.

0:11:29 > 0:11:31Possibly it was his last chance.

0:11:32 > 0:11:35I don't think he'll need another chance. He'll be successful.

0:11:35 > 0:11:37Come on. Let's go to class.

0:11:37 > 0:11:41- He's looking pretty smart, actually. - Shut up!

0:11:49 > 0:11:52Bishop's boys are some of the highest achieving in the country.

0:11:52 > 0:11:55They're keen to find out if their new British classmates

0:11:55 > 0:11:57have the same passion for school.

0:11:57 > 0:12:01OK, class, these are our two visitors, Aiden and Charlie.

0:12:01 > 0:12:04Is there anything you'd like to ask them?

0:12:04 > 0:12:06Aiden and Charlie, what do you think of school?

0:12:06 > 0:12:08Boring.

0:12:11 > 0:12:13I'd rather sit at home and relax.

0:12:14 > 0:12:17Did you ever get into trouble at school, and for what?

0:12:17 > 0:12:22All the time. Talking, you know. Shouting.

0:12:22 > 0:12:26I would like to ask you how important is school

0:12:26 > 0:12:28to English students?

0:12:28 > 0:12:29Not very important.

0:12:29 > 0:12:32We don't worship it as much as you guys.

0:12:34 > 0:12:36I think it's pretty shocking.

0:12:36 > 0:12:39Education is a must in India.

0:12:39 > 0:12:41You have to be a doctor or an engineer.

0:12:41 > 0:12:43They're the only two options you've got.

0:12:43 > 0:12:46Either of these, or you're disowned by your family.

0:12:50 > 0:12:53Back in the UK, Charlie and Aiden rarely listened to their teachers.

0:12:53 > 0:12:58So the school have planned a rather apt end of week challenge for them.

0:13:04 > 0:13:07Class 5A are one of the school's liveliest and busiest.

0:13:10 > 0:13:13With 52 Year 5 pupils.

0:13:19 > 0:13:21- ALL:- Good morning, sir.

0:13:21 > 0:13:23Morning, boys. Sit.

0:13:27 > 0:13:29Aiden and Charlie, this is your challenge.

0:13:29 > 0:13:32You're going to prepare a lesson for these kids.

0:13:32 > 0:13:34At the end of the week, you're going to teach them a lesson.

0:13:34 > 0:13:37Rebellious student turned teacher,

0:13:37 > 0:13:40the shoe really is on the other foot now.

0:13:40 > 0:13:44Hopefully, they don't run riot. There is 52 of them.

0:13:44 > 0:13:48'I always think I'm smarter than the teachers,'

0:13:48 > 0:13:50so this is my chance to prove it.

0:13:50 > 0:13:53I think Charlie is a bit over confident on this one, yeah.

0:13:53 > 0:13:55This show needs to keep us under control

0:13:55 > 0:13:57because we're a very troublesome class!

0:14:07 > 0:14:11It's a new day at Bishop's and a fresh start for Charlie.

0:14:11 > 0:14:14He needs to be on his best behaviour

0:14:14 > 0:14:17if he wants to make up for his disastrous start at the school.

0:14:18 > 0:14:20- Aiden.- Charlie.

0:14:20 > 0:14:23- What do you like more, football or cricket?- Football.

0:14:23 > 0:14:26But as the boys gather for morning assembly,

0:14:26 > 0:14:27they draw a bit of a crowd.

0:14:34 > 0:14:38Can we just go now? Can't stand in there.

0:14:38 > 0:14:40- Everyone just looks at you. - It's really weird.

0:14:40 > 0:14:43Let's just go. Let's go now.

0:14:45 > 0:14:48Charlie is once again refusing to join assembly

0:14:48 > 0:14:50and this time, he's taken Aiden with him.

0:14:51 > 0:14:53Almighty God, whose blessed son

0:14:53 > 0:14:55did show wisdom and stature...

0:14:55 > 0:15:01We only walked out cos we felt like everybody was crowding us.

0:15:01 > 0:15:03I don't mind if there's a few people around me,

0:15:03 > 0:15:05- but...- Not the whole school.

0:15:05 > 0:15:09I'll just explain to the head teacher, Mr Edwin,

0:15:09 > 0:15:12and can he understand?

0:15:12 > 0:15:15And if he doesn't, then I guess whatever happens happens.

0:15:15 > 0:15:19It seems Charlie will find any excuse to break a rule.

0:15:19 > 0:15:22We expected you to be at assembly this morning. What happened?

0:15:22 > 0:15:24The reason we didn't come was like...

0:15:24 > 0:15:27We were stood there

0:15:27 > 0:15:29and everybody started crowding us.

0:15:29 > 0:15:32- There was a few people crowding... - It was intimidating.

0:15:32 > 0:15:36Now, this is what it is. It's not acceptable to miss assembly tomorrow.

0:15:36 > 0:15:39I hope I've made myself clear. Charlie, especially you.

0:15:39 > 0:15:42That's the last warning you're going to get, both of you.

0:15:42 > 0:15:45I don't know why Charlie felt intimidated.

0:15:45 > 0:15:47Our kids are nice. They were trying to make them comfortable.

0:15:47 > 0:15:50He feels that he can do what he wants and get away with it.

0:15:50 > 0:15:54We've got to clamp down on that and be strict with him now.

0:15:58 > 0:16:01"I saw pale kings and princes, too..."

0:16:01 > 0:16:03With the boys on their final warning,

0:16:03 > 0:16:07they need to knuckle down to have any chance of graduating

0:16:07 > 0:16:08from Extreme School.

0:16:08 > 0:16:11I'm going to try my hardest to reach my goal.

0:19:26 > 0:19:31In pounds, if you ask me, it's something like 70 to £80 a month.

0:19:31 > 0:19:33- A month?- A month.

0:19:34 > 0:19:38- So it's like two... Two pounds... - Two pounds a day.- Yeah.

0:20:31 > 0:20:33They need to work hard to get their education

0:20:37 > 0:20:40They really get their head down and get the work done.

0:20:40 > 0:20:43They need to learn in order to survive, basically.

0:20:43 > 0:20:47The boys final lesson of the day is debate.

0:20:47 > 0:20:50It's all about confidence and speaking in public.

0:21:46 > 0:21:48I felt a bit sorry for Aiden

0:21:48 > 0:21:50because he doesn't really like a crowd.

0:22:32 > 0:22:34It's not just a couple, there are many.

0:22:34 > 0:22:37It's going to be a challenge, a real tough challenge.

0:22:37 > 0:22:41Teaching a big class of about 50, it's very easy to lose control.

0:22:41 > 0:22:44If the challenge was all a disaster,

0:22:46 > 0:22:48I'm a bit nervous about it all.

0:25:22 > 0:25:24So far, so good.

0:25:25 > 0:25:30You have got to match the facts with the kings.

0:25:30 > 0:25:33But as the class divides for their group activity,

0:25:33 > 0:25:36things start to get slightly out of hand.

0:27:18 > 0:27:21and how much people in England take it for granted.
