0:00:01 > 0:00:02It's term time again,

0:00:02 > 0:00:06and our four magicians have left school on a brand-new mission.

0:00:07 > 0:00:10But do you think you'd recognise them

0:00:10 > 0:00:12if they were outside the classroom?

0:00:12 > 0:00:13Do you?

0:00:14 > 0:00:18Now's your chance, cos they're going deeper undercover,

0:00:18 > 0:00:22with new disguises, ambitious costumes and even taller tales.

0:00:23 > 0:00:25HE SINGS OPERATICALLY

0:00:26 > 0:00:30This time, we're taking unsuspecting kids out of school,

0:00:30 > 0:00:34piling them on coaches and sending them on school trips.

0:00:34 > 0:00:36They're off to visit some amazing locations,

0:00:36 > 0:00:39where they'll witness incredible magic.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41I was like, "Oh, my gosh!"

0:00:41 > 0:00:44And once again, we're hiding secret cameras in every corner

0:00:44 > 0:00:48so you don't miss a trick on any school trip.

0:00:48 > 0:00:50The magic is bigger than ever.

0:00:50 > 0:00:54- Wow!- It might be term time, but school's out.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56I can't believe our teachers did that.

0:00:56 > 0:00:58How long will it take before the classes shout...

0:01:05 > 0:01:09Hello. It's me, Iain, and welcome to "Help! My School Trip is Magic".

0:01:09 > 0:01:12Our magicians are no longer supply teachers.

0:01:12 > 0:01:16They are now imitating staff in some popular attractions.

0:01:16 > 0:01:21And because we know you know them, we've disguised them even more.

0:01:21 > 0:01:24We've secretly filmed the results with special hidden cameras.

0:01:24 > 0:01:28Today, we're visiting a science institution.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30I mean, I love science, cos it's a bit like magic.

0:01:30 > 0:01:34You know? Things that seem impossible suddenly become possible.

0:01:34 > 0:01:36Like flight.

0:01:36 > 0:01:37Mobile phones.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40And even laser eye surgery.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44Here's what's coming up on today's show.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50James adds shocking science to his body of work.

0:01:52 > 0:01:54Fergus cuts to the chase

0:01:54 > 0:01:59with some sharp but safe magic in Tricks of the Trade.

0:01:59 > 0:02:02You've been sending in clips of all your best magic tricks,

0:02:02 > 0:02:07and later I'll be picking my favourite. It's the wannabe wizards.

0:02:07 > 0:02:09And John's clearing up after dogs

0:02:09 > 0:02:11while his magic assistant lies down on the job.

0:02:11 > 0:02:15She's a lazy so-and-so, I'll tell you. She really is.

0:02:15 > 0:02:19Do you think you'd be able to tell if your school trip was magic?

0:02:19 > 0:02:20Do you?

0:02:22 > 0:02:23This is James.

0:02:23 > 0:02:27His deck may be empty but he's never out of ideas.

0:02:27 > 0:02:28Here we go.

0:02:31 > 0:02:35Whoa! Where did they come from? Great trick!

0:02:35 > 0:02:37I'm a big "fan" of his work.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41This is year four. They are fans of school trips.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44They've never been on one like this before, though,

0:02:44 > 0:02:46cos it's going to be magical.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49They're going to the Royal Institution of Great Britain,

0:02:49 > 0:02:53an organisation devoted to scientific education.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55James will add his magical formula,

0:02:55 > 0:02:57but first we need to doctor his looks.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59Hot stuff.

0:02:59 > 0:03:02Meanwhile, our school trip is no longer light years away.

0:03:02 > 0:03:06It will be there quicker than you can say "Higgs boson".

0:03:06 > 0:03:08James is in the lab cooking up how to present his trick,

0:03:08 > 0:03:10but time's cracking on.

0:03:12 > 0:03:14Eureka! I think he's got it.

0:03:15 > 0:03:20Good job, cos the kids are here, so let's hear what they can expect.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23So, today's presentation, I get to bisect a live human being

0:03:23 > 0:03:26right before their very eyes. It's going to be great.

0:03:26 > 0:03:28Did he say bisect?

0:03:28 > 0:03:31By Jove, the kids are going to be in pieces when they see that.

0:03:32 > 0:03:37But first, they need to inspect some scientific apparatus.

0:03:37 > 0:03:41James is in the library, but what he's about to do isn't in any book.

0:03:41 > 0:03:44The cameras are set in, the kids are sent in,

0:03:44 > 0:03:46but they don't know they've been set up.

0:03:46 > 0:03:48Over to you, James, you little lab rat.

0:03:48 > 0:03:51Hello, everybody. My name is Dr Phil Good.

0:03:51 > 0:03:55Hang on a minute. Dr Phil Good? More like Dr Feel Good at the moment.

0:03:55 > 0:03:58The class haven't spotted James in scientific disguise.

0:03:58 > 0:04:01Today we're here to talk about nanotechnology.

0:04:01 > 0:04:05Now, does anybody know what nanotechnology is?

0:04:05 > 0:04:08My nan's technology involves tea and digestive biscuits.

0:04:08 > 0:04:10Nanotechnology is technology that happens

0:04:10 > 0:04:16on a very, very, very, very, very, very small level. So...

0:04:16 > 0:04:19Yep, my nan's very small, too.

0:04:19 > 0:04:22..and our developments in this area have led us to discover

0:04:22 > 0:04:26that we can use nanotechnology to regenerate organic matter.

0:04:26 > 0:04:27Isn't that exciting?

0:04:27 > 0:04:30And it's going to get way more exciting yet.

0:04:30 > 0:04:33We're going to do two experiments today that are going to show us that.

0:04:33 > 0:04:35For "experiments", read "magic tricks".

0:04:35 > 0:04:39The first one, we're going to use a rose and a cooling agent.

0:04:39 > 0:04:41So, this is my cooling agent

0:04:41 > 0:04:44that I'm going to take and place into this flask, like so.

0:04:45 > 0:04:48- There we go.- James is trained to deal with danger.

0:04:48 > 0:04:52You aren't, so don't handle pots of potentially hazardous chemicals.

0:04:52 > 0:04:53Great reaction, though.

0:04:53 > 0:04:55And what's happening in there

0:04:55 > 0:04:58is the temperature is now very, very low,

0:04:58 > 0:04:59and we're going to take the rose

0:04:59 > 0:05:03and we're going to dip it into the cooling agent, like so.

0:05:03 > 0:05:05That's going to be one frozen rose.

0:05:05 > 0:05:08Now you should see that as the rose starts to get cold,

0:05:08 > 0:05:10the vapour comes off the petals.

0:05:10 > 0:05:13I'm going to leave this in there rather a long time

0:05:13 > 0:05:15so it gets very, very cold. In fact, it's going to freeze.

0:05:15 > 0:05:17The matter inside the petals

0:05:17 > 0:05:20is just going to become very hard and very brittle.

0:05:20 > 0:05:23It might be brittle, but this trick's going to be strong.

0:05:23 > 0:05:24Now, the whole process of this

0:05:24 > 0:05:26is to do with the reversal of the procedure,

0:05:26 > 0:05:28so while that's freezing

0:05:28 > 0:05:30we're just going to come over here and start some heat.

0:05:30 > 0:05:33Now, careful. James and naked flames do mix,

0:05:33 > 0:05:35but you should never play with fire cos it can hurt.

0:05:35 > 0:05:39Now, what's happened is it's become very, very, very cold inside the rose

0:05:39 > 0:05:41and the petals have become very fragile.

0:05:41 > 0:05:43James is a very delicate flower.

0:05:43 > 0:05:47No, I mean James is being delicate with the flower.

0:05:47 > 0:05:48Just grab hold and just give it a flick.

0:05:48 > 0:05:50Is that a magic flick?

0:05:50 > 0:05:54The petals actually wilt off the rose because it's so cold and brittle.

0:05:54 > 0:05:55CHILDREN GASP And as you can see...

0:05:55 > 0:05:57The class haven't smelt a rat,

0:05:57 > 0:05:59and hopefully James comes up smelling of roses.

0:05:59 > 0:06:03Now, the idea is that we can take this organic matter,

0:06:03 > 0:06:05in this case the petals from the rose,

0:06:05 > 0:06:09and reverse the process by rapidly heating it up. Does that make sense?

0:06:09 > 0:06:11So we've rapidly cooled them in the flask

0:06:11 > 0:06:14and now we're going to reverse the procedure and rapidly warm them up.

0:06:14 > 0:06:19Can James restore the frozen rose to its full glory by adding heat?

0:06:19 > 0:06:21I'm going to take some of the rose petals from the bottom.

0:06:21 > 0:06:23Just there. Got to be very careful.

0:06:23 > 0:06:25He's plucking at those petals.

0:06:25 > 0:06:27Tweezy does it.

0:06:27 > 0:06:31And we're going to heat them up very quickly on this candle.

0:06:31 > 0:06:34Now, this happens very fast, so we'll have to go very carefully,

0:06:34 > 0:06:37and I'm going to touch the petals to the flame

0:06:37 > 0:06:39and hopefully... CHILDREN GASP

0:06:39 > 0:06:43..restore them to their original form. Isn't that marvellous?

0:06:43 > 0:06:45Whoa, let's get a rewind!

0:06:49 > 0:06:53The flower is reborn. That's blooming great stuff.

0:06:53 > 0:06:55The class are wowed. Do they suspect?

0:06:55 > 0:06:58Can James put a lid on it before the secret formula is out?

0:06:58 > 0:07:01There's no need to applaud. Really, it's just science.

0:07:01 > 0:07:02But it's very exciting, isn't it?

0:07:02 > 0:07:05Nice one, Doc. Great appliance of science.

0:07:05 > 0:07:09The class loved it, but will they be fans of the magic coming up,

0:07:09 > 0:07:13when James uses misdirection to perform a bisection?

0:07:13 > 0:07:16Now Fergus is going to set you a magical challenge

0:07:16 > 0:07:17in Tricks of the Trade.

0:07:17 > 0:07:19If you fancy yourself as a magician,

0:07:19 > 0:07:22here's a trick you can try on your mates.

0:07:22 > 0:07:25Fergus will show you how to fit your entire body

0:07:25 > 0:07:27through a single hole in a piece of paper.

0:07:27 > 0:07:30Can you work out how to do it?

0:07:30 > 0:07:32Keep watching, and you'll find out later in the show.

0:07:32 > 0:07:34It's going to be incredible.

0:07:37 > 0:07:40High time to return to the science institution,

0:07:40 > 0:07:44where James has been doctoring the truth in his lab coat.

0:07:44 > 0:07:47The rose went from dead petals to fine fettle,

0:07:47 > 0:07:49but can he scare the living daylights

0:07:49 > 0:07:52- out of these school trippers? - Now, as you can see...

0:07:52 > 0:07:53we can use this technology

0:07:53 > 0:07:58to separate and restore far bigger pieces of organic matter,

0:07:58 > 0:08:00not just roses or plants.

0:08:00 > 0:08:03We can actually do humans, and that's what we're going to do now.

0:08:03 > 0:08:05We're going to use Miss Line. Miss Line, if you could come and help me.

0:08:05 > 0:08:08And if you'd like to just lie on the table there.

0:08:08 > 0:08:09The pupils think she works here,

0:08:09 > 0:08:12but Miss Line is James's magical assistant.

0:08:12 > 0:08:15Now, Miss Line is positioning herself over the main sensor area,

0:08:15 > 0:08:20and we're just going to put some dynamic dispersion domes on top

0:08:20 > 0:08:24to activate the nanotechnology.

0:08:24 > 0:08:27Obviously, when doing this you have to be very, very careful

0:08:27 > 0:08:31that we put these on correctly. We don't want to put them on wrong.

0:08:31 > 0:08:35This futuristic-looking device is about to house some massive illusion

0:08:35 > 0:08:38and it's one that will cause mass confusion.

0:08:38 > 0:08:41We're also going to take the other one for her leg.

0:08:41 > 0:08:44So, Miss Line, if you could lie very still, that would be perfect.

0:08:44 > 0:08:46I'm going to take this one and pop it straight on top here.

0:08:46 > 0:08:49And that's good. Good.

0:08:49 > 0:08:51Now, it's obviously very important

0:08:51 > 0:08:53that because we're using such small technology

0:08:53 > 0:08:57that we're very accurate with where we place our sensors.

0:08:57 > 0:09:01I'm sensing some magic, and I bet Miss Line is sensing danger.

0:09:01 > 0:09:04Alan, could you come up and help me put on the head and the ankle rest?

0:09:04 > 0:09:07That would be great. If we do the feet first, that would be great.

0:09:07 > 0:09:10Fergus looks like an Alan. Suits him.

0:09:10 > 0:09:14So, as I said, it's very important that we're very, very accurate

0:09:14 > 0:09:16with how we pinpoint our technology,

0:09:16 > 0:09:19which is why it's important just to slightly restrict the movement.

0:09:19 > 0:09:24Miss Line is well and truly secured in that unit. She's going nowhere.

0:09:24 > 0:09:26..allowing us to be very accurate indeed.

0:09:26 > 0:09:28I'm just going to be very careful there.

0:09:28 > 0:09:29Is that OK for you, Miss Line?

0:09:29 > 0:09:31OK. Got to move the top there.

0:09:31 > 0:09:32And if we just straighten...

0:09:32 > 0:09:34Science occasionally needs a human guinea pig,

0:09:34 > 0:09:37but if I was her I'd be having kittens.

0:09:37 > 0:09:41The thermal plates would be good now. So if we could bring those out...

0:09:41 > 0:09:45Now, the thermal plates are going to allow us to bisect Miss Line here.

0:09:45 > 0:09:47Whoa, whoa, whoa, did he just say bisect?

0:09:47 > 0:09:50Surely he's not going to put those through her body!

0:09:50 > 0:09:52This might tickle a bit, as you know.

0:09:52 > 0:09:55So, we're just going to pop that in. How is that? Is that OK?

0:09:55 > 0:09:57- Yes.- Good. We'll just do that.

0:09:57 > 0:09:59Oh! That made me jump.

0:09:59 > 0:10:00Yes, yes, it's all very good.

0:10:00 > 0:10:06And then we'll take the other plate and do the top half, like this.

0:10:06 > 0:10:10The wonderful thing about this is we don't have to use any anaesthesia.

0:10:10 > 0:10:12Just make sure we've got that in there.

0:10:12 > 0:10:14Uh-oh, it's stuck. Good job James is a doc.

0:10:14 > 0:10:16Except he isn't.

0:10:18 > 0:10:21He pulled her head and it's gone in! Ouch.

0:10:21 > 0:10:25The thermal plates have bisected Miss Line in the middle.

0:10:25 > 0:10:28Miss Line is split by what James is calling the thermal plates,

0:10:28 > 0:10:30but her body seems OK.

0:10:32 > 0:10:36They're undoing the catches, and the catch is that this is magic.

0:10:36 > 0:10:40So therefore we can completely separate Miss Lang.

0:10:40 > 0:10:43I can't believe my eyes. I can't believe her legs.

0:10:43 > 0:10:45That is one trick and a half.

0:10:45 > 0:10:49Now, imagine the possibilities of this technology

0:10:49 > 0:10:53once it's rolled out into hospitals all over the country.

0:10:53 > 0:10:55- And are you OK, Miss Line? - Yes.- Fantastic.

0:10:55 > 0:10:58Miss Line's OK. And you can see we temporarily bisected you,

0:10:58 > 0:11:01using the same technology as the rose. Alan...?

0:11:01 > 0:11:04Do you remember the rose? It was froze and then it rose again.

0:11:06 > 0:11:09Can James and Fergus keep it together?

0:11:09 > 0:11:11Can they put Miss Line back together?

0:11:11 > 0:11:14And, Alan, if you could do the curtain, please?

0:11:14 > 0:11:16A legendary trick is secured.

0:11:16 > 0:11:18And do the curtain.

0:11:18 > 0:11:21Fantastic. And if you could just pop your hand in there, Miss Line,

0:11:21 > 0:11:24that would be great. And of course take the plate out.

0:11:24 > 0:11:26The plates must come out.

0:11:26 > 0:11:27The plates are out,

0:11:27 > 0:11:29but have the class kept their food down

0:11:29 > 0:11:31at this stomach-wrenching trick?

0:11:31 > 0:11:33Let's take out the head and ankle rests,

0:11:33 > 0:11:35and we'll do the head first this time, I think.

0:11:35 > 0:11:39There. And we're just going to take this restraint off her head.

0:11:39 > 0:11:42She's remarkably calm, and the class are breathing in.

0:11:42 > 0:11:45That would be great, Alan.

0:11:45 > 0:11:46Great.

0:11:46 > 0:11:49Fantastic. And if we just square up...

0:11:50 > 0:11:53..and release the catches on the front.

0:11:53 > 0:11:54Hope she's all right.

0:11:54 > 0:11:57And of course on the back.

0:11:57 > 0:11:58Wonderful. And if you take the bottom half,

0:11:58 > 0:12:02and I will take the top half, as it were.

0:12:02 > 0:12:05Fantastic. And I'll take the top off, being very careful.

0:12:05 > 0:12:08And there we go, Miss Line, everybody. Isn't she marvellous?

0:12:08 > 0:12:11And just help you up. OK, up you go.

0:12:11 > 0:12:12Phew, she's good as new,

0:12:12 > 0:12:15and it's about time the class knew the secret.

0:12:15 > 0:12:19As well as the two marvellous things we've shown you today,

0:12:19 > 0:12:22we've actually got another thing to tell you.

0:12:22 > 0:12:23This is very, very exciting.

0:12:23 > 0:12:28Basically, my name isn't Phil Good at all. My name is James.

0:12:28 > 0:12:31I'm not actually called Alan. I'm called Fergus.

0:12:31 > 0:12:33And you're being secretly filmed

0:12:33 > 0:12:36on cameras hidden here and here and here

0:12:36 > 0:12:40for CBBC's "Help! My School Trip is Magic"!

0:12:40 > 0:12:42CHEERING

0:12:43 > 0:12:47The class are cheering in excitement and relief.

0:12:47 > 0:12:49Has it been a great trick? Not half.

0:12:49 > 0:12:52I thought that trick was amazing.

0:12:52 > 0:12:53How is that? Is that OK?

0:12:53 > 0:12:56James performed surgical magic that was shockingly good.

0:12:56 > 0:13:01When they put the plate on her skin, it felt really scary.

0:13:01 > 0:13:04Not as scary as it felt for his assistant, you'd think.

0:13:06 > 0:13:10What I really liked was when they separated the lady,

0:13:10 > 0:13:13and I was like, "Oh, my gosh!"

0:13:13 > 0:13:15Not to worry, though, she went back together,

0:13:15 > 0:13:17and opinion was most certainly not divided.

0:13:17 > 0:13:20It was absolutely fantastic.

0:13:20 > 0:13:24Don't know about One Direction, this was One Bisection.

0:13:24 > 0:13:27This school trip had no idea James was a magician.

0:13:27 > 0:13:29How long would it take for YOU to shout...

0:13:35 > 0:13:37Still to come, hold your breath.

0:13:37 > 0:13:41Fergus may reveal the secret in Tricks of the Trade.

0:13:41 > 0:13:43Does John know the answer?

0:13:43 > 0:13:45Katherine has a ball at the dogs' home

0:13:45 > 0:13:48and John causes a ruckus when he raises his colleague,

0:13:48 > 0:13:50but will he raise the roof?

0:13:50 > 0:13:53Or will the kids realise their school trip is magic?

0:13:54 > 0:13:58But first, we asked you to send in clips of yourselves

0:13:58 > 0:14:00performing your best magic tricks.

0:14:00 > 0:14:03We received loads of clips from all over the country.

0:14:03 > 0:14:07Each week, I'll be choosing a favourite wannabe wizard

0:14:07 > 0:14:09and showing them to you guys.

0:14:09 > 0:14:12My wannabe wizard this time is Salmand from London,

0:14:12 > 0:14:15and he's enlisted some help from home.

0:14:15 > 0:14:19I've got a glass and circle platform.

0:14:19 > 0:14:21Otherwise known as a blue lid.

0:14:21 > 0:14:26We're going to place it on top. Nice and sealed.

0:14:26 > 0:14:28- Sealed. OK. - Yep, nothing can get in there.

0:14:28 > 0:14:29Do you have a 5p coin?

0:14:29 > 0:14:31- Oh, yeah.- Perfect.

0:14:31 > 0:14:36OK, what I'm going to do, I'm going to go one...

0:14:36 > 0:14:37Watch that coin.

0:14:37 > 0:14:39..two, three. CLINK

0:14:39 > 0:14:40I heard it go.

0:14:40 > 0:14:43I'm going to take it...

0:14:43 > 0:14:45and I'm just going to shake it.

0:14:46 > 0:14:47Oh, my...

0:14:47 > 0:14:49And I just...

0:14:49 > 0:14:52..giddy aunt, the coin is inside the glass!

0:14:52 > 0:14:55That is amazing.

0:14:55 > 0:14:57- You said it, mate.- How did you do that?- That is amazing.

0:14:57 > 0:14:59- He said it again. - How did you push that coin

0:14:59 > 0:15:01through the neck of the glass and the bottom?

0:15:01 > 0:15:03That is incredible. Can you check that coin?

0:15:03 > 0:15:07- They want proof. - Yeah, is it a real coin?

0:15:07 > 0:15:09Yeah, it's a real coin OK.

0:15:09 > 0:15:12Can you check the glass? I want to check the end of the glass,

0:15:12 > 0:15:15cos I think maybe you pushed it through here or...

0:15:15 > 0:15:18- No, that's a real glass. - Mummy?- Yep.

0:15:18 > 0:15:20A further verification is required.

0:15:20 > 0:15:23Yep. That's very good.

0:15:23 > 0:15:24So good it needs a rewind.

0:15:26 > 0:15:29- ..one...- The coin is outside the glass.- ..two, three.

0:15:29 > 0:15:31- CLINK - Where's it gone?

0:15:31 > 0:15:34..I'm going to take it...

0:15:34 > 0:15:36and I'm just going to shake it.

0:15:37 > 0:15:41There it is! No wonder they're impressed.

0:15:41 > 0:15:42Ta-da!

0:15:42 > 0:15:43Great trick.

0:15:43 > 0:15:45The great Salmando!

0:15:45 > 0:15:46Big finish.

0:15:48 > 0:15:51Here come magicians Katherine and John.

0:15:51 > 0:15:52They're honing their ball skills,

0:15:52 > 0:15:56as these will come in very handy for their next assignment.

0:15:56 > 0:15:57Look, now you see it.

0:15:57 > 0:15:59Now it's invisi-ball.

0:15:59 > 0:16:01Nice throw. Now off you go.

0:16:05 > 0:16:10This is year four clambering on the coach. Meet Grace.

0:16:10 > 0:16:14Katherine's going to call on her later on to assist in the magic.

0:16:14 > 0:16:17The kids have been told some big porky pies

0:16:17 > 0:16:19by their parents and their teachers.

0:16:19 > 0:16:21It's all for a good cause, though,

0:16:21 > 0:16:24as this school trip will start normally and end magically.

0:16:24 > 0:16:26They don't have a Scooby-Doo.

0:16:27 > 0:16:29The one thing they do know

0:16:29 > 0:16:31is they're off to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.

0:16:31 > 0:16:34Here they rehome dogs and cats

0:16:34 > 0:16:36and teach pet owners how to be responsible.

0:16:36 > 0:16:39Meanwhile, we'll be responsible for filling this lot

0:16:39 > 0:16:42with some dog "bone-a fide" magic.

0:16:42 > 0:16:43To throw them off the scent,

0:16:43 > 0:16:46our magicians have to adopt some clever disguises.

0:16:50 > 0:16:52Since the home opened over 150 years ago,

0:16:52 > 0:16:55they've taken in more than three million dogs and cats,

0:16:55 > 0:16:58and this class are about to be taken in

0:16:58 > 0:17:01by John and Katherine's shaggy dog story.

0:17:01 > 0:17:04In my trick today, I'm hoping John doesn't interrupt me,

0:17:04 > 0:17:05because he does that a lot...

0:17:05 > 0:17:07And I think you'll find that when you say that I interrupt...

0:17:07 > 0:17:09See?

0:17:09 > 0:17:11No, I... I thought there was a gap.

0:17:11 > 0:17:15Interruption's a little clue as to what might happen with the magic,

0:17:15 > 0:17:17but right now, the kids have arrived

0:17:17 > 0:17:20and they're keen to see some cute canines.

0:17:20 > 0:17:23And our canny conjurers are getting into character.

0:17:23 > 0:17:25It's time for walkies.

0:17:26 > 0:17:29Hard to know which furry fellow is walking who, eh?

0:17:29 > 0:17:32John hates walking.

0:17:32 > 0:17:34At least the class are more in control of the dogs

0:17:34 > 0:17:36than John and Katherine.

0:17:39 > 0:17:41Katherine's playing a highly disciplined dog trainer,

0:17:41 > 0:17:45so she's going to have to dig deep with her acting skills.

0:17:45 > 0:17:49John's going to play a cameo later. The class are nearby.

0:17:49 > 0:17:52Remember Grace? She's going to have a supporting role too.

0:17:55 > 0:17:58Incoming! This dog magic's going to be a treat.

0:18:04 > 0:18:08- Good morning, boys and girls. ALL:- Good morning.

0:18:08 > 0:18:11My name is Fiona Decat, but you can call me Fi.

0:18:11 > 0:18:14What's her name? Fi Decat?

0:18:14 > 0:18:17That's just the beginning of her shaggy dog story.

0:18:17 > 0:18:18This is my colleague, Sarah,

0:18:18 > 0:18:22and her lovely dog Maple we've got here to join us today.

0:18:22 > 0:18:25Her name really is Sarah and the dog IS called Maple.

0:18:25 > 0:18:27The other facts may well stray.

0:18:27 > 0:18:30Can anyone tell me what you think are the type of things

0:18:30 > 0:18:32we need to do to look after dogs?

0:18:32 > 0:18:34- Yes?- Exercise?

0:18:34 > 0:18:37Excellent. Well done. We need to exercise them, don't we?

0:18:37 > 0:18:41Now, here, when we exercise the dogs, we often play with the dogs,

0:18:41 > 0:18:43so I'm going to show you something.

0:18:43 > 0:18:45Who would like to come up and help me? What's your name?

0:18:45 > 0:18:47- It's Grace.- Grace.- Told you.

0:18:47 > 0:18:51- Come along, Grace.- Whoa, Katherine's really bossy as a dog trainer.

0:18:51 > 0:18:53And if you could pick up the bowl for me.

0:18:53 > 0:18:56That's perfect. And stand here. You can stand in front of Maple.

0:18:56 > 0:18:58That's all right.

0:18:58 > 0:19:02Now, this is the toy, the dog toy, that we love to use here.

0:19:02 > 0:19:06- Not true.- It's absolutely ideal. It's called dog toys in a can.

0:19:06 > 0:19:08Would you like to see what's inside?

0:19:08 > 0:19:10Here comes some canny magic.

0:19:10 > 0:19:14Now we're just going to open up the can here.

0:19:14 > 0:19:16I'll pop that in there.

0:19:16 > 0:19:20And you can see inside we've got the ideal dog toy.

0:19:20 > 0:19:22Can anyone tell me what this is? Yes?

0:19:22 > 0:19:24- Tennis ball. - It's a tennis ball. Very good.

0:19:24 > 0:19:26There's no fooling them.

0:19:26 > 0:19:27Or is there?

0:19:27 > 0:19:30Now, this is the perfect dog toy, because it lasts for ages

0:19:30 > 0:19:32and it doesn't make those irritating squeaky sounds.

0:19:32 > 0:19:35Oh, wouldn't want to irritate Katherine while she's in character.

0:19:35 > 0:19:38- Scary.- We'll pop that down there.

0:19:38 > 0:19:41Obviously, here we often take more than one dog out at a time,

0:19:41 > 0:19:43so if we have two dogs that we need to play with,

0:19:43 > 0:19:47this is a great toy, because you can see, you can just take out

0:19:47 > 0:19:49another tennis ball as well.

0:19:49 > 0:19:53And we can place that into the dog bowl also.

0:19:53 > 0:19:56OK, so two tennis balls have come out of the can.

0:19:56 > 0:19:57That's feasible.

0:19:58 > 0:20:01We often take out more than two dogs at once.

0:20:01 > 0:20:04Sometimes we may even take out a third dog.

0:20:04 > 0:20:08And if that's the case, then it's ideal, this toy,

0:20:08 > 0:20:11because then we have a third tennis ball as well.

0:20:11 > 0:20:15Hmm, three tennis balls in one can. Surely that doesn't add up.

0:20:15 > 0:20:18It's ideal for playing with the dog.

0:20:18 > 0:20:19We'll pop that one in there.

0:20:19 > 0:20:22"Perplexed" is how I'd sum up her expression.

0:20:22 > 0:20:25What do you think we'd do if we had a fourth dog to play with?

0:20:25 > 0:20:28Well, you'd get another can, wouldn't you?

0:20:28 > 0:20:31You'd need a fourth tennis ball, wouldn't you? Very good.

0:20:31 > 0:20:32Erm, here we go.

0:20:35 > 0:20:37It can't be, can it?

0:20:37 > 0:20:41So, you'd need a fourth tennis ball, like that.

0:20:41 > 0:20:44Four tennis balls in one can? That's ridiculous.

0:20:44 > 0:20:48And they can't get their head round this tall tale either.

0:20:48 > 0:20:51And of course sometimes we have even more than four dogs out playing

0:20:51 > 0:20:53with one keeper, so...

0:20:54 > 0:20:57That's it, surely. Katherine must be barking.

0:20:57 > 0:21:00What do you think we need? Yes?

0:21:00 > 0:21:02- A fifth tennis ball. - Absolutely. Good boy.

0:21:02 > 0:21:04We need a fifth tennis ball, don't we?

0:21:04 > 0:21:08So here we go. And this is our fifth tennis ball.

0:21:08 > 0:21:09There. Lovely.

0:21:09 > 0:21:13Five tennis balls, one can? She cannot be serious.

0:21:13 > 0:21:16Katherine's been toying with these canine-loving kids.

0:21:16 > 0:21:19So you'd need a fourth tennis ball, like that.

0:21:19 > 0:21:23Her dog toy in a can produced not ONE ball, not TWO balls...

0:21:23 > 0:21:25Well, you get the picture. There was five balls.

0:21:25 > 0:21:29And from that tiny can. It was incredible.

0:21:29 > 0:21:33Now that logic has gone walkies, it's time for Grace to sit,

0:21:33 > 0:21:34but it's not over yet.

0:21:34 > 0:21:36- Excuse me, miss.- Yes?

0:21:36 > 0:21:38Katherine is rudely interrupted by John,

0:21:38 > 0:21:41and it's not just his moustache that's surprising.

0:21:42 > 0:21:47Now it's time for Fergus to reveal the secret in Tricks of the Trade.

0:21:47 > 0:21:49Fergus will show you how to fit your entire body

0:21:49 > 0:21:53through a single hole in a piece of paper.

0:21:53 > 0:21:55Can you work it out?

0:21:55 > 0:21:58Do you breathe in tight?

0:21:58 > 0:22:02Nah. Do you do it through a massive piece of paper?

0:22:02 > 0:22:05You could do, but that wouldn't be very impressive, would it?

0:22:05 > 0:22:08Here's how. Pay close attention.

0:22:08 > 0:22:11First, you fold the piece of paper in half.

0:22:11 > 0:22:16Then, using a pair of scissors, safely cut it equal increments.

0:22:16 > 0:22:19Yeah, big old word, "increments".

0:22:19 > 0:22:22Cut it equal increments along the paper all the way to the edge,

0:22:22 > 0:22:23but no more.

0:22:23 > 0:22:27Get a boring grown-up to help you if you need.

0:22:27 > 0:22:31Turn the paper over and repeat the cuts along the card in the gaps.

0:22:34 > 0:22:37Finally, open the card flat...

0:22:39 > 0:22:41..and cut along the middle.

0:22:41 > 0:22:45Don't cut all the way to the very end, though.

0:22:45 > 0:22:49Once done, open up and climb through.

0:22:58 > 0:23:01Did you get it? Are you amazing already?

0:23:01 > 0:23:03Great trick, Fergus.

0:23:06 > 0:23:09Back to the dogs' home, where Katherine's been playing

0:23:09 > 0:23:12with the perceptions of these obedient pupils.

0:23:12 > 0:23:15This school trip is about to take an unexpected turn,

0:23:15 > 0:23:17when even more magic is unleashed.

0:23:17 > 0:23:19She's hopeless. She really is.

0:23:19 > 0:23:23So, here at the dogs' home we also do other things to look after dogs.

0:23:23 > 0:23:25What might that be? Any ideas?

0:23:25 > 0:23:28Who are these dodgy-looking characters in the background?

0:23:28 > 0:23:30Brush their hair. Excellent. Well done.

0:23:30 > 0:23:33- Excuse me?- Yes?- Would you mind keeping it down a bit, please?

0:23:33 > 0:23:35I'm in the middle of something. Thank you.

0:23:35 > 0:23:38We've just got to clean up a little bit. I mean, you're a bit late.

0:23:38 > 0:23:41Actually, I think you'll find I'm right on time, thank you.

0:23:41 > 0:23:42Katherine needs to keep her hair on...

0:23:42 > 0:23:45as does John. Nice wig, mate.

0:23:45 > 0:23:48Right, as I was saying, children, this is how you groom a dog, OK?

0:23:48 > 0:23:51Keep your eyes on John and his kennel-cleaning colleague.

0:23:51 > 0:23:54So, as you can see, all you do is take the brush like this,

0:23:54 > 0:23:57and you have to make sure you groom the dog in the direction of the hair.

0:23:57 > 0:24:00Katherine's keeping up appearances with her dog-grooming chat,

0:24:00 > 0:24:03but John's a bit of a wag, and he's got magic on his mind.

0:24:03 > 0:24:06You'll notice Maple has long hair on her ears.

0:24:06 > 0:24:08Can you see that? So sometimes ears can get matted

0:24:08 > 0:24:11if she gets taken out for some exercise, or to play,

0:24:11 > 0:24:14- and it's very important... - John's whistling while he works.

0:24:14 > 0:24:17I don't think Katherine's strict character will put up with that.

0:24:17 > 0:24:19..we just brush her ears like that.

0:24:19 > 0:24:22- Excuse me, miss.- Yes?- Yeah, I've got a bit of a problem.

0:24:22 > 0:24:25I've got to clean this dog bowl here, right?

0:24:25 > 0:24:28And my colleague has fallen asleep.

0:24:28 > 0:24:30I have to say, you're being quite a problem.

0:24:30 > 0:24:33The class don't know what to make of this little set-to.

0:24:33 > 0:24:35I was wondering whether you could keep an eye on her while I...

0:24:35 > 0:24:38SHE SIGHS All right. I do apologise, children.

0:24:38 > 0:24:41This one here, she's stood on it and gone to sleep.

0:24:41 > 0:24:43She's very sleepy, my partner, she nods off like that.

0:24:43 > 0:24:45Look at her. Spark out. I can't do a thing about it.

0:24:45 > 0:24:48She does appear to be asleep on that broomstick.

0:24:48 > 0:24:51..get hold of that dog bowl, you see? And...

0:24:51 > 0:24:55Whoa, John's body is levitating. The class can't believe it.

0:24:55 > 0:24:57Then what I can do, you see, I can...

0:24:57 > 0:25:00They can't work it out. There's nothing under her.

0:25:00 > 0:25:02- Well, except John. - I can clean this bowl out, you see?

0:25:02 > 0:25:05I mean, she can be like that for hours on end sometimes.

0:25:05 > 0:25:07She's a lazy so-and-so, I'll tell you, she really is.

0:25:07 > 0:25:11It's normally only witches that can fly on broomsticks.

0:25:11 > 0:25:15They weren't expecting this. John's off his cleaning trolley.

0:25:15 > 0:25:18His partner's off the broom and the magic's off the hook.

0:25:18 > 0:25:20You've done a lovely job.

0:25:20 > 0:25:23You've really... You've put a bit of weight on since Christmas.

0:25:23 > 0:25:25Thank you very much, madam. Lovely. Thank you very much.

0:25:25 > 0:25:28- You all right? You went spark out there.- Can you believe that?

0:25:28 > 0:25:30Katherine's been leading them on

0:25:30 > 0:25:32but she's about to let them in on the big secret.

0:25:32 > 0:25:34Well, everyone, I have a confession to make.

0:25:34 > 0:25:37My name isn't really Fi Decat.

0:25:38 > 0:25:41Actually, my name is Katherine, and...

0:25:41 > 0:25:42..I'm John.

0:25:42 > 0:25:44And we're magicians.

0:25:44 > 0:25:47They did spot the dog, but they didn't spot Katherine

0:25:47 > 0:25:48or those hidden cameras.

0:25:48 > 0:25:52And you've all been set up by your parents and your teachers

0:25:52 > 0:25:54and you're all being filmed right now.

0:25:54 > 0:25:56There's a camera over there,

0:25:56 > 0:25:59there's a camera over there and there's a camera over there,

0:25:59 > 0:26:02and you're going to be on CBBC's "Help! My School Trip Is Magic"!

0:26:02 > 0:26:04CHEERING

0:26:06 > 0:26:11That trick on a broomstick was sick, but who let John out of his cage?

0:26:11 > 0:26:13I don't believe what I just saw.

0:26:13 > 0:26:15Well, you better believe it.

0:26:15 > 0:26:19I "can" explain. First Katherine had a magical can.

0:26:19 > 0:26:22Here we go. This is our fifth tennis ball.

0:26:22 > 0:26:25When she took the tennis balls out I was really shocked,

0:26:25 > 0:26:26cos I didn't know how five tennis balls

0:26:26 > 0:26:29could fit in a really small can.

0:26:29 > 0:26:32Next up, Katherine was rudely interrupted by John

0:26:32 > 0:26:33posing as a kennel cleaner.

0:26:33 > 0:26:36I was wondering whether you could keep an eye on her while I...

0:26:36 > 0:26:38SHE SIGHS All right.

0:26:38 > 0:26:41I thought she was going to get cross with him when she walked over.

0:26:41 > 0:26:45John wanted Katherine to help him levitate his mate.

0:26:45 > 0:26:47She's a lazy so-and-so, I'll tell you, she really is.

0:26:47 > 0:26:50When he lifted her up under the broom,

0:26:50 > 0:26:52I was thinking, "How is that possible?"

0:26:52 > 0:26:55Magic. That's how.

0:26:55 > 0:26:58I thought I was dreaming. She was just in the air.

0:26:59 > 0:27:00In the air!

0:27:00 > 0:27:03With no-one holding her.

0:27:03 > 0:27:06The trick was certainly held in high esteem.

0:27:06 > 0:27:08This school trip never saw it coming,

0:27:08 > 0:27:10and they'll never forget the time they shouted...

0:27:17 > 0:27:20See you later, but until then, if you're on a school trip

0:27:20 > 0:27:22and you think something magic's going on,

0:27:22 > 0:27:28maybe you'll find yourself shouting, "Help! My school trip is magic!"
