0:00:26 > 0:00:30This time, we're taking unsuspecting kids out of school,

0:00:54 > 0:00:56I can't believe our teachers did that.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59How long will it take before the classes shout...?

0:01:05 > 0:01:09Hello. It's me, Iain, and welcome to Help! My School Trip is Magic.

0:01:09 > 0:01:12Our magicians are no longer supply teachers.

0:01:12 > 0:01:16They're now masquerading as staff in some popular attractions.

0:01:16 > 0:01:21And because we know you know them, we've disguised them even more.

0:01:21 > 0:01:25We've secretly filmed the results with special hidden cameras.

0:01:25 > 0:01:29Today, we have an exciting trip to an athletics stadium planned.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32I'm actually quite active myself.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34I actively avoid exercise.

0:01:34 > 0:01:38Which is why I've invented this -

0:01:38 > 0:01:40it's the jogging inducer.

0:01:42 > 0:01:43Oh! Cake!

0:01:45 > 0:01:46Here's what's coming up. Cake!

0:01:51 > 0:01:54Fergus's athletic magic stretches the imagination

0:01:54 > 0:01:55and turns heads at the track.

0:01:55 > 0:01:58Give it a twist all the way round like that.

0:01:58 > 0:02:01James shows you brilliant skills with a coin and a card

0:02:01 > 0:02:03in Tricks of the Trade.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05You've been sending in clips of all your best magic tricks,

0:02:05 > 0:02:08and later on I will be picking my favourite.

0:02:08 > 0:02:10It's the Wannabe Wizards.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13And John is about to blow some minds with spooky magic

0:02:13 > 0:02:15as the head curator at this attraction.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18Or should I say the shrunken head curator?

0:02:18 > 0:02:21CHILDREN SCREAM

0:02:21 > 0:02:24Cake, come here! Oh.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27Do you think you'd be able to tell if your school trip was magic?

0:02:27 > 0:02:29Do you?

0:02:29 > 0:02:30Cake!

0:02:32 > 0:02:34This is John and Fergus,

0:02:34 > 0:02:36great magicians and bessie mates.

0:02:36 > 0:02:37What's that?

0:02:37 > 0:02:40Ah, John's got Fergus a new pack of cards...

0:02:40 > 0:02:42and a dice...

0:02:42 > 0:02:44and a pen.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49A lolly! Fergus likes those.

0:02:49 > 0:02:53A crayon. How did that stuff get in there?

0:02:53 > 0:02:56Oh, there's more, a ball, always handy.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58What else is in there?

0:02:58 > 0:03:00Are you keeping notes of all this?

0:03:03 > 0:03:06That was always on the cards.

0:03:06 > 0:03:08- FERGUS MOUTHS: Wow!- Wow, indeed!

0:03:08 > 0:03:11But wait till you see the school trip.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15Here are year four and five getting on the coach.

0:03:15 > 0:03:19They've been set up by their teachers and their parents.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21They think they're going on a regular school trip,

0:03:21 > 0:03:23but it's going to be magic.

0:03:23 > 0:03:26They're going to the Lee Valley Athletics Centre

0:03:26 > 0:03:29to see the hi-tech sporting facilities where gold-medal winning

0:03:29 > 0:03:32Olympians Christine Ohuruogu and Greg Rutherford trained.

0:03:33 > 0:03:36Little do they know they're about to see

0:03:36 > 0:03:39some champion magicians achieve their personal best.

0:03:41 > 0:03:46That is after they've been disguised so the kids don't recognise them.

0:03:46 > 0:03:49While John and Fergus get wigs affixed and make-up applied,

0:03:49 > 0:03:53the class are on their way, blissfully unaware of what

0:03:53 > 0:03:56lies in store - or, indeed, on the track.

0:03:56 > 0:03:57Adios!

0:03:59 > 0:04:03John and Fergus are good sports for dressing as Team GB coaches,

0:04:03 > 0:04:07and John is going to play Fergus' dad...cos he's no athlete!

0:04:07 > 0:04:09I really would be proud to have Fergus as a son.

0:04:09 > 0:04:12Obviously I'm not old enough for that to happen.

0:04:12 > 0:04:16But if I was, he'd be my third choice.

0:04:16 > 0:04:17Here come the kids now.

0:04:17 > 0:04:20I hope the magicians are all warmed up and ready to go.

0:04:23 > 0:04:26I think John's saving himself for the big event.

0:04:30 > 0:04:32They'd better make their way to the starting blocks.

0:04:37 > 0:04:40The school trip seems perfectly normal so far.

0:04:40 > 0:04:42They're excited to see the world-class track,

0:04:42 > 0:04:46but soon they'll be wowed by a world-class trick or three.

0:04:47 > 0:04:50John and Fergus - or should I say Dad and Junior? -

0:04:50 > 0:04:51are on their marks.

0:04:52 > 0:04:55Here comes the class and they're ready!

0:04:55 > 0:04:57Get set and go magic!

0:04:58 > 0:05:01- Good morning, boys and girls. CHILDREN:- Good morning.

0:05:01 > 0:05:04Yes, and welcome here. This is the Lee Valley Athletics Centre

0:05:04 > 0:05:09responsible for training highly efficient athletes like myself

0:05:09 > 0:05:12and others that you may have seen on the television competing in games.

0:05:12 > 0:05:14Now, my names is Mr Wigon, you can call me Ivor,

0:05:14 > 0:05:16that's my first name, Ivor, I let my friends call me Ivor.

0:05:16 > 0:05:20Hang on a minute, did he say his name was Ivor Wigon?

0:05:20 > 0:05:23- This is my son, here. This is Radley. - Radley Wigon?

0:05:23 > 0:05:25He's just training up, aren't you, Radley?

0:05:25 > 0:05:27- QUIETLY:- That's right. - Speak up nice and loud, son.

0:05:27 > 0:05:30- SQUEAKY VOICE:- That's right, yeah. - Wonderful!

0:05:30 > 0:05:33Fergus has squeaky voice and he's in disguise. It's squeaky bum time!

0:05:33 > 0:05:34Get down and give me five, son!

0:05:34 > 0:05:36Get down and give me five. Discipline.

0:05:36 > 0:05:39The girl with the pink flower doesn't know what to make of John.

0:05:39 > 0:05:40She should join the club.

0:05:40 > 0:05:42See how he did that? Didn't even flinch.

0:05:42 > 0:05:44Well done, son, that's lovely. Now, one of the things we do

0:05:44 > 0:05:47when we arrive here is obviously dish out the equipment.

0:05:47 > 0:05:49We've got this small equipment here we keep these in the, er,

0:05:49 > 0:05:51sports equipment buckets.

0:05:51 > 0:05:52As NOT used by Team GB.

0:05:52 > 0:05:56But watch that bucket carefully - it's magic.

0:05:56 > 0:05:58We keep things like the tennis balls for the tennis players,

0:05:58 > 0:06:01we keep shuttlecocks for the shuttle cockers.

0:06:01 > 0:06:04And then the other thing, of course, is my favourite sport

0:06:04 > 0:06:07it was my Olympic sport, I competed for 35 years in the pole vault.

0:06:07 > 0:06:09In fact, I still hold the world record,

0:06:09 > 0:06:13I might say, for the over-20-stone category in the pole vault.

0:06:13 > 0:06:15Bet John bent that pole vault like he's bending the truth!

0:06:15 > 0:06:19Now, I carry my pole vault in here, as well. I just keep it there.

0:06:19 > 0:06:22Hang on a second - how did that get in there?!

0:06:22 > 0:06:24So it's all ready for me. Beautiful piece of equipment.

0:06:24 > 0:06:28If you put all their open mouths together, you'd make the Olympic rings.

0:06:28 > 0:06:31That is Irish maple. You don't see a lot of Irish maple. Now...

0:06:31 > 0:06:33They are loving this athletics lesson,

0:06:33 > 0:06:36but John won't let them pause for a breather just yet.

0:06:36 > 0:06:39We also have to do what we call research and development.

0:06:39 > 0:06:43- Research and development. - Now, one my favourite sports,

0:06:43 > 0:06:46and Radley's here, is the 4 x 100m and I've got a new little thing

0:06:46 > 0:06:49that we've developed for the 4 x 100m.

0:06:49 > 0:06:51I'm going to show you now, I'll just get it.

0:06:51 > 0:06:55Here comes the next leg of our magical school trip.

0:06:55 > 0:06:58Now, the 4 x 100m is all about the baton passing.

0:06:58 > 0:07:00This is one we've developed.

0:07:00 > 0:07:01This is the new aerodynamic baton,

0:07:01 > 0:07:04you can see it's slightly thinner on one end than on the other

0:07:04 > 0:07:06so it travels through the air a lot quicker.

0:07:06 > 0:07:10In fact, we have shaved a third of a second off a lap

0:07:10 > 0:07:12just using this new baton.

0:07:12 > 0:07:14The baton's more like a magic wand. Keep your eyes on it.

0:07:14 > 0:07:18A gold-medal-winning trick is hurtling towards the class.

0:07:18 > 0:07:21Now, we're going to demonstrate our baton changing, but it's very fast.

0:07:21 > 0:07:24It's so fast, right, you might not even see it,

0:07:24 > 0:07:25it's like the blink of an eye.

0:07:25 > 0:07:28So we're going to do it in slow motion, all right?

0:07:28 > 0:07:29Even then you might not see it.

0:07:29 > 0:07:32So we'll imagine now that I've just ran the 300m leg

0:07:32 > 0:07:35of the 4 x 100m, and I'm coming now onto the last straight.

0:07:35 > 0:07:37We've got Radley there, he's in position.

0:07:37 > 0:07:41And just imagine in slow motion we're running like this, so here we go.

0:07:42 > 0:07:46Whoa, it's like Super Saturday at the London Games all over again!

0:07:46 > 0:07:48John's doing this in slow-mo,

0:07:48 > 0:07:51cos otherwise you'll never see it happen.

0:07:53 > 0:07:57Whoa! The baton threw through the air from John to Fergus.

0:07:57 > 0:07:58Let's get a rewind.

0:08:02 > 0:08:04The speed of light, but in slow-mo -

0:08:04 > 0:08:05I didn't even see it go.

0:08:08 > 0:08:10The class are speechless.

0:08:10 > 0:08:14John and Fergus are milking their golden moment, but no wonder.

0:08:15 > 0:08:18Wonderfully done, I think you'll agree. Well done, son.

0:08:18 > 0:08:20Beautiful passing of the baton, there.

0:08:21 > 0:08:25The lesson's already world-beating but can they top their own record

0:08:25 > 0:08:27with some body- and mind-stretching magic?

0:08:27 > 0:08:32We go all the way down and all the way up.

0:08:32 > 0:08:34Now James is going to set you a magical challenge

0:08:34 > 0:08:36in Tricks of the Trade.

0:08:36 > 0:08:38If you fancy yourself as a magician,

0:08:38 > 0:08:41here's a trick you can try on your mates.

0:08:41 > 0:08:45First, you need to balance a playing card on top of your index finger.

0:08:45 > 0:08:47Then place a coin on top of the card,

0:08:47 > 0:08:51balancing on the end of your finger, just like James is here.

0:08:51 > 0:08:52Touching only the card,

0:08:52 > 0:08:55James is going to show you how to get the card off your finger

0:08:55 > 0:08:58leaving only the coin balancing on your fingertip.

0:08:58 > 0:09:00Sounds pretty amazing, eh?

0:09:02 > 0:09:05James has had to psyche himself up first.

0:09:05 > 0:09:08Grrrr! Keep watching and you'll find out later in the show.

0:09:08 > 0:09:10It's going to be awesome!

0:09:12 > 0:09:16It's time to rejoin our school trip to the athletics stadium.

0:09:16 > 0:09:19John and Fergus have been posing as coaches for Team GB.

0:09:19 > 0:09:22Let's hope our heroes don't trip up before they collect

0:09:22 > 0:09:24their medals for magic.

0:09:24 > 0:09:26As well as doing research and development

0:09:26 > 0:09:30and giving out the equipment, the other thing that we have to do,

0:09:30 > 0:09:32of course, is stretching and exercising.

0:09:32 > 0:09:35And Radley is a bit of an expert, so I'll hand you over to Radley

0:09:35 > 0:09:38and he'll tell you about the things he does here. Away you go, Radley.

0:09:38 > 0:09:41Thanks, Dad. So, today I've brought with me...

0:09:41 > 0:09:44this is called the hyperextension machine.

0:09:44 > 0:09:46He'll be hyperextending the truth.

0:09:46 > 0:09:51The hyperextension machine allows for a greater amount of flexibility.

0:09:51 > 0:09:53So, I'd like to demonstrate that for you now.

0:09:53 > 0:09:56- Who'd like to see it? - CHILDREN:- Me!

0:09:56 > 0:09:57Very good, very good.

0:09:57 > 0:10:01- You want me to get you in it, son? - Yes, please, Dad, if you don't mind.

0:10:01 > 0:10:02The class are getting suspicious,

0:10:02 > 0:10:06but Fergus is about to stretch their belief that little bit further.

0:10:06 > 0:10:09Here we go. So, I'm going to get in here like that.

0:10:09 > 0:10:11In you go, son.

0:10:11 > 0:10:12Brilliant.

0:10:13 > 0:10:16Lovely, yeah.

0:10:16 > 0:10:20Put my head through here.

0:10:20 > 0:10:22Great.

0:10:22 > 0:10:25So, in the hyperextension machine, what we've got is

0:10:25 > 0:10:26a micro filtration system.

0:10:26 > 0:10:30A micro filtration system that circulates heating fluid

0:10:30 > 0:10:32around the machine and around the muscles.

0:10:32 > 0:10:34It means I can stretch them further,

0:10:34 > 0:10:37more than you would think otherwise humanly possible.

0:10:37 > 0:10:39So, we're all going to start off by breathing together

0:10:39 > 0:10:42in a nice relaxed way. So... And in.

0:10:44 > 0:10:47That's it, nice and calmly and slowly and smoothly,

0:10:47 > 0:10:50- slowly and smoothly wins the race. - That's right, son.

0:10:50 > 0:10:53When I breathe in, I want everyone to stretch up to the air.

0:10:53 > 0:10:55So, stretch up.

0:10:55 > 0:10:58Good, and then stretch down.

0:10:58 > 0:11:00Good, and then stretch up.

0:11:00 > 0:11:04Fergus' hands are stretching up in the hyperextension machine.

0:11:04 > 0:11:06And then stretch down.

0:11:06 > 0:11:08Whoa! How low did his hands just go?

0:11:08 > 0:11:11How low did their jaws just drop?

0:11:11 > 0:11:15This time we'll change over. This is the hard stretch, isn't it, Dad?

0:11:15 > 0:11:18Watch him go! Wow, he's one bendy magician.

0:11:18 > 0:11:21OK, and then back again.

0:11:21 > 0:11:23That's incredible! How does he do that?

0:11:24 > 0:11:26But, Dad, like you've always said to me,

0:11:26 > 0:11:29- it's important you've got a flexible neck.- Yeah, that's right, son.

0:11:29 > 0:11:31I'm going to stick my neck out

0:11:31 > 0:11:33and predict this trick's going to get even better.

0:11:33 > 0:11:37So, I've made sure now that I've got a super-flexible neck.

0:11:37 > 0:11:39Wow!

0:11:39 > 0:11:42He just rotated his head a full 360,

0:11:42 > 0:11:47and he's winding the class up good and proper with his muscular magic.

0:11:47 > 0:11:49Now, it's not just the upper body you need to do,

0:11:49 > 0:11:51it's the legs, as well.

0:11:51 > 0:11:53So, I stick my legs out like that

0:11:53 > 0:11:57and then I stretch first to the front and the back at the same time.

0:11:57 > 0:12:01His legs are out and the class's eyes are popping out.

0:12:01 > 0:12:04And then I'll change over again just like that.

0:12:04 > 0:12:05They cannot believe it!

0:12:05 > 0:12:08And then once I've done that and held that for a while

0:12:08 > 0:12:11I can shake it out just like that.

0:12:11 > 0:12:13Shake it out? More like leave it out!

0:12:13 > 0:12:16- Will you let me out?- I'll get you out, son, don't you worry.

0:12:16 > 0:12:18Who enjoyed that? Isn't that cool?

0:12:20 > 0:12:24John's letting him get out, and it's time to let the secret loose, too.

0:12:24 > 0:12:28Now, this brings me neatly on to my next event.

0:12:28 > 0:12:30And that is to tell you

0:12:30 > 0:12:33that I'm not actually an Olympic training athlete.

0:12:33 > 0:12:36They're not as shocked at that fact as you'd like them to be, eh, mate?

0:12:36 > 0:12:38And neither am I.

0:12:38 > 0:12:40- Get out of town!- In fact...

0:12:40 > 0:12:43NORMAL ACCENT: My name's John, and I'm a magician.

0:12:43 > 0:12:45They didn't see that one coming.

0:12:45 > 0:12:46And I'm called...

0:12:46 > 0:12:48- NORMAL VOICE:- ..Fergus, and I'm also a magician

0:12:48 > 0:12:52and all of you have been set up by your school and your parents.

0:12:52 > 0:12:55There's a camera over there, there's a camera over there,

0:12:55 > 0:12:56there's a camera over there

0:12:56 > 0:13:00and you're all going to be on CBBC's Help! My School Trip Is Magic!

0:13:00 > 0:13:02CHEERING

0:13:04 > 0:13:06Well, MO me down with a feather!

0:13:06 > 0:13:09That was by FARAH the best magic I've ever seen.

0:13:12 > 0:13:14Let's hear what they thought about it.

0:13:14 > 0:13:17I thought that trick was spectacular.

0:13:17 > 0:13:19Fergus's hyperextension machine

0:13:19 > 0:13:21stretched the class's belief to the limit.

0:13:21 > 0:13:26He put his hand on the ground and put his head up in the air.

0:13:26 > 0:13:30That was...fabulous!

0:13:30 > 0:13:34He made their heads spin, and...well, his own.

0:13:34 > 0:13:38His head went round and round, that was really, just, weird.

0:13:38 > 0:13:40He looked like he was running through the air

0:13:40 > 0:13:41and had their hearts racing.

0:13:41 > 0:13:46I'm so, so happy. I'm just... Wow!

0:13:46 > 0:13:49The school trip had no idea that Fergus and John were magicians.

0:13:49 > 0:13:51How long would it take for you to shout...?

0:13:59 > 0:14:01James will reveal the secret

0:14:01 > 0:14:02in Tricks of the Trade.

0:14:02 > 0:14:04Have you worked it out yet?

0:14:04 > 0:14:06And will it work when Katherine and John

0:14:06 > 0:14:09put their heads together on another school trip?

0:14:09 > 0:14:11Come on, be more positive.

0:14:11 > 0:14:14There's an eye-popping trip featuring Fergus

0:14:14 > 0:14:16like you've never seen him before.

0:14:16 > 0:14:17Isn't that horrible?

0:14:17 > 0:14:22Will he fool the class or will they realise their school trip is magic?

0:14:22 > 0:14:25But first, we asked you to send in clips of yourselves

0:14:25 > 0:14:27performing your best magic tricks.

0:14:27 > 0:14:31We received loads of clips from all over the country.

0:14:31 > 0:14:34Each week, I'll be choosing a favourite Wannabe Wizard

0:14:34 > 0:14:36and showing them to you guys.

0:14:36 > 0:14:40My Wannabe Wizard this time is Ally from Wakefield.

0:14:40 > 0:14:41See this card, normal card here?

0:14:41 > 0:14:45Put it in my hand, magic wave and it stands up.

0:14:45 > 0:14:49Wow! That deserves a standing ovation.

0:14:49 > 0:14:52And what's really cool is I can move the card in the air,

0:14:52 > 0:14:55and it's floating, there's no guidance and it's a normal card.

0:14:55 > 0:14:57You might think it's on a piece of string

0:14:57 > 0:14:59but how does he pass his hand around it?

0:14:59 > 0:15:01Round, round, round my hand.

0:15:01 > 0:15:04My head's spinning. Let's get a re-spin.

0:15:06 > 0:15:07Thank you for watching.

0:15:07 > 0:15:10The pleasure's ours, Ally - great trick!

0:15:10 > 0:15:12These are magicians Katherine and John.

0:15:12 > 0:15:15They're about to fool another school trip,

0:15:15 > 0:15:17but not before John has bounced around.

0:15:19 > 0:15:22Katherine's got plenty to throw into the mix.

0:15:23 > 0:15:25Double the magicians, double the fun.

0:15:28 > 0:15:30This is year four getting on the coach.

0:15:30 > 0:15:34They've been set up by their teachers and their parents.

0:15:34 > 0:15:37They think they're going on a regular school trip,

0:15:37 > 0:15:39but it's one big school trick.

0:15:42 > 0:15:45They're going to Ripley's Believe It Or Not! Museum,

0:15:45 > 0:15:49and they won't believe what they're about to see.

0:15:49 > 0:15:54Just in case, we're disguising our magicians. That's not John, is it?

0:15:54 > 0:15:58Oh, it's worse! Only joking, handsome.

0:15:58 > 0:16:01While Katherine and John get their stories straight

0:16:01 > 0:16:02and their wigs straighter,

0:16:02 > 0:16:05the class are on their way, and they have

0:16:05 > 0:16:07no idea what on earth is waiting for them.

0:16:10 > 0:16:13Katherine and John have adopted some interesting alter egos,

0:16:13 > 0:16:17and as a heads-up, they also have some help from a little friend.

0:16:18 > 0:16:21Do you recognise him? Ugly, isn't he?

0:16:21 > 0:16:23He's not that tall in real life, are you?

0:16:23 > 0:16:25HIGH VOICE: "No, I'm not."

0:16:26 > 0:16:29The kids have arrived and they're enjoying

0:16:29 > 0:16:31the weird and wonderful exhibits.

0:16:31 > 0:16:32ALL: Eww!

0:16:32 > 0:16:34It's a perfect cover for our magicians,

0:16:34 > 0:16:37since they, too, are strange and unexplained.

0:16:40 > 0:16:43The magic's weighing heavy on John's mind,

0:16:43 > 0:16:45but they need to get a move on.

0:16:46 > 0:16:52The kids are getting close. It's OK, Katherine, you're looking good.

0:16:52 > 0:16:53School trip incoming.

0:16:53 > 0:16:55Their minds have been expanded by the exhibits,

0:16:55 > 0:16:58now they're going to be melted by some magic.

0:16:58 > 0:17:00Take it away, Katherine.

0:17:00 > 0:17:03- SOUTHERN STATES AMERICAN ACCENT:- Hi, boys and girls!- Er, howdy?

0:17:03 > 0:17:04- CHILDREN:- Hi.

0:17:04 > 0:17:06Hi, my name is Heidi Claire.

0:17:06 > 0:17:09Heidi Claire? That sounds like "I declare."

0:17:09 > 0:17:12Well, let's hope she doesn't declare she's magic.

0:17:12 > 0:17:16Now, we have a world of remarkable things here, but I'm going to talk

0:17:16 > 0:17:20to you specifically about the more unusual and mysterious ones we have.

0:17:20 > 0:17:24In fact, this is a little collection of my favourite items.

0:17:24 > 0:17:26They look very old and strange, don't they?

0:17:26 > 0:17:29And they belong to a lady called Ida Guess.

0:17:29 > 0:17:34Heidi Claire? Ida Guess? But the school trippers still don't suspect.

0:17:34 > 0:17:36She was an old fortune-teller that came from north Africa

0:17:36 > 0:17:38and this is what she used to wear.

0:17:38 > 0:17:41You can see she used to dress in a very elaborate way,

0:17:41 > 0:17:45and right down here we've got an old scroll.

0:17:45 > 0:17:46That scroll contains a prediction.

0:17:46 > 0:17:49Keep your eyes on that cos it'll become very important.

0:17:49 > 0:17:54Now, this is a prediction Ida wrote over 150 years ago.

0:17:54 > 0:17:57Can you believe that? It's a very long time ago.

0:17:57 > 0:17:59Now, all of these different things here on the table,

0:17:59 > 0:18:02these are thing that she used to carry around with her.

0:18:02 > 0:18:05So, she used to carry around a quite elaborate-looking mask like this,

0:18:05 > 0:18:07and its got some nice colours on that.

0:18:07 > 0:18:10And then also she used to carry around

0:18:10 > 0:18:13this carved out wooden, heavy jug, as well.

0:18:13 > 0:18:15And we've got here a pyramid of

0:18:15 > 0:18:18carved out pretty little elephants, too.

0:18:18 > 0:18:21Now, Ida said if all these items were separate,

0:18:21 > 0:18:23then they didn't have any power.

0:18:23 > 0:18:25But together they had an awful lot of power,

0:18:25 > 0:18:28and they could control what people would do and think.

0:18:28 > 0:18:29Could you imagine?

0:18:29 > 0:18:32She's messing with their minds, but she's going to read them.

0:18:32 > 0:18:35So, I'd like one of you to come up here and help me

0:18:35 > 0:18:37- so who'd like to come up? What's your name?- Claudia.

0:18:37 > 0:18:40Claudia? That's a very pretty name. Come on up here.

0:18:40 > 0:18:43Step forward, Claudia, you're about to star in a great trick.

0:18:43 > 0:18:45That's great. Now, boys and girls,

0:18:45 > 0:18:47you can imagine, working in a place like this,

0:18:47 > 0:18:49we get an awful lot of deliveries

0:18:49 > 0:18:51of all kinds of strange and wonderful things.

0:18:51 > 0:18:54And it's our job to choose what we're going to do with them.

0:18:54 > 0:18:57So we do one of three things - we either sell the item,

0:18:57 > 0:18:59we display it or we store it.

0:18:59 > 0:19:02You can see here, we've got all the different signs here to show

0:19:02 > 0:19:04what we're going to do with them.

0:19:04 > 0:19:08So, in a moment, Claudia, what I want you to do is choose one of

0:19:08 > 0:19:11these items, but I don't want to see what you're going to choose, OK?

0:19:11 > 0:19:13So, I'm going to stand over here like this,

0:19:13 > 0:19:14and I'm going to close my eyes

0:19:14 > 0:19:17so I cannot see what it is that you're choosing.

0:19:17 > 0:19:20So, Claudia, when you're ready I want you to pick up whichever item

0:19:20 > 0:19:22you like from the table.

0:19:22 > 0:19:24Claudia's picked up the elephant statue

0:19:24 > 0:19:27but Katherine doesn't know she's chosen that one.

0:19:27 > 0:19:30And I'd like you to place that item behind "display".

0:19:32 > 0:19:36Great, have you done that? OK, so you've got two items left.

0:19:36 > 0:19:40I want you to take one of those items and pick it up.

0:19:40 > 0:19:42Claudia's straight in there with the jug.

0:19:42 > 0:19:46Katherine can't possibly know her choice.

0:19:46 > 0:19:48I want you to place that behind the sign that says "sell".

0:19:48 > 0:19:51You see that on the table there? That's great.

0:19:51 > 0:19:54And finally I want you to pick up the last, final item...

0:19:55 > 0:19:57..and I want to place that one

0:19:57 > 0:19:59behind the sign that says "store".

0:19:59 > 0:20:02It's the tribal mask, but Katherine still doesn't know.

0:20:02 > 0:20:05Thank you so much for your help, Claudia.

0:20:05 > 0:20:08Now, honestly, I have no idea which item will be placed where.

0:20:08 > 0:20:12Katherine didn't know which order Claudia would pick up the artefacts.

0:20:12 > 0:20:14But now she's about to surprise them with some amazing fiction.

0:20:14 > 0:20:17Do you remember right at the beginning

0:20:17 > 0:20:20I said that Ida Guess made a prediction over 150 years ago?

0:20:20 > 0:20:21- CHILDREN:- Yes.

0:20:21 > 0:20:24A prediction that's been there the whole time.

0:20:24 > 0:20:27And this is the prediction that Ida made.

0:20:28 > 0:20:32It says: "You will display the elephant,

0:20:32 > 0:20:37"you will store the mask and you will sell the jug."

0:20:37 > 0:20:38That's kind of spooky, isn't it?

0:20:38 > 0:20:43How is that possible? How did Ida Guess...well, guess?

0:20:43 > 0:20:46- Is that amazing?- Yes!- Wow!

0:20:46 > 0:20:50- It's magic and it's a bit spooky. - Thank you very much.

0:20:50 > 0:20:52Katherine told them a tale about

0:20:52 > 0:20:54a scroll that would foretell the future.

0:20:54 > 0:20:58This is the prediction that Ida wrote over 150 years ago.

0:20:58 > 0:21:01Claudia from the class picked the items at random

0:21:01 > 0:21:04- and put them in place. - That's great.

0:21:04 > 0:21:06There's no way Katherine could have known the order.

0:21:06 > 0:21:08The prediction was right!

0:21:08 > 0:21:13"You will display the elephant, store the mask and sell the jug."

0:21:13 > 0:21:16But the trip's about to get a fright

0:21:16 > 0:21:18when this shrunken head is brought back to life.

0:21:18 > 0:21:20SCREAMING

0:21:22 > 0:21:26Now it's time for James to reveal the secret in Tricks of the Trade.

0:21:26 > 0:21:29James, who has been patiently standing like this

0:21:29 > 0:21:31will show you how, touching only the card,

0:21:31 > 0:21:33he can get the card off his finger

0:21:33 > 0:21:36leaving only the coin balancing on his finger tip.

0:21:37 > 0:21:40He's been in training for this for ages.

0:21:41 > 0:21:43Here we go.

0:21:43 > 0:21:47One, two, three,

0:21:47 > 0:21:48boom!

0:21:48 > 0:21:51Let's get a rewind!

0:21:51 > 0:21:53You just need to give the card a hard flick

0:21:53 > 0:21:56right on one of the corners... and practise loads.

0:21:58 > 0:21:59Did you get it?

0:21:59 > 0:22:03Now you've got a trick with a flick to flip your mates' minds.

0:22:05 > 0:22:07It's time to rejoin our school trip

0:22:07 > 0:22:10to the museum of the weird and wonderful.

0:22:10 > 0:22:13The kids think Katherine's way out there,

0:22:13 > 0:22:15but still don't suspect she's magic.

0:22:15 > 0:22:17That was lovely!

0:22:17 > 0:22:20John's about to turn the whole outing on its head.

0:22:20 > 0:22:23It's great to be here, thank you very much for coming to see us

0:22:23 > 0:22:24here at the attraction.

0:22:24 > 0:22:27Now, I'm in charge of some of the stuff here.

0:22:27 > 0:22:29I look after what we call the oddities.

0:22:29 > 0:22:31The oddities, yes, we call them oddities.

0:22:31 > 0:22:33In fact, my wife says I'm one of the biggest oddities here.

0:22:33 > 0:22:36- We're all thinking it. - I don't think she likes me, my wife.

0:22:36 > 0:22:38Anyway, I'm one of the curators.

0:22:38 > 0:22:40That's what I do, I curate the things.

0:22:40 > 0:22:43In fact, I like to think that I'm the head curator but I'm not, I'm not.

0:22:43 > 0:22:44I'm not the head curator.

0:22:44 > 0:22:48I'm actually even better than that - I'm the shrunken head curator.

0:22:48 > 0:22:51It's marvellous that, isn't it? Who's heard of a shrunken head?

0:22:51 > 0:22:52They haven't heard of it.

0:22:52 > 0:22:55But they won't forget it after John's trick.

0:22:55 > 0:22:57Shrunken heads, right, they don't do them now,

0:22:57 > 0:22:58but hundreds of years ago

0:22:58 > 0:23:03the tribes, right, in places like Ecuador and Peru, you know, in South America

0:23:03 > 0:23:05they used to get the enemies, right, and when they'd

0:23:05 > 0:23:09captured them, they'd shrink the head right down, really small.

0:23:09 > 0:23:11Grisly but true.

0:23:11 > 0:23:14Now, the problem is, with shrunken heads, there's a lot of fakes.

0:23:14 > 0:23:17You can't tell the real ones from the fake ones.

0:23:17 > 0:23:18My job here is to make sure

0:23:18 > 0:23:20we know what the real ones and the fake ones are.

0:23:20 > 0:23:22Normally a good way of telling a real one is they're very ugly.

0:23:22 > 0:23:26They look horrible. Urgh! I've got a shrunken head to show you.

0:23:26 > 0:23:28I've got one over here, look. And, er...

0:23:28 > 0:23:31They're fascinated by John's chat. Hope he doesn't get too big headed.

0:23:31 > 0:23:34Now, brace yourself, cos he's an ugly little fella.

0:23:34 > 0:23:37Look at that. Isn't that horrible? Eh?

0:23:37 > 0:23:40That little face looks familiar. Maybe I've seen it in a nightmare.

0:23:40 > 0:23:43Now, there's only way to tell if this is a real shrunken head.

0:23:43 > 0:23:45And what we have to do to tell if it's a real one,

0:23:45 > 0:23:47we have to re-hydrate it.

0:23:47 > 0:23:50You know when you have mashed potato, that stuff out the packet,

0:23:50 > 0:23:52and you put the water in and it all goes back up to mashed potato?

0:23:52 > 0:23:54She's nodding nervously.

0:23:54 > 0:23:57Re-hydration. So what we can do, if we put all the water

0:23:57 > 0:23:59and the moisture and vitamins back in the head,

0:23:59 > 0:24:02it makes it nice and big, you see? Lovely.

0:24:02 > 0:24:03So, we can do that with one of these.

0:24:03 > 0:24:06This is it, this is my re-hydration unit.

0:24:06 > 0:24:07Or a box of tricks.

0:24:07 > 0:24:10Now, we can give it a try with this one.

0:24:10 > 0:24:12I'll just put the box over here, like that.

0:24:12 > 0:24:14And then when I put the head in the box, you see,

0:24:14 > 0:24:16all the moisture gets sucked out of the atmosphere

0:24:16 > 0:24:18and put back into the head,

0:24:18 > 0:24:20and we find out if it's a real one. That's lovely, isn't it?

0:24:20 > 0:24:23They can't believe this - it sounds impossible.

0:24:23 > 0:24:25We'll have a little look.

0:24:25 > 0:24:28I'll just put it in here like this, just there, hang on.

0:24:28 > 0:24:30Just put it there, look. Wonderful.

0:24:30 > 0:24:34What'll happen is, I close this door like that

0:24:34 > 0:24:38and what happens now is that head gets re-hydrated.

0:24:38 > 0:24:40It sucks the moisture from all around us

0:24:40 > 0:24:42and all the vitamins and the minerals

0:24:42 > 0:24:45and the bits of...bits of egg, anything that's in the air.

0:24:45 > 0:24:48- John's getting carried away. - There could be egg in the air, I don't know.

0:24:48 > 0:24:51And it sucks it all in, into that box, like that,

0:24:51 > 0:24:54and then hopefully we can find out if it's a real one, you see?

0:24:54 > 0:24:56Cos if all the air's back in, it should look...

0:24:56 > 0:24:58CHILDREN GASP AND SHOUT

0:24:58 > 0:25:00Whoa, the shrunken head is re-hydrated!

0:25:00 > 0:25:03I nearly did a nervous wee in me pants!

0:25:03 > 0:25:06What I can tell from that, you see, as soon as I've done that

0:25:06 > 0:25:10I know that that is a real head. It's marvellous, isn't it?

0:25:10 > 0:25:13I've seen that head before. I never forget a face.

0:25:13 > 0:25:15Isn't that good?

0:25:15 > 0:25:18HEAD GASPS, CHILDREN SCREAM

0:25:18 > 0:25:22Oh, I think it's a real one! I think it's real, boys and girls!

0:25:22 > 0:25:25That's Fergus' head, but where's his body?

0:25:25 > 0:25:28You can see right under the table, there's nowhere to hide.

0:25:28 > 0:25:30Look at you!

0:25:30 > 0:25:32Oi, what are you doing here?

0:25:32 > 0:25:34It speaks.

0:25:34 > 0:25:36I'm just talking to them about shrunken heads and everything.

0:25:36 > 0:25:39I thought you... They... I... I was re-hydrating.

0:25:39 > 0:25:41You don't even work here!

0:25:41 > 0:25:43Ah. No. That's... That's enough of that.
