0:01:56 > 0:01:59- I think it's a well-written song. - Very well written.

0:01:59 > 0:02:03It's, therefore, I think it would be good to change up and, like,

0:02:37 > 0:02:39I'm excited it's my song but I'm a bit nervous cos

0:02:39 > 0:02:42obviously we don't know what the challenge is yet,

0:02:42 > 0:02:44so, you know, you never know who's going to get into the sing-off.

0:02:44 > 0:02:46How does everyone else feel about the song?

0:02:46 > 0:02:49- I mean, I just think it's quite boring.- I haven't actually

0:02:49 > 0:02:51- heard the song before.- I think that's cool, though.- I think, yeah.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53That's exciting, if you've never heard a song before

0:02:53 > 0:02:55- then you can bring something fresh to it.- Yeah.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58- Guys, do you want to hear Lauren sing the song?- ALL:- Yeah!

0:02:58 > 0:03:03# Gotta fix that calendar I have that's marked July 15... #

0:03:03 > 0:03:06I do really like this song because it's the type of music

0:03:06 > 0:03:08I listen to and like to sing.

0:03:08 > 0:03:11# And how every song reminds me of what used to be

0:03:11 > 0:03:15# That's the reason I'm so sick of love songs

0:03:15 > 0:03:18# So tired of tears... #

0:03:18 > 0:03:21I really want to sing this song because I really like this song

0:03:21 > 0:03:23and I think that this song suits my voice.

0:03:23 > 0:03:26# I said I'm so sick of love songs

0:03:26 > 0:03:28# So sad and slow... #

0:03:28 > 0:03:30I definitely do like this song,

0:03:30 > 0:03:33I didn't at the start, but after hearing Lawrence sing it,

0:03:33 > 0:03:35I think everything just sounds better with the piano.

0:03:35 > 0:03:39# Why can't I turn off the radio? #

0:03:39 > 0:03:42APPLAUSE

0:03:42 > 0:03:44So, who's excited for the song?

0:03:44 > 0:03:46Good. DAVID LAUGHS

0:03:46 > 0:03:49I'm going to leave you with David now. When I come back,

0:03:49 > 0:03:51three of you will be in the sing-off. Good luck!

0:03:51 > 0:03:53- Bye!- Thank you.- Bye, Lauren.

0:03:53 > 0:03:56David Tench is an expert at getting singers to perform their best.

0:03:56 > 0:03:58It's a good song, it's an easy song to change up.

0:03:58 > 0:04:01And he knows it's not just about the voice.

0:04:01 > 0:04:02I think this time,

0:04:02 > 0:04:05this sing-off should be about everyone's individual style.

0:04:05 > 0:04:08We've got a nice simple song and an opportunity to turn it into

0:04:08 > 0:04:10something that suits everybody.

0:04:10 > 0:04:12- You should go first, Ellie.- OK.

0:04:12 > 0:04:16# Gotta change my answering machine

0:04:16 > 0:04:18# Now that I'm alone... #

0:04:18 > 0:04:21It's like my favourite song, not just to sing but in general,

0:04:21 > 0:04:23I love this song so much.

0:04:23 > 0:04:26# And I know it makes no sense

0:04:26 > 0:04:29# Since you walked out the door... #

0:04:29 > 0:04:31Ellie's really excited to sing this song.

0:04:31 > 0:04:33It suits her so well.

0:04:35 > 0:04:38- Yeah!- Thank you. - APPLAUSE

0:04:38 > 0:04:41Let's try and change this up now and get some different flavours.

0:04:41 > 0:04:45# I said I'm so sick of love songs

0:04:45 > 0:04:47# So tired of tears

0:04:47 > 0:04:50# So done with wishing

0:04:50 > 0:04:52# You were still here. #

0:04:52 > 0:04:54But the song isn't to everyone's taste.

0:04:54 > 0:04:56It's a nice song, but I just can't sing it,

0:04:56 > 0:05:00- I can't picture myself, like...- You can't picture yourself doing it?

0:05:00 > 0:05:03- No.- That's the challenge of Got What It Takes? You never know

0:05:03 > 0:05:06what the song's going to be and you've got to try and work it

0:05:06 > 0:05:07and make it suit you.

0:05:07 > 0:05:10And Luka's next to try and make the song work for him.

0:05:10 > 0:05:12# Cos I'm so sick of... #

0:05:12 > 0:05:14Sorry, I don't know how it goes.

0:05:14 > 0:05:16My biggest challenge at the minute

0:05:16 > 0:05:19is to familiarise myself with the song cos I really don't know it.

0:05:19 > 0:05:21I messed that up badly.

0:05:21 > 0:05:2512-year-old Luka from Birmingham is the youngest member of the group.

0:05:25 > 0:05:29# I see you walking just ahead... #

0:05:29 > 0:05:33I have a song book where I keep all my songs and all my song ideas.

0:05:33 > 0:05:35I've been writing for about three years.

0:05:35 > 0:05:37And he's not afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve.

0:05:37 > 0:05:40You need to be able to put your emotions into your lyrics.

0:05:40 > 0:05:43# I should know, I should know... #

0:05:43 > 0:05:46You can't be afraid to really write how you feel.

0:05:46 > 0:05:48He's already been in three sing-offs,

0:05:48 > 0:05:51but struggled with the lyrics in the last one.

0:05:51 > 0:05:52I can't do this!

0:05:52 > 0:05:56But so far, he has always found a way to put his own spin on a song.

0:05:56 > 0:05:58I've decided I want to do something different.

0:05:58 > 0:06:02- He's doing acting and bringing out the lyrics. Love it!- Awesome!

0:06:02 > 0:06:04Can he do it again?

0:06:04 > 0:06:08# So done with wishing you were still here. #

0:06:08 > 0:06:11Because Luka is not familiar with the song,

0:06:11 > 0:06:13it made him come up with new ways of doing it.

0:06:13 > 0:06:15And it was really emotional.

0:06:15 > 0:06:20# So why can't I turn off the radio-o-o? #

0:06:20 > 0:06:22- ALL:- Awww! - APPLAUSE

0:06:22 > 0:06:24I think that's the key.

0:06:24 > 0:06:26If Luka makes it to the sing-off,

0:06:26 > 0:06:29he should tap into the emotion of this song.

0:06:29 > 0:06:32# I got, got, got what it takes now. #

0:06:34 > 0:06:37Working in the music industry may be an exciting job,

0:06:37 > 0:06:39but is it really as glamorous as it looks?

0:06:39 > 0:06:42Hi, I'm Craig David and you're watching Got What It Takes.

0:06:42 > 0:06:45Although working in music looks like it might be all

0:06:45 > 0:06:47glitz and glamour, there is a lot of hard work involved.

0:06:47 > 0:06:49It's definitely not all glamour, I think you have to

0:06:49 > 0:06:52work hard at everything you do and work ethic is really important.

0:06:52 > 0:06:55You get to shoot videos, you get to perform in front of thousands

0:06:55 > 0:06:57of people and it's incredible.

0:06:57 > 0:06:59But with that also comes a lot of struggle.

0:06:59 > 0:07:02Two end of show sing-off spots are up for grabs,

0:07:02 > 0:07:05but there can only be one in a music industry challenge

0:07:05 > 0:07:08and it's time to find out exactly what that will be.

0:07:08 > 0:07:10We've got a message from Lauren.

0:07:10 > 0:07:12You may have started off singing in your bedroom,

0:07:12 > 0:07:15but one day you could be starring in your very own music video

0:07:15 > 0:07:18or putting on a multi-million pound live show.

0:07:18 > 0:07:20If this happens, you'll need to work with a creative director

0:07:20 > 0:07:23and in today's challenge, you get the chance to work

0:07:23 > 0:07:25with one of the best in the business,

0:07:25 > 0:07:27who is known for working on stuff like this.

0:07:35 > 0:07:37- Whoa!- So excited!

0:07:37 > 0:07:40Judging today's challenge is creative director to the stars

0:07:40 > 0:07:42Dan Shipton.

0:07:42 > 0:07:45Working with some of the biggest names in entertainment,

0:07:45 > 0:07:48he knows a thing or two about putting on an amazing show,

0:07:48 > 0:07:49from world tours to pop videos,

0:07:49 > 0:07:52and today, he's going to put our gang through their paces.

0:07:52 > 0:07:54Come and grab a seat here for me.

0:07:54 > 0:07:57The group's industry challenge this week is to make a pop video.

0:07:57 > 0:08:00Guys, my name's Dan Shipton, I am a creative director.

0:08:00 > 0:08:02I work with lots of famous people,

0:08:02 > 0:08:06Ellie Goulding, Jess Glynne, Taylor Swift, Kanye, Olly Murs...

0:08:06 > 0:08:08Any major artist these days has a creative director,

0:08:08 > 0:08:10so that's where I come in and hopefully that's where I can

0:08:10 > 0:08:13work with you guys today, to make you guys do something extra special.

0:08:13 > 0:08:15What was it like directing big stars?

0:08:15 > 0:08:18The big thing that you realise when you work with any pop star

0:08:18 > 0:08:19is that everything is about image.

0:08:19 > 0:08:22And actually, when you get to know them, they are normal people,

0:08:22 > 0:08:25like you and I, so ultimately it's a big collaboration

0:08:25 > 0:08:26between me and the artist.

0:08:26 > 0:08:28It was really surreal meeting Dan cos he's worked with

0:08:28 > 0:08:30so many famous people that I looked up to myself.

0:08:30 > 0:08:33I've learned a lot more about what it's actually like to be in

0:08:33 > 0:08:36the music industry and what's behind the scenes.

0:08:36 > 0:08:38Guys, your challenge today is to create a music video with me.

0:08:38 > 0:08:40In today's challenge,

0:08:40 > 0:08:44the singers will be split into two groups to film a music video.

0:08:44 > 0:08:47They will each have to lip-synch to a famous pop song,

0:08:47 > 0:08:50whilst following Dan's choreographed routine

0:08:50 > 0:08:53and they only get one take to record it.

0:08:53 > 0:08:56Before filming, there is some serious rehearsing to do.

0:08:56 > 0:08:58So, guys, are you ready to do some training?

0:08:58 > 0:09:00- ALL:- Yeah. - Let's get started.

0:09:00 > 0:09:03First, they need to practise lip-synching the song

0:09:03 > 0:09:05they'll perform in the video.

0:09:05 > 0:09:06When you're doing your lip-synch,

0:09:06 > 0:09:09the important thing is to remember it's all about your face,

0:09:09 > 0:09:11it's all about selling your characters.

0:09:11 > 0:09:13Group 1 have got Justin Timberlake's Can't Stop The Feeling.

0:09:13 > 0:09:16# When we move, you already know. #

0:09:16 > 0:09:20Group 2 have been given Lush Life by Zara Larsson.

0:09:20 > 0:09:22# I live my days as if it was the last

0:09:22 > 0:09:24# Live my day as if there was no past. #

0:09:24 > 0:09:27Next, it's a lesson in how to work with cameras.

0:09:27 > 0:09:29When you're looking down this lens, look in the middle.

0:09:29 > 0:09:33Don't let your eyes wander. So, don't look like a rabbit

0:09:33 > 0:09:35in the headlights, yeah? Really sell it, yeah?

0:09:35 > 0:09:38One of the key things about taking direction is learning loads

0:09:38 > 0:09:41of new things but then actually making it look effortless.

0:09:41 > 0:09:43Finally, the groups must get to grips with performing Dan's

0:09:43 > 0:09:45tricky routine with confidence...

0:09:45 > 0:09:48Don't worry about the lyrics, Luka, just enjoy it!

0:09:48 > 0:09:51..which is coming more naturally to some...

0:09:51 > 0:09:53# I live my days as if it was the last... #

0:09:53 > 0:09:57- Nice! Enjoy it!- ..than others. - Come on, Jorja, relax!

0:09:57 > 0:10:00Embarrassing. It felt like dancing on your own in a party,

0:10:00 > 0:10:01which is awkward.

0:10:01 > 0:10:04# Second time is one too late. #

0:10:04 > 0:10:05Cut there!

0:10:07 > 0:10:10Rehearsals over, it's crunch time.

0:10:10 > 0:10:13Now, they have to perform the videos for real in front of Dan.

0:10:13 > 0:10:16I'm just going to try and not get distracted, I'm going to try

0:10:16 > 0:10:18and focus a little bit more because I find it so awkward.

0:10:18 > 0:10:22- You've got all the crew there... - I think we if we all be ourselves

0:10:22 > 0:10:24- and dance along...- Give it our all. Yeah, give it our all.- Just chill.

0:10:24 > 0:10:26Chill?!

0:10:26 > 0:10:28Dan will be judging them on...

0:10:28 > 0:10:31the quality of their lip-syncing, how well they work with the cameras,

0:10:31 > 0:10:34and their confidence in the choreography.

0:10:34 > 0:10:37So, for this, I need you to focus and really think about it,

0:10:37 > 0:10:39I want this to be pretty much perfect.

0:10:39 > 0:10:41The key to it is, don't forget,

0:10:41 > 0:10:44really make sure that you've got your eye connection down the camera,

0:10:44 > 0:10:47don't forget to smile, don't forget to really enjoy yourselves.

0:10:47 > 0:10:50- Are you ready to do this?- Yes.- Yes. - Brilliant. So, take your marks...

0:10:50 > 0:10:53Dan will pick one winner from each group

0:10:53 > 0:10:55that has followed his direction the best.

0:10:55 > 0:11:00First record, it's Brook, Kellimarie, Luka and Erin.

0:11:00 > 0:11:01Let mark it.

0:11:01 > 0:11:05# I got this feeling inside my bones

0:11:05 > 0:11:08# It goes electric wavy when I turn it on. #

0:11:08 > 0:11:10This challenge is one of my best challenges

0:11:10 > 0:11:13because it was quite exciting and, you know, active.

0:11:13 > 0:11:16# Nowhere to hide when I'm getting you close. #

0:11:16 > 0:11:18Do you know, being comfortable around cameras,

0:11:18 > 0:11:20and just getting more used to it,

0:11:20 > 0:11:24it was a good taste in what we'd go through in the music industry.

0:11:24 > 0:11:29# Nothing I can see but you when you dance, dance, dance... #

0:11:29 > 0:11:32In the beginning I wasn't confident and I was quite shy and all that

0:11:32 > 0:11:34but then I feel I got a bit better.

0:11:34 > 0:11:38# And under the lights when everything goes... #

0:11:38 > 0:11:41I think it gave us a real insight into what it would be like

0:11:41 > 0:11:43to film our own music video.

0:11:43 > 0:11:45# Can't stop the feeling Got this feeling in my body... #

0:11:45 > 0:11:49I think this was my favourite because it's got, like, the lighting

0:11:49 > 0:11:53and the confetti, it just makes you feel like an actual pop star.

0:11:53 > 0:11:57# Got this feeling in my body Come on, ooh, ooh. #

0:11:57 > 0:12:00- Excellent, well done, everyone. - Thank you.- That was well cool!

0:12:00 > 0:12:03Yeah, we just came out and that was pretty good.

0:12:03 > 0:12:05Yeah, it was so much fun.

0:12:05 > 0:12:11Next in front of the cameras, it's Evan, Kyra, Ellie and Jorja.

0:12:11 > 0:12:13OK, so, here we go.

0:12:13 > 0:12:15# I'mma dance my heart out till the dawn

0:22:57 > 0:23:00# Gotta change my answering machine

0:23:00 > 0:23:02# Now that I'm alone... #

0:23:02 > 0:23:06This song really suits Jorja and she sings beautifully.

0:23:06 > 0:23:09# Da da da da da doo

0:23:09 > 0:23:12# Da da doo doo... #

0:23:12 > 0:23:13Shall I do more "doo doo" bits?

0:23:13 > 0:23:17So there's not like that bit of silence.

0:23:17 > 0:23:20I just want to make it less awkward.

0:23:20 > 0:23:22That's the only challenge you've got,

0:23:22 > 0:23:26is that thing of it feeling awkward on the stage. You don't have to.

0:23:26 > 0:23:31It's about focus. Jorja just needs to work on her focus in these songs.

0:23:31 > 0:23:36She needs to figure out what the song is about, what it means to her

0:23:36 > 0:23:39and then never stop thinking about that until the very last note.

0:23:39 > 0:23:43So, Kyra, So Sick by Ne-Yo, you love this song, don't you?

0:23:43 > 0:23:44Yes, I really like it.

0:23:44 > 0:23:48I was thinking of making it kind of slow, soulful, a bit jazzy.

0:23:48 > 0:23:50OK, interesting.

0:23:50 > 0:23:51I want, like, a little bit more riffs,

0:23:51 > 0:23:53but I don't know how to add them in.

0:23:53 > 0:23:57- YOU doing more riffs?- Yeah.- OK, cool, maybe we'll give that a go.

0:23:57 > 0:23:58So, we found some things,

0:23:58 > 0:24:02we added an extra high note and she seems happy with that.

0:24:02 > 0:24:07# ..you were still here

0:24:07 > 0:24:10# So sick of love songs... #

0:24:10 > 0:24:13It's really exciting when you add extra notes to songs

0:24:13 > 0:24:17and they become dramatic and cool but you always have to be thinking,

0:24:17 > 0:24:18what's coming next?

0:24:18 > 0:24:20It might be her undoing.

0:24:21 > 0:24:24Kyra is a 13-year-old singer from East London who's passionate

0:24:24 > 0:24:25about performing.

0:24:25 > 0:24:28SHE SINGS

0:24:28 > 0:24:32The thing that I love about performing is that I just feel

0:24:32 > 0:24:37calm, relaxed and I feel like I'm in a world of my own.

0:24:37 > 0:24:38SHE SINGS

0:24:38 > 0:24:41Her mum is behind her all the way.

0:24:41 > 0:24:46When it comes to music, Kyra is very focused.

0:24:46 > 0:24:50She likes everything to be in place, she's very passionate.

0:24:50 > 0:24:53She won her only sing-off with a soulful rendition of

0:24:53 > 0:24:55Imagine Dragons' Radioactive.

0:24:55 > 0:24:59- # Radioactive, radioactive. # - Kyra.

0:24:59 > 0:25:01And she's hoping she can win another.

0:25:01 > 0:25:05My grandma always tells me, if at first you don't succeed,

0:25:05 > 0:25:08- try again.- Oh! - So, yeah, I always have that...

0:25:16 > 0:25:19like, "Oh, yeah, I've got to sing the rest of the song now."
