0:03:38 > 0:03:43Cats are very sweet, but sometimes they can be a pest to the birds.

0:03:43 > 0:03:45That's why Basil wears a bell -

0:03:45 > 0:03:48so that birds can hear him when he's coming.

0:04:01 > 0:04:03We have come to the marshlands today

0:04:03 > 0:04:06to report on the wading birds that live here.

0:04:06 > 0:04:09Come on! Let's go and find some birds.

0:04:10 > 0:04:14Marshes are wet, muddy patches of land.

0:04:14 > 0:04:18Reeds and other plants love to grow in them.

0:04:18 > 0:04:21It's actually fascinating just sitting here.

0:04:21 > 0:04:26- Can you hear the bird calls? - Yeah, I can.

0:04:26 > 0:04:30- I can see the hut from over here. - Me as well.

0:04:30 > 0:04:33Let's go to that hide and spot some birds!

0:04:33 > 0:04:39'Lots of birds can be found in marshlands all year round.

0:04:39 > 0:04:44'But lots more flock here from colder countries

0:04:44 > 0:04:46'for the warmer winter.'

0:04:50 > 0:04:55'We are here in this hide trying to spot the birds.'

0:04:55 > 0:04:59'We got our binoculars to get a better view.

0:04:59 > 0:05:03'We have to keep very quiet and still to see them.'

0:05:03 > 0:05:06I can see everything from here. It's a lovely view.

0:05:09 > 0:05:12'There are lots of different wading birds here.

0:05:12 > 0:05:15'Look at their long legs wading in the water!

0:05:15 > 0:05:18'That's why they're called wading birds.'

0:05:18 > 0:05:20'I've spotted a redshank.

0:05:20 > 0:05:23'It's a medium-sized wading bird.

0:05:23 > 0:05:28'Can you see its long red legs and long straight beak?

0:05:28 > 0:05:33'You can spot this bird all year round.'

0:05:33 > 0:05:36'I saw lots of birds flying in the water.'

0:05:36 > 0:05:40'Oh! I can see a black-tailed godwit!

0:05:40 > 0:05:44'This is a large grey wading bird.'

0:05:44 > 0:05:47'Look at its long straight beak.'

0:05:47 > 0:05:49'It has a black tail.

0:05:49 > 0:05:54'Which is why it's called a black-tailed godwit.'

0:05:54 > 0:05:56I can see a lapwing!

0:05:56 > 0:05:59'It is black and white.

0:05:59 > 0:06:03'Look at its beautiful crest of feathers on its head.

0:06:03 > 0:06:07'They are all huddled together to roost.'

0:06:09 > 0:06:12'The birds are feeding in the mud.

0:06:12 > 0:06:19'There are lots of crabs, insects, worms and shellfish

0:06:19 > 0:06:21'to be found in the mud.

0:06:21 > 0:06:24'The birds are really far away now.'

0:06:27 > 0:06:30We hope you enjoyed seeing the birds with us.

0:06:30 > 0:06:33You should go and find some too. Bye!

0:06:39 > 0:06:43You wouldn't have chased those birds, would you?

0:06:43 > 0:06:46I think he would, Cat. It says in this book

0:06:46 > 0:06:49that they're in the same family as lions and tigers.

0:06:49 > 0:06:52And they are all hunters.

0:06:52 > 0:06:55- They're the big cats. - Why are they called that?

0:06:55 > 0:06:58Because I think lions and tigers are their cousins.

0:06:58 > 0:07:01Are they the same, just bigger?

0:07:01 > 0:07:05I wonder. He does look a bit like a tiger with this stripes,

0:07:05 > 0:07:07and he is a bit of a hunter.

0:07:07 > 0:07:10Does he have sharp eyes?

0:07:16 > 0:07:18Hee!

0:07:18 > 0:07:21He's liking that.

0:07:21 > 0:07:23Oh, yes. Hunter.

0:07:23 > 0:07:25Does he have sharp ears?

0:07:26 > 0:07:28SQUEAK

0:07:28 > 0:07:30Yes. Hunter.

0:07:30 > 0:07:33Does he have sharp claws?

0:07:33 > 0:07:35Let's look.

0:07:37 > 0:07:40Oh! Yes. Hunter.

0:07:40 > 0:07:44That's interesting. Basil's claws can go in and out.

0:07:44 > 0:07:46Skipper's just stay out.

0:07:46 > 0:07:50That's funny. I wonder if the big cats can do that as well.

0:07:50 > 0:07:54Look at his sharp teeth. They're like a tiger's, too.

0:07:54 > 0:07:56- What does he eat?- Cat food.

0:07:56 > 0:08:01- Is that meat?- Yes. - Big cats eat meat as well,

0:08:01 > 0:08:05so really, Basil is a little big cat!

0:08:06 > 0:08:10Did you know that Nature Chris is in Africa at the moment?

0:08:10 > 0:08:14Wow! Did you know that there's lots of big cats there?

0:08:14 > 0:08:18- That's right!- We should ask Nature Chris to find out about them.

0:08:18 > 0:08:20I'll do it!

0:08:20 > 0:08:24We're going on a lion hunt. How about that?

0:08:24 > 0:08:28But are the lions really like our little cat?

0:08:41 > 0:08:44What on earth is this?

0:08:44 > 0:08:47This looks like a Green Balloon Club mission to me.

0:08:47 > 0:08:51It says, "We're going on a lion hunt - how about that?

0:08:51 > 0:08:55"But are the lions really like our little cat?"

0:08:55 > 0:08:57Well, I am in the Masai Mara in Africa,

0:08:57 > 0:09:01and this is probably the best place in the world to see lions.

0:09:01 > 0:09:05So I guess we better get going. What I need for this is a special car.

0:09:07 > 0:09:10Ah, here we are.

0:09:16 > 0:09:19AFRICAN MUSIC

0:09:34 > 0:09:37I've heard reports that there's a group of lions

0:09:37 > 0:09:41at a place called Bila Shaka, so that's where we're heading now.

0:09:47 > 0:09:51I know this mission was supposed to be about lions,

0:09:51 > 0:09:56but I just couldn't resist stopping to have a look at these guys.

0:10:01 > 0:10:06The lions are here as well, right next to these elephants!

0:10:10 > 0:10:14This is a pride of lions.

0:10:15 > 0:10:18Now, a pride is another word for a family.

0:10:18 > 0:10:21In this family, there are four females

0:10:21 > 0:10:24and nine cubs.

0:10:24 > 0:10:27There are two males as well but they're not here at the moment.

0:10:27 > 0:10:29They're the ones with big bushy manes.

0:10:29 > 0:10:32And these cubs are just like kittens back home.

0:10:32 > 0:10:36They love nothing more than having a good play.

0:10:36 > 0:10:39You looked at the eyes on your kitten.

0:10:39 > 0:10:43Although I can't test the eyesight of these ones,

0:10:43 > 0:10:45I can assure you it's really good.

0:10:45 > 0:10:50They've got a lovely big eye which they use to hunt with.

0:10:50 > 0:10:55Another thing you looked at was the claws on your kitten.

0:10:55 > 0:10:57Now, these lions have exactly the same.

0:10:57 > 0:11:01At the moment you probably won't be able to see them,

0:11:01 > 0:11:04but when they do get them out, they are massive.

0:11:04 > 0:11:08You can see by the size of their paws, absolutely huge.

0:11:11 > 0:11:14And then there's the teeth, of course.

0:11:14 > 0:11:17These guys have got some absolutely huge teeth

0:11:17 > 0:11:20and they use those to eat meat,

0:11:20 > 0:11:22just like the kittens back home.

0:11:22 > 0:11:26But the meat these guys eat isn't the kind that comes out of a can.

0:11:26 > 0:11:29No, they have to catch all of their own.

0:11:29 > 0:11:32These lions are real hunters.

0:11:35 > 0:11:39I'm going to stay and watch these lions a bit longer,

0:11:39 > 0:11:43but I think that's mission complete. Back to you in the Green Balloon.

0:11:48 > 0:11:50Lucky Nature Chris!

0:11:50 > 0:11:53I'd love to go to Africa.

0:11:53 > 0:11:57Hey, Skipper, we'd better watch out for our little cat!

0:11:57 > 0:12:00- It could be dangerous. - Is something wrong, Skipper?

0:12:00 > 0:12:04I think she's a bit fed up with all the talk about cats.

0:12:04 > 0:12:08Is it true that Skipper's claws don't go in and out like Basil's?

0:12:08 > 0:12:13I don't know. Would you mind if we had a look, Skipper?

0:12:14 > 0:12:17Look. I think they stay out.

0:12:17 > 0:12:19Yeah, from underneath the fur.

0:12:19 > 0:12:22They're not sharp. Not like cats.

0:12:22 > 0:12:26That's interesting. I never knew that!

0:12:26 > 0:12:28Special report! Special report!

0:12:28 > 0:12:30Here's Jelly with a special report.

0:12:30 > 0:12:33Let's hope it's not about cats, eh, Skipper?

0:12:44 > 0:12:49That scarecrow looks like Jelly from the Green Balloon Club!

0:12:49 > 0:12:54Oh, no! It's me, Jelly, from CBeebies!

0:12:54 > 0:12:58I'm not a scarecrow. I'm here to do a special report.

0:12:58 > 0:13:02Do you want to come and look at all the scarecrows with us?

0:13:02 > 0:13:04Oh, yes, please! I would love to!

0:13:04 > 0:13:06- Come on, then!- OK!

0:13:06 > 0:13:10I can't believe they thought I was a scarecrow.

0:13:15 > 0:13:17Oh! Oh, look at this one!

0:13:17 > 0:13:20He doesn't look like he would scare any birds, does he?

0:13:20 > 0:13:22He's really friendly.

0:13:24 > 0:13:26Oh, this one's a funny one!

0:13:26 > 0:13:30There are lots of scarecrows in your village, aren't there?

0:13:30 > 0:13:35Yes, Jelly. We have a scarecrow festival every year

0:13:35 > 0:13:38and people put their scarecrows in their garden.

0:13:38 > 0:13:43Ah, I see, yeah! I do like this one.

0:13:43 > 0:13:45He really reminds me of someone.

0:13:48 > 0:13:52Oh, yes! That's it! He reminds me of Nature Chris. Yes.

0:13:52 > 0:13:57He's even got a pair of nabloculars and one of those funny jumpers.

0:13:57 > 0:14:00We've been making our own scarecrow, Jelly.

0:14:00 > 0:14:03- Come on, we'll show you.- OK.

0:14:04 > 0:14:07Hello, lady scarecrow!

0:14:07 > 0:14:10I think she needs some hair, doesn't she?

0:14:10 > 0:14:13- Great. We've got some straw. - Are you going to use that?

0:14:13 > 0:14:15Go on, then!

0:14:15 > 0:14:19We're putting some straw on a lady scarecrow.

0:14:19 > 0:14:21She looks so pretty.

0:14:24 > 0:14:27She's looking like a real girl now, isn't she?

0:14:27 > 0:14:32Yes, yes. I think Mrs Scarecrow is going to do a really good job

0:14:32 > 0:14:36of scaring the crows away from your vegetables.

0:14:36 > 0:14:40What if the birds want to eat them? Won't they be hungry?

0:14:40 > 0:14:44No, Jelly. We've got a bird-feeder over there.

0:14:44 > 0:14:48Oh, that's good. I wouldn't want the nice birdies to be hungry.

0:14:48 > 0:14:51Shall we go over there for a bit

0:14:51 > 0:14:55- and see if Mrs Lady Scarecrow does her job?- Yeah.

0:14:55 > 0:14:58Good luck, Mrs Scarecrow! Oh, wait for me.

0:15:00 > 0:15:03What do you think, girls?

0:15:03 > 0:15:05She's doing a good job, isn't she?

0:15:05 > 0:15:08- No crows!- No crows.

0:15:08 > 0:15:12Still no crows! There are no crows!

0:15:12 > 0:15:16Well done, Mrs Lady Scarecrow!

0:15:45 > 0:15:49# Up jumped the scarecrow

0:15:49 > 0:15:52# And this is what he said

0:15:52 > 0:15:57# I'm a dingle-dangle scarecrow with a flippy-floppy hat

0:15:57 > 0:16:02# I can shake my hands like this And shake my feet like that. #

0:16:02 > 0:16:06That's wonderful, Lily-Rose. Basil really liked that.

0:16:16 > 0:16:19First of all, wrap this round.

0:16:39 > 0:16:42And now I need to put this through.

0:16:45 > 0:16:50- And...can you hold this straw up for me there?- Yep.

0:16:50 > 0:16:52Thanks.

0:17:18 > 0:17:20Now, we'll draw a face.

0:17:24 > 0:17:27Scarecrows don't have that kind of mouth.
